Looks like X:14 is clear so i'll go there
Garith rushes in to put down the creature
Stab: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Ryu Tadamasa |

Ryu and sir Garith run to the aid of Oriana. Both of them manage to get themselves into position to strike t the best drawing blood. The damage dealt just seems to make the lizard more frenzied however.
Pakak and Zeriax up still.
Can we get a better idea of what it is at this point other than just a lizard? I mean, is there an Aura coming off of it, does it look like a natural animal, or magic monster - that sort of thing...

Oriana Zeru |

In case we need to roll, to figure this creature out ...
Know. Nature re Giant Lizard creature: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Know. Planes re Giant Lizard creature: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27

Zeriax |

Apologies for the absence of posts people - thread was not updating for me :/
Knowledge (Dungeoneering?) to try and recognize the creature: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Not sure of which squares allow me line of sight, but Zeriax will move to Y11 (Maelchar has left that spot correct?), and fire at the Lizard:
Longbow Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 4

Maelchar |

yes, maelchar moved to x13, which gives the creature cover from you this round, but he'll be moving again next time. his next move willbe to w17, which will put him in flank, critter will get an aoo on him though and another attack, which I'll roll for now, because I will be on the road all day today and won't be able to roll.
to hit: 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 1 + 2 = 21
dmg: 3d6 + 1 ⇒ (1, 4, 3) + 1 = 9

DM Variel |

Zeriax, with a knowledge dungeoneering check, identifies this lizard as a species of underground monitor lizard. They have a viscous bite that also exudes a poison slowing the reflexes of those bitten until they are paralyzed.
Horgus moves up with Zeriax to stand next to him and Pakak for safety Zeriax lets go with an arrow shot that misses the lizard.
Garith/Ryu 1d2 ⇒ 1
attack 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
damage 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
grapple 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27
Turning away from Oriana to one of those that hit him last he targets Sir Garith. Whipping his head round the lizard catches him off guard band grabs a hold of him around the arm.
Sir Garith you are hit for 10 damage, grappled, and need a fort save bs poison.
Maelchar moves into position behind Ryu to strike at the lizard. Even with the cover provided by Ryu the blow still lands on the body of the lizard. It hisses at you but does not let go of Sir Garith.

Oriana Zeru |

Assuming Zeriax has relayed the information to all regarding what this creature is...
Seeing her kinsman, Garith, in the maw of the giant monitor lizard, Oriana immediately strikes at the creature with her magical morningstar (fighting defensively), hoping to make it open its jaw and release her cousin's arm.
Attack with +1 morningstar: 1d20 + 5 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 5 + 2 - 4 = 19 (+2 flanking with Ryu & Mael, -4 Fighting Defensively)
Damage, if hits: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
HP: 12/19
AC: 18 until the start of her next turn.
I need a clarification, please. We were given 6 CLW potions earlier, are we each carrying one on our person? I presume we are rather than in a bag hauled by one person.

![]() |

fort: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
With the creature latched onto him, Garith's actions are hampered, but he is able to maneuver his shortsword adn bring the small blade to bear
1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 5 - 2 = 10 grapple
for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Ryu can get behind the lizard and flank for Garith next round while Mal threatens and flanks for Oriana, right GM?

Zeriax |

Correct Oriana, Zeriax would convey the information about the lizard to the group. I am not sure I will be able to hit anything from here - the lizard has got too much cover. But still:
Zeriax fires another two arrows at the lizard.
Flurry 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 1
Flurry 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 1

Ryu Tadamasa |

So if I take a step to V:16 I flank with Garith and Mal still flanks with Oriana thanks to reach? Okay, sounds good -
Attack to creature with flanking -
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
If it hits -
1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Edit: Crap, I think that misses. Okay, I got to go - late for work and i won't be back until later tonight. See you than!

Zeriax |

Speaking for the first time, since they engaged in combat, Zeriax moves into the room, silently approaching, and peeking through the open door - "Well done friends"
I believe that the door where the lizard came from was open?
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20

"Ugh, cousins, I believe that I may benefit from your healing touch. Iomadae has sen fit to bless me with some, but as of now, I am afraid that it will not heal my arm fully..."
If i could get a cure Light from either of you, i can pick up some of the slack with an LoH or two after. Or a potion, if you would rather conserve spells. We prolly got a REALLY long day ahead of us and i don't want to deplete our stores too early

![]() |

"Aye, master Pakak. Is anyone coming?" garith asks Zeriax at the doorway.
If there isn't an imediate threat, Garith will return to the fromt and lay out the bodies of the mongrelmen and remove their gear so we can search the bodies and see what they have.

