El Garrapata |
El Garrapata hustles across the Log (tm), and moves toward the great cow-woman!
"FIENDISH COW-WOMAN! You have ATTACKED OUR HALFLING and UTTERED VILE CURSES in your FOUL MOO-TONGUE! PREPARE TO GET SMACKED! Garrapata swings, a ferocious haymaker!
RIGHTEOUS JUSTICE to the FACE!: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26 for 1d3 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 1 = 6 nonlethal damage!
RIGHTEOUS JUSTICE to the FACE WITH A SIDE OF POTENTIAL CRITABILITY!: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 6 + 2 = 22 for 1d3 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 1 = 6 nonlethal damage!

Move 25 ft: /||/ to slip in though the angle
Attack
No such clear angle on this guy or any Large-size ogre or troll with a club for that matter. See here (you'll have to scroll down to the Large and Tall Threat template).
El Garrapata and Sidi can restate their actions if they like (though the attack rolls stick this round regardless). Otherwise someone is probably looking at a Large, Broken, Battleaxe of Opportunity (LBBoO).
Lydia Stillbourne |
[dice=RIGHTEOUS JUSTICE to the FACE!]1d20+6 for 1d3+4+1 nonlethal damage!
[dice=RIGHTEOUS JUSTICE to the FACE WITH A SIDE OF POTENTIAL CRITABILITY!]1d20+6+2 for 1d3+4+1 nonlethal damage!
You're a Brawler; shouldn't you be rolling 1d6 for fist damage?
El Garrapata |
I'm an idiot. I was confusing another character with this one! Thanks for keeping me awake!
Revised damages: 1d6 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 1 = 8 and 1d6 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 1 = 10 damage!
Oh no, Garrapata is committed to pummeling that dude. If I can reach him and attack, I will, and I'll take the AoO!
Minotaur! |
El is obviously odd. Sidi is even: 1d2 ⇒ 2
"BROOOWR!"
Large, Broken, Battleaxe of Opportunity v Sidi (shaken): 1d20 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 7 - 2 = 132d6 + 4 ⇒ (3, 5) + 4 = 12 Hit Miss!
The minotaur lands a glancing downward stroke, just to Sidi's left missing the man. Had Sidi been any slower he might have been cut in twain!
The World's Most Interesting GM |
While Sidi stumbles under the giant's onslaught, El Garrapata dives in and lands a ferocious haymaker that could have killed an ordinary person, but only jostles the minotaur, causing him to take a step back.
Tawner Too steep for running--though it is too cool not to let you parkour masters not try (Acrobatics DC 10 to run, miss by less than five and loose one move action, miss by five or more than, fall prone and loose a move), otherwise double moves as normal. I'll have the maps up later tonight.
Crossing the Log Acrobatics (DC 7), no Dex bonus to AC while attempting the crossing. Failed? It takes a Reflex save (DC 13) not to fall in the rough waters. Instead you just fall prone on the 3'-wide log. It's log, it's big, it's heavy, it's wood.

Did you include the penalties for being shaken?
Why-err, YES! Yes I did! (Eventually.)
Tawner Kelenfold |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Tawner clears the mouth of the cave 40' double move, and every other diagonal is 10'- map updated, I've literally just cleared it. Too many things happen at once:
There's a clearing, the sound of rushing water, some green foliage near the river, and chaos! The big men are engaged with an even bigger, deadlier Minotaur! War cries! Slashing!
Tawner hits his stride and digs in for more speed. He tries to yell something like Move away from them you big fat cow!, but all that comes out is, “MOO!” before Tawner has to gulp in more air. Great! Just great! My first battle cry is a cow giving birth! He continues to run full speed towards the others.
Airyn Skystalker |
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Airyn walks cautiously across the log. "Hit the nose! It'll startle him - er, her?"

