I'm leaning towards not doing so unless someone has a really cool player to join us in mind. I'm fine with putting in a new player but while having a Ron would be fun, having someone new in the party can get messy when we already have an established dynamic.
In other news, Sindran would definitely bring up that Ron is going to be wanted by the inquisition along with mentions of his wife and what she's likely to do to him.
Sindran would prefer to bring Ron along, if at least for a little while since he would know the area best and would serve as a nice distraction when they've just gotten out of the prison. He might not be terribly smart, but one more body between Sindran and any enemy is always a good thing.
'Course, we could just knock him out the whole trip while having Grumblejack carry him and decide what to do with him later.
Though really, Sindran would get weaker beings to serve him. Ron is a weaker being, at least in his eyes. Ergo, minion! Same with Grumblejack, really.
But keeping NPCs around the group that they can command can be tricky so I'd suggest just keeping them stashed away until such a time that they'd be viable to bring in as minions. Though, all up to you.
But here are some super secret plans for Ron if Sindran doesn't find him useful or too much of a pain to keep around:
Super secret plan 1: Give Ron to Tiadora! I'm sure she can find something for him to do and she seems the type to appreciate that kind of present.
Super secret plan 2: Give Ron to Grumblejack! Hey, Jack likes him and he did mention 'giving a humong to she'. And that way Ron gets to hide out! Maybe.
Super secret plan 3: Release Ron after making sure that he either feels indebted to Sindran or respect-fears him. Whatever he does when he runs doesn't matter, and if he does manage to survive, well, if they meet again then he might be of use.

Ron is going to tag along, until he becomes motivated otherwise.
Er, how did that happen? I thought we were talking about it, and right now, it's Sindran for it vs. Aerent and Talon against it.

Also, I'm aware that I'm shamelessly railroading you towards your appointment with the anonymous benefactor.
You are of course entitled to your own opinion of a desitination, and I would love to hear it. But, by now, the more intelligent members of your band of villains will have undoubtedly considered the anonymous benefactor :
Any person who spends thousands of gold pieces on a Veil of useful Items, then has someone of considerable ability infiltrate the prison to give that treasure (that's what it is, after all) to a bunch of death-row inmates, would **really** like to meet them - and will most likely be able to arrange it, one way or another. It would not be wise to deliberatly go against their wishes, until you know what they are. Best not to anger them too much.
Besides, you'll need a hideout. Who else can you trust?
So yeah, sorry. There's pretty much one way forward, for now. Think of the interactive opening sequence of your favorite video game - you can take some action, but it gets better after you reach a certain point.

Sorry, just catching up after my crazy busy day. In any event, Cala is definitely with Talon on this one, send Ron packing. As far as she is concerned, he's just another drunk guard with sh!t for brains... in other words, a liability.
increddibelly |
Well, seeing as how I have no spells...
Hmm, you do have spells, just no new ones. I'm not aware of a rule that says you forget your prepared spells; unless you go to sleep. Or did you mean you didn't have any useful spells for this occasion?
Caladwhen |
Maybe I'm confused, but what I had meant was that Cala had cast all but one of my prepared spells (Obscuring Mist) during the Prison Break. If we didn't have time to prepare spells, Cala still only has Obscuring Mist, which won't be of any use here.

Cha-ching, go spontaneous casters! I don't need no stinking reasons for why I can cast more spells, I just do! That 'renew spells each day' thing is hazy anyway.
Though, you know, I recently just found out some stuff about spontaneous casting:
Daily Readying of Spells
Each day, sorcerers and bards must focus their minds on the task of casting their spells. A sorcerer or bard needs 8 hours of rest (just like a wizard), after which she spends 15 minutes concentrating. (A bard must sing, recite, or play an instrument of some kind while concentrating.) During this period, the sorcerer or bard readies her mind to cast her daily allotment of spells. Without such a period to refresh herself, the character does not regain the spell slots she used up the day before.Recent Casting Limit
Any spells cast within the last 8 hours count against the sorcerer's or bard's daily limit.
<Source>
I knew about the needing rest bit, but I didn't know they needed to concentrate to 'ready their minds'. Also, pfft, a bard must perform to ready their daily spells.
Just thought I'd share since I found it interesting since I've never ever seen a sorcerer/bard 'ready their minds'. :P

[scowl]Artists. Pah![/scowl]
however, my first DnD character was a bard. I still pride myself on writing a 4 line rhyme for every inspire courage he ever cast. most were along the lines of"Kobolds are blue,
dragons are red,
next thing you'll know
we'll kill you all dead! Huzzah!!"
but hey, not bad for a gnome with wis 8.

Hah! Hilarious.
@GM increddibelly: By the way, should I roll Perception/Knowledge (nature) again? I rolled a few posts back but uber failed. :P
Sindran Eithe |
Argh. Sorry, I might have a hard time posting for a while. My internet suddenly got disconnected and I dunno when I can pay the bill to get it back up. My uni's internet is also annoyingly down so I can't post when I'm there so I pretty much don't have a stable connection. Just when I was going to post yesterday too.
Anyway, feel free to bot me around. Sindran is just going to relax in the mansion, I think. I'll try to get on as often as I can in the meantime.
Caladwhen |
lol IB... you have no idea how much I had to fight the urge to have Cala respond to Tiadora's outfit change with a most icy/catty comment like "dressing like a whore suits you much better Tia"
Caladwhen |
ooooh I wish you had - I'd like to think Tiadora is trying to break the Ice Queen facade you are keeping up };->
Oh is she now? Hah! Well then, it's not too late for a little disrespect.
Caladwhen |
On the issue of the money, I say we sell everything from Brandescar, save the spellbook Talon and I are going to need.
Actually, speaking of spells... would Thorn be able to provide us with a few choice spells IB? I'd love to get Obscuring Mist back into Cala's repertoire, which isn't in the Warden's old book.

