Healaugh, saw 7 altogether. Just caught your note on Words of Friendship in the River King thread. Thanks for that, Pat. I better roll Stealth for Ddraig Goch - oh dear.... he got a total of 2.
As the huge dragonborn clanks his way ineffectually to the band of verbeeg, the others also make their way to meet the giants. Nechtan remains hidden behind a building.
Despite Ddraig's horrific noise, the verbeeg don't seem to hear him. They don't look up from what they're doing until the elderly one nudges one, who alerts the others, gesturing furiously.
Roll initiative, lads. Don't you just love those words?
Darvyl Wrightson
the others also make their way to meet the giants.
We do? I guess we do . . .
Init (1d20+6=19)| Fabes DM |
Greylan Mooneye
"Psychopaths!" is all Greylan can manage to mutter, startled by the quick change of events. Admittedly, he'd spent the last half an hour or so with his nose in a book, half-listening to the others. He managed to look up in enough time to see the healfling bounding merrily toward the Ogrish raiders. Even worse, the others were clanking forward full throttle.
Sheesh, I have a few christmas dinners and you all manage to fill three pages here...
Ynyr the Artificer
While waiting for something to happen, Ynyr amuses himself by dredging up all he can remember about the verbeeg.
Nature check for the Verbeeg (1d20+3=6)
He doesn't amuse himself for long.
Fabes DM
Nechtan remembers the following:
Round 1
Block 1
Nechtan
Darvyl
Verbeeg
Block 2
Healaugh
Ddraig Goch
Block 3
Verbeeg Elder
Greylan
Ynyr
I've organised the combat into blocks. basically when I announce a block, each of you in the block can post your actions. I then resolve them in initiative order. Block 1 is up.
Darvyl Wrightson
Darvyl holds back, watching for an opportunity. As the verbeeg approach, he charges in, swinging his scourge wildly.
Ready a charge as soon as one comes within six squares. Then miss. Scourge charge basic attack v AC (1d20+11=14, 1d8+7=13)
Nechtan of the Krutne
I am so sorry! Somehow, I missed the initiative section of Fabes last post, and only read the spoiler. I've been waiting for action to start, and wondering why Darvyl had posted his turn. Mea Culpa.
Nechtan move straight ahead towards the hut, and circles around it towards the wall. He picks out the closest Verbeeg that he can see for "Special Attention".
Move 9 squares (Double). Hunter's Quarry on one 4 squares diagonal from new position (he is beside store). Stealth (include -5 for move)Stealth (1d20+3=22) Wow! I should have played a Rogue!
Fabes DM
No problem. Darvyl - your trigger for a readied action does not happen, and you have a new place in the init order, after the verbeeg. Nechtan - Verbeeg 4 is now your quarry.
Darvyl readies himself for a charge that does not come, as Nechtan scurries around the side of the building.
The verbeeg frantically gesture at one another and hunker down behind the crates, getting out longbows, and nocking arrows.
Block 2: Ddraig Goch is away, so I'll make his move for him. Healaugh, your turn.
Healaugh
The halfling shrugs and runs towards the cover of the large tree. As he arrives, he unleashes some invective on the nearest Verbeeg (Verbeeg 6). "Tha bunch of inbred numpties. Turn tha's round and get away from here."
That would be Vicious Mockery. 1d20+4 (-2 for cover)=16 v Will. If it hits (unlikely), 1d6+5=8 damage and Verbeeg 6 is at -2 on his attack rolls until the end of Healaugh's next turn.
"Sorry lads, were best I could come up with on spur of moment" he adds apologetically to his comrades.
Fabes DM
The Verbeeg looks puzzled and then looks around as if confused where the sound came from. Healaugh can see that this Verbeeg is female, and would be attractive were she not rather elongated in frame and hair like a thornbush. That and her teeth are rather too sharp... She hits her ears as if trying to get the sound of Healaugh's voice out.
Ddraig Goch lumbers to the fray and bellows at the old verbeeg, "You! Old one! Stand and face me, if you are their leader!"
The old verbeeg glares right at Ddraig Goch and croaks out a laugh! he lifts right off the ground and flies away as if by magic, sailing straight over the town wall away to the west.
Healaugh hit. Divine Challenge on Verbeeg Elder. Verbeeg Elder has flown off map. Block 3's turn.
Greylan Mooneye
"Oh, that's real subtle." Greylan sighs as he tosses his book behind him. "I guess we'll just finish this now." He takes up his staff defensively and hustles toward the group of giants, chanting an incantation as red flame swirls around his right arm. It eventually explodes into a little blast of flame 50ft away from him, dousing these large people in fire.
6 squares move diagonal SW. Cast 'Scorching Burst' near the first group. 10 squares should plant it right above the Elder's head, catching those two. But probably missing.
EDIT; Whoops. The old man was still around when I made this post.
Ynyr the Artificer
Ynyr moves six squares diagonally towards the Verbeeg and Healaugh. So he ends up off the track and a knight's move away from Healaugh. He then fires his Alchemist's fire imbued arrow on the the square with the crate that has three of the verbeeg next to it. (2 squares diagonally away from the door of the store).
This is, in fact an area attack so the arrow was just the delivery mechanism but it added the range required.
From top to bottom, hits vs Reflex on the three verbeeg
Hits vs reflex from the top... (1d20+4=22, 1d20+4=17, 1d20+4=12)
This does 6 damage on those it hits and 3 on the ones it missed.
Could you possibly add some coordinate thingy's to the map? It would make it easier. Ta.
As a minor action, Ynyr will stow his longbow preparatory to taking out his dagger.
