Verim surges with power his skin darkening even more than before and in contrast his eyes glow a warm blueish white. Almost tossing his Glaive to the side it being of little use this close, Verim pulls his cestus back for a powerful punch pulling his dagger out immediately afterword with the excess force from the attack. He aimed for the creatures skull.

" I WONT MISS! I WONT BE STOPPED. DEMONS... KILL, KILL... ALL OF YOU! "

The shout a contrast to his earlier position with fights. The song coming from Laris distorted it seems as Verim embraces it in the mist.

I'll move it along, since Maxwell and Laris are not currently in a position to do much.

The other side of the small maze opens up into the sewers beneath Kenebras. From here, you know it will no more than a few hundred feet before you can find a ladder up to whatever remains of the city.

Welcome to third level. I would recommend resting for the night before heading up to street level.

Verim continues to smash the demon well after it had dropped as if in a daze; ignorning the wound. The sickening sounds of blood splatter and bones crunching as he does so. As if there was absolutely no mercy in the strikes, made to crush, debilitate and maim; very unlike the normal Verim. As he does so his skin became darker and began to gain a violet hue along with hit the blood seemingly seeping into his skin.

Each fall of his fists more fierce until the creature was nothing more.. Maxwell having a first-person view of the brutality... He seemed to be in his own world.

Woot Level 3.. also I am conflicted with Verim as there is something that can happen but not sure if I want to push it back or get it now and not use it.. Hrmmm Either way, good job everyone we survived to underground. Now to see what Hell the surface brings us.

Seeing the situation unfold through teared up eyes and a fatigued stomach, Maxwell focused primarily on defending Mia, but couldn't help but keep Verim within his sights. The situation was unnerving, first and foremost, and as the beast fell over and he continued, and the fumes left the area, he fell to his knees and breathed a sigh of relief. Turning, he looked to Mia. "Are you alright?" he asked, half-looking at her and half-looking at Verim.

Feeling his stomach turn and looking away from Vanamun for a moment, he chuckled. "I've felt better." he said as he looked back towards the man. Shaking his head, and yet understanding, he calmly said; "It's dead, Verim." before getting back to his feat.

Verim's fist fell more heavily Five, Six, SEVEN times before stopping finally.. Maxwell may have lost count the times in which he did so. And surely it did not make his stomach situation any better. Verim's head slowly turned towards Maxwell's direction his atmosphere somehow changing not in the slightest as a crazed eye with a red ring inside the iris looks upon Maxwell. It lingers there for a moment as if analyzing the Groetun as a target before locking on. However, a steam seems to come from Verim, his fervor waning, muscles shrinking and skin returning to its normal hue, blinking, once, twice.. and then eyes returning to their earlier playfulness.. almost in a confused state.

" ... Huh, Wha-? What do you mean? The Dem- " Almost jumping as he looks at the viscera he had covered himself with and the feeling of pain that now wracked his hands, pulling it close as if to nurse it. The wounds also bringing their own amount of.. pain. " Ugghh, T-That smarts, everyone Okay.. T-they all gone right? Argh Why do I feel like pain? Hehe? " His tone that of the previous Verim.. without a slip of seriousness.

As the vile mist clears Laris walks over to the others, "Easy Verim, it's over." she notes his reaction towards Maxwell, the two haven't exactly got on since we started, though Verim's attitude to everything was... skewed.

Verim looks up at Laris slowly piecing together it was him that caused this scene to happen, his eyes widening at the realization but tried to mask the shock upon his face. " I-I see, I went out of control a bit didn't I? At least tell me it was only the Demons.. they WERE demons right? Laris smiles warmly and offers Verim her hand, "Your rage was directed in the proper direction, and we are all friends here. Now we're nearly to the surface, let us gather our strength before walking into what is probably a warzone." Laris closes her eyes a moment and lets out a sigh, she wants to rush up there and do something to help, but there is no sense in getting killed before accomplishing anything.

Verim's visage turns from that of surprise to that of his cheerful self, a wide smile beaming through. He grasped Laris' hand and hoisted himself up, strength and conviction returning to his knees. " Y'know, with a smile and supple touch like that Laris, you could make even a hardened warrior like me warm all over. Good to see that I got reliable 'friends' " He gives Laris a wink and starts stretching, trying to get rid of some of the gore upon his person. " Your probably right about the surface.. if there were only two of those things down here I'd hate to imagine how many are above. Might as well eat what might possibly be our last dinner and prepare for the worst, like ya' suggested... Which reminds me.. Where are my other weapons? I could have sworn I .. Already on lock-down lol

Verim scratches his right cheek with a finger as a bead of sweat rolls down his face, slightly nervous. " S-Simply a compliment. I was always told to give credit where credit is due and voice when I saw beauty, but never in jest. The souls of some shine much brighter than the outer surface. At least, that's what my father always taught me. Thanks for finding the Glaive for me.. Now I have to find the sword.. I think its.. down there somewhere.. I'll go tell Wendaug to get ready for Supper " as he merrily goes down the hall to eventually find his shortsword.

