Vordrek |
I will take the weapon enhancements. Interestingly, they do apply to ray spells-- although such spells would only get the +1 flaming.
Chanting again, still targeting the bugbear, Vordrek fires a fiery missile. Under Rolando's magical enhancement, however, the missile gains a smaller, secondary flame that spins around it as the spell rockets toward the creature.
Scorching ray: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 4 + 1 = 15
Damage: 4d6 + 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1, 4, 5, 4) + (4) + 1 = 19
Eladrian |
Cursing selling his sword for the new and advanced earthbreaker he has, Eladrian tries another swing at the bugbear.
Attack: 1d20 + 10 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 10 + 2 + 1 = 32
Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 5 + 2 + 1 = 24
Damage: 2d6 + 5 + 2 + 2d6 ⇒ (5, 1) + 5 + 2 + (2, 3) = 18
Damage: 2d6 + 5 + 2 + 2d6 ⇒ (4, 3) + 5 + 2 + (4, 4) = 22
GM Zinou |
Eladrian: I just noticed you used the studied target from the beginning as if it were a free action: you have to spend a move action the first time you use it, thus you can't make a full attack. I consider you can't do the second attack, unless I'm mistaken.
Between Torean and Rolando, the group learns everything there is to know about the Zombie Bugbears. They indeed have a resistance to damage other than slashing and have the undead traits.
Rolando, singing, includes in his song what he knows about these creatures but is interrupted in his explanation by a loud "SPRÖÖÖÖÖÖTCH!" made by Gunnar's huge earthbreaker nailing the undead creature to the ground, providing a new carpet to Eladrian.
The party hears arcane words chanted int the air and sees a fiery comet coming down towards the minotaur and burns it a little. The zombeast lets out a howl of pain but stands his ground.
Still up: Rolando
Eladrian, I'll let you retake your action but you can keep your first roll, study the minotaur and 5' step towards it and hit it.
MZ: 19
Eladrian |
Sorry about that.. I have been playing Marnarius in Serpents Rise.. he is lvl 7 and can study as an immediate action. Since I haven't actually moved, only taking 5ft steps, it works.. for Marnarius! One more level to go before Eladrian can do that. Your suggestion works fine for me. Thank you for pointing that out! I have moved Eladrian 5' closer to the Minotaur.
Rolando Pascal |
Rolando smiles at the efficacy of the spiritual aid, ripping his own flaming sword from his scabbard and advancing to slash at the minotaur.
Free: Switch flag to buckler hand
I can't move my token now, but I want to go E, NE in between Eladrian and Torean, drawing my sword as I move. I'm hoping this path gives me soft cover vs the minotaur's AoO, effective AC of 25. Am I right?
Attack with sword, flag bonus, magic: 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 5 + 1 + 1 = 16
slashing plus flaming damage: 1d8 + 3 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 1 + (5) = 14
She Who Waits |
Sorry, had an optometrist appointment and couldn't really see for the past few hours.
The witch nods and says, "I see what you mean. Eladrian, I like your style! It'll be more fun this way!"
She glares at the minotaur, cursing this one with misfortune as well. Seeing the hex hit it, she continues to laugh to herself, keeping the effect happening.
Misfortune on the minotaur zombie. DC 20 negates.
GM Zinou |
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
The minotaur shakes the witch's exe off, steps back and tries to hit Eladrian but misses widely.
MZ vs Eladrian: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12 Oww come on!

ZOOOOOMBIE!
Gunnar Graubart |
Gunnar a bit frustrate that he can't get at the Minotaur looks to immobilze his foe that his allies can better swarm it.
Gunnar casts Ice Silck DC15. If studied target increases spells DCs then the saving throw is at +2. As there is no definte RAW on this it's sort of up to you as the DM to decide how to handel it.
Vordrek |
Vordrek lowers himself until he's within closer range, then spreads out his hand again and casts another spell. Fire blazes forth from his outstretched fingertips.
Using a move action to drop 20 ft; am now only 20 ft up.
Burning hands (DC 15 Reflex half): 5d4 + 1 ⇒ (3, 3, 2, 4, 2) + 1 = 15
Eladrian |
Eladrian dodges the minotaur and then takes the fight to him, stepping forward and swinging hard. His first swing is a solid hit, but the second misses.
Attack: 1d20 + 10 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 10 + 2 + 1 = 27
Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 5 + 2 + 1 = 10
Damage: 2d6 + 5 + 2 + 2d6 ⇒ (3, 4) + 5 + 2 + (2, 2) = 18
She Who Waits |
Glowering slightly as the minotaur refuses the natural order of things, She Who Waits beings to speak, her words bristling with the electricity of arcane power. Seeing her spell now rightfully inflict the minotaur with the ill luck inherent in the world, she cackles softly.