The cardinal has a quite impressive library of arcane works, and both you and Talon are allowed to browse them at your leisure. Pretty much every spell related to the fire, earth, evil, lawful, conjuration, enchantment, illusion and evocation schools or descriptors can be found here. You can take 20 on your spellcraft roll to decipher the magical writing.
in other words, take your pick. I'm going to assume you copy some higher level spells while you're here, you'll need them eventually, and this is a smooth way to explain how you got them.

Apparently, writing a spell into your spellbook costs a cr@pload of money. I can't understand why, I've never charged casters for that.
If you can think of any reason why this should be so costly, I'd love to hear it.
Also, if you tear a page from a spellbook, I allow you to use that page as a scroll.
Caladwhen |
Couple of questions:
1) Mundane gear is free this time (which is good), but would that also include the cost of horse, or would that be extra?
2) There isn't much a Wizard needs in terms of gear, so I'd like to make some scrolls with Cala's funds. Each one would be about 50g. I'm assuming we would have time to scribe those correct?
3) Is there a limit to the number of spells we can scribe into our spellbooks?
We have 462g each correct?
IBTiadora |
"Transportation will be arranged for you."
you don't need to bother about horses, boats, carts, and whatnot. Currently, you all own at least 462 gold; on top of that goes 1/5th of any loot you want to sell. So the question remains :
"Would you like me to arrange appropriate compensation for the items stored in your rooms?"

Couple of questions:
2) I'm assuming we would have time to scribe [scrolls]3) Is there a limit to the number of spells we can scribe into our spellbooks?
2) Tiadora has left a teaser in the gameplay thread.
3) I'd say researching and copying one spell would take about an hour. So, if you work really hard for three days, you could gain up to 30 spells. But that would leave no time to chat or relax. For instance, any time spent on hen-fighting with Tiadora, would distract you from this task.
I believe Talon could assist in this task as well, and you do have two spellbooks at hand (Talon's, and Richter's), so the maximum number of spells is 60, wether you reach that count is a matter of your dedication to the task :)

Okay, I'll probably be able to post later this evening in more detail... but I'll have Cala concentrate on her spellbook as opposed to scrolls. I will take the necessary materials though to scribe some scrolls on whatever journey it is we're on.
Scrolls under 1000g only take a few hours to make, after that they get prohibitively harder to produce. Most of Cala's will be CL1 and CL2 1st level spells at a cost of 25-50g each.
Since some R&R is called for, Cala will copy about 18 spells, which gives her eight hours sleep and four hours of kicking her feat up. I'll give a complete list of spells tonight.

Wow. Lots happened. Still don't have a stable connection so feel free to just skip over me and I'll eventually catch up. I don't have enough time to make full posts, so I'll just toddle along.
Keeping everything I took (except for the basket and food and whiskey).
As for buying items, can we purchase Magic Items?
If so, anyone wanna pitch in for a Wand of Infernal Healing? Evilness++ and healing! Both Caladwhen, Talon, and I can use it (as opposed to Cure Light Wounds with just me).
Still a good idea to keep in mind in the future.
Start: 462gp
End: 406gp
Backpack, Masterwork (50gp) [4lbs]
Pouch, Spell components (5gp) [2lbs]
Oil, Kerosine (5gp)
Kit, pyrography (1gp) [2 lb] (Sindran assumes this works just as well on skin? Actually, can Sindran also write on paper using burn marks? Would save me lugging around ink.)
Signal Whistle
Blank Book [1 lb]
Stationary (x5)
Inkpen
Ink vials (x2) (16 gp?)
Flask [1-1/2 lbs]
+Silver Medallion (holy symbol of Asmodeus)
+Iron Circlet (minor magic item)
Sindran travels light.

I'll do my best to be finished tomorrow morning - about 14 hours from this post, if not before.
In the meantime, Aerent tries to find out everything he can about Cardinal Thorn and Tiadora. Who they were before, how many people work for them, how have they stayed out of Andoran prisons, etc. Basically, what's their story?
increddibelly |
Hmm, I didn't know that spell. But since it's available to pretty much any 3rd level caster, Tiadora will know the right person in the Cardinal's household to speak to.
You'd have to pay the cost difference between a normal item and the equivalent masterwork item (typically 300 gp for a weapon, 150 gp for armor, or 50 gp for a tool)
increddibelly |
P.S. What happened to that window we never used?
I'm pretty sure you didn't give it back and I'm very sure no one asked for it.
The veil was a tool to get you here, and it has served its purpose. If anything is left on it, it's all the more proof that your group was the right choice, and you've earned it.increddibelly |

Done with gear purchases/updates. I have a link to everything in my profile.
Only unusual items I took were cold iron and alchemical silver daggers and wrist sheaths for them. Also got some grappling arrows.
Spent 436 gp total. Only remaining items from the prison are the trident and arrows.