When he retrieves the weapon he returns to Wendaug and seems hesitant. Sheathing the weapons and drawing a waterskin. " Well, er, the way to the surface is a little up the ways.. and we decided to rest. SO, that means your in for some good cookin'! I know you must be nervous.. not seeing the surface and all, but I assure you it will be fine. I got this group to here I can make it to safety even if I have to give my life. So.. Wendaug have you ever had mead? Its quite delicious and will make The Jungle Maiden Tallina's cooking taste all that much sweeter. Oh, and if you want to ask anything.. I'll be glad to answer, I would think we should all become.. friends. " Verim attempting to engage in conversation with Wendaug.

Well lets pray to the lords this isnt terrible.. let the redemption/friend process begin

As you emerge from the sewers, you find the city of Kenabres vastly different from the city you left just days ago. The tremors and daemonic attacks have devastated the city, leaving it a smoking, apocalyptic ruin. Deep chasms riddle the city, while the paths of enormous demons have left ruinous trails extending outward from the city's heart. Above, the once familiar skyline of Kenabres is forever changed - the tower of the Kite and Cathedral of St. Clydwell having been completely destroyed, while elsewhere plumes of dark smoke still rise from the remains of burned down buildings. Fat buzzards wheels above in skies scarred by red smoke and black clouds. The Worldwound has expanded its boarders, and now the city of Kenabres is enveloped in it.

The party will need to decide where in Kenabres it wishes to travel. The streets are, to put it mildly, not safe. The Dotted lines and locations marked on the Kenabres map represent your undergound jouney, with the party emerging from the sewers at H16

Wendaug shrugs at Verim's attempt at friendship, before turning away, I don't think you're going to be offering me that mead any time soon boy, or much of anything else. From the looks of things, you would be safer going back underground. I'm sure your friends would find welcome within the tribes.

It's going to be a long night. Why don't you get a good nights sleep. I'll stand watch tonight. I doubt you could see much anyways.

Surveying the city's skyline before returning to the sewers, Anevia is pale and visibly shaken by what she has seen. My gods, I never could have imagined such destruction. I don't know how anybody could have survived that. I need to get back to my house. If Irabeth survived, she will find her way back there looking for me.

Coming back down the ladder behind Anevia, Horgus' normally gruff manner seems to have disappeared. It's bad up there. Very bad, the worst I've ever seen or heard of. If anywhere is safe, my manor should have held. I've guards and good solid walls about the place. We should hurry there with all due haste.

From the fallen stone block where he's been sitting, Aravashnial also appears deeply disturbed. We should head directly to Blackwing. I have allies there that are well equipped to handle demons. Once we have been briefed on the full extent of the cities damage, we can try to track down any other survivors.

Horgus begins to grow agitated with Aravasnial's suggestion. What are you, daft? What the hell are a bunch of decrepit librarians going to do against demons? Throw books at them? Ask them to keep the noise down?

Male Human Warpriest 3

Walking out into the light, Maxwell is aghast at the destruction he sees. It was a long night and his dreams had functioned as they normally did, by keeping him more awake than he cared to be. Nightmares aside, he never expected this. Stopping for a moment he looks out, and beside the people looking forward he sees his deceased family with the holes in their chests and the burns overlooking the destruction as he moves up towards them in a fever.

Shaking his head, he pats Horgus on the shoulder with a bit of force. "At the moment, Gwerm, I believe any help is going to be helpful." he claims in a solemn manner.

Standing out in front of the crowd, he shakes his head. "Never... Never did I expect this. To fight back, I had atleast expected some moniker of defense, and yet..." he says, slightly losing it. "No. Somehow. In this godforsaken world, I've still managed to lose something?!" he asks in an outrage. Throwing down his heavy flail on the ground with a force he paces back and forth.

Removing his necklace, he stares at it. "You're pleased about this aren't you? All the power in the world, and yet you still cost me so much. So much! So much and for so little! So VERY LITTLE!" he exclaims, turning around. Stuffing the amulet back down his breastplate, he looks back at the group.

"We're going to Horgus's Manor. Books aside, we need strong arms right now, before anything. If Blackwing is on the way, we'll stop there first..." he says, kneeling down and grabbing the Flail, looking at it for a moment before heading forward.

Turning, to the party one last time, he scowls. "If I don't live beyond this day, I apologize. I'm Maxwell Lionheart, faithful of Groteus. At the very least, I want to remain a memory." he tells you as he starts back down. "However long that lasts..." he mumbles.

