Ah dang it all
Once Germon notices Provided he'd at least be allowed to look back that Logarth and Slice have not left the windmill, he will turn about to make sure everyone is okay. Back to the windmill. He will look for Slice and Logarth.
Perception Germon: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Perception Barrett: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

I'm going to say it straight. Some people are posting too much and not waiting for other players like Slice who can't post as often. Thus we never get everyone's opinions. These PBPs don't need to go so fast. Some of us just got to slow down. There will be no communication if we don't talk to each other and wait for responses. Few people have said anything to Germon and when they have, they don't even wait for me to respond before moving on. What's the hurry anyway?

I agree. It seems like we're in a race. The joy of PbP is that you can take your time to see the scenery, talk to the NPC's and attach yourself to the story. We seem to rush through everything. Still I've done my share of complaining, and If The Slice somehow lives through this I'll just shut up and do my best...at my own pace. Sometimes like the last couple of days I can post a lot, but if I'm on a business trip I can't.

Male to kill the six fingered man Duelist/20 years

Ok here is what's going to happen. When I put up the recruitment board I said that everyone needed to post a MINIMUM of once per day. I am currently in 6 games and this is the slowest game that I am in. If you are posting the minimum of once per day and that works for you then fine, but I am not going to tell people not to post when they want to post. You are right it's not a race but that doesn't mean that I am going to tell people NOT to post. There are a lot of things going on in this game that I am not enjoying. Even when the posts are slowed, you all cannot seem to get along well enough to even go through a two room building. I am seriously considering just stopping the game because what was supposed to be fun has turned into a really bad episode of Jerry Springer with people pointing fingers and making snide comments. So I will leave the ball in everyone's court. If you want to quit, that's fine no hard feelings. If you want to continue, that's awesome and would love to have you. What I WILL NOT HAVE is continued bickering and arguing. I have enough going on in my life right now to not deal with that. Cael and Lance know me in real life and know what stuff I am talking about. As I said the ball is in your court, just let me know.

"Well padre, beggin yer pardon... but how about ye be telling us on this weapon of good master "Starkweather" John... As I said earlier, I'm thinking that his weapon, the birthsigns on our flesh, the sorcery that brought us here, and the hints of some vague prophecy... Well, mayhap they all be conjoined somehow?"

I glance at Darnail.

"Seeing on how we got them signs on our flesh... and mayhap my guess be right and they all be connected by prophecy... well; if we all be connected, mayhap it be a good idea to round us all up and try to get this thing hacked out, eh?"

I glance out at the sky and frown.

"We all got's our problems with each other; true.... but if we don't get 'em solved, then we all may as well be damned if our fates be conjoined. I ain't be the best o' the lot, neither, seemingly. After we get our hash settled here, why don't we try rustling up the crew and see if we can't be acting as mates rather then hacking on each other... else we be dead and what prophecy called us here be foiled, like as not. Hell; I'll even buy the Gaelic lad a drink myself, if whatever problem that magicked us here gets solved right and we then be free lads."

Looking back to the priest I cock an eye.

"Sorry fer going on at length, padre... I like a free horizon under me feet... If I be bound here by prophecy, I'd assume solve it and sail on the better. Me and my mates ain't doing that if we at each other throats, but even if we all stand here a'front of ye, we still needing facts on this blade. What do ye got to offer, us, eh?"

Male Human Cavalier level 1

I'm still in this. This has been far from a problem for me. I'm just waiting on a response to my action.

You can return Germon. You can get there in two rounds if you do nothing but move.

You manage to get a good slice...pardon the pun lol...through him with your second attack. He isnt down but he looks like he is about to go down.

Male to kill the six fingered man Duelist/20 years

The priest looks at you both, giving you each a good loooong hard once over. It really seems like he wants to help you but is careful about putting his town at risk.

I dinna believe that ye were anything other than what ye be saying, i just have to be careful to protect my flock. I know now that we cannot stay here and you barin them marks means something. The sword be under that flagstone over there. The one with the cross mark in the corner.

Male Human Barbarian 1/Oracle 1

Cael bursts into the bar still seemingly distracted and begins to talk up everyone once again. When he pulls out a stool he pulls an additional one out as well. He will spread good cheer (buy a couple rounds for the bar) and loosen peoples tongues. Once everyone's started to look in rather good cheer. He will start asking about the sword. When hit upon buy a bar wench, he will politely decline and palming a peice of cloth.

Male Human Cavalier level 1

When Germon arrives what round is it? Should I assume action to the previous post?

