Ddraig Goch |
Ddraig steps forward to R9 and, as his head begins to fog, growls "Your evil magic will not subdue me for long..."

Nechtan of the Krutne |
"Best defense is geen yeh a gud kickin'!", Nechtan exclaims, hurling his axe at the oni.
Basic Ranged Attack + Hunter's Quarry (1d20+7=17, 1d6+4=8, 1d8=6)
Nechtan then falls into a stupor.
Fabes DM |
The axe sails past the hideous fiend as he laughs at the little ranger. "Such bravado!"
With that it slowly levitates off the ground.
"But ultimately futile..."
And proceeds to fly away to the north, giving the dragonborn the opportunity to slash an ankle.
OA from Ddraig hits for 10 damage to the Oni. Sigh. The oni is now ariborne right on top of the letters Z and AA! Pat's travelling and Darvyl needs to make a save - hope you don't mind, Pat! i rolled a 7, sorry.
Darvyl continues to doze.
Ynyr's turn.
>>>>MAP<<<<
Ynyr the Artificer |
Ynyr moves to S9.
"Now why is it you are running away, tell me? You just come back here and fight, will you?"
Throwing his dagger in a seemingly futile gesture he tries once more to connect with the evil oni.
Magic weapon against Oni. (at long range). (1d20+7=26, 1d4+4=5)
It may only be a graze, but Ynyr feel vindicated to have made contact at all.
Assuming it makes any difference, Ddraig and Nechtan get a +1 power bonus to their next attack roll before the end of Ynyr's next turn.
Healaugh |
"Llawela"
Healaugh croons gently to his cherished javelin, takes aim and hurls it after the retreating monster. As the weapon returns to his hand, he calls out.
"Happen we'll be meeting again old 'un. Best have reminder."
Javelin chuck at Oni (lightning damage) (1d20 4=22, 1d6 4=9)
Ddraig Goch |
Ddraig, dropping his sword, grabs a javelin from his pack and hurls it at the cowardly, fleeing oni
Basic ranged attack: attack - 1d20+7; damage - 1d6+4
Rolls: 19+7=26 v AC; 3+4=7 damage
"Such is the fate that befalls cowards; they flee in the face of the righteous!" roared Ddraig.
Fabes DM |
The oni is now off the map, and cannot be seen. I'm going to rule you're out of combat now. If you do so, and we assume that everyone asleep eventually makes their dave, I will take that as a short rest (everyone can use healing surges, encounter powers recharge etc).
Under the friends' assault, the frightful creature swoops down behind some woods and now cannot be seen by your group.
Healaugh |
Healaugh considers the options and looks around at those of his friends who are still awake.
"Grand noise our lads can make," he remarks as the rhythmic snores of Darvyl and Nechtan fill the night air.
"Reet. Follow old 'un now or wake lads and get them back in fighting trim? Not so sure I fancy chances without bit more muscle on hand. No disrespect to you, Ddraig," he adds to the mountainous dragonborn.
Darvyl Wrightson |
"Reet. Follow old 'un now or wake lads and get them back in fighting trim? Not so sure I fancy chances without bit more muscle on hand. No disrespect to you, Ddraig," he adds to the mountainous dragonborn.
Darvyl, "Hey, Heauagh, I'm awake and right here. He didn't lay a paw on me."
Ynyr the Artificer |
"I would say that we follow, but, how can we follow when we can't hardly see where we have been? Do you see what I mean?"
Ynyr slumps dejectedly to the ground and sits there looking none too happy.
"That won't make much of a tale to tell any loved ones, now will it?", he mutters.
Greylan NPC |
"Well, yes, but I'm not sure it will make much difference, considering we already have your lantern."
He snaps his fingers and the top of his staff gives off a warm glow that illuminates the area around him.
"So, what's the plan? Do we leave this creepy place for the night and rest up whilst trying to not turn into muso-zombies, or do we get ourselves sorted out now and try to get to the bottom of things tonight?"
Fabes DM |
Just checking. ;)
The friends regain their senses and clear their heads.
Healaugh, Ynyr, Nechtan, Greylan

Clarification
Ddraig Goch |
Bending down to collect his sword, Ddraig said "I am not happy to allow the oni to escape, but see little alternative at the moment. We will meet him again, and when we do, we will kill him."
"Perhaps, instead, we should seek the origin of that mournful music."
Then, whilst the others consider their next moves, Ddraig performs his private sword cleansing ceremony.
FYI, it will be the case that, after every combat, Ddraig will cleanse his sword and, if appropriate, pray for the souls of the dead. I won't, therefore, repeat it ad nauseam, but just leave it as assumed.
Healaugh |
"Step over here."
Healaugh moves south away from the source of the music and gestures to the others to join him.
Once away from the mystic drag on his feet, he tries to pinpoint the exact location of the source.
Nechtan
If you're down to one healing surge, we probably should rest.
Ddraig Goch |
"Friend Nechtan, why do you wave your arms as if dispersing flies?" said Ddraig, pausing.
It is only at this point that Ddraig notices how far from the group he has been drawn, without his conscious knowledge.
"Nechtan, please accept my apologies and thanks. Why was I progressing up the hill?"
Greylan NPC |
Greylan explains to Ddraig, "We all are, or at least some of us are trying to move away at the same time. Or something." the high elf flounders for an explanation that will make sense to the dragonborn before adding, "It's magic, dear boy."
"So," he says to the group at large, "Are we going to face the music (ha, face the music!) or are we going to move off the hill?"
Healaugh |
Healaugh looks grim. "Aye. Facing music and ending it. Taking some precautions first. Bung up ears all of us."
DM
If Healaugh plays his hurdy-gurdy, can he drown out the enchanting music or does it operate like a divine challenge and call in some way that just pulls us regardless?
Healaugh |
The halfling outlines a potential plan. In groups of two, one tough guy and one squishy, they should circle the area. On a given signal, everyone bungs up their ears with cloth and Healaugh plays his hurdy-gurdy as loudly as possible to drown out the music.
Then the party advances on the source.
Even Healaugh, ever optimistic, admits that this is not the greatest plan in the world. But at the moment, it's the only one they've got.
"Ynyr and Ddraig, Darvyl and Greylan. I'll be stepping along with Nechtan seeings he's bonded to me," he concludes.