"It's SHOWTIME...!"
Acrobatics to avoid attack of opportunity: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
slam: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18 additional +2 if I count as flanking with El Garrapata
damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 On a hit, the minotaur also takes a -2 penalty to Strength for 1 round.
Lydia Stillbourne |
Lydia closes in, guided by a trail of beckoning ghosts....
Acrobatics to avoid attack of opportunity: 1d20 ⇒ 4
Acrobatics to avoid attack of opportunity: 1d20 ⇒ 19
scythe: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
damage: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (4, 4) + 4 = 12
@DM: Be sure you're also factoring in the various detriments of broken weapons.
Hallimir Duskrin |
"MOOOOO!!!" The feral giant does not look happy about the arrow that scored its arm. Hallimir can tell because the thing is looking directly at him.It pulls a huge javelin (little more than an uprooted and sharpened) sapling from its bandoleer and hurls with terrific force at the elf.
The small tree hits another small tree just to Hallimir's right bisecting it.
Jeez, this thing is just as dangerous at range!!!
Then watching the others close to surround the beast, Hallimir decides that he cannot safely hit the Minotaur with his bow without risking injury to his companions.
He sheaths his bow, hurtles himself towards the stream and leaps across and into a flanking position with El Garapatta. i.e. making sure I have a 10ft run up. DC 10 right?
Acrobatics across the stream: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Minotaur! |
Like a single viking at a convention of annoying, pointy-hatted gnomes the minotaur lays about itself with axe and horns! This time he concentrates on the big blue one--smacking El Garrapata until the big man topples, before taking a step back to survey the carnage.
Init targets: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Large, Broken, Battleaxe of Opportunity v El Garrapata (shaken, Str dam): 1d20 + 7 - 2 - 1 ⇒ (9) + 7 - 2 - 1 = 132d6 + 4 - 1 ⇒ (2, 6) + 4 - 1 = 11 A swing, and a miss.
Large, Broken, Battleaxe of Opportunity v El Garrapata (shaken, Str dam): 1d20 + 2 - 2 - 1 ⇒ (18) + 2 - 2 - 1 = 172d6 + 4 - 1 ⇒ (2, 3) + 4 - 1 = 8 A solid hit!
Gore! v El Garrapata (shaken, Str dam): 1d20 + 4 - 2 - 1 ⇒ (14) + 4 - 2 - 1 = 151d6 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (4) + 2 - 1 = 5 And another!

El Garrapata |
"The horns... totally forgot about the horns.." Garrapata utters as he falls.
Free stabilization check!: 1d20 + 2 - 3 ⇒ (20) + 2 - 3 = 19
Garrapata's physical ignorance allows him to once more avoid death!
Airyn Skystalker |
Airyn casts cure light wounds, then moves up to his fallen blue friend to deliver the healing magic.
Healing: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
"Stay down, friend. I don't think you can take another hit."
Sidi Yawgu |
Sidi swings his club again as the minotaur gores the odd blue-armored brawler, but it fails to connect. He grimaces in worry.

Tawner Kelenfold |
Tawner can only run up in to the foliage where he slows and tries to make his way through the thick brushes and grasses.
Feeling useless at the moment, he calls, taunts, and distracts the monster until he can get closer.
"I've got a bigger axe then you in my backpack. Nice and shiny! Come over here and have a gander." He huffs, "Come take it if you are strong enough."
The World's Most Interesting GM |
Airyn casts cure light wounds, then moves up to his fallen blue friend to deliver the healing magic.
"Stay down, friend. I don't think you can take another hit."
Are you sure? Cure light wounds is as mentioned before a touch-range spell, and were you are standing now is in the threat range of the minotaur....
The World's Most Interesting GM |
I'm going to Shirt Re-roll that To Hit.
You're not trying to pass off some old Bare Naked Ladies T-shirt from 1997 are you? Are you sure? Since it is part of the same roll/the possible result of your attack roll, I'm going to make you re-roll your damage too.
Airyn Skystalker |
He cast it first, outside of threatening range.
In the same round that you cast the spell, you may also touch (or attempt to touch) as a free action. You may take your move before casting the spell, after touching the target, or between casting the spell and touching the target.
Sidi Yawgu |
No problem. I don't expect to need to reroll a Fort save to avoid petrification, so I'll use it to try to end the fight. 11 is better than 7. And it's a pretty Season 8 shirt. :)
Greatclub Damage, Fatigue: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14

