A place to discuss goings on.

I had some ideas but they are a bit too villany maybe...a drow assassin, a Red Wizard of Thay...

Also, is this 5e Princes of the Apocalypse or the 2e version? I was thinking you meant the former, and cool either way, but just checking.

| SA

The former is correct, changed the name to reflect it.

So you are looking for fresh, new 1st edition characters?? Will have to look and see what to play! Are we rolling abilities? Is there a limit on races?

| SA

5th ed races. roll here or point buy, your choice. I want to say no restriction on races but stick to officially published stuff.

Rold Gold:

4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 4, 2) = 13
4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 6, 5) = 14
4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 6, 6) = 22
4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 6, 5) = 17
4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 5, 6) = 18
4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 5, 3) = 15

11.13.17.15.16.13

Male Elf Rogue Swashbuckler/4; HP: 27/27; AC:20; T: 16; FF: 15; F: 1/R: 8/W: 1; CMD: 20; Init: 6; Perc: 7; Sense Motive: 0

4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 2, 6) = 17 = 15
4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 2, 2) = 13 = 11
4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 3, 4) = 12 = 10
4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 1, 5) = 10 = 9
4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 6, 3) = 19 = 16
4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 5, 2) = 9 = 8

Not bad, not good...Can I use 27 point buy as an alternative?

Liberty's Edge

Male Historian/Curator

Let's see what I can get....

4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 1, 2) = 9 (08)
4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 1, 6) = 19 (18)
4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 6, 1) = 14 (13)
4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 1, 2) = 13 (12)
4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 4, 4) = 14 (11)
4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 1, 6) = 14 (13)

| SA

Folios, you're only 3 points away from the point buy but you wouldn't be able to have that 16. Additional 3 points to put where you see fit sound reasonable?

Pretty good rolls so far. Some above point buy scores, some dump stats.

4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 1, 1) = 7 = 6
4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 3, 3) = 13 = 10
4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 2, 1) = 11 = 10
4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 4, 6) = 21 = 17
4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 6, 1) = 13 = 12
4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 2, 2) = 14 = 12

Looks like I'll be going the point buy route. That 6 and two 10s seem a bit too low.

Still noodling on race/class.

Male Elf Rogue Swashbuckler/4; HP: 27/27; AC:20; T: 16; FF: 15; F: 1/R: 8/W: 1; CMD: 20; Init: 6; Perc: 7; Sense Motive: 0

Sounds good. I will go 16, 15, 11, 10, 10, 10 before racial bonuses. I am thinking Fighter. I have not run one in awhile, and it will be fun! Either Half-Orc, or Dwarf.

Male Half-Orc Barbarian (Outlander)(CN)/2, HP 23/30; , AC: 14 , Saves: STR +6 CON +5, Initiative: +0, Passive Perception: 12; Rage Remaining 1/2

This is Filios. I changed my mind...went Half-Orc Barbarian. I present Rrath for consideration.

| SA

Depending on the dr rather than ac I see...

Male Half-Orc Barbarian (Outlander)(CN)/2, HP 23/30; , AC: 14 , Saves: STR +6 CON +5, Initiative: +0, Passive Perception: 12; Rage Remaining 1/2

For now...until I add some medium armor. I did the build with standard equipment, and that does not include armor for a Barbarian. I will need to pick it up as I go.

| SA

Sounds like a good plan to me.

Everyone, feel free to associate your character with one of the factions if you like. It isn't required by any means but there are some faction related things that can happen.

I'll be with the Harpers likely. Leaning wizard atm.

Male Half-Orc Barbarian (Outlander)(CN)/2, HP 23/30; , AC: 14 , Saves: STR +6 CON +5, Initiative: +0, Passive Perception: 12; Rage Remaining 1/2

No faction for Rrath. He is simply a tribal marauder, on his own.

Male Half-Orc Barbarian (Outlander)(CN)/2, HP 23/30; , AC: 14 , Saves: STR +6 CON +5, Initiative: +0, Passive Perception: 12; Rage Remaining 1/2

@GM Natlov: Anyway you would consider opening the Gameplay Thread so we can dot for our Campaign Tab? I will understand if you feel it is too early.

Agreed it would be nice to have it show in campaigns. Natloz can post a blank and we can dot then delete so its not cluttered.

| SA

Fair enough, i forgot the discussion doesn't make it show up.

Male Half-Orc Barbarian (Outlander)(CN)/2, HP 23/30; , AC: 14 , Saves: STR +6 CON +5, Initiative: +0, Passive Perception: 12; Rage Remaining 1/2

Thanks!

Going to play a Mulan human. Any preference on variant or not?

| SA

You can play whichever one you like.

Hmm, +1 to all abilities (12.14.18.16.17.14) is pretty tempting! Feats are nice too though, tough call.

Male Human (Rashimi) Monk 2 | HP:15/15 | AC:15 | Init: +3 | Per: 12 | PB: +2

GM Natloz, I thought I would give a Monk a try. So here's Dasim who also has a slight bit of thieving background. I could also switch over to cleric if the party looks like it will need more healing or anti-undead.

| SA

Healing in 5e is only for emergencies anyway. Punching is more fun.

Oooh, a Rashemi. Please let me adventure a bit before you mercilessly slay me, lol.

GM, just doing a short bullet list for background, where in the Realms does this one start?

| SA

I'm away from my book atm but this the gist of things. You are starting in red larch, a small town about a week's ride outside of Waterdeep. If you choose a faction, there are some built in hooks as to why you are there. You will have to come up with your own reason for being there otherwise. The general area is called the Dessarin Valley. It has some major caravan routes crossing through the area. It isn't a frontier area by any stretch of the imagination but the roads between towns are long.

