As I read it, the halt function of the command spell is the only one that takes effect immediately, as the rest say "on its turn" to start. I also took the liberty of taking a very literal reading of his readied action. Let me know if that is a no-go.
@Rhegalion: Taken from the PRD:
Readying an Action: You can ready a standard action, a move action, a swift action, or a free action. To do so, specify the action you will take and the conditions under which you will take it. Then, anytime before your next action, you may take the readied action in response to that condition. The action occurs just before the action that triggers it. If the triggered action is part of another character's activities, you interrupt the other character. Assuming he is still capable of doing so, he continues his actions once you complete your readied action. Your initiative result changes. For the rest of the encounter, your initiative result is the count on which you took the readied action, and you act immediately ahead of the character whose action triggered your readied action.
By my reading, because command is still a standard action to cast, Illyan's action interupts yours. I.E. making a single attack vs Anya and then your action goes off and he has to hold for 1 round. It's unlikely that the attack will kill her, but it will drop her into negatives and leave a wicked scar. Then again I figure he has sneak attack against her.. so lets see.
@Devinn: +1 point for an excellent use of a Star Wars reference!

I was hoping that "casting a spell" wouldn't trigger his stated readied action of "not one step." But I suppose it did. At least he can't attack her twice now.
Yeah that's a tough one there, and to me it looks like there were no "good" options with the butler on top of initiative and readied. At least there's a chance to save Anya if you guys can take out the sprites and get to her while beating on the halted butler next round!
So looks like Talyssa gets an action in just as Rhegalion Commands Illyan, then Sorkana gets to run her gambit, then Alastair, then nasty fire sprites, then Reginald closes the round eh?

1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Well even though Ifris and Devinn may be oil and water for a time there, at least it's known that he takes her seriously when there's serious business to be had!
Of course this means those two are going to get teamed up on all future assignments...

Things are slowly trickling along, so I thought I'd put out a little Ifris-backstory. This isn't her first naval incident, so some PTSD-flashbacks seemed appropriate.
Devinn LeMont |
Really solid flashback for Ifris there. I've got a couple rolling around in my head and would love to see more for the other characters!
Alastair doesn't have to wait for Talyssa correct? It's just Reginald that technically has to wait until after the fire sprites go?
Vorduvai |
Just a friendly request that if we can get Alastair and Talyssa to post for Round 38 before this weekend, perhaps that can give Clockwork time this weekend to post for the fire sprites and give Reginald time to finish out the combat round, so we can get into a new round next week.

Delivering some good news: I was officially tapped to do some work on an upcoming Paizo Adventure Path, The Mummy's Mask! It comes out next year, and while I can't talk too much about my involvement I figured I'd let you all know in case deadlines delay my posting here any. I'm pretty pumped! :)

Sorry for the holdup. Had a very busy week. I see Talyssa's hasn't quite been DMPCed yet (though you should feel free to do it in the future if I'm holding things up). Working up a post now.
And congrats Ifris - that is awesome!

Good Afternoon my friends,
I am writing you today with some rather unfortunate news. As some of you know I am in the military. Recently a system administrator found that despite me visiting Pazio on my “personal-use” time, due to what was considered “excessive bandwidth” on a “gaming site” I was given a direct order not to access the site from a unit computer. This unfortunately limits my options. I love pbp’s and I love the groups and adventures I interact with. In a way it is a form of escapism for me. However, a direct order is something I can’t scoff at. If I violate it, I would be endangering my advancement (hence a larger paycheck for me and my family). As such I need to take a leave of absence from the pbp forums until I can gain access to a personal computer. This will take some time. Due to the sensitive nature of what I do, I am not at liberty to say when I will post again, but I assure you all I am coming back and I would request that you remain patient with me in the interim. For some campaigns I have spent months and months playing with you all and I have no intention of quitting, but at this present time, I can’t interact with this website. That said, while I would be deeply sad should you wish to remove me from the campaigns, or leave the ones that I run, I would understand. This is a hard thing to swallow, but it cannot be avoided or circumvented.
I will return as strong as ever, perhaps more so because of a need to catch up. For what it’s worth I am sorry; this is out of my hands. I’ll check back when I can, as soon as I can and pop my head in so you all know I have not simply left.

Figured I'd throw this out there since you're all a fun lot! I've got a recruitment up for a new PbP I'll be running. Information to be found here.

I haven't heard anything yet from Celeador, but it's very possible the same thing that has taken him out from the Paizo forum has done the same for social media.
Given Celeador's circumstances, my idea sent to him last week was to offer to GM the adventure in a temporary way until he gets back. It means I'd download the first AP module and force Devinn into DMPC mode - I'd have to keep things pretty close to script, as I wouldn't want to know any of the special side elements Celeador may have planned for the various characters and their storylines.
While I've DM'd a long time now, I've never GM'd a PbP game before, so I couldn't say that I'd have it all worked out, including running maps in a virtual environment. That being said, I'd be willing to put myself out there for the group if that keeps things moving along in the interim...with Celeador's agreement of course. Certainly if any of the players think that's not a good idea it's no hard feelings from my end, and we can just hold on until Celeador eventually gets back to us, but I like what we have here so far to keep some momentum going.

So guys, two items: First off I have a map for this combat we are going to start using. When I make my next post, I will post where everyone is at. I am going to write a long post and get it set up so it will take a bit of time. The second item deals with my leave away from the game. I want to front load you guys. In a few months, I am going to have to do the same thing again. The question is not so much of getting a laptop (although thank you Lucent for the *very* kind offer of a Google Laptop! I really mean that). The problem is that I am in the Coast Guard and when I go on patrols I don't have access to a non government approved computer. The bright side is that after this next patrol is over, I am done with this unit and will be going back to land permanently. Due to that, I need to know if you want someone to take over the game while I am gone so we can keep it rolling. I would then take back over when I got back. Thoughts?
Talyssa Dane |
I'd say it depends on how long you'd be gone although that may not be something you can share. I'd say if its less than a month, let's just put it on hold. If its going to be longer, we can have someone take it over.
Cromlich |
I know I'm not technically "in game" yet but I would say if you'll be back on land soon to just play, then wait for you while you're out, and then play again. That way we don't have someone take over and they have intimate knowledge of the campaign once they retain character status. Seems like the ultimate spoiler to me.
Devinn LeMont |
Well I will put myself out there to act as an understudy GM if it comes down to it for the next hiatus. That being said, it seems for this past month that all the players were good with holding fast and not having it affect momentum or interest, so perhaps not necessary. Part of that might be if the next interim period allows for some player-driven back-and-forth posts organically, something that is harder to pull off in the throes of a combat session.