Casting ill omen. No saving throwing; the zombie minotaur will have to roll twice and take the lower on its next two rolls. Move action to cackel to keep up any current misfortune hexes [bugbear zombie]
Rolando Pascal |
Rolando's song volume rises with the intensity of the battle--he follows Eladrian into the hallway and swings his flaming sword at the undead monstrosity.
Move: Provokes AoO
Standard: Attack with sword, flag bonus, magic: 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 5 + 1 + 1 = 16
Slashing plus flaming damage: 1d8 + 3 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 1 + (6) = 14
Weird--looks like I'm consistent!
Torean Spellbane |
Torean slices at the minotaur zombie again with his axe, on fire from Roladno's singing. "Come on, you dead cow!"
Attack (Flag, Song): 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 9 + 1 = 21
Damage (Flag, Song): 1d8 + 7 + 1 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 7 + 1 + 1 + (5) = 20
GM Zinou |
@Gunnar: the wording says "The DCs of slayer class abilities against that opponent increase by 1." In the case of your archetype, I'd say you replace "Slayer" by "Druid". But I don't think spells count as "Class ability", and as Slayer don't have spells, I'll say that the DC doesn't increase from this source. On another note, I noticed there's nowhere on your sheet that says what level has Gunnar. I guess he's level 6.
@She Who Waits: The bugbear was transformed last round into a beautiful yet bloody carpet and joined the paradise of bugbears-zombies-carpets (quite a restricted condition, if you ask me).
Ref save vs Ice Slick: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Ref save vs Ice Slick: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17

Ref save vs Burning Hands: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
The witch casts a spell that curses the beast while Gunnar casts a spell that conjures cold under the cow's "feet". The minotaur falls prone and takes some minor ice damage. He then takes a fire burst in his face and can't escape the flames. Eladrian follows the minotaur and slices deep in the beast's hide and it dies in molten ice and undead blood. Rolando and Torean arrive to only grin at the pile of cadavers.
Combat over!
The chaos still agitates the opera and people are still fleeing, wisely avoiding your group.
Time to explore a little bit! Where to?
She Who Waits |
"Perhaps," the witch says with almost a purr as she lazily adjusts her new noble's clothing, "it would be best if we looked at where they came from. Perhaps that hallway? Yes, Torean, do you not agree?"
Vordrek |
The threat abated, Vordrek lowers himself to the ground. "Anyone injured?" he asks his allies, hoping they hear him over the calumny of the operahouse.
Torean Spellbane |
"Just a bruise." The dwarf takes out a healing wand and uses it on himself. "The Witch is right. We need to figure out where these things are coming from." He pushes pash the doors to looks around at the next area. Torean tries to see if the zombies are coming from a general direction.

She Who Waits |
She Who Waits follows after Toeran and Gunnar, idly sizing her allies up.
"I do not normally see elves carrying the weapons of my quah. Who trained you in the earthbreaker?" she says as she looks over the large hammer Eladrian was wielding. "It is certainly well-crafted."
Eladrian |
Eladrian cleans the gunk off of his earth breaker and looks over at She who Waits as she asks her question. "I picked this up while I was exploring an ancient Spire. There were hordes of undead on one of the floors, and one of our number had something similar. I asked him to teach me in between exploration forays. It really does help when something REALLY needs to go die!" he finishes with a smirk.
Looking around, he continues. "A agree, it should not be hard to trace the path of destruction these beasts left, lets follow it to where they started."
Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14
Survival: Track Minotaur: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
GM Zinou |
Torean and Eladrian track with no problem the minotaur that obviously came from the outside of the theater.
Looking about, you see that in those few precious seconds the theater nearly emptied itself. Bodies litter the ground. The bodies here look like they were hastily looted. There are some valuables, easy to scoop up, but no magic. You each look to the other to confirm that you're unharmed, but that's when a new series of screams breaks the temporary calm. From nearby the screams a voice cries out, "For Father Grim, for Fel Bustrani, consume them and multiply!"
You have no problem to identify the source of the voice, it comes from just down below you and a door slams open, letting out a flood of undead.
A man in bone armor with an equally wicked looking pick stands over a cowering group of theater-going nobles. He silently points you with a bony finger and the undead begin to stumble towards you.
