Confused about the concentration checks. Are they not required for the other spells? Can Hoprah determine if there's a place where she can safely cast? No worries if this is outside of character knowledge...
Not wishing to waste another spell, Hoprah lets fly with another bolt of force from her wand.
Magic Missile: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

The Heart AC is 25 so the first attack missed.
Etienne sends a weakening ray at the Heart...
Fort save DC 15: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29
...which easily resists the effects!
Hoprah's missile strikes it again adding to the multitude of wounds it has suffered.
The Heart retaliates at the others...
Bite vs Barley: 1d20 + 12 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 12 - 2 = 17 Miss.
Tentacle vs. Rilia: 1d20 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (2) + 7 - 2 = 7 Miss.
Tentacle vs. Setare: 1d20 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 7 - 2 = 17 Hit. Parried successfully, Riposte missed.
While none of you are harmed further you see more wounds closing on the Heart's body!

Everyone is UP! Hoprah, the shadow plane you are in only impedes Light based spells which is why your Glitterdust spell failed.

Again Setare attacks the shadow plant creature in a flanking position with Barley.
”Obi-Wan-Barley, you are our only hope!!“
Scimitar +1 attack roll, flank, inspire courage, reduce person : 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 8 + 2 + 1 + 2 = 32
Damage roll, inspire, reduce person : 1d4 + 5 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 5 + 1 + 1 = 11
Crit confirm: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 8 + 2 + 1 + 2 = 30
Damage roll, inspire, reduce person : 1d4 + 5 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 5 + 1 + 1 = 11

Setare also prepares to parry any attacks.
the above was a crit: Setare has 3/4 Panache left.
Opportune Parry: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 8 + 2 + 1 + 2 = 28
In case Setare successfully parries she uses 'Reposte' as an immediate action to attack the opponent that attacked her.
Scimitar reposte attack roll: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 8 + 2 + 1 + 2 = 29
Damage reposte roll, IC : 1d4 + 5 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 5 + 1 + 1 = 10

Ah, ok - thanks for the clarification.
"Setare, can you step 5' further into the room so that I can engulf it in flames without hitting you?"
Hoprah will delay until Setare has stepped out of the way and then will cast Burning Hands.
Burning Hands: 5d4 ⇒ (2, 3, 4, 2, 1) = 12 Reflex DC 17 for half

"Anyone have an alchemists flask?"

![]() |

Setare again slices a large chunk out of the Heart's body, and steps back here allowing Hoprah to send a large gout of flame at its body. The Heart finally ceases its thrashings enough to allow Barley time to slice it apart with the Shard!
COMBAT OVER!
2d10 ⇒ (2, 10) = 12
As the Heart's death throes come to an end, you see the tendrils running from its body all the way through the walls snap violently together causing a loud trembling to echo throughout the pocket plane! As you glance about you you see bits and pieces of the walls start to fall apart onto the floor while several trembles run through the ground!

"Perhaps we should head back to the mirror with some alacrity?" Etienne will start moving back towards the basement.

![]() |

"Anyone have an alchemists flask?"
Kit answers herself, "Um, never mind. That was a lot easier than expected. They way everyone talked about it, well... Let's just get out of here."
For once Kit takes the lead as she makes a dash for the exit.

![]() |

There is a noise like a gun going off and a Rilia-shaped cloud where Rilia was standing a moment before.

![]() |

3d10 ⇒ (7, 2, 3) = 12
Hurriedly you make your way out of the courtyard where the Heart continues its dying throes, back through the dining hall and out into the corridor where already you hear noises from the other inhabitants as they also seek to flee this place.
You make your way back to the stairs leading to the basement and emerge into the torture chamber...where you discover the floor in this room has liquefied, making it treacherous to cross!

Treat the floor in this area as quicksand.

![]() |

And the race is on! So the real question is who makes it first through the mirror?! Are we on slide 10?

![]() |

Depending on how the stairs (are those low rails to either side?) and door (which way it opens, which side the hinges are on) are arranged, Rilia might--if it makes sense--cast open/close on it hoping the door swings toward them so that people can just hang on to the knobs and swing across. If the door opens into the hall or the opposite way then folks might be able to jump across.
Of course she probably has to be standing where Kitoro is to target the door. Ladies first after all. ;p

![]() |

Both Rilia and Kit have whips too. Once one person gets over, a whip would be ideal for pulling someone through the quicksand. Kit has a +9 acrobatics. If Rillia were to use inspire competance it should be easy enough for her to get over there.

![]() |

Setare looks at the ladies and nods after hearing their stories suggestions.
She tries to follow their advice.
Acrobatics : 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28

If Rilia were to use inspire competence she would be out of tier for this game. ;) That, and her weapon is basically mithril razor wire.
Rilia asks for divine aid.
acrobatics (guidance): 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 8 + 1 = 15
Once down she puts out a hand to pull the next person in.
"Take my hand, I left my fun whip back on Saint Cuthbert (her huge, magnificent steed)."
acrobatics (aid): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20

![]() |

Etienne waits for others to get across. "I have a feeling I'm going to need one of you to pull me through with a whip."

