Zombie horror survival game
High school of the dead beginning

FAQ v.1
1. When in the Zombie Outbreak will this game take place?
The game will start off as a regular school day. Someone will see the first exposure and soon over the intercom you hear someone get eaten.

2. Who will the characters be in the game?

High schoolers.
Last year for one reason or another, you need to choose why, your parents moved you to Japan to learn at a prestigious school.
Are you a sophomore, junior, or senior?

Pick your stereotype (you should pick one):
Jock
Goth
Outcast
Band Geek
Tech Geek
Nerd
Honor student/Study student, straight As
Mean girl
Cheerleader
Hippy
Scateboarder

What are your focuses in school:
You may pick as many as you want (highest focus at beginning of list, least focus at the end, probably stick to 3):

Computers
Sports: which ones?
Glee club
Honor club
Musical instruments/band club
Good grades
4-H
FFA
Friends
Drama
Politics
Popularity
Opposite sex
Sex
Drugs
Alcohol

3. How many people are you interested in?
I am open to running this game with anywhere from 4-8 players.

4. Which game system will be used?
I am thinking D20 modern. With a transfer into pathfinder down the road as magic becomes real.

5. How will wealth work in this game?
Wealth will be a measure of how much stuff you had before the outbreak. At Character Generation spend wealth as normal. Bear in mind that you would also be packing light for school so I would expect two inventories of items. Things you own and things you have on you.

6.
What would be the expected post rate of players?
I would anticipate post rate of about 1/day. Weekends are flexible.

7.
How will the virus be transmitted mechanically?
By bite obviously. But thinking of a mechanic where the zombies must first grapple before biting. They can claw for damage without grapple but to bite would require a grapple first.

8. What is the players objective?
Overall game objective is to survive. With police and government focused on containment little help can be expected from them. Find/make weapons, find shelter, find food, then find families.
Additional individual objectives may vary but should be relayed to me by pm.

9.
A hero’s allegiance can take the form of loyalty to a person, to an organization, to a belief system, to a nation, or to an ethical or moral philosophy. In general, a character can discard an allegiance at any time, but may only gain a new allegiance after attaining a new level. You may have 3 alliances.
http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/resources/systems/pennpaper/modern/ smack/allegiances.html

10.
2nd level characters
Bonuses based on character but basic creation 4d6 six times for abilities. Only add the top three of each roll.

There will be objective XP rewards so if you pm me a personal objective than I assign an XP reward value to it. These rewards plus the swarms of undead should get you leveled pretty quickly.

11.
Everything D20 Modern base is allowed except what is listed as No below. Other source books on case by case basis.
No Magic
No FXs
Human Characters only.
Late PL5 time frame
There will be limited material acceptable from D20 Future and Urban Arcana. That will be updated on the campaign info page as approved.

I'm interested, I will look over the D20 modern rules. What city/area in japan are you thinking of and will the areas be similar to maps from google earth etc so we have something as a reference?

Lantern Lodge

4d6: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 3, 1) = 11 =10
4d6: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 3, 6) = 17 =14
4d6: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 5, 1) = 10 =9
4d6: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 3, 1) = 11 =10
4d6: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 1, 5) = 14 =13
4d6: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 1, 1) = 10 =9

hmm possibilities arise...

forgot to roll

Set 2: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 1, 3) = 10 = 9
Set 2: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 2, 1) = 8 = 7
Set 2: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 1, 1) = 9 = 8
Set 2: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 4, 4) = 17 = 14
Set 2: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 6, 4) = 19 = 15
Set 2: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 4, 3) = 15 = 13

Well, that'll be ineteresting

Let´s give it a try
4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 4, 3) = 16 =13
4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 3, 5) = 20 = 17
4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 2, 2) = 11= 9
4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 5, 2) = 15=13
4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 4, 6) = 16= 15
4d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 1, 6) = 18 = 17
This has potential.
Maybe a Honor student.
With interest in good grades, socially a bit awkward.
Du we have to keep the stats in that order or can we arrange them in another way.?

