The Slice |
Speaking of reading everything...The DM mentioned above that he'd posted this in the OOC Discussion Thread, so let's take it there, and leave this thread for the game...We have a lot of strong personalities here, which has the possibility to make this an epic game, so it's best we get this settled sooner than later
Germon Falleyas |
Just checking in. Still unconscious? Okay that's fine. Heck of a lot of OOC going on that I don't have the patience to read. I'm just looking for the part that says: "Germon is conscious" That's about it
I'm running a few games myself and one thing I do is I have everyone take turns in two round increments. I post nothing til I have the actions from everyone for the rounds. Then I sum up the results in one post. Nice and easy. That's how I do things anyways. If you want an example. Look Here and This is how it looks in action. So far it works for me and I have yet to come across any problems. Usually I won't post anything significant until everyone has made one post or they have all posted moving on. That is my recommendation. You don't have to use it if you don't want to but go ahead and take any ideas you like.
Also Mathpro is back and has posted on the legacy of fire thread.

After this battle I will be making some changes to how combat flows based upon everyone's input. Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
Lance dances forward and thrusts his sword deftly between the layers of leather armor that one of the lesser hobgoblins is wearing, slashing through lung and heart killing the creature instantly.
The last two hobgoblins move to attack Cael and Lance. One on each of you.
Cael: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 31d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Lance: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 81d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Finally some nice rolls for you guys!
Next round and The Slice is up first. You can easily move to flank with Lance without suffering any AoO's if you wish.
The Slice |
The Slice moves to flank the remaining hobgoblin, and attempts to skewer him with his trusty punching dagger.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24 Punching Dagger attack
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 Critical confirm +2 for flanking = 14
1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 Damage
1d6 ⇒ 1 Precision Damage
2d4 + 2 ⇒ (4, 3) + 2 = 9 Critical Damage if 14 hits.
All these "lucky" rolls scare me for the future
Cael Brannyn |
Seeing his comrades in good hands with sir elf Cael continues with his mighty swing and whirling around attacking the next hobgoblin threatening the sanctity of his "group"
Rage rounds 4/9
Raging power greatsword 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
damage 2d6 + 12 ⇒ (4, 1) + 12 = 17
apparently seeing two of his friends drop is affecting him more than he's letting on

The Slice deftly dodges behind one of the last two Hobgoblins and the next thing anyone sees several inches of blade bursts through the creatures chest before being ripped out. The creature has a somewhat stunned look on its face while it slides to the ground dead.

Sorry for the absentie, but while on vacation the internet has been shotty due to lots of thunderstorms, but for the time being Logarth is here and not bleeding at the moment.
No problem. Sorry you had to come back to this but at least you got a really good shot in before you went down.
Lance Antares |
I'll attack the next hobgoblin I can, preferably one that has flanking with (if that's possible)...
1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 6 + 2 = 20
Damage If I hit...
1d10 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
By the way, while we are fighting these hobgoblins in the room, there was some word about their version of "young", if I am not mistaken. Are they (the young goblinoids) fighting, hiding, cowering, or running?

The last hobgoblin falls beneath Lances blade. The two female hobgoblins crouch with their young. They look terrified.
You have all gained a level! cue final fantasy music! Duh duh duh duh-duh duh-duh dun!

Dice roll for hp: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
When Logarth comes to he looks around and says,"Wow been awhile since I took a shot like that." Upon seeing the boy,"Poor lad, Danail is it possible for you to heal this poor lad perhaps he can yet be saved?"
Logarth then begins to look around for signs of the other child.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
Survival: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Then he will loot the bodies.

Nice roll!
You notice that one of the hobgoblins had a knife wound in his side, you would guess that the boy got a hold of a blade and knifed his guard before fleeing out the back tunnel. You are sure he did not come your direction otherwise you would have seen him. As far as loot goes here is the sum total once you all strip everyone, though with your survival roll you are getting a little worried at the water levels. Pretty soon you may have to swim out. This area is raised so it is only 1 foot deep now but the rest of the areas are significantly more covered with water.
Talks-with-fists had:
Masterwork Greatsword
Breastplate
21 gold pieces, 205 silver pieces and 47 copper pieces in a leather satchel.
The flunkies have 3 sets of studded leather armor,3 longswords,3 longbows and 20 arrows each, along with 25 silver pieces.

