Confirmed

I would guess that everyone who fails the fall-asleep roll still gets a save against unconsciousness each round

You are correct.

Male Dragonborn Paladin, Level 4

Ddraig steps forward to R9 and, as his head begins to fog, growls "Your evil magic will not subdue me for long..."

http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1916342/ - Save against sleep (1d20=15)

Back to Nechtan, who's dazed and needs to make a save.

The oni raises an eyebrow and his lips form into a sneer, "You still stand? Perhaps you are worthy foes after all."

Male Human Ranger 3

"Best defense is geen yeh a gud kickin'!", Nechtan exclaims, hurling his axe at the oni.

Basic Ranged Attack + Hunter's Quarry (1d20+7=17, 1d6+4=8, 1d8=6)

Save (1d20=2)

Nechtan then falls into a stupor.

The axe sails past the hideous fiend as he laughs at the little ranger. "Such bravado!"

With that it slowly levitates off the ground.

"But ultimately futile..."

And proceeds to fly away to the north, giving the dragonborn the opportunity to slash an ankle.

OA from Ddraig hits for 10 damage to the Oni. Sigh. The oni is now ariborne right on top of the letters Z and AA! Pat's travelling and Darvyl needs to make a save - hope you don't mind, Pat! i rolled a 7, sorry.

Darvyl continues to doze.

Ynyr's turn.
>>>>MAP<<<<

Male Human Atrificer/3

Ynyr moves to S9.

"Now why is it you are running away, tell me? You just come back here and fight, will you?"

Throwing his dagger in a seemingly futile gesture he tries once more to connect with the evil oni.

Magic weapon against Oni. (at long range). (1d20+7=26, 1d4+4=5)

It may only be a graze, but Ynyr feel vindicated to have made contact at all.

Assuming it makes any difference, Ddraig and Nechtan get a +1 power bonus to their next attack roll before the end of Ynyr's next turn.

Male Human Ranger 3

Unfortunately, Nechtan is snoring right now.

Sorry for lack of updates - at work yesterday and today. Ynyr hit though. It is Healaugh's turn.

Ynyr's magic dagger grazes the oni, who growls as he flies away.

Male Halfling Bard 4

"Llawela"

Healaugh croons gently to his cherished javelin, takes aim and hurls it after the retreating monster. As the weapon returns to his hand, he calls out.

"Happen we'll be meeting again old 'un. Best have reminder."

Javelin chuck at Oni (lightning damage) (1d20 4=22, 1d6 4=9)

You hit.

The power of Lady Luck is with the halfling as the javelin arcs towards the oni.

Greylan runs up to the group, "Oh dear, this looks bad, this would be the hypnotic breath then?"

Ddraig's turn.

Male Halfling Bard 4

"Most like."

With another muttered word, Healaugh deactivates the lightning power of his javelin.

Where is the flying sleepy-breathed one now? If he's still attackable, he'll keep doing so. If not, he'll go and start waking up the snoring buddy pile.

It's Ddraig's turn. You're still in combat until you delcare that you're not pursuing him. It's not the oni's turn yet.

Male Dragonborn Paladin, Level 4

Ddraig, dropping his sword, grabs a javelin from his pack and hurls it at the cowardly, fleeing oni

Basic ranged attack: attack - 1d20+7; damage - 1d6+4

Rolls: 19+7=26 v AC; 3+4=7 damage

"Such is the fate that befalls cowards; they flee in the face of the righteous!" roared Ddraig.

Eesh, you're all hitting him. And I was worried he'd be too tough. Nechtan's turn.

The remaining conscious party members pelt the oni with their missiles.

Male Human Ranger 3

Save (1d20=6)
Snore on, young Nechtan.

The oni is now off the map, and cannot be seen. I'm going to rule you're out of combat now. If you do so, and we assume that everyone asleep eventually makes their dave, I will take that as a short rest (everyone can use healing surges, encounter powers recharge etc).

Under the friends' assault, the frightful creature swoops down behind some woods and now cannot be seen by your group.

Male Human Fighter 3

Go ahead, make my dave.

Darvyl recovers consciousness and looks about. "No dead oni, I see -- sorry I wasn't more help."

Ha, completely missed my typo! Are you lot continuing this encounter, or will you take a rest?

Male Halfling Bard 4

Healaugh considers the options and looks around at those of his friends who are still awake.

"Grand noise our lads can make," he remarks as the rhythmic snores of Darvyl and Nechtan fill the night air.

"Reet. Follow old 'un now or wake lads and get them back in fighting trim? Not so sure I fancy chances without bit more muscle on hand. No disrespect to you, Ddraig," he adds to the mountainous dragonborn.

Darvyl, "Hey, Heauagh, I'm awake and right here. He didn't lay a paw on me."

Male Human Ranger 3

Snorfle!..smek, smek, smek

save (1d20=12)

Nechtan looks around bleary-eyed.

"Whersa bigun?"

Male Halfling Bard 4

"Happen Nechtan's making noise enough for two then," says Healaugh peaceably.

"What dost reckon? Follow owd flying besom or rouse young Nechtan first? Best be making minds up."

Oops. Posted at the same time as Nechtan.

Male Human Atrificer/3

"I would say that we follow, but, how can we follow when we can't hardly see where we have been? Do you see what I mean?"

Ynyr slumps dejectedly to the ground and sits there looking none too happy.

"That won't make much of a tale to tell any loved ones, now will it?", he mutters.

