Here's some basic background for Evril. :)
For years, Evril aged slowly as the priest grew more and more feeble and unable to take care of the boy. Sensing much turmoil in him, the priest sent the boy to the Temple of Sarenrae in Canorate where he would be educated and trained in the priesthood. This was a true turning point in Evril's life as he saw the only father figure he had known push him off on someone else. By the time he reached the temple, his anger and frustration had nearly consumed him.
It was here, during a turbulent time that he met another young outcast who he would later forge a bond of friendship. The scarred boy, who would take the name Deimos, and Evril began as rivals. Their rivalry escalated until finally, in sword practice, Evril left a slash in Deimos' face. After an exchange of harsh words and an exclamation about each other's parentage, heir interaction became more friendly as off each had burned their anger out on the other.
For several years they trained together until Deimos left for other places and duties he felt called to. Shortly after, in the middle of temple services, Evril felt a warmth fill him and he passed out. When he awoke, he knew that he had been touched by Sarenrae to serve and carry her redeeming light to places of darkness. Taking on that mission, Evril himself left, journeying far and wide in her name. While it was one journey after another, another turning point came in time. Evril came upon Deimos being accosted by Hellknight minions and strode into battle to fight alongside his friend. After helping Deimos with his Hellknight issues, Evril found himself wandering once again.
Returning to the area of his birth for the first time in years, Evril hopes that the visit won't be as dark as his recent encounters.

Nope, you're right on the money. More a Marvel Team-up vibe than a Power Man and Ironfist one
WONDERTWIN POWERS, ACTIVATE.
Gm, I'll give you a hint of how worried the arbitor is...my starting contract is in the 2500-5000 gp range, and thats just for recon (of course to collect I have to make it back alive).
Also im exchanging my Omnious Khopesh for a spellstoring khopesh, stored spell is frigid touch.
note to gm the contract can be redeemed in two ways one in raw cash and two it can be redeemed in the form of favors like the arbitor dismisses any criminal charges against me out of hand or I can use it as a stepping stone for purchasing nobility (something has to fund the monarchy).
That's all fine if that's what you want to go with, but you may find yourself somewhat disappointed. :P
Here's some basic background for Evril. :)
** spoiler omitted **...
I like it, but I am unsure of something: If the vampire wanted to use her for birthing a child, why was she in Skelt when she delivered? Did he let her go? Did she manage to escape? And if the Vampire was so near a son that he wanted, why did he never go and retrieve him?
I hate to say this when there are already so many fun looking characters up, but I'll have to make something for this.
Hey the more the merrier!
When are you picking characters?
I won't be able to have a fully fleshed out back story until at least midday (UTC-7) Saturday
Oh you have time. It'll be sometime next week, maybe around Wednesday. It depends on how many submissions pour in and how many people still want to submit.

YoricksRequiem |

Wel here I am submiting a fetchling gunsliger: Thaig Karthee
Solid, I really dig the gunslinger's plight, and how he now hates magic.
Just to let you guys know, my online presence this weekend will be somewhat spotty. I'll be online for the next 9 hours or so while I'm at work if you want something looked at, otherwise it may have to wait until Monday, but keep the submissions coming, I'm really enjoying reading up on these characters!

Yeah the reading is nice... but then comes the time for choosing... Xd

YoricksRequiem |

The longer I'm here the more I'm amazed when I see recruiting threads open for longer than just a few days. You wind up seeing a lineup of really awesome characters as long as my arm.
Yeah, that's why I'm totally not rushing this one. It's going to be a b#%~# when it comes time to choose, but it's so worth it.
Yeah I really wish my table came with characters like these.
I can almost never get the people at my table to think up character backgrounds, it's awful. They're like "WHO CARES, RAPE AND PILLAGE" and I'm like ">_>"

Alex Mack |

I've decided on a concept. I'll be going for a goblin pitfighter. Former warrior of a tribe of mountain goblins who was taken slave after a raid gone wrong. Who then slugged it out with orcs and ogres in the death pits to become a hero of the people and earn his freedom.
any idea which city in the region would work best for such a background Yorrick?
Mechanically I'll prolly be going for Urban+Savage barbarian. No weapons, no armor just manly ass kicking. And thanks to being a goblin he'll also make an awesome scout.
Now Sznek tell story of his life. And longshank listen and make evil letters so all longshanks know to fear tribe of the mountain goat!