Show time
4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 6, 6) = 21 = 18
4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 6, 1) = 9 = 8
4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 5, 2) = 19 = 17
4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 2, 5) = 18 = 16
4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 3, 1) = 13 = 12
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 1, 4) = 11 = 10

Well thats a 30 point buy so thats good.

GM could I suggest you missed out "GangBanger" but its Japan so that could be hard.

Thinking of a poor kid from the wrong side of town. He was a "GangBanger" who got into Martial arts and Karat [You can see where this is going right.] He won a few competitions and meet an old Japanese gent who unknown to him, placed his name in for a scholarship Japan. This he got and so as his mother wanted him safe out of Gang-banger truff she signed so he could go under the supervision of the old Japanese gent. Who just happens to have family close to the school.

Background: African American, poor innercity, USA.
Family: Mother.
Year: junior
Stereotype: Jock [Ex-GangBanger]

lol... sounds interesting. Will it have the voluptuous, big breasted high school girls, teachers, and hot military sniper women?

Big boobed women who dodge bullets by wiggling their boobs.

You may move your ability scores around, the first one does not have to be strength.

Yeah we can add gangbanger and other suggestions too.

I hope for big breasted women!!! When in doubt there will be NPCs as such!

Considering you start out as students we wont be worrying about wealth anything under 10 should be easy to come by, you may pick three items under 18, two which have to at your parents/guardians house. More insentives to get home.

Rostam I had not thought of using google earth or an actual city. It might be easier going that route, any suggestions?

I think taking my nephew as example. Black belt tae kwon do, plays piano, saxophone, and clarinet, speaks german english french and latin, already takes university courses in physics, has a piloting licence. And is 15 years old going to gymnasium with straight As. And worst of all he is a nice, good looking lad

Nice Helikon!

This Helikon´s application
Electra Felicitas von Tannhausen
Daughter of a german embassy attachee.
Honor student/Study student, straight As

You never know who might show up...

Ash from the Evil dead, PLEASE!!

I probably shouldn't, I'm not a big anime fan, but it is an interesting premise... And if nothing else I do enjoy rolling.

4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 2, 5) = 15=13
4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 4, 5) = 15=12
4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 4, 4) = 15=13
4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 2, 6) = 14=12
4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 4, 1) = 10=9
4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 2, 4) = 16=14

14, 13, 13, 12, 12, 9. Mostly above average with one below, but nothing stellar. Maybe a stoner hippie type, generally solid but low Wisdom? I'll mull things over.

We got two solid prospects so far, a guest apperance from Ash, and two possible hotties, we have a good start and just need more!!!

4d6 - 1 ⇒ (6, 4, 1, 5) - 1 = 15
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (5, 4, 1, 4) - 1 = 13

4d6 - 1 ⇒ (2, 5, 5, 1) - 1 = 12
4d6 - 2 ⇒ (2, 3, 6, 4) - 2 = 13

Str 15
Dex 15
Con 12
Int 13
Wis 12
Cha 16

Charismatic character

Wow that is average. Mean Pretty gurl checking in, daddy spoils me with his money. The only way he knew how to raise me. He is onto the fifth step-mom, they just keep slipping down the stairs.

more:
She runs two rings of girls at the high school. The other mean girls who are juniors and seniors are her minions as the sohpmore and freshman wannabes are her play things. She easily manipulates the other girls and runs then as good as any college sorority.

Emotional advantage: apathy.
Physical advantage: a few years in gymnastics until her boobs filled out, self defense classes, cane training which she uses on underlings out of sight of the cameras.
Emotional disadvantage: always been served, truly no friends
Physical disadvantage: D cup breast size

Alliance: Family - Mr. Money Bags Co. Bank
Alliance: Burner B*#%+es, local female gang gets her failures and she gets extra cash
Alliance: minions mean pretty gurls

Sorry to say that sums her up. Any interactions from the other players, that is prior to ZPOC.? Any switching of stats to increase one and decrease another?