Once Germon gets back to the windmill he hears the sounds of battle.Totally assuming as I didn't get a result for my earlier perception checks and follows that. He will have his sword and shield ready and once he finds the battle he will begin calling out. "Hold on I am coming to help! Stand strong the enemy isn't that powerful." Initiating Inspire Courage and moving next to Slice. I will offer him a +2 to his AC should he need it per the Saving Shield Feat.

Initiative:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16

I am going to apologize for any behavior problems I am having. I have been a DM for 12 years and have little to no experience as a player, even less as a player on PBP. I thought it would be easier than RL. This is tough but I will keep going. So I wont complain anymore, I will simply adapt or just post.

I look at the cross mark, rubbing my chin. I am tempted to head over there and just start digging, but somehow that doesn't seem appropriate somehow...

"Well, lad, if it be attached to prophecy, as may be, it would seem that it'd be made fer us... But ye be more expert on religiouisity then I am. Does just digging it up stand right with ye? Is there some words or such we ought to be saying, or what? And once we do claim the blade, what then? Who be earning it, and what'd be good fer?"

I am speaking now to Darnail, our resident cleric. I presume that he knows what to do in such a situation regarding religious relics and artifacts. I certainly don't. I am also looking to the priest, looking to him for any cue. Either way it stands, I don't intend to do any specific digging until I know more. It seems wrong to dig up a church yard somehow... but I don't know customs on this. I am hoping Darnail does.

"Your concern is understandable. How many know the sword is there, if i may ask? We should let the others know this news as soon as possible. Also, do you have any idea where this Jim fellow would be right now? He shouldn't be allowed to run around causing more trouble; i don't think the village needing to move on to safety would exactly go over well and he would no doubt cause more trouble."

Turning to Lance:

"Help me lift this stone, please. So we may do this carefully. I'll answer the rest based on what we find below. Mayhap the answer will be made apparent on its own merit."

Darnail will then move over to the flagstone, deep in thought and concentration. Lifting his medallion and murmuring a quiet chant in Elvish before scanning it with detect magic to look for any surprises. If Lance moves to help, he will try to lift it with him carefully to not cause any damage.

I will wait for Darnail's prayers and spells to be cast first. But before he acts I speak.

"Patience, brother... this thing may yet be trapped by some hero dedicated to protecting the weapon from some ancient pillager. Maybe we should give it a quick once over before diving in...And ye sure ye ain't got no regrets on us moving to do this, padre?"I add, looking once at the priest for assurance on this.

But in either case, I'll step up and look it over.

Take 20 on Perception...

Logarth: With a mighty Ki-yaaa! You drop the cretin Jim.

Immediately following that one arrows shoot for you and the other two go for Slice as they seem a bit worried about the electric blast you just let out into their boss.

Logarth: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 71d6 ⇒ 4

Slice: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 221d6 ⇒ 21d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 201d6 ⇒ 4

Logarth the one on you missed. Slice they both look like they are going to hit, the first one a potential crit, 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 191d6 ⇒ 6 yikes, which confirms

So Slice you have taken 12 damage this round, which drops you to -8 and you are bleeding out. That is the end of round two, Logarth your turn first in round 3 and Germon will arrive at the beginning of round 4.

Male to kill the six fingered man Duelist/20 years

Darnail and Lance: The flagstone is not trapped as far as you can tell, and Darnail, curiously is not radiating any magical auras. This strikes you as strange because an item such as this should be easily detected by your spells, though there could be many reasons why it does not resonate.

Father Bronson looks over at your progress and says The whole town knows that the sword lies somewhere within the town limits but none knew exactly where save myself. It was told to me by the previous priest whom I took over for and the priest before him and so on. I knew that there would be someone worthy to take it at some point but I hoped it would be long after my time.

Actually I took two points from the trap as well, so I'm at -10 and dead. Too bad I was really enjoying the game, despite the issues that had come up. Great story...and hope to see you others around the boards. I'll be following along

Holy crap. I had forgotten about the trap damage. You have one more save to try and stabilize at -10 next round unless Logarth has some way to stabilize you.

Glancing at Darnail...

"When we be getting this blade, who do ye reckon on who should be getting it? Hate to say it, but the best lad o' the group I've seen so far with a sword is the Gaelic lad. Maybe he be the one that ought to get it... but if it be the truth of things, then maybe the sword be meant for someone specific, as may be. Perhaps there be some charm or magic power that'll call the blade to them who gets it... or maybe the blade'll call one of us to it."

