i will punish myself by denying myself a chance at this particular pbp thread.
i incoherently but rudely attempted to prove how you could easily abuse the 2d3 thing and because the group appearantly doesn't want me, i shall drop out of even the stand in slots if i even make it there.
i apologize if i came across as trying to game the system. for my mistake, a shall bow out of even the stand in slots for this specific thread and physically discipline myself with minor annoying pain.
and as further punishment. i will deny myself the right to play a monk until march first 2011.

I have finalized the profile. Bumped up her 'feyness' a bit with her background story and how she came to be the cavalier that she is, 'The Bramble Knight'.
Also, downgraded her armor to banded so I could afford barding for her wolf. She does not have any money sense, so I backstoried how she gets her major equipment.
And Drayen, thanks for lobbying. ;-), but I agree with Randell that I don't want to be too out of balance.
oh, and I am in New Mexico, GMT-7 and pretty much plugged into a computer all day, so posting is never an issue, short of an occasional business trip.
Great character - loving the "Bramble Knight" backstory/mantle

That was truly insane...I had to practically tie my hands behind my back...if it were not for a cranky 8 month old, I definitely would have waeighed in! Graet restraint by all, and thanks Rianna!

I gotta admit, it took me about an hour and 5 rough drafts before I submitted what I did. And even then, I almost didn't.
@Randall: Do you want us to start roleplaying meeting up to guard a caravan? If you could give us a start location and type of caravan, I'm sure we can figure things out from there. I'd like to get to know my fellow travelers a little bit before we get 'roll'ing.
Betony Avilia
Glad I wasn't the only one seeing all that yesterday. I have seen the same thing in other threads and did not want to see it happen here. But I did think long on how I wanted to approach it. I did not want to be too authoritarian just on my own, and was VERY pleased when Rianna stepped in. Thanks.

Yeah the whole thing read more than a little weird... more than a little "off"...
Roleplaying the meeting would be a fun kickoff to everything - am up for that.

Alright, I know generally the GM does this, but I wanted clarification for myself. Thought it would also help for starting off some roleplaying.
Players:
Betony Avilia Bramble Knight
Female Gnome Cavalier (Knight of the Shield) 1
Bjorn Helsingrson
Male Human (Ulfen) Druid (Bear Shaman) 1
Dieredon D'atarisian
Male Elf Ranger 1
Rianna Stendrei
Female Human (Varisian) Bard (Street Performer) 1
Skäne “Countless” Ingvârssonn
Male Human (Ulfen) Fighter (Shielded Fighter) 1
Wesh Velker
Male Human (?) Cleric 1
I know the two "Vikings" have already met. Any ideas?
Dieredon D'atarisian
@Betony: Just tossing this out there as an option. We could have joined the caravan together based upon your forest and fey background. That could have easily placed us in the same place at the same time. Thoughts?
Betony Avilia
Its possible, but Betony will have joined the caravan as a tag along while the caravan has likely already started. She is not a 'merc' and would not sign on at the start of the trip in a city. She sees it her duty to protect, but it is not a job. Likely seeing the fires while patrolling the road, she would come down to join the camaraderie of the caravan. Agreeing to accompany it as a 'guard' as long as the company was nice and the meals were warm.

I took descriptions from everyone's page. If you wish to add anymore info, feel free. EDIT: I was bored, snowed in.
Players:
Betony Avilia Bramble Knight
Female Gnome Cavalier (Knight of the Shield) 1
3'0"; Dark green eyes. Purple hair highlighted with bright pink that tends to spike up in all directions, she tends to have it crammed under a knitted cap whose tassel drapes down her back. She wears a matching scarf that trails behind her also, as does her wolf.
Bjorn Helsingrson
Male Human (Ulfen) Druid (Bear Shaman) 1
6'6"; Platinum blond hair, Grey eyes, Tanned skin. A hulking brute, with massive muscles, and covered in fur.
Dieredon D'atarisian
Male Elf Ranger 1
6'6";Dieredon is large for an elf, standing six and one half feet tall. He is very muscular, but in a wiry, athletically-built manner. He has long silver hair which he normally keeps tied back. His eyes are a penetrating deep violet.
Rianna Stendrei
Female Human (Varisian) Bard (Street Performer) 1
5'4"; Rianna has long brown hair that flows over her shoulders and down to the small of her back. Her eyes are also brown and her skin has the tanned look of a world traveler. She wears a neutral colored traveling blouse and skirt, filled with pockets. Tied around her waist and her neck are two multi-colored scarves. The one at her waist looks to be made of long strips of colored rope wound around and around and appears more rigid than a typical scarf. The other looks like a multi-sectioned patchwork of colors.
Skäne “Countless” Ingvârssonn
Male Human (Ulfen) Fighter (Shielded Fighter) 1
6'3"; Skäne “Countless” Ingvârssonn appears to be the archetypal Viking; Tall and brawny who bears a number of scars, wears his wild reddish-blond hair braided and sports an unkempt beard which frames his slate grey eyes.
Wesh Velker
Male Human (Varisian) Cleric (Desna?) 1
?'?"; Long black hair, brown eyes and olive skin