DM Variel |

Sir Gartih you pass the poison save.
Looking in to the opened doorway you see a rack of hooks hangs from the ceiling, cured slabs of meat dangling from them and filling the room with a smoky aroma. A group of barrels appears to hold other preserved foodstuffs. The food in here while not rancid would only be used as a last resort.
Pakak and zeriax you don't notice anyone else approaching although the other two doors remained closed.

Oriana Zeru |

"Ugh, cousins, I believe that I may benefit from your healing touch. Iomedae has seen fit to bless me with some, but as of now, I am afraid that it will not heal my arm fully..."
In quiet voice, Oriana responds to Garith,
"Cousin, as the day has only begun and we may encounter more creatures and engage in drawn battles, I would suggest we conserve our spells as best as we can. I am injured and will drink my healing potion. I advise you to do the same."
Drawing the vial from the pouch at her waist, Oriana unstops it and downs the liquid.
CLW potion: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Oriana is back up to full HP 19/19.
Oriana has two 1st level spells remaining for the day.
Oriana looks about the space with a critical eye.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Looking across to Zeriax, she speaks as quietly, "Well placed shot. Perhaps you should see if you can retrieve some of your arrows before we move onward. The day is still ahead of us."

Zeriax |

Zeriax nods to Oriana - "You are correct. This room seems empty" - he motions for the room he had been observing, while he moves about the rest of the area, trying to recover some of the used arrows.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17

Zeriax |

During his search, hearing Garith's words and noticing his wounds, Zeriax approaches him - "If you would allow, I believe this can be of assistance" - and offers to heal him.
Scale CMW: 2d8 + 10 ⇒ (1, 6) + 10 = 17
BOOM!!! :D

Oriana Zeru |

Good job, Zeriax. Garith is back to full HP now.
DM, does that mean Zeriax can only use the healing scale one more time today? First So'rien used it on their united cut palms in the morning (so he could transfer the scale's power to Zeriax) and then Zeriax used it on Garith.

Zeriax |

I remember one day looking at a Zen Archer and thinking "WOW... If only he could heal himself"... And now SHAZAM! :D

DM Variel |

Yeah Zeriax you got lucky with the scale. It was not even in the AP but needed to add something so each player got a scale. It was that one and the darkvision scale which ended up on the only member that can't see in the dark. Ironic
Oriana and Zeriax you take a look around and find 1d4 ⇒ 1 arrows that can be reused. The rest of the chamber seems sparse as it looks like it was just for sleeping quarters.
map thus far positions by people are not true just there to have them on the map

Oriana Zeru |

Oriana wasn't looking for arrows, but scanning for anything of interest or of note. But no worries...
Realising how low on arrows their archer was currently, Oriana pulled 10 common arrows from her quiver and handed them to the monk. "You will need them more than I."
Oriana's arrow supply is now 10 common arrows, 1 raining arrow. Total 11 arrows. Zeriax's arrows increase by 11 (including the one intact one he found).

Zeriax |

Zeriax bows shortly - "Thank you, I will put them to good use"
Zeriax now back up to 23 arrows - thanks Oriana ;)
Besides having checked for sounds or signs of movement from the adjacent rooms, the monk also tries to look for discernible tracks that can give them clues as to what they are up against.
Survival: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
Afterwards, he goes to check each individual door.
If allowed time by his companions, he will take 20 on each Perception roll to check for traps. If not:
Perception door to the North: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Perception door to the East: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
I believe Garith was searching for valuables in the mongrelmen gear - anything interesting? Like astoundingly magical arrows? :D

Zeriax |

Zeriax informs the rest of his companions of the details, and awaits a decision on how the group will proceed.

Maelchar |

Maelchar shrugs, uncertain. "As Pakak says, might as well just pick one at random, since we have no idea which way might lead out of here."

Oriana Zeru |

Since it seemed Ryu Tadamasa had chosen which door they would investigate and travel through, Oriana drew her magical morningstar and followed quietly and keenly behind him toward the northern door.

DM Variel |

The worked stone walls of this large room hold a number of shelves, each of which display the preserved bodies of dire rats, rock vipers, cave lizards and other creatures that pose in eerie stillness. A set of three bedrolls have been laid out to the southeast. To the east a door can be seen while to the north it appears to be a rope ladder leading upwards.
As Ryu opens the door three figures can be seen with weapons raised. Two appear to be wielding glaives while the third is holding a scythe. The all are wearing good quality chain shirts. Looking at you all they start to each chant spells.
init
Ryu 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Maelchar 1d20 ⇒ 19
Pakak 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
So'rien 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Oriana 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Sir Garith 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Bad guys first Round 1...
The three men all cease their chanting and advance on Ryu at the opening of the doorway. They stop just short though beckoning you forward with a malicious smile.
Good guys up...