Rellen Marn |

I use incentives, you get a point buy, starting gold, and hero points if you do more prep work, everybody always comes with everything done, lol. You don't want to be the guy with a fifteen point buy when everyone else has 20 - I'd probably let them retcon raise it if they did, but its never come up.

I'm going through this right now. One player submitted pages of background. Everyone else has a character sheet and that's it. I'm kinda grumpy about it.

I actually took on a system like this. Players at this point start with a 15 point buy, human, half-elf or dwarf and 0 GP. Still nothing this time around.

Really dig the idea. You're definitely from Kaer Maga. Think of it as something of a Old-Western town meets Mos Eisley. It's on the verge of a vast wasteland of desert, and there's literally no real law there. It's a horrible place. It should not be difficult for you to have a reason why you'd want to leave there after earning your freedom.

Everything had to be written or typed out, so I'd have a record of it later.
This was for a kingmaker game, so hopefully that last one makes sense.
-To choose a different race from the core rule book (this includes Human ethnicities that are not Taldan) explain why your character is in unfamiliar lands.
-To play one tainted by outsider blood tell me how that came to be, and which outsider was your forebear.
-To play one of the more alien races explain how it is that you are not killed on sight.
-To be more powerful (20 point buy) tell me of your characters background, in detail.
-To further hone your strength (25 point buy) describe two positive traits and two negative traits your character bears and why.
-To gain belongings (average wealth for your character class) tell me what your character looks like, and how they comport themselves.
-To be richer still (max wealth for your character class) describe one item you bear that was inherited from someone important to you, and how it came to be yours.
-To have skills borne of experience (two traits) weave the skills into the background that shapes your character.
-To feel the comforts of home - You may gain a trait for free if it is from the Kingmaker Player's Guide and unmodified in it's narrative.
-To gain the bonus trait Right of Kings below tell me a story, in character. It could be about anything relevant a tale of your ancestors, a story told to children before bedtime or an ode to the might of the gods.
Right of Kings: Once per day you may decide, before rolling, to add 1d6 to a single 1d20 roll.

Hm.. Haven't tried something like this, but yeah I have 2 players with good backgrounds, one who didn't finish the sheet yet for the first session, and two who have just a character sheet, to be fair one of them thought about a concept for his character which involves the city and all. They were also late... Extremely late... Yeah I'm more than Grumpy... Sorry that became a rant and that It moved away from the Topic XD Good Luck to everyone!

Yeah, I think I need to rework that. :)
I may go back and make it more of an unknown father and more of a foundling in the aftermath of a hobgoblin raid.....
Should be able to work it out more in next couple of days...

Haha, I know how you must feel. We just got Mobile Hotspot from Verizon (hope that didn't break some advertising rule) about a month ago, and I'm spending time where there normally isn't any internet, but the new Hotspot lets me keep up (unless something weird happens) on my laptop so I don't have to type on my phone the whole time.
It's a little pricy though, but well worth the convenience.

The code of mercenary honor.
point 1 the contract is the contract fulfill it and collect your due.
point 2 should you perform the conditions of the contract and your employer does not pay you, then you are allowed to wring his neck and hang him from the town wall with the contract nailed to his chest.
point 3 only the letter of the contract need be fulfilled the spirit does not.
point 4 do not take contracts involving children or enraged spouses.
point 5 if you come across evidence that your employer intends to stab you in the back their is no dishonor in striking first.
gm your feedback?

Sznek |

Sznek will stop Red Hand of Doom! Sznek mighty warrior of mountain goat Clan! All fear Sznek! You longshank take letters in Sznek profile and see if you not choose Sznek you make Goblin children sad! Goblin children grow up angry Goblins and come to you at night and eat you alive!
Sznek not know if after being king of Arena in Kaer Maga he go back to Mountain goat and protect them from invaders or he be in KAer Maga and protect puny longshanks from invaders. You be GAME MASTER. You know how your game work. You say Sznek what Sznek do for better story for little Goblins. Story very important for little Goblins. If you don't tell little Goblins story of big hero they become evil Goblins and eat longshanks at night!
Meanwhile longshank look in books with letters and numbers and make Sznek strong and crunchy! You laugh and say Goblin Barbarian not strong? Wait till you see Sznek in action!