Their trip to the underground had a small lasting effect on Tobongo as the spirits of the earth wrapped around him and drew gems up from the earth as the poked through his bark. Mostly peridot and brown diamonds they seem to be covering vital areas around his trunk.

Tallina takes a seat to ponder what they should do. The city was devastated, the place where she came to join the crusades had fallen. Looking up at the sky she prays for an answer, hoping one comes to her in her dreams.

With Maxwell being so open, Tallina joins suit. "I am Tallina Kapok, outcast of the Ekujae tribes of the Mwangi, and servant of the Green Faith. It has been good travelling with you all, I don't wish for that to come to an end. As for what to do next I am torn, we should help all three of our friends but I agree with Maxwell. We should head to the Manor first, if Blackwing or Anevia's home is along the way or not too far out of the way we should make appropriate stops. But we should also take care to be hidden from whatever may still lurk within the city."

"I am Laris, of house D'Vagne of Nerosyan. If the fiends have struck here, I know not what has happened elsewhere in Mendev - but there is no time to worry on that now. May we stand as one and oppose this threat."

Turning to Horgus, "Master Horgus, it appears we have reached an accord to head for your manor first, though depending on the state it is in, we cannot promise more than that. Can you direct us there?"

Verim sighs at his rejection but remembered one thing his father always said ' Persistence is key, showing your determination in any task that comes in life ' As he had witnessed the aftermath of the Demon assault with everyone else.. He felt.. odd. Not in the way that one would be from immense rage or sadness.. but failure. That all he did before he fell below might have been undone.. that like Gundahar, the child he saved was killed as well as all the other innocents. It was if his previous slaying of demons was all but a drop of water.. in a bucket.

His father was right, there would be great tests to his very being and faith; If he stood strong. " Fine, you dont have to drink, but I'll watch with you.. I won't back down from this hell, I made a promise.. I intend to keep it. " He mentioned to Wendaug before joining the rest of the group. He wanted to cry for so many reasons.. but Morale.. if broken.. would be defeat.

Verim stood with the rest, his demeanor solemn, at least for him, however he forced himself to retain a semblance of his normal cheeriness " Since we are being so open, I guess I'll repeat what you all know by now.. I .. am Verim of the Pharae Lands, follower of Arqueros, son of Juha, leader of the Evanescent Brigade; a More.. Noble group of Mercenaries. Long ago I made an oath to my God to protect you all.. and I intend to do so until my final breath.. All I ask is that you remember me fondly, but Hey, If you don't at least your free of my voice for the time. Now while it all seems we will help Sir Horgus, I must remind you all.. as a Protector.. that one of our charges is Blind and the other Limping.. the LESS we have them under stress the better.. If Horgus will provide some aid towards that. Otherwise we should try and hit each place as fast as possible and help any survivors along the way. And if we find any demons.. " Verim's eyes flash for a moment and he makes a tight-gripped fist as if crushing something " .. I'll handle them like the rest. "

"Gwerm's manor is between Blackwing and Anevia's home, if we head there first, we will have to head away from one to reach the other, since we'll need to find our way through the walls anyway it looks like there is a breach none too far from Blackwing, perhaps we should go there first, then take route to the manor, then onto Anevia's home."

", folding his arms over his chest and sighing at the weight of their decisions. " I hope your wife, Anevia, and your allies, Aravashnial, are well. "We'll do the closest first; the less time we're on the streets, the better." Luci said, pushing down her thoughts about seeing the city in such a state. She only hoped her mother had made it to safety when the attack had begun. She wasn't consciously aware of it, but pushing away the shock of seeing Kenabres so devastated only led to the rage at it burning even hotter.

One hand firmly on the hilt of her new sword, Luci muttered a prayer to her god, the last bit softly through clenched teeth. "Lymnieris, give me the strength to get through this, and to kick some damn demon ass!"

Making your way carefully through the streets of Kenabres towards Blackwing, the grim results of the city's fall are everywhere. The fallen bodies of citizens lay scattered through the streets, awaiting the attention of the daemonic vultures circling overhead, and through the smoke and rubble the occasional scream can be heard, evidence of another citizen falling prey to the remaining invaders.

Taking a side street to avoid drawing attention to yourselves, you come across a group of crusaders, armor stained and bloody, standing over a young girl, swords drawn, faces sooty and grim, eyes fervish. Quiet girl, your sacrifice will be for the common good. Sheathing our swords in a virgin is the only way our weapons will harm the demons.

As they traveled Verim's grip and teachings of his family had become ingrained further into his body. This allowed him to hold the weapons that a normal man would need both hands to balance, with only slight discomfort. Choosing in this case to fight much like a compatriot of his often displayed.. a Phalanx. A glaive and shield had its advantages.

Verim lead the way with Luciana, making a tight-knit team and covering their weak spots with the current set-up. When he happened upon the scene however, his body reacted faster than his mind.. as he began moving towards them " WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR DOING!? HAVE YOU FALLEN SO FAR!? "

If possible he would move a bit on the map but not sure if that'd be a surprise round or Init move.