![]() |

Well, This is going to be incredibly painful considering we likely have to deal with 5 attacks (3 readied actions and two AoO's) when entering the door. so strategy???
--I'll use Bastion of Good from where Ryu is at standing at R:18 against one of the Glaive users to his attacks will deal half damage to everyone except me.
--Mael can attack from the doorway to hopefully draw the Glaive attacks.
--Ryu's likely got the best chance of surviving if he rages for Con or is allowed to use normal rage cause controlled rage says he May???
So he draws the AoO from the Galives and the readied attack from Scythe, then the others can file in?
--Ria can mov to P:19 and take the right Glaive cause i'm going to bastion the left one
--They have some kind of spells going on to make this worse on us...
Now would be a good time for an SM 3 on Aravashinal's art perhaps? Maybe an SM 2
Any Thoughts?

Pakak |

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
"They cast protective wards, meant to hinder the pure of heart. Abjuration twisted to dark ends," Pakak seems offended.
He also moves forward, chanting his own spell... and touching his Claykin on the back.
Protection from Evil on Ryu

![]() |

Oh, well in that case, Garith demands, "Do your worst, Curs!" Advancing on the enemy P:18, taking AoO's from the Glaives and taking a slash with his scimitar at the one on the left.
Slash: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Sorry, going to be taking the front spot so to advance yea'll need to take an AoO from Scythe, but those hits are kind of going to hurt more than a little
If he gets hit hard, i may have him drop the scimitar as a free action to LoH, but i'll do that after the AoO's if that's cool

Maelchar |

Maelchar moves up behind Garith and swings his hammer at the center opponent.
to hit: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
dmg if hits: 3d6 + 1 ⇒ (6, 1, 4) + 1 = 12
crap, sorry I missed this time

Ryu Tadamasa |

"Oops... wrong door," he says quickly shutting the door in their face.
Well, that was my plan; but instead...
Seeing his companions advance at the beast in the middle, Ryu will move to P:17 and attack the enemy at O:17 and endure any AoO's.
"Let's do this, biches!" he growls out.
Attack with rapier -
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
If it hits
1d6 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 2 = 9

DM Variel |

2d20 ⇒ (8, 4) = 12 +5
2d10 ⇒ (1, 6) = 7 +3
The two glaives swing at you in perfect unison only to hit each other 2 feet in front of Sir Garith. In return Sir Garith strikes hard against the foe on the left.
Maelchar steps up and tries to use his reach against them but fails to connect.
Ryu (raging?) hurries on in stabbing with the rapier and dropping the one Garith hit with a well placed attack.
I get a 4 and 8 on attacks and you guys are in the 20's with max damage. I think the forum is lulling you all into overconfidence.

![]() |

Var, i got a threat with tat attack, forgot that Scimitar is 18-20, so here's my confirmation
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Zeriax |

I think that one is already dead Garith :D
Zeriax repositions himself, and fires an arrow at the enemy in sight - "Press on friends" - he urges his companions as they assault.
Moving to S18, and firing an arrow at the one in O18
Bow Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 6
No lulling on my end :D

Oriana Zeru |

Upon hearing Patak declare the three had warded themselves against good, Oriana casts Protection from Evil on herself (spell-like ability, 1/day, standard action, lasts 2 minutes) and then moves forward to P:18, magical morningstar ready to strike at the enemy with the glaive at O:19 at the next opportunity, as directed by her kinsman, Garith.
She can't hit until next round.
btw Ryu, you didn't confirm your crit with your rapier (you got a nat 20 on your hit).

Ryu Tadamasa |

Yes, I hadn't noticed it and my internet was cutting in and out. When I looked again, I observed that the GM ruled we had killed the guy on the left, so I didn't bother to confirm it.
However; if Garith's blow confirms (it seems to have) and his blow killed the creature on the left before I swung my sword, I would have gone for the next guy over (in this case, the guy in the middle, I guess). I'm sure the 20 hit him; I don't know if it would confirm, though.
All of this assumes that the GM will not only allow Garith to finish it with his hit, but let my second action attack the guy in the middle.
Assuming he does:
Confirm to hit -
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
If it hits -
1d6 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 1 + 2 = 8