Zeitha |

Fluff for Zeitha, Fetchling Wizard.
1. Zeitha is very heady, and she’ll prattle on about something she finds interesting for a while. She’ll go on about Plane of Shadow and Kayal artifacts for a long time, if you let her.
2. Zeitha is curious to learn new things, and will put herself--and others--in danger to acquire something particularly beautiful or interesting.
3. Zeitha has a strong sense of responsibility. As an extraplanar traveler, she has to be careful not to take dangerous material with her on her expeditions.
4. Zeitha likes to keep some of the more interesting shadow artifacts. Usually not the powerful ones, but the pretty ones.
5. Zeitha inherited the mercantile business from her mother, and has a lot to live up to. She hopes that she’s not the one to fail the business, or worse, bring something over that could threaten innocents.
1. Zeitha is constantly looking for magical artifacts from the Plane of Shadow—especially things that shouldn’t leave the Plane of Shadow. She wants to return these objects back to her home, or destroy those that might threaten the existence of the Material Plane, or worse, its absence might destroy the Shadow Plane.
2. I would like to see Zeitha have to choose between her existence as a merchant and her need to keep balance between her mercantile life and her search for these out-of-place artifacts.
1. Zeitha has kept one artifact with an innate power. She keeps it in her vault at her place of residence, but she doesn’t know what it does; just that it’s better in her hands than in anyone else’s. The orb is malleable and shapeable, but Zeitha doesn’t know its purpose beyond that.
2. Zeitha doesn’t know that Tardiel has had his eye on her for a long time.
1. Renzara, Zeitha’s business partner. She does the real digging for Zeitha’s enterprise, while Zeitha is the face of the organization. Zeitha doesn’t always trust Renzara’s decisions, but she knows that her heart is in the right place.
2. Tardiel, a drow business partner with contacts, skills for linguistics, and—most importantly, a need for a special elixir made from shadow-touched herbs, or else he gets particularly irritable. They have a mutually beneficial relationship, but it’s occasionally very rocky.
3. The Man who Invaded: the unknown man who broke into Zeitha’s home, searching for her orb.
1. Zeitha remembers a man sneaking into her home one night. They apparently knew the keeping place of the shadowy orb. They attempted to steal the object. She now keeps it in a safe in the floor of her home.
2. Because of this, she acts a little paranoid, especially in reference to anyone who knows about the artifact.
3. She will look over her shoulder and tilt her head if she is suspicious of something, or something frightens her.
Let me know if this is sufficient, or you need more for this to work. I still need to give her a place that she's from, but I'd like a little input as to where would be most fitting for her to live. Thanks!

YoricksRequiem |

Posting via mobile is awful. Rest assured that I'm reading everything that comes in, but making extended posts, especially quoting multiple things, is a horrifyingly daunting task. As I've said, there's still plenty of time left for submissions.
I should be able to give everyone some feedback on Monday, Tuesday at the absolutely latest. If you have a speicific question, totally feel free to PM me, it's at least a bit easier to respond there.
Wednesday was the earliest I was planning to select my players, but I may extend it a bit because I wasn't expecting to be quite so MIA this weekend. Rest assured, it won't be a common occurence in my game!

![]() |

I'm actually thinking of a kobold ranger. Having his egg stolen and sold before he hatched would have brought endless opportunities for misadventure, including nearly being scrambled before birth. Being taken in by a shrewd sorcerer who had a way with words gave him the chance to grow up as something other than a skittish, cowardly slaver.
Concept just popped into mind as I read recruitment. I'll see if I can flesh it out over the next day or two.

Krazzix |

OK! Good news and bad news. Good news? character background is coming together. Bad news? I got caught up in the flow and inadvertently made a background that doesn't really feel like it has much of a place in our current setting and is more intended for my own evolving homebrew world. Thankfully I left specific places and names out for the most part, so it's malleable I guess.
but WHO CARES? I want a chance to play my little acrobat, so I'm postin' him anyway.

Yeah, I think I need to rework that. :)
I may go back and make it more of an unknown father and more of a foundling in the aftermath of a hobgoblin raid.....

Either way would be cool with me, it just seems like it needs a little bit more hammering on.

It's of interest to me that there are rules in America that, you know, "monopolies are wrong", and so much of our society is based around not just capitalism, but having options.
I've seen it said that the fast-food chains aren't competing with each other, but with those of us who actually eat food from grocery stores, because once you get into a habit, even if it's a bad one, you're stuck with it, and it's hard to break, especially with so many options around.
And yet every place I've ever lived, Comcast has been the only only internet provider available, and this has allowed them to do some, well, less than stellar things.
The code of mercenary honor.

