I hope you don't mind adding the +1 from the Elven Lore ability.
Not at all, it makes perfect sense in your situation and I expect that you will actually find that bonus quite handy later on. Currently the R.N.S. Coaltongue is secured to all traffic until the King arrives and the christing ceremony starts. That said it will be easy for you to find the ships purser to arrange quarters for the Duchess as soon as everyone is allowed to board. You would know that the ship will be transiting for a few hours to a scenic location before the king provides a speech at sunset and then it will return. This would allow the Duchess, her handmaiden and entourage to take a nap and prepare before the evenings speech.

Nice post Devinn! I was expecting you to break character for a moment and launch into Millerite theory. On the bright side, the good Captain happens to be a recurring character so I look forward to some philosophical discussions sprinkled into the campaign. I'll give this small roleplay event a bit of time to develop, and then I'll move us along to the Kings Arrival on Monday. But if all of you want to play around with these NPC's a bit I am open to extending the conversations.

I'm back! I apologize for my absence. This game looks great and has great players. I hope Anya makes it back soon.
My goal from my last post is for the RWs to have a pre-coded set of behaviors in certain situations. Frex, if one of us is giving ourselves up as a hostage, a few words and a certain order of activity for rescue would help, and enhance our ability to work together.
In this case, if we must protect a VIP, and don't know enough to trust or not trust those around them, I say we briefly isolate the individual, which tells us how far away from the principle they are willing to go. Their behavior might allow us re-checks for Sense Motive or might give someone else insight. And of course, a second person should fill the vacuum, so frex, someone asks the Duchess about her handmaiden ("will she need a separate room?" "Does she sample your refreshments before you imbibe?").
Does that make sense?

Sorry guys, my wife was in a bad mood tonight so I cooked dinner for her and spent some time trying to cheer her up. I am also going through an aviation recertification at the moment so I have been very busy. Thanks for your patience. I hate that I am holding up the game. I'll work on the post asap.

Just a general heads-up, for the month of August I won't have much weekend posting time. I'm in crunch-time on a Pathfinder project that needs to be done at month end and packing/preparing to move at the beginning of Sept (provided the apartment is ready and it doesn't get pushed back again x_x).
Just wanted to give everyone a heads-up on that! :)

Filby will observe guests for their behavior and try to sniff out anything unusual.
A parting comment would help me know how I stand with the duchess before she wanders offs.
I read the comment since Filby speaks elven. Does her story match up with the Duchess' attitude? That is what the Sense Motive roll was for.
The Clockwork Shadow
@Filby: Oh yes, the story is 100% true. The Duchess saved Sorkana during the 3rd Yerasol war when she was held as a slave wife to a rich Danoran. Unfortunately with the death of so many High Elf women such events are more rather than less common. Because of this, its not uncommon for High Elf women to disguise themselves as wood elves. It attacks far less attention and provides for a measure of personal safety. When I write up my next post and Anya escorts the Duchess to her quarters I'll have her make a comment to you for you to gauge her attitude.
@Everyone: So just to be clear, Filby want to remain on deck and interact with the other guests while Ifris and Talyssa take a tour of the ship / scout for threats. What does everyone else want to do. By the way, Devinn Governor Stanfield will be on on the main deck during the cruise and you will have the chance to interact with him if you so wish.
Also at this time I will give you guys a link to the map for the R.N.S. Coaltongue
@Lucent: I tried to take a page from your book and create something pretty cool. It's not up to your standard but I used what was from the book and modified it with a grid and a few other things. When I make descriptive posts for the tour I will reference some things and provide their locations on the grid so you have a better idea of what I am talking about. I really need to add a whole bunch of guest pictures, but you get the idea.