Dot

Loup, think of it as a chance to increase your role playing repretoire. Also the anime is just the premise. Later on due to some fun instances I plan on bringing in Pathfinder classes and magic.

Lizzy, yes you may increase one ability score by 1 and decrease another by 1. Only once.

That's fair enough. And I do love a good zombie game with a twist to it. The idea of a bunch of high schoolers dealing with an undead outbreak is one I've rolled around since, well, high school. I'll try and get a concept to come together. The exchange student to Japan is throwing me a little, but maybe I'll embrace it and make a major Japanophile? Or a stereotypically super-American kid. I'll figure it out.

4d6 - 3 ⇒ (6, 5, 3, 5) - 3 = 16
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (1, 5, 3, 4) - 1 = 12
4d6 - 3 ⇒ (5, 3, 4, 3) - 3 = 12
4d6 - 3 ⇒ (4, 6, 3, 4) - 3 = 14
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (5, 6, 1, 1) - 1 = 12
4d6 - 2 ⇒ (4, 5, 2, 4) - 2 = 13

GM Wolf wrote:

If you were going to do it I'd suggest: Kyoto Station, Hadano, or Nagoya.

You could also do something like Tokyo, but I tried to give some options with more interesting terrain, 'easy' to leave the city area, and near both mountains rivers and lakes while still being pretty heavily populated.

Any idea how long recruitment will run? I'm waiting till sunday at this point to make a character but could make one sooner if needed.

Recruitment will run until at least Monday, though first come first serve. When I have four fully fledged applicants I will not be accepting any new dots. Then you all have a day or two to get the polish out and finish.

Unless someone has a better suggestion I am going with Kyoto Municipal Horikawa Senior High School or Kyōtotachibana High School both in/near Kyoto Station.

Do we have to select student as our profession or would something like Athlete be allowed

Hmmmm.... Interesting!

4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 2, 5) = 13 12
4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 3, 2) = 10 9
4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 2, 4) = 18 16
4d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 6, 6) = 17 16
4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 1, 6) = 16 15
4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 6, 6) = 18 16

Stats are nice.

Ive never played d20 modern before. Is there a resource i can view online?
[edit] Found it.
Rolling Wealth now.
2d4 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3+!

I'm thinking of playing a female track and field star. One of those girls who drives other crazy cause she's good at sports and good grades, but is not very social at all. Perhaps a little cold/ice queen.

Okay since I don't have much to work with, this is what I could build using the SRD site. I'd appreciate some feedback and help fleshing her out and stuff.

ElbowtotheFace wrote:

You may have two professions: student and another choice.

Rungok/Kimaru, looking pretty good for a start. You will need to distribute your skill points to your class skills. You may put ranks into other skills but they are not as effective.

Yes, everyone starts with one feat besides those given by other sources.

Also folks remember with picking family as one of your alliances you get 3 items that are 18 wealth level your wealth level +20 or less. Two of them must be at home though.

Everyone think about how much you know of the others, who are your friends, enemies?
What is your goal in life at the moment?
Also if you had to use one word how would you descibe the other characters and/or how you relate to them. This is more for role playing and interactions for yourself.
Max thinks Kimarue is mean and he is jealous of how easy it is for her to be an athlete.
Max thinks Lizzy is stern and he has a crush on her.
Max thinks Electra is stuck up and shy, he has nightmares of bashing in her brains and then eating them. He would like to beat her smug face.
Max has problems but I hope that helps. Max is already turning!!! ;)

What wealthlevel do you give Cellphones and Laptops.
I mean they are very common nowadays?

Helikon wrote:
Do you waver Age restrictions for professions?

I can make exceptions, but you got to make it believable.