Male Elf Cleric 2

we also have the Voice's out as a PlanB if Slice should indeed die. Take heart Slice!(and damn, i'm sorry i'm not there, really.)

"One should not place the cart before the horse that pulls it." Darnail quotes the proverb in response to Lance.

"Retrieving the object does not mean immediately giving it to someone to wield, and to be frank do not consider myself 'in charge' to make that decision without the others. Mayhap one of us will have a reaction to it that the rest do not. We do not even know what type of weapon it is nor what it can do. That said, i do not detect anything amiss magically. Please lift from that side. We'll bring it to everyone and take the next step from there."

Darnail will open the flagstone at that point, unless it's harder then expected.

"Apologies... just used to elves giving orders,"I grin somewhat sheepishly.

"Back at the academy,"I say with a grunt as I help him move the stone aside "it were Elven folk alone that were the masters and commanders; we were just them that obeyed without question, as we were all students."

I push the stone harder now as we lift it from the grooves.

"Hell, ye talk on old sayings... when me and my mates were all studying in Charter House we used to joke... being that we were human lads and all, fer the most part, though we did have a half-elf with us... gods he was pushed something awful, though he became one of the hardest officers to graduate, deadly on deck, and ye'd want him at yer side rather then standing in front of ye with weapons ready, or gods forbid comming at ye from yer back... but anyhow; we had our own saying of them that gave the schooling, seeing as how all the headmasters were Elven folk, as ye know from living in Saragost, well, we all done said of them: "There's the right way, the wrong way, and the Elven way." Guess it kind of sticks with me. But if it burns yer bacon that I treat ye different, that's rum luck... come on, now... come on... heave..."I add with a strain as we keep pushing, sweat on my brow, then turning to look at him with a grin.

"All me life in Saragost, and at Charter House... obeying Elves as officers that snap out orders... Hell, lad, it's kind o' ingrained in me, as ye may say. But make no mistake, I ne'er thought nor presume to be thinking yer the boss o' me or any o' us... or "in charge" as ye put it... but ye be a priest and know magic, and I'd reckon dweomer crafty besides... hence me asking on yer opinion on something. But I ain't be asking fer orders on nothing... hell; this crew can't agree on the color of "black" half the time. I don't reckon no one be putting themselves forward to give orders. I just be asking yer opinion is all..."

As we tumble the stone and aside, wait for the dust to settle so we can look down and see what there is to see, I add a last word.

"But as fer the weapon? I reckon it be a sword, as they be saying it the "sword" of this Starkweather John, lad. But as fer who be gaining right to claim it? I offered thought on who could be using a sword best, as I saw it... but as fer right? Well hell, it sounds like ye be thinking on the same course as I do... either we claim the blade for one o' us to use, or the blade call one o' us to use it... Anyhow, we be finding out right soon. But first, I be curious to see what's down there..."

I add the last with a friendly grin that look over the side to see what is down there...

And now I just wait for the descritpion. When I know more, I'll move from there...

Male to kill the six fingered man Duelist/20 years

Under the flagstone is a long shallow hollow with a bundle nestled inside it. The cloth looks to be rough burlap, the kind you would see covering a bag of flour or grain, not exactly what you'd expect to be covering an artifact such as this. As a matter of fact, you see what looks to be a traders stamp, nigh worn away from age, on the burlap. It looks like a pig's head. You get the impression that this was not put here with much ceremony and was instead thrust in here quickly to hide it within whatever was at hand.

When you pull the bundle out you get a reverberation of energy coming from the bundle. It vibrates in each of your chests in turn as if searching for something before falling silent.

As you both stare at the bundle you think to yourselves...What now?

Male Elf Cleric 2

"That's quite alright Lance. I don't mind the questions at all. Your tales from Charter House ring truthful in my ears. That does seem to be how i remember things as well. ... And there we have it."

Darnail will purse his lips and stare down.

"I felt something, like it was 'looking' at us. I don't think it was looking for me specifically."

Reaching down carefully, Darnail will lift the bundle up into the chapel and slide the sack away enough to look at the blade itself.

"Lets go find the others. I feel like it will recognize one of us, that's what my instincts tell me here."

Darnail will let Lance look at it as long as he likes (several minutes tops) before covering it and rising, tucking it under his arm.

"Where did the others say they would be do you recall?"

Naturally, I'd like to get a look at the blade itself. What kind of weapon is it? Where did it come from? Who could have fashioned it, and that sort of thing.

"Hmm... the Gael went drinking, if memory serves me. The lad with the pup is out trying to find the sheriff. I believe the knife-man was looking around the windmill for something, and I think Logarth went back to him..."