Everyone is updated. I'll get up a post that will provide a layout of the Coaltongue as well as giving some NPC interaction for the people on the maindeck. There is a lot of moving parts as you could expect from a ship like this. I might have to do it tonight as I have my father visiting me and my wife over the weekend and I need to clean up the house.
On the plus side, in a week or so, my time will be opening up dramatically and I will be able to spend a lot more time working on posts and the like.
The Clockwork Shadow
Made some good progress on the post tonight. Its saved on my word file. There's quite a few moving parts on the ship as well as a *ton* of important NPC's that will have long lasting impacts on the campaign. The fact that the designed put them in from the very start is something I really liked about the Zeitgeist AP. It really gives the players the sense that they are more than just "adventures" that their job as constables for the R.H.C. are important and even as first level characters they have impact on the world around them.
As I said before I have family visit so I am grabbing minutes where I can to write this post. I'll get it up as soon as I can. Really looking forward to this.

Looking forward to it as well! I'm trying to get into a greater posting frequency for a bit here, so that some PC interactions can develop organically when there's opportunity. To me it's interesting to see how the characters gel with other members of the team when we're somewhat divided up as we have been.
Got a couple of flashbacks in mind that feature Ifris and Talyssa individually with Devinn when they were in their training courses at the R.H.C. HQ that would be fun to do, but only when it makes sense to roll them out of course.
Devinn LeMont
It's looking good Clockwork! I think the characters just need to take advantage of the scene a bit with each other in addition to the NPC interactions.
@Clockwork - Awww you made Anya nice and sympathetic after Devinn's snarky commentary with her, so now I feel bad! She definitely seems like the tragic sort that is really at a crossroads at this moment in her story.
@Steven Helt - So Steven no pressure if you're jammed, but if so I can always move Devinn over to the Rhegalion/Governor conversation - let me know and I'll 'formulate' my next post accordingly!

Quite a meaty post to dig into there Clockwork! A warning that this is GenCon week for me. I'm going to do my best to get a post up tonight or tomorrow before I go, but I will definitely be out of touch while I'm there. I am GMing all but two slots and those two I'm playing. Back up for air on Monday.
F. Castor
I will be out of town for the next week or so for some much much needed vacation, so internet access will be a bit sketchy. I will not be able to post at all during this weekend, but I should have some access to a computer from Monday onward. Please feel free to DMPC Alastair if necessary.
Ifris Lanvaldan
Just a heads up guys, I'm finally moving into my new apartment over the next few days and will be painting the rooms and doing a little bit of touch-up work on the place. After tonight my posting availability will be a little sparse until I get settled in, probably Monday or Tuesday.
If anyone needs to GMPC me feel free. I'll be trying to keep up but I might lag behind a little!

As an aside, the Coaltongue was actually named after a powerful warlord from ancient history...
That's even better! It calls up a distinct connotation from one class and a different connotation from another.
I figured the Dockers have that irreverence to take existing expressions and turn them upside-down or use them to their own purposes, have different twists on history and common stories, etc. Particularly in Flint where the size of the city and the massive changes have produced new 'slang' and such for the commoners. Over time I'm looking to come up with a repository of Docker street jargon and turns-of-phrase that sound good but aren't exactly the same as Earth-speak.

Good Evening Wolves,
We are about to start a countdown event. Countdown events are events that may or may not include combat, skill checks or roleplay. What is important about a countdown event is that it takes place on a set deadline. Something important is going to happen and it’s up to the player to either prevent it from happening or making sure that it does happen. Examples might include protecting a carriage long enough for it to make it to a embassy, while it is under attack. Another example is a carriage that is about to slide over a cliff with a person trapped inside. Rather than us starting at Round 1, countdown events will start at a preset round and work their way down. When you guys arrive at the duchess’s door to her stateroom the band on deck will begin to play the Royal Risur Anthem. The song is approximately three minutes long. In game time that means you have 30 rounds before the song finishes and the King will begin his speech. This is a slightly different take on the way things work. I’ll front load you that combat will also be happening with this Countdown event. Don’t worry, just like skill challenges this is a new concept, but I know we will get through it. Let me know if you have any questions.

Woo! Exciting! This is the kind of stuff I look forwarded to seeing when I come back from a long weekend of moving things!
Expect a post shortly~

Good luck to the four of you down below! Can't wait to see some Perception and Sense Motive checks -- I'm holding firm on my honor and haven't looked at any of those spoilers. Who's going to get things rolling at the Door of the Duchess, hmm?
