Zeriax grits his teeth and lets fly two arrows at the mongrleman Oriana is trying to reach behind the barricade.

Flurry 1 at G34: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 7
Flurry 2 at G34: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 7

Maybe at least one of those will hit ;)

GM stuff:

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 fort save

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21 AOO
1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

In a rush of adrenaline, arrows fly, blades slash through sinew, spells rend the senses, and clubs cause internal bleeding. The almost slow drawn out affair of combat a few seconds ago is no more as it descends into a blood bath. Ryu continues stabbing into his foe damaging him again but failing to do enough damage to drop him. Pakak casts a spell that damages the mongrel man but does not get past his iron constitution. Zeriax takes a couple of shots at the crossbow wielder and hits once hard. Oriana tries to follow this up as she backs up and takes a running start to hurdle the barricade. She makes the jump successfully but leaves herself open to the mongrel man beside her and takes 4 damage as he connects with his club. After hurdling the barricade the awaiting mongrelman is no match for the magical morning star and falls after receiving a blow to his head. Maelchar tries to avenge his sister but just misses. The attack leaves SirGarith open to side step to a better position where he hits twice dropping him only by the aid of Pakak and his magical damage. The last mongrelman looks like he is ready to strike Ryu after being hit twice but ehn Anevia steps up in the gap left and places a single arrow into his heart. In a matter of seconds the combat is over and the only sound is the quick breathing of the victorious and the occasional drop of blood hitting the floor from where it splattered on the walls and barricade.

Wow, nice job all. After not much for rolls earlier, 80% hit now. Combat is over and you find 3 padded armors, 3 clubs, 1 lt crossbow and 9 bolts.

Well I must say that is more like it. that is what I was expecting when I hired you.

Horgus looks quite impressed with your sudden combat prowess. He cant even think of anything negative to say which is something for him.

Ryu turns to Horgus and gives him an almost involuntary bow without even thinking.

Standing erect he moves forward to examine the rest of the tunnel.

If the enemy has crouched behind so many defenses, it's clear that they're trying to defend something.

But as for what that is, he cannot say.

Leaving the gear for his companions to deal with, he glances around to see if the others are okay.

Realizing that the healers can take of that, though, he advances quickly to explore down the tunnel.

Ryu will move down the tunnel and try to see what else is going on.

Ryu turns from his advance and looks at Pakak.

"Yeah; so maybe you ought to stick to using some cold, hard steel, eh?" he says with a grunt.

"It's barely noon; and we got a long way before we all crash out. That said, I don't think sacking out's a good plan until we see what's down the tunnel there."

"'side's - what are you worried about, chief? You got Shieldback-san to get your back," he adds with a wink at his stoneskin.

Zeriax watches in appreciation as the group falls into battle mode, much like they did before, and quickly overturns the tide of combat, bringing it to a sudden, victorious end.

He offers a complimment to Anevia standing close to him - "Well done Miss"

Don't think anyone ever told Zeriax her name :D

The monk raises an eyebrow at Horgus's comment, but offers no comment as he approaches his companions in the room ahead - "Bravely fought friends" - he offers as he moves towards Oriana - "That was a courageous, albeit risky move" - he comments with a serious tone - "It was effective though"

"You are gravely wounded - let me help you" - the monk uses the healing power of the scale on Oriana.

[dice=Scale CMW]2d8+10 <- BOOM!

Oriana stood behind the barricade, wavering on her feet, bloodied and bruised. They had defeated the mongrelmen laying in wait in this cavern, which was good. Still, they would be elsewhere waiting to strike.

Her jump over the barricade had been a spur of the moment tactic for she knew the one with the crossbow had to be taken out as he had cover and the advantage of ranged attack. Even with his club's blow to her side, she managed to strike and fell him. She had noticed an arrow flying past which did hit the creature moments before she jumped the barricade.

As Zeriax approached, and offered his encouragement of their efforts, Oriana bowed her head (she had previously heard the nobleman, Horgus, and wondered if he knew how hard it was to keep fighting at this intensity and frequency, underground, with limited healing. She held her tongue for she knew the man's fickle temper). "I thank you, Zeriax, for your well timed and placed arrow. It allowed me opportunity to finish him off."

When he offered to heal her with the scale, she was silently grateful for she was extensively hurt and would not survive a similar encounter in the near future without magical healing.