"The man makes sense. Let's find a decent campsite, then try to track the villagers in the morning when we can see our own feet."

The eerie song of sadness continues still.

Male Halfling Bard 4

"None so sure how much rest we'll be getting with mournful music calling to us all night. Tha's reet about light though. Greylan - canst conjure owt useful?"

"Well, yes, but I'm not sure it will make much difference, considering we already have your lantern."

He snaps his fingers and the top of his staff gives off a warm glow that illuminates the area around him.

"So, what's the plan? Do we leave this creepy place for the night and rest up whilst trying to not turn into muso-zombies, or do we get ourselves sorted out now and try to get to the bottom of things tonight?"

Male Human Ranger 3

Nechtan plunges into the thicket, and returns shortly with his magical handaxe.

"Right. Ready to go."

Action Point gained?

Male Halfling Bard 4

"I sees sense in caution mind, but heart's not easy leaving innocents for night while we rest up. Don't seem right."

He looks at the rest of the party.

"Not sure I can be resting well when there's villagers trapped like."

In game terms are you all taking a short rest? If so, then yes, 1 action point each, encounter powers recharge, use as many healing surges as you like.

Yes!

Just checking. ;)

The friends regain their senses and clear their heads.

Healaugh, Ynyr, Nechtan, Greylan

Spoiler:
Whether through keen senses or a knowledge of the natural world, the four of you realise that the song is having an effect on you, and that you are very close to its source. All of you in the group find yourselves slowly walking to the north, around the trees. Darvyl and Ddraig don't appear to have noticed. In game terms you are at -2 to defenses and are being pulled 6 squares to the source.

Male Halfling Bard 4

Fabes - just to clarify

Spoiler:

Do Healaugh, Ynyr, Nechtan and Greylan realise they're being beguiled again? If so, can they make a save since they've spotted it?

"Summat's up." Healaugh feels his feet moving involuntarily along a path he didn't choose.

Clarification

Spoiler:
It's a similar and related effect, but more localised. It's an aura with no save. If you start your turn in the aura, you are pulled. You four have Passive Perception or Nature skills high enough to notice the effect. My description of it at the moment is a bit looser than it would be if you were on a battlemap in combat. You can still move away, but every round you will be pulled 6 towards the source.

Male Human Ranger 3

FYI... Nechtan is down to his last Healing Surge.

Male Dragonborn Paladin, Level 4

Bending down to collect his sword, Ddraig said "I am not happy to allow the oni to escape, but see little alternative at the moment. We will meet him again, and when we do, we will kill him."

"Perhaps, instead, we should seek the origin of that mournful music."

Then, whilst the others consider their next moves, Ddraig performs his private sword cleansing ceremony.

FYI, it will be the case that, after every combat, Ddraig will cleanse his sword and, if appropriate, pray for the souls of the dead. I won't, therefore, repeat it ad nauseam, but just leave it as assumed.

Male Halfling Bard 4

"Step over here."

Healaugh moves south away from the source of the music and gestures to the others to join him.

Once away from the mystic drag on his feet, he tries to pinpoint the exact location of the source.

Nechtan

Spoiler:

If you're down to one healing surge, we probably should rest.

Healaugh

Spoiler:
It's an aura 30 effect, and you are still in it. Nearly all of the hill is encompassed in it.

Male Halfling Bard 4

Yippee.

You still haven't told Darvyl and Ddraig what's up.

Darvyl and Ddraig move northwards continually even as Healaugh tries to get everyone to move south.

Male Halfling Bard 4

"Darvyl, Ddraig - get off hill now. Tha's enspelled."

Healaugh continues his backward move away from the heartrending tug of the music.

Male Human Fighter 3

"Eh? Damn music, again, I suppose."

Darvyl attempts to follow Healaugh.

Male Human Ranger 3

Nechtan goes in front of Ddraig, and waves his arms as if he were trying to direct a herd of cows into a corral.

Male Dragonborn Paladin, Level 4

"Friend Nechtan, why do you wave your arms as if dispersing flies?" said Ddraig, pausing.

It is only at this point that Ddraig notices how far from the group he has been drawn, without his conscious knowledge.

"Nechtan, please accept my apologies and thanks. Why was I progressing up the hill?"

Male Halfling Bard 4

"Tha's entralled, tha gert numpty."

Greylan explains to Ddraig, "We all are, or at least some of us are trying to move away at the same time. Or something." the high elf flounders for an explanation that will make sense to the dragonborn before adding, "It's magic, dear boy."

"So," he says to the group at large, "Are we going to face the music (ha, face the music!) or are we going to move off the hill?"

Male Halfling Bard 4

Healaugh looks grim. "Aye. Facing music and ending it. Taking some precautions first. Bung up ears all of us."

DM

Spoiler:

If Healaugh plays his hurdy-gurdy, can he drown out the enchanting music or does it operate like a divine challenge and call in some way that just pulls us regardless?

Spoiler:
You can try. I make no promises.

Male Halfling Bard 4

The halfling outlines a potential plan. In groups of two, one tough guy and one squishy, they should circle the area. On a given signal, everyone bungs up their ears with cloth and Healaugh plays his hurdy-gurdy as loudly as possible to drown out the music.

Then the party advances on the source.

Even Healaugh, ever optimistic, admits that this is not the greatest plan in the world. But at the moment, it's the only one they've got.

"Ynyr and Ddraig, Darvyl and Greylan. I'll be stepping along with Nechtan seeings he's bonded to me," he concludes.
