I think if Barley removed his armor he could get a +1 to the roll. Not sure that is such a good idea though. Barley has an adamantine weapon that should work on recalcitrant doors.
Barley (DMPC) shrugs, "I suppose I could hack the door in, though there are other doors we bypassed here. Do you think those two brothers are being held prisoner behind this door?"

Etienne is still thinking of the ichor running down the wall in the central room with the stairs. It has unsettled him.
Backtracking your way here you make your way to the opposite side of the shadow-filled manor. Thin walls break this area into four small rooms, each furnished with cramped beds. A central area remains open save for a crooked table and mismatched chairs.
As you continue your exploration you realize three of these rooms are occupied, each by a single fetchling, for a total of two women and one man. As they notice your arrival they glance up dispiritedly at the lot of you...the man muttering something about "More prisoners to keep us company for eternity...just like those two noblemen a while back."

know, for time means little in this timeless realm — but we know they were kept upstairs among the Updwellers."

Lucoth responds to the kitsune here, "We know nothing of what lairs upstairs, for we are no longer permitted above after a long ago slight against Nicasor. It was he who led us and the rebellion against --" Here his voice stops as a brief look of terror flits over his shadowed face, fearful as to what he was about to say.

Lucoth responds here, "Nicasor was originally imprisoned by the midnight mirror for fomenting a revolt against Stepan’s ancestors among his fellow shaes and the many fetchling citizens in Karpad, and his entire family and all fetchlings in the barony were damned to an eternity of torment within the prison. Nicasor spent centuries searching for a means of escaping his prison but he failed...until one day he told us of the Baron and the dark bargain they struck." He pauses and allows Jerda to continue here.
"Baron Stepan, seeking a means of wresting power from his elder brothers, and Nicasor, desperate to escape his prison, struck a dark bargain. Nicasor agreed to help Stepan succeed his father as baron and Stepan, in return, would trade places with the shae for 1 year once every decade, granting Nicasor control of his body so the shae could escape his prison for a time without anyone knowing he was free." The fetchlin man finishes up.

Kit lifts a finger into the air as if to make a point.
"And THAT, my companions, would be the so-called manifestation. I do like 'heart' better. Almost makes me sad to see it run through, particularly when it is broken, but I believe Setare is up to the task. But it is what it is. So, have you given any thought to guiding us to this heart?"
The fetchlings shake their heads in a fierce denial. "We will not subject ourselves to that endless torment!"
With that the fetchlings turn their attention away from you, unwilling to continue conversing with you.

Kit shrugs nonchalantly. "Sure, you lead and I'll follow."
Are those stairs up in the northeast portion of the map? If so we go up, if not we take the door we have not taken over near that corner.
Barley nods in agreement to heading upstairs.
The decision made to head upstairs to see if you can locate the noblemen Iozif and Henric, you return to the dining room where the black ichor still drips from the far wall.
The stairs wind upwards to the second floor where you see the corridor wend its way off to the opposite end. Three doors are found here, one next to the staircase and the other two at the far end.

The door to this room is not locked and opens easily. Your dimmed light reveals a feather bed piled high with blankets dominates this well-appointed room. Floral wallpaper has been carefully pasted over the black walls of the manor, and carpets cover the floor. A dresser, mirror, desk and armchair complete the illusion of a comfortable apartment on the Material Plane.
Seeing no immediate threats you investigate further, only to see the corpse of Stepan’s brother Iozif lying in the bed, propped up against pillows and swaddled in coverlets. The cold air has preserved his body well, and there is little smell. Iozif’s left hand is missing one finger you also see.

Etienne looks under the bed and sees a makeshift child’s doll with gray skin and white hair on the floor beneath the bed. Nothing else of value remains in this room.
