Being as our employer would rather have the money from taking in the bandits alive, shouldn't we also be trying to capture them alive? Especially a bandit leader?
The bandit leader is alive and well; thank you for your concern. Besides, barring a crit (average 44 points of damage) Bjorn isn't going to kill him in one shot (max 14 points of damage).
Björn Helsingrsøn |
Well, so much for plan "A". Bjorn, unsurprisingly, has grown tired of put them to sleep and then watch the invisible leader kick them awake.
He is now on to plan "B": Hit them for 8d4 + 24 while they're still asleep and watch them dance their death jig on the end of his scythe. Bandits are only worth LESS dead.

Hey guys.
Watching the rest of the group run a 0.5 mile trek makes me appreciate movement speed more and more.:)
Has a lot of tactical and strategic repercussion consideration too.
What's the fastest non mounted foot speed a pc can achieve?
current real world 1 mile run record is 3 min 43.13 seconds aprox 38 rounds for 5280 feet or 139 feet / round.

Hey Randell - absolutely agree - the real heroes of this encounter are the "running" group!
As for the fastest foot speed a pc can achieve... High level monks can start hitting in the region of 90 ft. per round, but for most pc's it would depend on possibly barbarian fast movement (+10 ft) and/or Longstride Travel domain ability (believe Wesh has this)... factor in Running (x3 or x4), Endurance feat etc and they could go some...
I'm at work so just thinking off the top of my head, downside is factors like CON score for running, and of course conditions (keep thinking of the scene in Dog Soldiers when one the squaddies runs headlong into a tree branch - impaling himself... ouch).

Okay "dead-on-his-feet" axeman is looking to parley... while clubman is saying nothing but is up on his feet and looking belligerent...
This could be a delaying action, but also might be an opporchancity to find out more about this leader etc...
+ the delay means the rest of the party get closer... :)
Thoughts anyone?
Dieredon D'atarisian |
In character, I think the Northmen would have a hard time NOT just dicing these guys up. The delay concept is great for us getting there too, but what if the other bandits do not delay. You could be taking a round of unnecessary damage. If you do delay to allow Rianna to Parley, then you should definitely consider employing full defense.

Anyone consider that there may be a second group that is going to attack the caravan we are supposed to be guarding? I have, and have wondered why people are so quick to fly to our rescue and neglect our charge? I haven't said anything until now, because I didn't want to influence any roleplaying, but now that everyone is committed to running to our rescue, I thought it was safe to mention.
Dieredon D'atarisian |
Yep...thought of that too, and that is why I did not ask anyone to accompany me, but having waffled as a PC as to whether accompany you originally, I could not resist once I heard the alarm raised at your location.
Dieredon D'atarisian |
Plus, in game time, It will only take me about a minute to get there - I think that we ought to be able to get back in time, unless of course, they have coordinated the attack ahead of time. That would be unfortunate, but we have one horse, and two of us could rush back!
Skäne “Countless” Ingvârssonn |
Ignore my above partial post, partially eaten!
Agree this could all be one big play... was also going to mention the danger the caravan is now in, be it from bandit attack or some denizen of the wilds...
Okay am going to go with the parley (have square off why Skane might bite), with some Intimidation of the club man thrown in... will hopefully give Rianna some time to parley and see where that gets us...
Although I fear the Great Bear will not keep terms or our deadeye Alchemist ;)

My "maður" just does not give me a chance to use my best qualities, does he?
I'm still nervous about the invisible leader. We really should keep one alive to at least question him.
Oops... Maybe I should read here first.
Speaking of harrowings... what did my "3" mean?

Well, that depends. What is it you wish to seek? I was going to roleplay this out in the thread. I needed the number to help with the first portion.
Oh, and I did an initial drawing, and the third card was the bear. So if the answers you seek deal with that aspect, I will have drawn the bear. I couldn't believe it after I drew it. I almost fell off my chair.

Well, Skane's prognostication has already come half way to fruition. I'll wait for the opportunity to role play it out.
Skäne “Countless” Ingvârssonn |
Okay outgunned I'm opting for the parley... better we get out of here in one piece, and get revenge later... Bjorn I hope you read this first bro!
If we can find out who this guy is (Lucien that was mentioned?) then if he operates out of Deeptown we could hurt him there if we get the chance...???
Know that's alot of "if"s!
Skäne “Countless” Ingvârssonn |
@Dieredon - I reckon even with that keen curveblade, the BrambleKnight and Wesh we'd risk being overrun!
@ Dmrandall - Out of curiosity when Ash goes her seperate ways with the group are you going to try and recruit a replacement? Am thinking that another alchemist or arcane spell user might be a handy in tight spots like our current stand off lol.
Dieredon D'atarisian |
@DMRandall: I thought that we went a little over your anticipated number anyways, didn't we? I was curious about your plans as well. I have no problem proceeding with what we have.
Björn Helsingrsøn |
I came here first! I will post on the IC thread next. I realized that with the pace of this game I should let you know that I don't typically post on Thursdays or Sundays as those are my days off and I often work from 2 pm the day before until 6 am that morning. I go home, sleep and then take the day off... from everything.
Skäne “Countless” Ingvârssonn |
Okay picking up on Bjorn's intimation regarding wasting time until the group arrive... we have 5 rounds grace which takes us to round 14... some 6 or 7 short of everyone arriving (I'm losing touch on how far the reinforcements are...)
We have two clear choices: take the offer and definately live to fight another day (although am not liking the leader's now cocky threat regarding the caravan)...
Or
We go for it. This would clearly be a mad life and death struggle and the game might be somewhat sort lived... :S
I can bot Ash to attack the trio (crossbow/club/axe) with a bomb... IF she survives the AoO by the crossbowman(men??) then she could nail them for decent damage...
Then its a crazy fight to the finish... we've got the club/axe combo in melee range, then that nasty group of crossbow with clubbies...
With the group at near full strength we might have a chance... thoughts???
Dieredon D'atarisian |
I arrive at Round 11 in the middle of discussions. I am planning to approach stealthily with range capabilities. Count me in! I am going to act based on what you guys do.
Björn Helsingrsøn |
Classes opened would be more healers and arcanists.
Whoa! Bjorn is a divine caster. He is a healer! Plus we have Wesh. Sure he's mostly a scrapper, but he can off heal. Then there is Rianna. Even if she doesn't have a healing spell, she can boff people with a heal stick. Good lord! Next I know, you'll be expecting me to rush headlong into overwhelming enemy forces and mow them down with a scythe like ripe stalks of wheat.