I like it, though I still think it's, generally speaking, probably somewhat unnecessary. It's good for plotting out the type of person your character is, but this story operates a little differently than someone hiring you, for the most part, anyway.

Ah, I see you've borrowed Lexi's background template. I like it in the sense that it gives a feel for who your character might be, as well as getting the feeling of them having an established life - contacts and a home and so on.
As to where you're from and where you're going, I'd suggest that having your own place in Korvosa or Skelt would make sense. They are both good-sized trading areas. It's also possible that some of the ruins in the Thornewastes may provide some of the artifacts that you'd be searching out.
OK! Good news and bad news. Good news? character background is coming together. Bad news? Oh I do like him quite a bit, and I think he could fit in with very minimal changes. The city of Skelt and the Fangwood Forest seems an appropriate place to be from. The war that he saw is somewhat problematic, but I know how I could make it work.

Sznek |

Sznek like when Longshank like Sznek. Longshank smart. But Longshank not care if Sznek be in Kaer Maga or Minespin Mountains?
Now Sznek be all crunchy. Maybe Sznek get other feat at level 5. Deadly aim make Sznek switch hitter Reckless abandon make Sznek hit always and Sznek hit strong. Longshank think scout should be good with bow, Sznek not so sure.

YoricksRequiem |

Apologies for slowness. I hope I can finish Pari soon.
Ah don't worry about it, there's still time yet. I am thinking of closing submissions sometime next weekend.
Shishka is still in, or i should say an applicant
Haha, why wouldn't she still be an applicant?

I will admit to some initial hesitance on Sznek because of his super high dexterity. I don't think anyone else has submitted a character with a stat higher than an 18 (and even those have been generally rare), and he has a 22. At the same time, the other stats being super low does seem to balance it nicely. Plus I like him.
But - if I choose him, I may ask that you drop the Dexterity belt, depending on the rest of the party, at least early on, until I see how things play out.
[EDIT] Ack, posts while I'm posting.
I just realized... you get a feat every odd level in Pathfinder don't you? I'm still in 3.5 habits with leveling up.
Haha, the differences still confuse me sometimes too. make the appropriate adjustments, no harm no foul.
Cool. As mentioned, I just kinda wrote when the images popped into head, and they often do so with my own little pre-established cast and the world they live in, so feel free to suggest adjustments for canon's sake.
Yeah, the only thing about the war, is that the army you saw would not have been... human. If that meshes alright with you, we can totally make it work.

TrueRepentance |

If this isn't closed I will apply with a human cleric.
She isn't devoted to a particular deity but did grow up with one parent following Sarenrae, the other secretly a follower of Zon-Kuthon. When it was discovered the marriage didn't last long and our hero had already been taught. She is conflicted and never followed a specific deity but finding merits to both she took what she liked and made a type of religion for herself of the two. Working on this idea but she will have the Day and Night domains(if you allow), be true neutral (leaning heavily towards lawful). Should be ready by wednesday... hopefully :p
Thoughts?

Nope, looks good!

No yeah that's totally fine, and those domains are good with me. I mentioned to someone before that Canorate is run by a Temple Council and has a rather large following to Sarenrae if it works for you to be from there.
Here is the completed portfolio for Eclis, my Wayang sorceress. Any concerns please just ask and I can change/alter whatever is needed.
Thank you
Daniel Stewart
Background is concise and solid. I like the element of mystery that it adds to the Fangwood forest, and I like that you've really made it into a home for your character. I also really like the idea of a Shadow Sorceress.

TrueRepentance |

I wonder what would happen with deity Favoured weapon since she kinda follows two gods.
Here is a thought. Not sure if this is allowed I just reckon it would be awesome role playing.
She has a split personality.
One is true Neutral, uses favored Scimitar and channels positive and is more towards good in her neutral alignment.
The other is lawful neutral, uses Favoured spiked chain, channels negative and leans slightly evil.
She "talks" or "cooperates" between personalities writing down important things that happened while each personality was in control. So they kind of know what has been going on while not in control. She is a little bit messed up lol but only uses evil against other evil (causing pain to get information, sometimes killing a defenseless evil creature or in cold blood, stealing) but never against those that don't impede her (good people and the party).
I swear I'm not trying to break the game or anything, just had a crazy idea that sounded more and more awesome the more I try to flesh it out.