A sudden light flashes in my eyes.

"Do you know, when we approached windmill, I saw movement in the rooms. I even called out to you all and said as much, warned about the movement behind the window... No one saw anything inside, as far as I know, that would suggest movement... I figure'd maybe it were just the wind. So I didn't say naught on it, thinking it were just my imagination... but if there were lads in there, and they were hiding from us, and they were discovered... it could be a dangerous thing! We have what we came for here, but I'd say keep it safe for a piece from the other's in the town... but we may got mates up at that site that could use some help. If that be some sort of hide-out for this thug Oakenbough, or whatever his name is... he may got mates up there in hiding... not happy that we took the chest o' gold, and may try to get payback if they be loitering up there still. Hell, they could have even made an ambush, if the other lads were fool enough to try something... means they may be walking into a trap. Means they may be in trouble... means they may need help! I can make a dash for them quick, if you want to go get the Gael at the pub and the other lad who went to go find the sheriff. Meet me there with the others. Could be Logarth and the chatty knife-man need our aid,"I add and start to make a quick dash back to the windmill.

I pause and turn to the priest, and call over my shoulder to him.

"Thanks again fer yer help, padre. Sorry fer diggin up yer church, but we got's work to do. Meantime, if I ain't be mistook, ye got an army of Underdark bastards comming up on ye right quick. Ye may want to deal with them... and get yer people the hell out o' here. We'll help as we can when we get back!"I say, adding the last with a quick wave.

As I know where the windmill is, and how to get to it, I will simply run for it. However, I will keep an ear cocked for trouble. When I reach the crest of the hill that the windmill sits on, I will lay flat and crawl the last several paces, keeping low and trying to maintain cover, as I currently assume there is danger there, due largely to the fact that I saw people through the windows, and said so to the others.

I will therefore use stealth, but only toward the end, when I get close, as I did before when I waited for my comrades to search the windmill and waited for the possible enemies I told them about through the window that I saw.

I presumed there was no enemies, as they didn't stop us from taking the gold. But now, with Logarth and the knife man missing for so long, I am not sure. There may have been someone inside after all...

Male Elf Cleric 2

"Blast and damnation. They went back in? Lets get back there! We'll take this with us however."

Darnail will rewrap the weapon and stow it over his shoulder for now. as he makes for the door just behind Lance.

"Father, take that chest to the Mayor, and convene a town meeting if possible! we'll meet at the inn everyone in town seems to use. Lance! You're swifter then i am in this mail, go ahead and i'll be there as swift as i can. Be careful!"

Darnail will follow behind lance, but being slower will arrive later then he would. maybe in time to apply some bandaids however

Male to kill the six fingered man Duelist/20 years

Logarth you are going first in round 3. Slice is bleeding heavily at your feet. There are three people with bows in there with you. The door is approximately 15 feet away.

Male to kill the six fingered man Duelist/20 years

When you pull the blade out it looks like it was created by a first year apprentice smith. It has carbon marks all over it. It looks to be made of pig iron and has terrible balance. You think to yourself that this is a horrible looking sword and not fit for anyone but something about it makes you think that there is more than meets the eye. cue transformers music

When you start running back to the windmill you will be there in about 4 minutes if you run hard as it is a bit out of town.

"Don't worry overmuch on me... you'll be slow, aye, so go call out the other lads... they be in the pub, or by the sherrif... they be handy with a blade, I'll warrant; and they be comming faster then you. The Gael can run fast, if I don't guess wrong. The other lad, the one talking on the drow... he be heading to the sheriff... get them all, maybe round up a posse or some such... If there be real trouble, more swords'll be better then not...then catch up as you can."

I am hoping that Darnail stops at least quick enough to get Cael, Germon, the sherif and maybe whoever is with Germon and the sherif, and possibly a posse, or militia or whoever is there to help.

Male Elf Cleric 2

That really doesn't sit right with me logic wise from in character perspective, as you can't treat injury if there are any there. Yet in the spirit of gathering folks together i'll go with it! ;)

Darnail will pull to a stop then, and head towards the inn instead, pushing open the door and sweeping his eyes across the room and the crowd.

"Cael!"

Darnail will take a minute to catch his breath.

My actions for round 4 still stand. I'll keep watch for when I need to post. Though Friday is my game day. Posting will be spotty if at all.