Seeing the men preparing to "sheathe" their swords in the young girl, Verim charges them, screaming, before anyone else can react.

Initiative:
Luciana: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Laris: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
Maxwell: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Mia: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Verim: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Tallina: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Tobongo: 1d20 ⇒ 12
Crusaders: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20

Out of the office today. They are turning us loose on Baltimore. Won't be able to update until this evening.

Spell reserves:
Lvl 1 (4/4) Lvl 2(3/3), Heal Hex: Bianca V, Luci X, Max V, Talli V, Verim X, Wen V.
Halfling Witch lvl 4 Hp 30/30 AC 14, T13, FF 12. CMB+0, CMD12, Fort +4 Ref +4 Will +5, Init+2, Perc. +2, speed 20ft

So much for diplomacy. Was hoping to convince them to join.
Ah well, beatdown time.

Laris shakes with barely controlled rage at the thought of the crusaders falling so far already. "We fight our way out here for this, you are supposed to protect the innocent, not slay them yourself."

Also note that I can now do Marching Song to hustle on overland movement without fatigue (costs 1 round performance per hour) given the situation Laris will probably be using it for most of our trekking about, unless stealth seems more important than speed

Thanks for reminding me Verim, I'd forgotten that even did that, along with Lingering Song, I can probably afford to inspire rage for even minor encounters. Though don't think lingering performance does anythign for marching since that's hourly

Human Fighter 2/Titan Mauler 2 (Lvl 4) HP 38(46)[50]/38(46)[50]| AC 23(21) T 12(10) FF 21(19) | Fort +8(+10)[+11] Ref +2 Will +1(+3)| CMD 19 | Init +2 | Perception +8 : Conditions

Verim rushes the Crusader in the way from him to the young woman his glaive scraping against the walls as he accelerates, pulling his body inward and shield out as a brace. He seeked to knock as many of them back while they were unaware and juxtapose himself over the girl. He was not sure how far they had fallen and was going to find out. As Verim approaches his eyes glow once more as divine purpose surges through him. " RAAAAAAGH! YOU CALL YOURSELF CRUSADERS!? OUTTA MY WAY! "

Charging Raging Bullrush: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22

He Slams into the man with his shield seeking to overpower, drag him along the wall and back into the other crusader.

Verim will follow until he is over the woman and then stop to protect her if this works.

Charging Raging Bullrush: Domino Edition: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17

This one is if the first succeeds by 5 or more, thus hitting the back Crusader, to determine if he moves as well.. Not sure if against FF CMD or not.

EDIT: No problem Laris it was something I happened to notice offhand; Also When Verim did this I couldnt help but thinking of this video. Which turns out to be the Theme song I have for Verim; It pretty much sums up his actions outside of the first Video I linked, his conviction, how he would hand a love interest and what he seeks to protect. The MC is alot like him too.

Male Human Warpriest 3

Seeing the Crusaders falling so far, Maxwell holds back about as much as Verim does. Rushing towards them at full speed, he firmly places his flail with an unprecedented ferocity into the battle. "I fought my way so far, and yet still! I almost knew this would happen but the better half of me, what little's left didn't want to believe it. Have all of you daft fools fallen so far?" he asks, raising his hand. The darkness, as per usual, surges deep within it, but bursts with a new red hue.

Reaching out, he touches, of all things, Wendaug, who's bow surges with a crackling, dark power.

Touch of Destruction. Wendaug gets a +2 on weapon damage rolls.

He walks forward a ways, but leaves room for the others, as Verim has planted himself firmly in a choke point. As he does, he turns to look at Wendaug. "Dont miss."

Verim's charge catches the crusaders off balance as he pushes them backwards, one stumbling as he is pushed into a crater in the ally. Standing guard over the fallen girl, Verim braces himself for the oncoming attacks.

You provoked two AoO's, one from the crusader you bull rushed, one from the crusader you ran past.

Longsword: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Longsword: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

Quickly recovering from their shock at Verim's attack, they quickly retaliate, surrounding Verim. Kill these fools quickly, before the vultures notice. We need to be prepared.

The first two will have flanking vs. Verim

Longsword: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Staggered: Verim can choose to release his rage and fall unconscious or I can roll the next attack.

One I didnt adjust from Resting so Verim is still up at 3, Two I must assume they have combat reflexes as they got attacks of op. Continue your attacks regardless.

EDIT Ah I see we must have assumed healing was dolled out as soe people are at full so I guess 5 is the appropriate number, Either way He's up./

"NOOOOOOO!!!!"

I think Maxwell and the insane crusader are fully blocking view here.

"Mr. Maxwell, please smack them so we can rescue him."
A ward Hex on Maxwell