Interesting thought. I could try to fit that in.
Looking at the profiles
@Bjorn, speed to 20ft due to hide armor, remaining wealth?
@Skane, Berserker's Cry=1/day for two rounds right?
@Rianna, very not familiar with the harrowed feat, may have to change.
wealth left?
not wearing armor?
@Betony
wealth left?
@Wesh
deity,Desna? alignment? spells? wealth left?
nice if could have a profile pic.
Betony Avilia
Don't have my Hero Lab with me at work, but I believe Betony had 12 gp left. But she is not very money wise, so to her that could be 12cp, or a few shiny gems.
One update to her profile, she moves 50ft while mounted and Thistledown has a light load, not 40 as I originally put in the profile, pays to look that up.

Harrowed: Gain a +2 bonus on various skills based on the draw of a Harrow card. Basically, you draw a Harrow card at the beginning of the day and you can apply a +2 bonus to one roll later that same day. What you can apply the +2 to, depends on what you draw. Useable only once per day. I can change it.
30gp 2sp 9cpArmor hinders the arcane spell casting, so no, was not wearing any armor.

Bards can wear light armor and carry a shield with no casting penalty, or is that something tied to the street performer archetype?
Ahh, been awhile since I've played a bard. D&D 3.0 I believe.
Thanks, I'll add some leather armor and a buckler.
EDIT: Updated profile, included wealth. Changed Harrowed to Eschew Materials
Skäne “Countless” Ingvârssonn
Changed Harrowed to Eschew Materials
Pity regarding Harrowed Feat - think it adds some great colour and with the Harrowed deck is pretty interesting... but that's just me. Eschew is a decent compromise, you could just roleplay up the fortune telling during the game?
Randall - Beserker's Cry can be used number of times = 1/2 level + Cha bonus [presumed that I'd round up to 1+1 for the twice per day]
Out of curiousity any one else here ever played or ran a game with a Shielded Fighter? Bit of an experiment for me...
Dieredon D'atarisian
Never have played or experienced play with a Shielded Fighter...should be interesting. I am looking forward to see the Gnome Cavalier in action. It will be awhile until my Skirmisher build comnes it to play, but we are on a fast progression, thankfully.
randall793: How should we kick off the RP? Do you just want to place us somewhere in the caravan when we all have just recently arrived, and then we can take it from there?
Yucale
Wait, did I miss out on joining up? Just had a roughly four hour car drive back to Oregon :).
If there's still a slot open, I was thinking of playing a human alchemist, Ash Jathal, who is traveling in search of career opportunities and more importantly to escape a town where she accidentally blew up something important.

Nope, you didn't miss out. I see your name is on the short list the GM posted on the other forum. Glad to have you with us.

Yeah - there's hairy Northmen and there's HAIRY Northmen! :)
And welcome Ash - with an Alchemist on board think the potential for mayhem just soared lol
Dieredon D'atarisian
In an effort to jumpstart some RPing...
As the caravan came to a stop in the early evening hours, Dieredon stopped briefly to let the Caravan Leader know his intent to do some hunting before dinner. He made quick work of tracking and bringing down a large stag. After deftly gutting and cleaning the carcass, he returned to the caravan campsite with the carcass across his shoulders. He approached the largest cookfire that he could find, near the chuckwagon, and after handing over the deer to the cook, he settled in next to an intriguing-looking gnome companioned with a well-behaved wolf.
As the large elf settles in near the fire, in Gnomish, with a warm smile, he addresses the female. Well met my lady. I am Dieredon D'atarisian. So, what brings you to the caravan to Deeptown?
Björn Helsingrsøn
The massive human in furs leans to his companion, jerking his head in the direction of the elf and gnome as he says 'The álfur er skrýtinn , neitun?'
What speaking in a language only two people understand doesn't promote role playing?
@Skane: If you were curious, I asked above: Is neo-ghnàthach an fear sidhe e fhèin? In case you have Gaelic (I don't imagine you speak Icelandic).
Dieredon D'atarisian
Dieredon turns his attention to the two large humans who appear to be discussing him. Good evening gentlemen...do you speak common?
Ash Jathal
|
"Wow, quite the bunch of linguists. That or this trip is going to get really confusing," Ash comments to no one in particular in Common as she approaches the campfire, having been attracted by the smell of cooking. Her glance lingers on the tall elf, and she takes a seat the farthest from everyone. Maybe that incident in town will have some nice consequences after all. "Uhm, if anyone was wondering, I speak Common? Nice wolf. When's dinner?"
Dieredon D'atarisian
Dieredon stands, half bows in the direction of Ash, then fluidly sits back down and directs his comments to Bjorn, Skane and Ash.
My sincerest apologies. I am Dieredon D'atarisian, and I saw an opportunity to make an acquaintance with this intriguing lady, he gestures to Betony, and since we likely shared a language, I assumed that it would be a potential ice breaker. I certainly did not mean to offend anyone.
As for dinner, the stag I just fell was given to the cook, and I am hoping that it will be served soon. A drink of some sort would be very nice about now...does anyone have any wine or ale?
Skäne “Countless” Ingvârssonn
Skäne absentmindedly packs his clay pipe whilst listening to first Bjorn and then Dieredon.
He smiles wryly at his fellow Northman's comments and mutters Samþykkja þeir allur útlit a lítill skrýtinn!
Bjorn & GM:
As he lights his pipe the Ulfen addresses everyone in harsh common
I am Skäne Ingvârssonn, son of Ingvâr Sharptunga who was a breaker of men and oaths. My kinsman of the North call me "Countless" - either will do. I answer to both.
He gestures his pipe towards Vesh
I see you are a godi of Desna? One of the Tender of Dream’s own in our company is good omen... good indeed.
Skäne then settles back to enjoy his pipe
As for ale I have none - tis a poor day a Northman has no ale or mead at his table eh Bjorn?
Ash Jathal
|
Ash shrugs apologetically. "Sorry, I don't have any drink. I was sort of in a hurry packing- and I didn't want wine mixing with any of my potions. Might make them even more volatile. My full name is Ash Zia Jathal- but you can call me Ash or Zia. Oh, and Sir D'atarisian (may I call you by your first name?), I don't think you offended anyone."
Rianna Stendrei