Rolando: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Gunnar: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

CZ: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Quickly, the cleric looks deep into the eyes of Eladrian and mutters "Come to meet your death, my dearie! You shall be one of my minions! Come to be my PUPPET!"
Eladrian: make a save will DC 14
The Zyphus Question - Round 1 - Fight!
Rolando, She Who Waits, Torean, Vordrek, Eladrian, Gunnar
Bad guys
Gunnar Graubart |
Gunnar steps up and swings his powerful hammer in a wide arc looking to cut his way through this zombie mess.
Nice of them to line up so smoothly. Great Cleave will work without goblin cleaver here :)
Attack 1 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20 Damage 1d12 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Attack 2 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21 Damage 1d12 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Attack 3 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12 Damage 1d12 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Attack 4 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28 Damage 1d12 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Rolando Pascal |
Whoops, I couldn't post until now. Gunnar, do you mind letting me go first? I technically had the highest initiative, and I'm just going to sing again and add more damage to your weapons. If DM Zinou is cool with it, maybe you can retroactively add it?
Not much time passes after the song dies down, and Rolando's smile fades as more horrors shamble towards them.
Arise once more to help us! he implores, singing his dirge again.
Start up song once again with same bonuses as last time, then step back 5 ft. Note--if the necromancer is living, each person who is next to him at any point in their turn can attack him with my spirit totem. Attack bonus is 3 + your BAB, damage is 1d4 + 3, and it is negative energy damage.
Frost and flaming to all magic weapons, otherwise flaming and +1. Superstition and Spirit Totem (Lesser) in effect as well. And of course, Flagbearer (+1 morale to attack and damage). Still up: Moment of Greatness. Phew
Eladrian |
Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
+2 vs enchantment if applicable, If the Flagbearer or the moment of greatness can help, I will take it.
Edit: Whew.. no worries..[/oooc]
Bluff: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Eladrian manages to shake off the effects of the spell, but thinks quickly and decides to play along. Letting his eyes glaze and his muscles go slack, he drags his earth breaker forward with him.
[ooc]If the undead in front of Eladrian are diced and sliced by Gunnar's attacks, he will move forward 30 ft. If not, he will stop where he is.
Torean Spellbane |
Torean turns the corner and, bolstered by Rolando's song again, he swings the suddenly flaming axe again at a zombie.
Attack (Flag, Song): 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 9 + 1 = 18
Damage (Flag, Song): 1d8 + 7 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 7 + 1 + (3) = 17
Vordrek |
Need a GM ruling. How would spiritual weapon interact with Rolando's weapon enhancements (if at all)? I know that generally, spells that require an attack roll are considered weapons, and the spell even describes itself as a magic weapon (with an enhancement bonus and everything). However, it also says "It strikes as a spell, not as a weapon..." Would it get frost and flaming, or +1 flaming, or none?
Gunnar Graubart |
Of course Gunnar wouldn't mind Rolando going first. GM can you apply those damage bonuses to my first 2 attack rolls...I already applied the Flag Bonus? Pretty sure the third will be a miss anyhow...
GM Zinou |
Vordrek: I'd say that the song doesn't apply to the spiritual weapon because I assume that the skald's performance targets the weapons wielded.
Enhance Weapons (Su): At 1st level, the spell warrior can grant a +1 enhancement bonus to the weapons (including ammunition) of allies within 60 feet. At 5th level and every 5 levels thereafter, this enhancement bonus increases by 1. The maximum bonus gained is based upon the number of weapons affected: +5 to one weapon, +4 to two weapons, +3 to three weapons, or +2 to four or more weapons. Fifty pieces of ammunition count as one weapon for this purpose. The wielder of a weapon enhanced by this raging song counts as if he were under the effect of an inspired rage raging song for all purposes involving the skald's rage powers.
For the retcon, I'm ok, since the zombies stand little chance to "live" for more than one or two rounds.
Rolando sings once again to boost the party. The giant Gunnar strikes hard the zombies and hits them all. Torean comes to help and they kill all of them. Suddenly, a bugbear zombie stands from the pile of corpse beside the cleric. Sorry, I forgot to add it before.
Still up: She Who Waits and Vordrek
She Who Waits |
Hearing the sounds of battle, the witch starts and scrambles after her teammates.
"Please, plese" she says with a sigh, "why must they always be mindles? Less creatures, of course, and terribly unaffected by my most powerful abilities. I shall just handle you."
She then starts to cackle madly, losing interest in anything but the cleric.
She Who Waits will target the cleric with her evil eye hex, targetting Will saves for a -2 penalty. DC 20 Will save reduces the duration to one round.