You can be from the town of you like. Caravan guard is a good way to get there on your own. You could have come to investigate rumors you heard about troubling stories coming from this relatively safe area.

Has anyone actually played this adventure or the AL modules that accompanied it? I think this is the first adventure published after tyranny of dragons if that gives you a time frame.

Still flipping through Spellbound for some inspiration (check out this awesome cover XD), but I've got something playable at this point.

Also was going to ask if I could start with a familiar or need to cast it the first day. I have the 10gp from background I could use on it.

| SA

So far we have a rebelious thayan wizard, a monk, and a barbarian. Waiting on one more from the other game and a 5th once my old DM gets back from his vacation. That is if you all are ok with that.

Male Half-Orc Barbarian (Outlander)(CN)/2, HP 23/30; , AC: 14 , Saves: STR +6 CON +5, Initiative: +0, Passive Perception: 12; Rage Remaining 1/2

Good by me. I think Rrath will have arrived as a caravan guard.

| SA

Any ideas Daniel? Starting with an 18 is pretty good. The rest of your stats are middling but race choice could bump that up in significant ways.

Male Human (Rashimi) Monk 2 | HP:15/15 | AC:15 | Init: +3 | Per: 12 | PB: +2

Dasim will go ahead and be part of the Emerald Enclave faction. I'll likely fill in more background info as the game progresses unless you prefer its all done up front. Just let me know.

| SA

That's fine. You can be in town on behalf of the Enclave for nebulous reasons. There are a few story things specific to them I can give you as well once we get going as well as some background filler you can use to tie in to the campaign better. I can match it up better if you have an outline at least but we can work something out.

Ziyad, you can start with your familiar as long as it's one of your known spells.

Male Human (Rashimi) Monk 2 | HP:15/15 | AC:15 | Init: +3 | Per: 12 | PB: +2

Sounds good. I'll spend a little time putting a few points together while we wait.

Coolness, any eta? My job starts up again next week.

| SA

I'm thinking either tomorrow or the next day. We can do some prelim stuff while we wait. Roleplaying in town perhaps. The others can catch up

| SA

As an aside, when it comes to leveling, you can level as soon as you have enough xp but you only get the potential of that level. What I mean is, say you go from level 2 to three, you get your lvl 2 slots but they are not available. I'd you have a feature to regain slots *cough*wizard*cough* you can use that on a short rest to refill one of them. The same goes for other game resources such as ki points. Other abilities you can use right away. Hopefully that's clear as level 2 and three come quickly.

Male Half-Orc Barbarian (Outlander)(CN)/2, HP 23/30; , AC: 14 , Saves: STR +6 CON +5, Initiative: +0, Passive Perception: 12; Rage Remaining 1/2

Clear

Hey there this is Bhoors from GM Infinity's Boltmelter game.

If there is still space I would love to give something a go.

| SA

You can jump in if you like Gnomezrule. Now I'll actually have to do work as the GM instead of just running things straight from the book... this may take a little while to find the balance between "cakewalk" and "omg how did we survive"

Leveling stuff sounds fine to me.

As for the encounter difficulty, its something I've always struggled with and have absolutely no advice.

However, link below is pretty helpful in the following way...first put in the encounter as designed with number of PCs as designed. Note the difficulty easy, medium, etc. Then bump up the number of PCs and see how it changes. Then you can adjust until the difficulty matches and see if its reasonable or not... Its nothing you cant do by hand just saves some time.

first rule of kobold fight club is 'yip yip'

Male Half-Orc Barbarian (Outlander)(CN)/2, HP 23/30; , AC: 14 , Saves: STR +6 CON +5, Initiative: +0, Passive Perception: 12; Rage Remaining 1/2

Solid app that I often use myself. It takes the guesswork out of things.

| SA

I started building the info pages for characters I'll add a map of Red Larch when I get home this afternoon. The link is by my name. It seemed like it worked out for Mishima in his games so I'm stealing the idea.

I have a reasonable hook for you Dasim based on your faction but i wanted to give you a chance to put your ideas down first. A monk with some thieving skills could have an interesting origin.

Male Human (Rashimi) Monk 2 | HP:15/15 | AC:15 | Init: +3 | Per: 12 | PB: +2

Natloz, I've added some background notes and I think there are a couple of things there that can be used to tie into the campaign in some way.

| SA

Looks good, I think I have just the thing for you. I'll get it up in gameplay as soon as I get back to my book so I get the details right.

Sorry for dropping the ball on this game...but still interested just looking to see what we already have before I jump in with a build...was thinking maybe a druid. Will get it up asap, and again sorry for the delay!

Female Firbolg Druid 2 ★ 14.13.12.11.20.08 ★ 15/15 hp ★ 13 AC ★ Int(+2), Wis(+7), ★Passive Per 15 ★ Spells: 3/3, DC-15 +7 Spell Att,★ Insp. 1

This is Daniel. Here is the start of my character. I will flesh her out more.

| SA

Cool, consider how you came to be in Red Larch or at least what may motivate your character so I can grab something from the book to match up with you. Also, you can attach yourself to a faction. Emerald Enclave would be the obvious choice but don't feel beholden to that. Glad to have you aboard!

4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 6, 4) = 22-4=18
4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 2, 1) = 7-1=6
4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 4, 1) = 9-1=8
4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 1, 6) = 15-1=14
4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 1, 3) = 10-1=9
4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 5, 4) = 19-4=15

Are we starting level 1.

I am assuming this isn't AL because you allowed rolling.