![]() |

"Next!"
acrobatics (aid): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14

![]() |

acrobatics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Kit snakes her whip around the wall and has someone grab the end and then nimbly launches herself out into space and with a well timed yank on the whip reverses direction and lands on the stairs.
"That was rather fun!"
Kit will use inspire competence on Etienne to lend him a little aid (+2), singing a song about jumping.
In case he fails she has her whip ready to give him something to hang on to while the group pulls him in.

![]() |

If Setare can support she will try.
Acrobatics aid: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13

![]() |

Etienne gives it a go . . .
acro, Kit compt, Setare aid?: 1d20 + 2 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 + 2 + 2 = 16
and manages it, if not artfully, with everyone's help.

![]() |

Using the stairwell as a launching pad you all manage to avoid the treacherous footing and manage to make it through the door, some less gracefully than others.
Once you have reached the mirror room you quckly discover the floor here is ragged and uneven. Fortunately you are able to gingerly make your way across the floor and see the mirror ahead beckoning you to return...
Once each of you have touched the mirror's surface, you feel yourself transported through the mirror, finding yourself back on the other side, whee you see Baron Stephan awaiting you.
"I see you have returned! Were you successful in destroying the Heart? What of my brothers?"

![]() |

Setare is slightly confused and looks at the mirror waiting for the others to arrive as well.

![]() |

"Your brothers are dead, the Heart is vanquished, and Nicasor and his allies may be right behind us. Be ready - I do not think he likes you much. Of course, we don't like you much either."

![]() |

"Now, now, Etienne. Let's keep our personal likes and dislikes out of this and weigh things fairly."
There WAS that offer of power and money. Though my fellow idiot pathfinders never bothered to negotiate squat so we probably won't GET squat for releasing them. Power and money seems 'fairly' attractive to me at least. A vixen can hope.

![]() |

The Baron at first smiles on hearing the Prison plane has been destroyed, yet that look is replaced by on of anger, with not a small trace of fear. "YOU...left him...ALIVE?" He abruptly turns on his feet and moves to leave the basement. "I do not consider terms of our bargain met until you show me his body!"

![]() |

"Shall we make any preparations before Nicasor comes through that mirror?

![]() |

Seeing the destruction of the Mirror is at hand the Baron turns to head away from the scene here, followed closely by his guards, along with Anya, leaving you alone with the Mirror.
After a few minutes go by you watch the roiling chaos on the other side of the Mirror before suddenly a wave of pitch black erupts from the mirror, engulfing the place in complete darkness! Fortunately for you, it does not last long, as a loud *CRACK* echoes throughout the basement area as the mirror shatters into a cloud of slivers! Even as the mirror breaks apart you suddenly are awash in bodies as you see over a dozen fetchlings and shae appear sprawled out on the ground dazed, yet alive! You see all of the people you talked to earlier here, plus some you have not seen before, including a young child. Nicasor lies among them as well.
Do you wish to do anything here?

![]() |

"I suppose we should attend to their wounded."
In spite of her statement, she makes no move to help any of them, though she does get out a wand.

![]() |

Setare takes out rope from her bag of holding, walks to Nicasor and ties him up.
CMB or escape artist check DC 25

![]() |

Setare walks forward to Nicasor and readies an action disarm him if he draws his weapon.

![]() |

Okay, judging by the actions of Setare here you want to take Nicasor prisoner. That is ok.
As you wait anxiously keeping a close eye upon Nicasor and his relatives, they slowly stir to wakefulness eying your drawn weapons mistrustfully. Several of the shae stand up drawing weapons, but Nicasor waves off them with a motion.
"No. Lay down your arms. We are free now. Free to continue what we have planned." With that ominous note hanging over the air you realize you have no legal recourse to hold them in custody (not to mention the fact these shae are seasoned warriors and could very easily best the town, not to mention yourselves, though the cost would be dear on both sides. Under the fragile truce here the shae and their fetchlings underling gather up their belongings and follow their leader out of Boroi Manor and into the Karpad night.
Keep in mind 15 followers total were ejected from the Mirror, along with Nicasor, so they would be a tough fight for you should they all work together.
Once you have escorted the former prisoners out of the Manor, you all return to see the Baron. Needless to say he is not pleased you allowed Nicasor to live, but thankfully Rilia is able to talk him down from doing anything rash. Begrudgingly he realizes the threat of Nicasor, while still present, is one that can be dealt with in the future.
With the mirror destroyed, the seeping of shadow essence (and the tallowthroat taint it carried) stops, and those infected soon show signs of recovering. Anya is happy about this and together with Rilia you manage to convince the Baron to release the un-named shadow still bound in the Baron's Kuthite artifact The Book of Night Without Moon, which will make Venture-Captain Sheila Heidmarch happy.
As you prepare to depart Karpad and Nidal you wonder what will become of the Baron and the new situation which has befallen his rule. Then you realize you won't be around to see it. Such is the life of of those who serve the Pathfinder Society.
THE END