Fabes DM
Nechtan of the Krutne
Nechtan bursts from cover, moving swiftly to the smouldering crates R8 and slashing all about him with his claymore.
Dire Wolverine Strike: Damage (1d10+5=9) , Attacks vs V4, V1, V3 (1d20+8=15, 1d20+8=24, 1d20+8=18) vs AC, if he hits V4 (unlikely) HQ damage (1d8=3) .
Fabes DM
All 3 of your opponents have cover, so it's -2 to hit, but you hit them all except V4.
Taking the verbeeg by surprise, Nechtan leaps into the toasted boxes and slashes at his foes! Two take nasty cuts, but one (seeing the fury in Nechtan's beady eyes) hefts a small box and blocks the blow.
Very busy verbeeg go some time tomorrow!
Fabes DM
V1 attacks Nechtan 19 vs AC and Nechtan takes 10 damage. Using its relentless power it pushes Nechtan back 1 square (to S7) and shifts to the vacated square. Nechtan is also marked by V1. 2 longbow attacks from V3 and V4 miss. V2 fires longbow at Ynyr - misses. V5 fires at Ddraig and misses as does V6.
One of the verbeeg stows his longbow and draws his own claymore and viciously swipes at Nechtan, throwing the little ranger off-balance. The giant swiftly follows up and leaps onto the crates himself.
His companions fire their arrows at the Krutne man; both miss as Nechtan tumbles aside.
Ynyr sees a shot go wide - was it meant for him? Ddraig also sees a hail of arrows hit the building he's next to.
Darvyl's turn. Yay. Go Team Verbeeg. Sigh.
Healaugh
Darvyl advances on the verbeeg, trying to take cover from their missile fire, lest their aim grow better.
Double move to z6, where I think I have cover from most of them. It would also be helpful to know which of them is which, number-wise, if possible.
They are numbered, in red.
Healaugh
Unless Ynyr feels it would be beneficial to be shifted one square south, I can't see much benefit in moving folks around this time. The only folks it would apply to are Ddraig, Ynyr and Darvyl as they were the ones the Verbeeg attacked. The melee boys seem to be within range to smack Verbeeg and Healaugh can't move Greylan or Nechtan anyway.
Ddraig Goch
With a growl of annoyance at the disappearance of the old man, Ddraig strides forward to U9 and swings his longsword in an arc at the nearest Verbeerg. Valiant Strike - 1d20+10 to hit. Roll: 4 + 10 = 14; Damage: 1d8+6. Roll: 6 + 6 = 12
Ddraig may have been slightly overwhelmed at the old man's behaviour!
Healaugh
"La de da de da ... ooopsy, can't think how that happened. Tha' must've moved lass."
Healaugh sings a few notes and his words confuse the already befuddled Verbeeg woman even more, she now seems to be under the impression that Darvyl hit her. (Aiming at V6). He stays in the trees, hoping to remain unnoticed.
Misdirected mark. 1d20+4 v Ref=18, 1d8+5=10 damage. V6 is now marked by Darvyl until the end of Healaugh's next turn. If it hits of course.
Fabes DM
Nechtan of the Krutne
DM
Will probably be unavailable rest of day.
On Nechtan's turn
Shift to R6
use Twin Strike on Verbeeg 4 (vs AC) Twin Strike + Hunter's Quarry (1d20+8=14, 1d10+2=3, 1d20+7=24, 1d6+2=8, 1d8=4)
{looks like hand axe hits for 12 cold damage? or 8 cold and 4 damage)
If Verbeeg 4 makes an attack while still adjacent to Nechtan, the Krutne will use Disruptive Strike (vs AC)
Disruptive Strike (1d20+8=20, 1d10+5=11)
If it hits, the Verbeeg takes -5 on his attack roll.
Ynyr the Artificer
Assuming V6 is still standing after Greylan's turn: Ynyr moves to Y11 and throws his dagger at V6. Using Aggravating Force. The dagger, being magical, returns to Ynyr after the attempt.
"I've been practising this, you know? This will be a good time to get it right, now, wouldn't it?"
Hit the Verbeeg. (1d20+8=27, 1d4+4=8)
"Well, that should do it, no?" He says as he deftly catches his returning dagger.
I'm thinking that would be a hit. So the next attack against the Verbeeg, whosoever does so, gets a +2 power bonus to the attack roll. But it must happen before Ynyr's next turn to get the benefit.
Greylan Mooneye
"Damn it, I can't see what's going on!" Greylan says as he hustles around the battlefield for a better view.
Aiming to catch most of the Verbeeg in the blast, Greylan aims his staff at the group, and slams it hard into the ground, activating it's power.
"I really do hate the smell of burning hair..."
Move to Z8, Scorching burst centered on P8, using the daily power of the Staff of the War Mage, to increase the blast size to 2. Catching all 5? Abysmal rolls vs. Reflex
Ynyr the Artificer
I'm thinking that would be a hit. So the next attack against the Verbeeg, whosoever does so, gets a +2 power bonus to the attack roll. But it must happen before Ynyr's next turn to get the benefit.
Just to be clear, this is the next attack against V6 only
Fabes DM
Greylan, you only roll for damage once. You roll to hit each enemy but you only use one damage roll. You hit 3 and 4. Again, Greylan it appears you have added half your level to damage rolls. You don't add it to damage, but you do add it to hit. So you have done 12 damage to each. V3 is now bloodied. Ynyr hits V6 and bloodies her. Next person to attack V6 gets a +2 to hit her.
Greylan's firey blast causes the verbeeg to bellow in a groaning manner as they are burnt.
One of the female verbeegs also moans as a dagger flies from Ynyr's hand and slashes her. It returns to his hand in a trice.