"Thank you master Cael, now as for the water I am a bit concerned it is raising more steadily now, perhaps it be wise that those with armor take it off as we may have to take a dip. Seems the other child fled down this tunnel. I think we should go after him and bring at least one child safely back to town."
Darnail Sunsworn. |
If folks are leveling now , they will wake up on their own without further healing from me, yes?
Darnail will move to the child, knowing what he will find but checking for life anyways. Sadly, he will close the eyes, and then take off his cloak to wraps the small body in.
"We won't leave him here. He will be returned to the village for burial."
edit: cael, how are you casting cure light wounds?
The Slice |
The Slice retrieves his thrown dagger, then retreats to a rock a bit apart from the rest of the group. He quietly lays out a leather cloth, and takes out his many daggers one-by-one, inspecting their edges for nicks, and scratches, then giving them a quick polish and edge, all the while whistling an eerie melody under his breath. He will quickly re-sheath them in a blur when the group moves forward.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 Perform: Knife tricks
His excitement at the finished combat making his hands shake a bit as he tries the re-sheathing maneuver. With a slight curse he picks up his dropped throwing dagger, and sheathes his a little harder than necessary. I must learn to control these at all times...they are not toys".

Yes everyone is conscious now due to leveling to at least 1 hp.
Cael took a level of Oracle because he is working towards rage prophet. Also anyone who has not done so already please tell me what type of signature item you would like.
The battle is over and now you have a question as to where to go and what to do about the remaining hobgoblins. As I said the water is still rising and in addition to the spot where you came in there is another tunnel leading further into the mines from this room.
Darnail Sunsworn. |
Okay. Does that mean all my powers refresh because we leveled? and i have no longer used 6 of my channels, 2 of my domain powers and 1 of my spells? If everyone instantly recharges when we level do we jump back to full hit points? This is different from how my tabletop group does it(which is the new stuff comes when you next rest for the night) so i'm seeking understanding to know what's what. Oh, and eh, Elven Chainmail i suppose.

pure awesomeness. What you thought I was just a big dumb barbarian?
Cael will hoist Germon up much like a wolf will do with a cub and say stand up your not hurt that bad. And give him a hearty slap on the back it was good what you did but next time it might help having a bigger weapon and points to the hobgoblins greatsword.
Cure light wounds 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Looking at the collapsed Cael, "Perhaps a bit of martial arts conditioning would do you good." Logarth bellows with laughter and then goes over to help Cael up.

No anything you have already used is still used. You also do not gain full hp when you level. For instance you have still used 6 channels, etc. but now if you have say 7 channels per day you would essentially have one left for today.
imimrtl |
But if i gain a level in a spellcasting class I suddenly gain memorised spells and abilities that i didn't have access to seconds before? That is weird to me and makes no sense from my perspective, but alright then! you're the dm!
Memorized spells are different. Those you would not get until you were able to memorize them. But you could use the unprepared slots for cure spells if you are a cleric or summon natures ally if you are a druid that sort of thing.
Logarth |
Logarth begins to snarl a bit,"If we be going after the lad that is alive I wager that we best be movin as I have little desire to become a buoy. Also I once again persist that those of you who wear armor remove it before we be swimming." Logarth says and looks very proud of the fact that he does not have to disarmor himself.
Lance Antares |
I say nothing, but pick up the boy that has been butchered and hold him. I have sheathed my sword and I walk up the tunnel that they have indicated.
How heavy is the boy?
I do not look proud, or happy, or really much of anything. My expression is neutral, and my eyes flat. I turn to Darnail.
"|Brother, my services are entirely inconsiquential to the disocovery of the other child, and to the assistence of whatever may stand in the way of his rescue, should it need be completed. Thou art correct in thy request to return him to a true place of burial, however. I shall, therefore, take him with me now to the place of his fathers so that he me may be looked after. If thy discover the other lad, please do thy best to see that he is well taken after. I would not have him perish as this one did,|"I add.
Then I turn and walk back up the tunnel, carrying the boy to where the chains are that we climbed. I will do what I can to get the boy to the top; my intention is to bind the body securely, climb the chain and pull his body up with rope fastened under his arms, then carry him back to the village.
They don't really need my help to find the other boy, and if the water is comming down hard, then getting the body out of the water now is better now then later.
Cael Brannyn |
Upon Lance's speech to Darnail and subsequent exit Cael will add Hmph, So Sir Elf what did he say? Are we no longer seeking out the children? Cael says as he starts doffing his armor. He then looks at his armor and you see his face almost sadden as he lays his sword with the rest of the stuff and withdraws a dagger.
If nothing else is said, upon removal of the hides on his chest the nasty gash on his chest quite visible and still bleeding. He grips his dagger in his and plunges into the river.