She felt the dragon scale's power move through her body, knitting the wounds, and soon enough she instantly felt whole and able. "Your healing has revived my body and spirit, monk. Thank you. May Iomedae bless you."

Oriana unwound the bandage on her arm and saw that the dire rat's bite mark was no longer visible, the skin smooth again, and she folded the tourniquet and put it in her pack (it made no sense to throw away limited bandages).

She wiped her bloodied morningstar on the tunic of the dead mongrelman at her feet, collected the creature's padded armour, club, crossbow and bolts, and she looked about the cave, taking a few steps toward the rest of her companions, attempting to discern the presence of any magical auras in the space. Detect Magic.

Oriana is back to full hp! Nicely done, Zeriax! :)

Ryu all you can see is a rusty iron door to the east.

DM Variel wrote:
Ryu all you can see is a rusty iron door to the east.

Ryu will report the news of the door to his companions.

Does the door open toward us, or away from us. In other words, can we bolt the door from our side for safety, or does it lock on the other side from us?

He moves back and squats down on his haunches looking at the corpses after he lets the others know about the door.

He reflects about the door for a moment and tries to think if he can be any use at opening a potentially locked or trapped door.

He considers his various jobs before this adventure. After he left his father's house and journeyed to these lands he had served as a mercenary, gladiator, reaver, spy, pirate, bounty-hunter, guide, guard, assassin, body-guard and outrider...

A fairly ordinary life, true... but for all of that, I'm still not skilled as a locksmith and damned if I know what a trap even looks like...

He does what he can to clear his mind of the pain in his leg, but says nothing more on the subject as the others make their plans.

Current HP: 14/22

As he waits he glances toward the corpse of the mongrel man who had smashed his knee and spits deftly at its glassy eyes.

Than he waits for the others to something with the information he provided.

Ryu, Mael and Oriana only have one healing spell each remaining for the day and we decided as a group earlier on to try and retain those spells for as long as possible and use the potions. If you require healing, then go to the loot bag and grab yourself a CLW potion. Just a suggestion.

The door opens outward but can be barred from the inside where you all reside currently. There is no real lock on the door or way to keep it closed other than its ability to be barred.

Ryu ponders the current situation; specifically the damage his companions have endured and their status.

Though he had lightly brushed off Pakak's words about his sorcery, he knew that his brother's point was valid.

His eyes flick over to the corpses of the dead and he appraises them casually.

Maybe two-hundred pounds each...

While he waits for his companions to decide what to do, he grabs the corpses by their heels and drags them to the door and heaps them in front of it, to prevent it from opening.

With the ladder hauled up behind us and the door barred on this side, we may be safe to rest here for awhile, if they need it...

As he works he considers the healing potions and grins dryly.

A bloody healing potion? Where's your cajones, boy! You're a gods-damned man; you don't need no stinkin' potion!

He grunts as he heaps the bodies down against the door.

Well, at least... not yet...

Pakak notes Ryu's wounds, and his actions, "I fear we tax our reserves, my magic is a small thing, but healing magics dwindle and we should consider restoring ourselves. Let us secure this place and rest here for now." Pakak begins to help his claykin

Pakak wrote:

Ryu nods to Pakak as they work.

His eyes continually flick between the door and small barricade put in front of it.

”You know,” he says as he drags another carcass to the door ”When I saw them barricades I was all like – Smart little basterds; they got cover posts outside the doors to protect them from any that try to get through... he adds leaning back and stretching his back.

He looks at the door a bit more.

”Now maybe I’m all like – No way…”

”Maybe they got these things here in case a lad smashes through that door there,” he says jerking his thumb at the door.

”Maybe if someone busts the braces at the door and charges in this way, they can leave a few archers here to cover the escape of the others.”

”That means everything we’ve pushed through is to protect against what’s toward the east, which makes sense as – so far – that’s where the enemy is; if we keep all heading east.”

He folds his heavy arms over his chest and leans back against the wall, thinking.

”If all them doors are to protect from out there, than that means that this part is kind of like a basecamp, savvy?”

”Maybe that means that maybe we’re close our objective.”

He studies Pakak for a bit.

”How ‘bout it, Stoneskin – you think maybe this place was to protect from what’s out there, rather than the other way around?”