Both cell phones and laptops are DC 10.

You can take a 20 on your wealth check, so the three big items are limited to 20 + 2d4+1 for student+your other occupation bonus+any other bonuses.

Wealth: 2d4 + 1 + 6 ⇒ (2, 1) + 1 + 6 = 10 +20= 30

Like duh... sorry everything is beneath me... no that lexus is not impressing me. I want a thourogh bred horse for the track. Do you hate me yet?

Checking in

Electra that was quick!

Now you got some homework, make a contact of the Whizzkids that you would prefer to survive. Nothing fancy: name, gender, stereotype: nerd, focus: you and ..., anything else I need to know?

I will check back on your crunch later.

I was wrong you start with two feats.

I strongly suggest to look at my alias info. It has a bunch of great info.
I want a vital line with the good stuff and then since all skills wont fit use the basic ones you think you will use the most. Feel free to check out my other aliases for what I am talking about. Once one of you got it, I want the others to mimic it so I dont have to keep looking for stats.

Panic has the bare bones but hasnt posted recently.
Helikon has passed most others in this race... if not all.
Elbowtotheface has the rolls but nothing else.
I am bored and my lappy just wont work right now, so commentary about my prospective players.
Lizzy is struting her stuff but missing the crunch.
Max is a goner for sure!
Rungok the newest entry has a firm grasp but just cant make it... skills, check out Electraz skills for a reference. I know she did not denote which have ranks, i am sure she will fix it. Rungok thx for letting me know which skills came from where.

Hey GM Wolf!

I took your advice, and polished up Maki here. Please take a look and tell me if everything's okay now! :D

Alright, I'm working with something. He's an exchange student/foreigner/whatever you want to call it, here mainly to study kendo and some other martial arts. Bit of an outcast cause he's a bit different, has trouble fitting in (low Charisma). I took the Squire Occupation to represent his training.

Wealth: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (4, 2) + 2 = 8
2nd Level Check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 Haha, okay. 8 to start it is.

Also, can I just get a longsword or something and call it a katana? I don't care about wielding it in one hand.

Also also, on a related note, how should I go about having training weapons? I'm thinking a bokken could just be like a club, maybe at 1d8 damage, but the shinai would probably be nonlethal damage. A big sap, maybe? Also at 1d8? Your call, GM.

Wealth = 11 (5 from rolls, 2 from occupation, 1 from Profession skill, 3 from windfall feat)
Tool kit -1
M1911 -2
Loss of wealth from dirt bike purchase
1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Ouch...

That will drop wealth to 1
Level 2 wealth check
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Bringing wealth to 3 total
(For a bike I may not be able to get back to once s@&* hits the fan)
Full Character should be ready in a bit

Character Sheet
http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheet.html#id=1078157

Backstory:

Six months after his father’s death, while still in the anger stage of grief, Devin Cerrone found himself in a strange land beset by strangers. His mother moved Devin to Japan when she took a director position at a Bio-Tech firm. As a military child he was used to moving around, Washington to Germany to DC to Colorado, but this was different. This time there he wasn’t surrounded by others who knew what it was like, who spoke his native language, and who shared a common culture with him. Devin was never angry at Japan or the Japanese people but he was angry. He and his father had been close and shared and adventurous spirit, they took many trips together, big game hunting, mountain climbing, and baseball games, just to name a few.

Devin’s preferred method of lashing out and rebellion was performing extreme (and often stupid) stunts, he would find tall buildings and post videos of him walking along the edge and occasionally repelling down the side. His mother would frequently ask him if he was trying to kill her. She was as devoted a mother as one could be trying to juggle raising a son by herself and a high pressure job, but it provided them a better life, or so she hoped. The move and the job offered Devin to attend a prestigious private school. Devin liked the school just fine when he was there and not sneaking off to do something stupid and dangerous. Devin would often miss school to travel and do things with the men his father served with and their families.