Using one of her twice-per-day uses of her cackling hag's blouse, She Who Waits will cackle as a swift action, increasing the evil eye hex duration by one round.
Vordrek |
Quickly, Vordrek rises into the air again to remove himself from the zombies' reach. Seeing his ally magically lower the enemy caster's defenses, Vordrek chants and reaches out a hand, clenching it into a fist.
Vordrek will take advantage of that reduction on saves and target the necromancer with a hold person. DC 17 Will negates. Also will spend a move action to rise 20 feet.
GM Zinou |
Will save 1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Will save 2: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Vordrek: can you see trough walls? You have to get in the room. I put you in.
The cleric laughs. "Ya lot won't get me with ya riddiculous magics!" She steps to the right and waves her unholy symbol in your direction.
"May ya find death's embrace!" and a burst of negative energy flows towards you.
Channel negative energy: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 1) = 9
Everyone: Will save DC 17 to halve the damage.
The bugbear stumbles forward and attacks Eladrian but fails miserably.

Torean Spellbane |
Will Save (superstition): 1d20 + 9 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 9 + 3 = 21
Torean charges at the necromancer, intent on giving the spellcaster no quarter. "Your foul magic cannot save you now!" Unfortunately the table blocks his swing. A large chuck is carved out of it.
Attack (Flag, Song): 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 9 + 1 = 11
Damage (Flag, Song): 1d8 + 7 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 1 + (3) = 12
She Who Waits |
Will Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Pausing her laughter for a moment, She Who Waits wrinkles her nose and she pouts, "That hurt! I don't like that."
She continues to laugh, staring down the cleric and calling forth all the malevolence in the world.
Targetting cleric with Misfortune hex. DC 20 Will negates. Please keep in mind that she's under the effect of Evil Eye still, and so take a -2 to this check.
Eladrian |
Well now. The bugbear appearing in front of me kinda messes up my plan for getting close to the main guy and delivering a serious smack..
GM, does the bugbear believe my act enough to be subject to sneak attack damage?
Eladrian |
Eh. What the hell.. hate to lose the good bluff and an extra 2d6, but the bugbear changes things up a bit.
Seeming to snap out of it as the bugbear makes its clumsy swipe, Eladrian brings his hammer to bear against this newest foe. He holds his swing, and decides where best to place it, and then slams it home.
Attack: 1d20 + 10 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 10 + 2 + 1 = 16 Studied target, Flag
Damage: 2d6 + 5 + 2 + 1 + 2d6 ⇒ (5, 6) + 5 + 2 + 1 + (1, 3) = 23 Studied target, Flag, Burn/cold
Vordrek |
Oh sorry, last I looked at the map I thought we were all still in the same room. In that case Vordrek will have used his move to get there, and will still be on the ground.

Rolando Pascal |
Will Save using Moment of Greatness: 1d20 + 4 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 3 + 3 = 18
Rolando remembers the courage of the heroes of old and fights through the pain. He advances, swinging his flaming sword at the bugbear zombie.
If the bugbear zombie is still (un)alive...
Free: Switch flag to buckler hand.
Move: Draw sword as I go
Standard: Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Damage, slashing and flaming: 1d8 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (7) + 4 + (5) = 16
GM Zinou--if the zombie was destroyed by Eladrian I will, instead of attacking, double move to move just to the left of the cleric and attack him with the spirit totem.
Spirit Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Negative Energy damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Torean, since the caster is (presumably) living, you get to make an extra attack against him on your turn using my lesser spirit totem. The attack bonus is 3 + your BAB and the damage is 1d4 + 3 negative energy damage. It does not benefit from flagbearer or anything, though.
Torean Spellbane |
Spirit Attack: 1d20 + 3 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 3 + 7 = 30
Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Crit?: 1d20 + 3 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 3 + 7 = 29
Extra Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Rolando's spirits howl and swarm around Torean, slamming into the necromancer.
Can they crit?
Gunnar Graubart |
Move and attack necromancer with cleave. So if I hit can I make the cleave attack against the Bugbear with my slam attack?
Gunnar steps forward and spins his mighty hammer at the Necromancer putting all he's got into the blow.
Attack PA 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18 Damage 2d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 + 13 ⇒ (5, 5) + (4) + (2) + 13 = 29
Rolando Pascal |
Well struck, Gunnar!
Rolando's song resonates with the humming of the massive hammer.
If your 18 to hit misses, go ahead and add Gallant Inspiration: 2d4 ⇒ (3, 4) = 7 to the attack roll.