Pakak is a dwarf who probably would know something about underground fortresses and design. I’m gabling a good knowledge check for this type of stuff may be able to solve it. I’m also gambling if all these barricades were to protect on what’s on the eastern side of the door, rather than the other way around, that maybe we’re really close.

I’m also gambling that those ropes, pulleys we saw earlier were possibly attached to buckets to an underground water supply so that any guards here would have access to fresh water. If that’s also correct that could mean that the little ooze we find was possibly left by the people who made the place earlier for the same purpose as before; cleaning the place of refuse, but only from guards that were posted here before, rather than made by who is living here now.

If it really is a basecamp, there may be a more mechanical/technical way of barring the door.

I don’t know if that information is really pertinent to anything, but it’s something to talk about while we wait.

Pakak wrote:

Ryu watches the dwarf's brow momentarily and grins, sensing his companion will solve the mystery soon.

If dwarf-kind made this place to protect from what's out there, there may be a way to bar the doors better than with just bodies. They may got a secret dwarf-word that seals the door, or bars it somehow a little better than corpses...

"If I'm right, it's possible that there's an underground water supply back there with the ropes, you know?"

"If that's the case, any noise we heard down there may have been an underground river or something."

He thinks for a bit, than looks up with a grin.

"I guess if it was an underground river, they could just piss down the shafts and let the flow of a river carry the refuse far from them. More likely it's a deep well or small underground lake... maybe."

"Or maybe not, you know?" he says with a casual shrug.

As he waits around, his eyes roam over the room, feeling a little bored.

"Say - once we get this door jammed up, we could leave them here that needs it. Than we swing back to the tunnels, you cast a Light spell on a rock, we toss it down one of the shafts. If things are ichi-ban, no worries! If not, I'll take a swing down the rope myself and see what I can see - you know, while the others rest," he adds as Pakak still considers options.

With the way the door is barred from this side it seems reasonable to extrapolate that this room is to protect from whatever is beyond the door. This is the first real iron door you have come across even if it is rusted a bit. That alone would indicate a higher level of caution by the makers of this place. What they are concerned about is beyond you at this time. It could be some denizen of the dark that preys on the mongrelmen, a passageway to another clan that has attacked before, or a shaft dropping all the way to the center of the earth causing those that fall to become incinerated before they make contact with the bottom.

As for pulling up the ladder in the previous room, it would not do much to deter someone as it is only 10 feet they need to get up. So far there are 3 areas of possible danger. The door in front of you and the two ropes going down that you saw before. One Zeriax is sure leads to an underground water supply but the other is quite a mystery.

Nice rolls Pakak. Hopefully this recap helps you. If not you can ask 1 more question regarding engineering of this place and I will try to answer it if appropriate.

Male Dwarf Wizard (Abjurer)-9 (Mythic Archmage 2)(Current HP 54/62)

"The iron door indicates that this room protects the next... whoever made this place was concerned about something there, what I do not know. Pulling the ladder may not deter anyone given the short distance. I would suspect one of the ropes leads to water, the other? Who knows. I am not sure we are up to exploring in our current state, but perhaps I underestimate our strength."

Thanks DM. I pretty much just said what you gave me :)

When Pakak notes that the door is likely protecting what is on the other side, Garith suggests "Perhaps it would be prudent to open this door, and see what is beyond it. If it is a dead end then we have not need of worry, and if it a monstrosity it is better to take it on our terms than in the night if it can get through our barricade."

Sir Garith Mordrand wrote:
"We can keep watch on the hole, but I'd rather not have the unknown at my back as well"

Ryu nods at Pakak’s assessment.

He turns a quick glance to Garith, looking at the heap of bodies they piled up and sighs somewhat melodramatically.

”Well Hells Bells, chief – wish you had said something earlier,” he says giving the holy knight a somewhat lopsided grin.

He thinks about things a bit.

”I don’t mind having a glance down the hall; but I wondered if the door may be trapped. Now, seeing that it’s meant to protect what’s out there, I’m not sure.”

”If this room's protection from “outside” that means that maybe outside the door is open space or another gate house. But I don't think these lads would trap the door leading to the next room, maybe... ah hell, who knows?”

He frowns a bit at the last thought about the guards waiting here.

”Something odd, though,” he says looking the corpses and frowning, thinking of the others they had slaughtered with practiced ease.

”In all the bodies we found, they didn’t have goods on them, did they? I mean food and all. We got some – they don’t.”