About nine months of living in Japan Devin was beginning to settle in. He had joined a baseball team and was finding more common ground with those around him. In addition to school he found a part-time job assisting a mechanic, he mostly took the job so he could fix a dirt bike he bought for cheap but turned out to cost a great deal to fix. There were a few other American kids at the school that he would pal around with at times, but his tendency to pull stunts and get in trouble, despite positive strides, often left him on the outside looking in. Most students and facility knew who he was but not many knew him very well. Except Mino Fujimiya, Devin’s on-again-off-again love interest, a grade behind and from an uptight background, Devin’s Devil-may-care attitude made her heart race and head spin. Mino falling in with Lizzy's underlings has put strain on the relationship.

Allegiances:

Family-Mother
Nation- USA and Japan
Mino... most of the time.

Other Students:

Electra - A bit stuffy and too smart for her own good, Devin knows what its like to be away from your home land and since he speaks German will often speak to her in her native language, even though she speaks English better than he does.
Lizzy - Vapid and Shallow, she is actively avoided by Devin due to issues involving an on again off again relationship with one of her minions.
Maki - Knowing the sting of the loss of a parent, Devin is sympathetic to Maki but keeps a distance due to her relation to Law Enforcement.
Loup -

Wealth: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (2, 3) + 2 = 7

Dark Archive

Before the morning bell, a platinum blonde sits under a tree in the school yard. Her lips are painted dark red and thick black eyeliner frames her eyes. She's sitting cross-legged and appears to be reading Country Gardens while sipping something out of a thermos. Beside her, there's a longbow (perhaps for Archery Club) leaning against the tree. She's wearing the school uniform, but she appears to be new at school. You don't recognize her but she may look familiar from a local convenience store or perhaps the train.

If you approach her within 5 feet, she looks up and frowns. The smell of coffee wafts out of the thermos, mixing with the morning air. "Vhat?" she lifts an eyebrow, expecting a question. If you stay at least 10 feet away, she doesn't look up and ignores you.

Let me know if I need to add or change anything. The campaign setting is an interesting concept. I'd like to see the gameplay in action.

How Quinn reacts to the other students:
Quinn’s initial impression from Lizzy (BloodWolven) is that they wouldn’t get along.

Quinn thinks Electra (Helikon) is someone she could get coffee with.

Quinn respects Maki (rungok) but wouldn’t go out of her way to make friends.

Quinn doesn’t know enough about Loup Blanc’s character to have an opinion.

Quinn thinks Devin (Elbowtotheface) takes a lot more risks than she does.

Electra´s thoughts on her shoolmate´s:

If asked about Lizzy, Electra replies that Lizzy is to be pittied. She thinks that money and good looks will carry you on. Money can be lost and good looks only work when young. Also she has no true class.
If asked about Maki, Electra replies that Maki sometimes needs some common sense. But on the other side was always fair. She should spend more time on her grades though. Also Electra feels a little kinship with her, as booth their mothers are dead
If asked about Devin Electra replies that Devin should work harder on her marks, but he is nice and polite. And tries to speak german. But a shoulder to hide behind when at school.
If asked about QuinnElectra replies that Quinn should work harder on her marks, but that she understands how it feels having just one parent.

@GM Wolf - thanks for the opportunity but I am backing out.

Have fun everyone

If you dont provide a picture then you need to provide a description, and the avatar picture does not count, you sure can use it as areference though.

Quinn, rungok/Maki, Loup, Devin/Elbowtothe face, you all have made it into tier 1 of recruitment. Make sure to make aliases if you have not already done so. Keep filling out your characters with what I have asked. If you think you are done check out each others' character sheets to see if you have missed anything.

There are two more tiers of recruitment. 2 requires something from my alias' description, you need to put vital info and skills you use in two lines.

Tier 3 means you are completely ready.

Deadline - Monday 9pm pacific standard time. I hope to start then!!! I am very excited!