A Varisian girl dressed in a colorful loose blouse and skirt, and a smile on her face, steps lightly through the circle, humming an ancient Varisian tune. She glides to the fire, looking at it for a moment, light reflecting off her eyes, she turns to the gathered group and unwraps a scarf from around her neck. She takes a deck of cards out of one of the many, now visible, pockets of the scarf and draws a card. She holds the card up to view, angling it so all can see it, without being obvious about it. It is the Marriage card.
"Hmm, interesting." She looks around the group, a smile developing across her face. "It appears the fates have wedded us together for a purpose. That is good."
Rianna turns to the two vikings. "You speak a language I have heard before, but have not learned. Perhaps you would be kind enough to teach it to me? I would be very grateful and I'm sure that I have something that I can trade for it." She winks at the vikings, turns to a soft patch of grass, bends over and dusts the grass with the end of her scarf and sits down facing the vikings. She shuffles the deck of cards and begins to lay them out for a reading. She occasionally looks up at the vikings, listening intently as they speak their native language.
Betony Avilia
Bettony followed the Elf out of the forest. She chuckled thinking of what the Grig Sisters were planning, but she warned them off after he shot the stag. Armed men often lack a sense of humor.
On the edge of the Forest, she saw the caravan below. Making her way to the 'Head Man', she offered the help of the 'Bramble Knight' to defend the gathering with lance and tooth in exchange for a share of the food. She was quite proud of the deal she stuck when she saw the size of the stag the hunter had felled.
She found a quiet spot near a fire and settled down. She can't remember why she was always so tired lately, but being the "Bramble Knight" must be more hard work than she had planned on. She pulled an old bone from her pack and Thistledown laid down to worry the bone while he awaited dinner. Betony took advantage of this and laid her head against her friend.
............................
Betony pried open an eye and was surprised to see a group of people surrounding her at the fire. And there was that hunter fellow speaking about shared languages?
Hearing names being given in a language that flowed a bit easier, she gets to her feet in a rattle of armor and gives a small bow "Betony Avilia and this is my friend Thistledown. We are the Bramble Knight." Finding herself stating at everyone's feet, she straightens up..and up to take in Skane and Bjorn. She side steps over toward Ash, "Ahhhh, pretty lady Ashorzia. You are easier on the eyes and my neck."
randall793
Gather your gear and provisions, the caravan is taking off. Memorize your spells or pray for them, for surely you'll need it. Embark here.
Filios
Ash shrugs apologetically. "Sorry, I don't have any drink. I was sort of in a hurry packing- and I didn't want wine mixing with any of my potions. Might make them even more volatile. My full name is Ash Zia Jathal- but you can call me Ash or Zia. Oh, and Sir D'atarisian (may I call you by your first name?), I don't think you offended anyone."
Diredon takes in the somewhat motely group, and eyes the Varisian with the cards layed out before her.
He turns to Ash first. Ash, my lady, you may certainly refer to me as Dieredon, as may everyone, because as the young lady indicated, we seem to all be wedded together for the venture to Deeptown. He then turns to each party members that have introduced themselves in turn. Well met Countless, Wesh, Betony, and of course, Thistledown.
Dieredon stands and walks over to where the Varisian girl is sitting.
Young lady, would I be imposing to ask your name and for a reading?