”That means that their foodstuffs are likely back at their main camp, maybe…”

He absently lifts the arm of one of the corpse with his toe, than lets the arm drop back to the ground.

”At some point these guards’ll like have relief come for them, or supplies brought to them, if these basterds don’t got any poxing food, or what passes for food for them.”

He glances at Garith.

”If we’re clever, we put a good guard on the door and leave it un-propped, maybe; when the next set of scum come’s up with foodstuff’s, we let ‘em in then knife ‘em quick and quiet-like.”

”We leave it propped like this and the next lad who comes up to check things over will see it’s barred and may run back to let his mates know what’s up.”

He gets a bit more comfortable, looking at Garith a bit.

”It’s your call, boss – scout ahead a bit, or not; before we sack out. But if we do bar it, than any the relief guard’s going to know what’s up when they try the door. And chances are there will be someone coming, due to the fact that these scum don't got any fresh supplies..."

"Still, if we put two lads on watch outside the door, they can ambush anyone who walks in.”

He grins suddenly.

"Damn, brother - that stream of thinking's like... all over the place," he says with low bass chuckle.

"Anyhow, it's stuff to think on, I guess, while we wait on the rest of them to say something."

He sighs a bit, stretching a little.

”As for me? I don’t care either way we do it. Thing is – now that everything’s knifed, I’m feeling kind of bored, is all.’

Moving again back towards the group, and away from the gore, he states plainly - "I believe a moment's rest is in order - no one will be able to come through this door without a lot of noise, so if we mount a watch by the stairs, we should be allowed some respite"

Seeing that the monk is trying to get to the door over the mound of corpses that they had deliberately propped against to prevent an enemy from entering, Ryu picks up and tosses the corpses past the monk's feet so that he was better able to lean against the door.

DM, Oriana cast Detect Magic yesterday to see if there were any magical auras/items in this space (apart from the mundane articles of clothing and weaponry we got off the three mongrelmen). Did she discover anything?

Oriana notes the smallest smile on the monk's face. "My brother would not have bestowed the healing scale unto you if he believed you were not up to the task, Zeriax. That you used it to heal me; I am most grateful."

"I am willing to go on or rest here. I will leave the decision to you, cousin", Oriana extended to Garith.

Having watched the monk, Zeriax, lean up against the door and declare he had heard nothing from the other side, Oriana moved forward to see if she could hear something through the barrier before Ryu returned the bodies against the rusted door.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

Ryu had the bodies propped against the door to barricade it.

Garith wanted to check what's on the other side of the door before it's formally barricaded and we sack out.

Ryu heard that request and moved the bodies out of the doorway for that purpose.

At this point Zeriax wanted to check to see if there was noise on the other side - he heard nothing.

But whether we camp here or not, Ryu is not planning on 're-proping' the door with the bodies at this time.

He believes that since the enemy we searched didn't have any food (I can't remember that point, I may be wrong), that at some point they'd need food and possibly a "relief guard".

He believes that if a "relief guard" guard came to the door and found it was locked, they would turn away and run off to warn the others. If the door was unbolted (like it was when we found it), they'd come in to relieve their friends/allies, and we could have someone on guard outside the door to sound the alarm (if someone tried coming in) and possibly ambush them.

That's all guesswork, but it's what he assumes could happen, and it's why he wasn't going to rebolt the door. He wasn't going to open it either, until hearing from Zeriax; but now he's waiting on Oriana's report as she has just made a check, too.

He doesn't really care what happens at this point, so long as everyone's happy with the decision. However, as it's still barely midday (I think), he may take some time to explore those shafts at some point, just to see what's down there while he waits for the others to rest.

But a lot of it will depend on what happens next.

To me it seems like they are blocking whatever is on the other side of that door from coming into the area we've been exploring. So I'd say barring that door and keeping watch over the Hole where the ladder was will be the way to deal with this situation if we rest.

Ryu, i don't think it would be a good idea to go off alone as there'd be a solo combat bogging things down a lot more than resting. It seems that that is the slight preference, and we are in a pretty good spot to rest, with a barred door at our backs and a hole as the only entrance.

"Well, it seems as though it may be best to wait here for a while as to regain our strength and magics. I have some healing that I can perform, should we need more."