Gotcha. Not that it matters....
With loud *THUNK* the like the sound of a pop fly ball, Sidi beans the minotaur whose eyes roll up in his head before it falls over like a felled tree.
END COMBAT
Hallimir Duskrin |
Hallimir runs over to Janira and slowly pours his potion of CLW into her mouth.
Potion of CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
"Janira!!...drink this, it will aid your swift return to us."
"Sidi, Airyn, Keep watch. There may be more of those things around"
Tawner Kelenfold |
Can Tawner take 10 on crossing the log since combat is over? He's quickly developing a fear of drowning.
The World's Most Interesting GM |
Sure.
Tawner Kelenfold |
Hate to metagame, but she should be conscious and in the positive (hp) after Hallimir's intervention.
Tawner approaches Janira and the others. "Yes, the wand will help," he says with his eyebrows raised.
He glances over at Hallimir with a sly countenance. "Looks like you're saving lives too, Hallimir. Well done!"
He looks over at the fallen beast, having never seen a minotaur before.
An abomination...
And back to Janira, "Are you alright? What happened?" He holds out his hand to help her up.
Sidi Yawgu |
Sidi takes several steadying breaths as he moves away from the fallen minotaur and surveys the moonlit clearing. "I hope there are no more. They are fearsome strong."
Janira Gavix, Pathfinder |
Airyn turns back toward the halfling and nods sagely, "A Wo-Minotaur"
"Nope. From where I'm laying he is most definitely a man-o-taur. But whatever it was thanks. I owe you guys."
Janira gets to her feet--barely.
Sidi takes several steadying breaths as he moves away from the fallen minotaur and surveys the moonlit clearing. "I hope there are no more. They are fearsome strong."
"Yeah about that, are you guys finished exploring? Do you have all of your notes? You know Master Shaine is going to grade you once this all over, right? It might be best if we got a move on soon."
El Garrapata |
Garrapata nods. "I have TAKEN NOTES!" He hold aloft the referenced notes, proudly. "And I agree, let's leave before any more MANOTAURS decide to come MOOING around!" He gathers his things and begins the long walk home.
Lydia Stillbourne |
"Wait. Are we certain we figured out who was killing the Gillmenschen? It's not like Kobolds for a tiny band to just strike out on their own and go on risky killing sprees far from their homes...."
Sidi Yawgu |
"You are right, Lydia," Sidi says, rubbing his neck, "Those two kobolds could not have been the ones murdering the gillmen."
He looks around the clearing. "Those of you who can heal should tend the wounded and then come. There is the other tunnel to explore."
Hallimir Duskrin |
"Agreed, I doubt those Kobold's would have posed much of a threat to the Gillmen over all this time. Possibly that Transparent Jelly like creature we discovered, but we should be sure."
Hallimir stands up and wanders over to El Garapatta and slaps him around the shoulder. "Are you alright my firend...you took one hell of a beating?"
Hallimir Duskrin |
"Apologies Janira, allow me to explain....
After entering the cave we met a deaf old Gillman named Uori. He told us that the cave is an ancient shrine to Aroden which the Gillmen have since been using as a place of sacred place of meditation and worship."
Hallimir turns away from Janira and looks up into the night sky. "Unfortunately, many Gillmen have been disappearing in the caves, never to be seen again, and Uori had no idea why....we agreed to search and try to determine what had befallen the missing Azlanti."
Turning back to the group, "When we began our search, we came across a pair of Kobolds who had set up in one of the tunnels. They attacked us but when one tried to flee, it ended up engulfed in some kind of acidic jelly creature...which also attacked us....We could hear your battle with the Minotaur echoing through the caves and your words spurred us to a swift victory over the creature." Hallimir raises his fist in triumph.
"....we could hear your struggle and came as fast as we could to aid you".