Male Human - Saves (STR +1, DEX +6, CON +2, INT+5, CHA +3) INIT: +7 (Rakish Audacity) Rouge / 3 (Swashbuckler), Passive Perception 11, AC 15, HP 24/24, HD 3/3: SPD 30, (Common, Dwarvish, Elvish, Orc, Thieves Cant

Seeing his opponent weaken but not go down with his new found ability, The Slice, prepares himself for a parry, when his new friend Loggarth comes flying in, and takes out the villain. Now there is a man whose fighting style I respect. Just then he hears the whistle of air, and before he can blink first one impact then another...the the pain, pain like he had never felt before...then...

His eyes clouded over. His happy childhood with his family... Appearing in the ring on the hill, his heart excited with the adventure...even visions of his new, but sometimes difficult companions...then silence except for the beating of his own heart, somehow amplified in his head...then darkness...

Male Human Barbarian 1/Oracle 1

I apologize for my absence my wife tried to commit suicide this week. If you need to NPC me or if you would rather I drop out then I shall do so. As for something to stabelize Slice let me check my inventory. Logarth has +3 to heal to try and stabelize Slice.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17

I heard in the other game we are in together. Take all the time you need. Have no fear of being dropped and I will NPC you in the meantime. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Logarth sweeps down to try and help his friend, fortunately this drops him out of sight below the rotating stone wheel in the middle and means that the other three cannot get clear shots on him as yet. Logarth is able to stabilize the Slice at -10 but since this should have killed him, he is going to need magical healing before he can be moved. If he is moved or jostled in any way he will instantly perish.

One of the bandits moves from around the wall and shoots an arrow at Logarth. 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 201d6 ⇒ 5

Which hits into Logarth's shoulder.

Begin round 4

Germon and Logarth go first.

Male Half-Orc Monk level 1

"Damn you all! You shall perish this day!"
Logarth's eyes turn a darker shade of red.
Acrobatics:1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Logarth jumps through the air with a superman punch.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
If hit:
1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Male Human Cavalier level 1

He will have his sword and shield ready and once he finds the battle he will begin calling out. "Hold on I am coming to help! Stand strong the enemy isn't that powerful." Initiating Inspire Courage and moving next to Logarth. I will offer him a +2 to his AC should he need it per the Saving Shield Feat. "I didn't realized you two had stayed behind. I should have been paying more attention" He looks down at Slice. "And now look what my ignorance has cost us. Another comrade. Let us defeat our foe." Inspire Courage is a standard action.

Logarth is enraged at his comrades condition and doesn't have the focus necessary to properly aim his punch. It just misses his foe. He is heartened though when Germon charges in beside him with his words of encouragement.

The man you attacked drops his bow and pulls a Rapier as his companions come around the other side of the mill wheel to attack you both from behind. They have also dropped their bows and one is wielding a very nice longsword and the other is wielding a beautifully crafted heavy mace.

The one wielding the mace moves up to flank Germon with the man wielding the rapier and the one with the longsword attacks Logarth.

Rapier1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 2 = 101d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Longsword1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 61d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Mace1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 3 + 2 = 181d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

And they all miss. You are up again boys.

Male Elf Cleric 2

"This isn't the time to drink Cael, Logarth and Slice stayed behind at the windmill and may have run into that group from before. We need to make sure they are okay."

Having said that, Darnail will turn to leave, but will pause to wait for Cael hoping he would follow also.

Male Human Cavalier level 1

Germon will attack the man closest to himself. Barrett will move in to flank and attempt to bite.

Germon's attack:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23+2 More if Barrett is able to flank before Germons attack. For 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10Damage

Barrett's Initiative:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Barrett's Acrobatics to avoid AoO and get into flanking position:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Barrett's attack:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20 For 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Male to kill the six fingered man Duelist/20 years

Germon your attack hits with vicious force, opening a slash along the man in front of you. He is still up but looks badly wounded. Barrett attempts to move to flank with you but stumbles a bit while going through the enemy line. He suffers 2 AoO's strike 11d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 211d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 Strike 21d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 171d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 Both of which strike your hound and he yelps in pain.for a total of 11 damage to Barrett

Male Human Cavalier level 1

Barrett is still standing, does he still get his attack in?

Male Half-Orc Monk level 1

Logarth tries to calm himself.
Flurry of Blows on the closest baddie.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
If hit:
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Male to kill the six fingered man Duelist/20 years

Barrets attack lands and he savages one of the remaining 3 men. He rips the mans throat out in a spray of arterial blood.

Male Human Barbarian 1/Oracle 1

Having been told what has been occurring Cael will drop some coin and rush to the aide of the others.

What information did I find out at the bar?