Loh for Garith: 1d6 ⇒ 4

Ryu, if you need any HP to get to 20 then here's this and i have one more to burn too.
LoH for Ryu: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 5) = 6 if he needs it, and roll one more if you aren't at 20 yet (cause you get 2 for sleeping)

Ryu was only down 8 pts so getting the 6 back from Garith's LoH brings him up to 20/22.

Cool, so Watch shifts, We let Pakak sleep his solid 8 hours, and take last shift and he can prep spells. Garith can start followed by Mael, Oriana, Ryu, and Zeriax, each taking a 96 minute shift. and only need another hour and a half before we are all good to go.

”Thanks, boss,” he says to Garith after he was healed of the damage.

Hearing Garith’s request to stay put as a team and not to move off to do things alone, Ryu shrugs amicably and agrees.

However, he recommends that all the other ropes and chains in the shafts at least be pulled up a little so nothing trying to climb them (as I think there were other shafts with chains down them).

Meanwhile, since the others have decided to bar the door from any troubles he decides to sleep closer to the ladder, in case a threat tries to come up the ladder.

For the rest of the day he’s fairly restless, so to kill time when he’s not on watch and when he’s not sleeping, he’ll merely practice weapon kata’s.

Ryu’s cool with the watch order.

I guess with a full night's sleep I'd be up to 22 HP in the morning -provided nothing happens.

Waiting on the results of Oriana's perception check and previous detect magic ... Both of which she will disclose before the following actions are taken.

Hearing Garith's watch order, Oriana nods her head in assent and moves to where their charges are congregated and resting. She sets her bedroll on the floor close by in order to protect them in case of attack.

Oriana closes her eyes to sleep until it is her turn to take watch (or something else wakes her).

Since his watch is second, Mael sets up his bedroll on the opposite side of the charges from Oriana. He gives his sister a broad smile and settles down with the charges between the two of them for protection. "Rest well, Ori... perhaps we'll reach the surface tomorrow."

Across the short space, Oriana smiles at Maelchar in return. Her voice is low when she speaks.

"You too, brother. It will be good to feel the sunlight on my face once more. I do wonder, however, what we will be returning to. May Iomedae watch over us and those above." Oriana silently contemplated So'rien and their parents and the dream summons which drove him to leave her side and return to the surface.

Oriana you don't detect anything magical among the recently acquired gear from the mongrelmen. As for listening at the door there is a slight sound of something wet sliding around at irregular intervals.

A little retcon. This occurred before Oriana moved closer to the charges and set up her bedroll and spoke with Maelchar.

She drew back from the door quietly, and motioned for any of her allies close by to do the same.

In lowered voice, Oriana advised the group of what she had heard, looking to Garith in main, "I managed to catch the sound of something wet sliding about at irregular intervals."

Ryu pauses from his kata and Oriana's comment.

He nods at her words, as a sudden guess popped into his head at what it could be.

"Maybe that little slimer we saw earlier has little brother outside the door munching stuff down - like this - slurp-slurp-slurp? What do you think, Angel?" he says, making a face as he tries to mime a little slime moving around, still grinning a little at the idea.

Supremely curious, he does not touch the door since Garith had given orders to not open the door. Therefore, he won't open it.

Still, he looks at the others with an eager expression.

"Anybody know about underground stuff - like oozes and things that go squish?" he says asking the group as he starts to lift his blade and go back to practicing his forms.

A little more retcon.

Still in low voice, "It wouldn't surprise me if the earlier creature had a brother or sister roaming these caves and pits." Oriana tilted her head, watching Ryu's animated face and mime.

"Unfortunately, I have no knowledge of such underground creatures at this time. Pakak, may."

Oriana Zeru wrote:

Ryu grins.

”You know – if I was a magi like my Stoneskin there, I think it’d be bichin’ to have one of those little slimers oozing around helping clean up any messes.”

”He’d all be scooting around to lend a hand and slurping things up.”

He pauses a bit, thinking.

”I wonder what’d have to live in, though? I mean, it couldn’t be all living in a pouch, or resting on my shoulder… Maybe it’d live in a little glass bottle?”

He smiles, looking at Oriana directly.

”That’d be sweet, neh Angel? You got little Slimer in a tiny glass bottle, an enemy come charging you and you toss the bottle in his poxing face and suddenly – bamf! The bottle explodes like you’re a sodding ninja tossing down smoke bombs!”