In reply to Lance:
"|While i am glad you agree with me as to the boy needing to be returned, you do yourself a disservice in saying you are inconsequential to the other child. Without everyone, i think we all may have fallen in this chamber. I cannot say what else lies further, but my instincts say that we have not weathered everything and i would ask that you stay with us. I would like to return the boy and the ghost's body both to town for last rights and burial. Yet, as saddened by this fate as i am, Brith's words come to me. 'It is Right to mourn those that have passed, but it is important to not neglect those who still Live.' Another child's life still hangs in the balance, and we should endeavor to make sure a tragedy like this does not befall him as well. Please stay and help us.|
That having been said, Darnail will not press the issue any further, and should Lance choose to depart, he will understand why he does so, and not stop him.
In reply to Cael.
"He feels great remorse over the loss of the child, as do many. We need to find the other, before things get worse down here."
AFAIK, unless i got this wrong from leveling up as well, you would have gained your HP from leveling and not be only at 3hp?
Darnail will appear solemn, and look around the room at the others, silently assessing their condition.
Could i get a summary of how hurt everyone is before we leave this room?
Logarth |
Logarth has 6 hp currently
Aye a watery grave is no good for any person let alone a young boy. My vote is to find the other so that we can at least return one boy whole."
Logarth slips off his wooden sandles and plunges down into the waist deep water.
"Master Cael seems I wasn't the only one to take a good slashin' seems like you will have a scar across your chest while mine...mine across the back. We have indeed shared much. I shall buy you a stiff drink when we get back to town and perhaps tell a story or two."
Germon Falleyas |
After Cael hoists Germon up and points at the sword. Germon is in a state of bewilderment. He looks around. "I am still alive, I have all my gear, and somehow the boy and the goblins are all dead." He listened to the barbarian suggest the sword. Germon waved a hand in dismissal. "I have no need of such a weapon. My families blade is sharp enough. If anything needs improving it is my own skill with it." Germon glances at the battlefield once more. "I assume things didn't work out like I had hoped. The beast was stronger than me and was therefore the better man. Though I am saddened by the loss of the boy, I cannot help but feel I've learned something from this exchange. Every battle we walk away from we learn something." Germon will touch his sword with a spell and it will illuminate. "Finally, I got that confounded trick to work. Magic is a tricky feat indeed. I'm glad I got it working." Germon will then attempt to heal his injuries.
Cure light woulds:1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
I'm assuming Germon can cast these spells right off the bat since Cael was able to.
Germon will then nod. "A proper service is necessary. We need to move quickly less we lose another young one. I will not proceed until everyone is ready to." With that Germon will collect his lantern and stow it in his bag. Hoisting his shield and glowing sword, Germon waits for the others to follow.

"|Thou does well to chastise me on leaving one who yet lives. Yet what is this who would find him, but a mob? No discipline, no honor, no unity as would befit those of true company. Yet, thy words speak to the heart. For the sake of he that lives, I shall come with thee, for now. As usual, the wisdom of thy people has shed much light on the shadow of folly.|"
I gently lay the boy the ground, but before he slides under the water I kiss his brow softly. I have no love for child murderers, or those who would slay the innocent with reckless abandon. Placing my hand to my hilt I draw my blade from the sheath and indicate that he lead on; if so, I shall follow.

"Logarth, Brith's Mercy shall ease your pain."

Concentrating one again, he will let the Light flow over everyone nearby.
Channel Energy, should effect Cael, Germon, and Logarth.
1d6 ⇒ 5
After all that, he will square his shoulders and give a look to the others that he has done all he will do here and is ready to move on.
"Let us delay no further, and find this other child. Thank you for waiting for me."
Cael Brannyn |
If we automatically gained the hp then Cael is at 10/21 with the channel 15/21
At Lance's and Darnail's exchange he merely raises an eyebrow, now is not the time to let on that he was finally able to understand the Elf tongue. He merely utters hpmh.
@lograth. Thanks my friend that will be wel needed.
Before plunging into the water he prays before his sword. Lo there do I see my father. Lo there do I see my mother and my sisters and my brothers. Lo there do I see the line of my people, back to the beginning. Lo, they do call to me, they bid me take my place among them, in the Halls of Valhalla, where the brave may live...forever.

One quick question, what do you want to do with the hobgoblin women and children? Are you leaving them to their own devices?
As you press into the water it goes up to near your shoulders. The tunnel progresses and all of a sudden the ceiling dips into the water and if you wish to proceed you will have to swim. You cannot tell how far you will have to swim in order to get to the next air pocket.

Ok you all get to the tunnel and see that it dips down underwater, you are all going to need to swim to the next air pocket. It is close enough so you do not need to make swim checks. When you are underwater you notice that the tunnel has a branch that goes off to the right deeper under water and ends at what appears to be an unfinished section of tunnel. Directly ahead in the tunnel there appears a air pocket and once you break the surface you see that the tunnel reaches a dead end. Huddled in the darkness that is broken only by your light is a small boy of about 8. He seems terrified and has his hands over his ears as if blocking out a sound. Right before you speak you start to hear something as well.