”Meantime the bastered who charged you is all being slurped on by the little slime-guy and screaming up a storm until it opens up his throat and than it’s all nothing but… well, you know,” he says with a wide grin, but he’s sincere in his enthusiasm.

He brushes a lock of damp hair from his face and sighs a little wistfully at the thought of having some guy following him around.

Ryu rolls his shoulders a bit, thinking.

"Yeah, he's pretty handy in the caves. Put him on a ship, that'd be a different story, though. But he's all good in caves, though."

When it is time to rest, Pakak shuffles his familiar under his head, and uses Shieldback as a pillow. It seems to work for both of them.

Ryu sees Pakak use Shieldback as a pillow and stifles a horrified gasp.

Damn, Stonekin's going to get his little buddy's shell all scuffed up... Oh well, nothing a little Turtle Wax can't buff out...

Nodding sagely to himself at that thought, he stares at Pakak trying to rest and grunts a bit, nudging the dwarf with the toe of his sandal.

"Hey - Stoneskin - don't be sleeping so early - we all kind of want to know what you may know on little beasties that hang out in dungeons."

"Didn't you hear Ri and Angel's report on the door? Said they hear all this wet slipping and sliding outside the door - what'd you make of it, Stoneskin?" he asks the dwarf.

Meh; wondering if Pakak's able to make a Know. Dungeoneering check on the little noises outside the door. Failing that, he'll see if Garith will actually try to the door and peak outside to see what's up before sacking out.

Also, it occurs to me that Ryu hasn't given a nifty name to Zeriax; for now, he'll go with Ri; mainly because he already calls Oriana "Angel" and if he calls Oriana Ri, that would seem confusing as that's what he's calling Zeriax for some reason...

So from Ryu he wants to be closer to the ladder area, Oriana and Maelchar are on opposite sides of the charges away from the doorway a bit. Saving a roll for Pakak as without seeing what is causing the noise it could be anything he wants to dream up.

GM stuff:

1d6 ⇒ 6 who is on watch...Pakak it is
1d3 ⇒ 2which half hour it occurs as if in the third Pakak will have his spells available...no new spells.

perception check vs stealth check
2d20 + 3 ⇒ (2, 5) + 3 = 10

stealth 3d20 ⇒ (15, 3, 4) = 22 +13 each
2d20 + 8 ⇒ (3, 10) + 8 = 21
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20

Ryu 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Maelchar 1d20 ⇒ 1
Pakak 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
So'rien 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Oriana 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Sir Garith 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15

1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

As the party rests or takes their turn on watch the monotony grows as there is no sound other than the soft snores of Horgus or your own footsteps as you walk from one side to the other listening at the doorway and by the ladder. Just as the rest time comes to a close and Pakak is looking at his spellbook to replenish his spells for the coming day, your worst fear came true. Glancing up from his book Pakak is surprised to see a mongrelman at the top of the hole lowering the ladder that was hauled up. Before he even has a chance to shout out a stream of 5 other people come clambering up the ladder. The lead Mongrelman, finished with lowering the ladder, draws his club as he rushes over to Pakak trying to club him down. The inept mongrelman can't even hit a surprised unarmored dwarf as the club hits the floor in front of Pakak. (rolled a total of 9 on the to hit...grrr...) The other mongrel man draws his club once he is finally free from climbing. The others, highlighted on the map, could not draw their weapons as they had just climbed out.

Of the foes you see, the lead mongrelmen are equipped as normal with their clubs and padded armor. The last mongrelman has a light crossbow. The next two creatures have tiny horns and a barbed tail revealing it non human nature. Those with angelic blood running through their bodies feel al sense of loathing after you wake up and see them. Each of them have studded leather armors, light crossbows and rapiers hang at their hips. The last creature is a decent looking woman with a glaive and chain shirt. She does not appear to have any ranged weapons on her.

Surprise round and GM turn 1 done. Party turn 1

Don't forger everyone was asleep but Pakak so prone on the ground withour wearing medium armor. Those that had light armor originally before upgrading would still have them with them and would wear them at night as their is no penalty for doing so. All of you awake after hearing the sounds of combat 10 feet away.

To be fair, he was with his familiar which gave him an AC bonus, so we can thank turtle power for the save if it helps the bad guy's ego :)

Pakak weaves out of the way, as Shieldback leans against him as if to say 'go get them, boss'.
