Human

Looks like we're safe to make the next set of disasterous move silently rolls. Combined with climb and balance checks.

I love how completely rubbish this party is at basic adventuring tasks.

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

No, you're done with rolls.

For now...

Bwahahahahaha!

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

Could everyone remind me what you're armed with? There was a section where it was a real weapon swapsie.

What I have is:

Melisana - x-bow (the supposedly non-violent NPC who's actually quite good at it)

Coinneach - nothing

Conall - club

Brand - Longsword, axe, dagger

Ynyr - axe

Tresmeer - axe and sling

Healaugh - sling and spears

Siobhan - dagger?

Human

That's correct for Healaugh. He's got rocks as well. He picked them up before the Move Silently hilarity started.

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

Right ok. So slings at -2 to hit and rocks for 1d2 damage I think I said. Excellent.

Human

He'll be +3 in fact, despite the -2. Although at 1d2 damage he'll need work out some comedy stylings to keep opponents still while he gently bombards them with pebbles.

m other rogue/bard/ranger 1/2/1

And I gave the sword to Tresmeer and am currently armed with axe, a dagger was being bandied about but I think it wasn't mine, so as far as I can tell axe and dagger for Brand

The Exchange

Sling is Tresmeer's weapon of choice.

But since it is improvised he is at -2, Yes?

Then does this mean that the rest of the party are on a higher negative or what? How does being proficient benefit Tresmeer, in other words?

Note to DM, his secondary weapon is now a sword. Have updated profile alias to read that.

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

If you're non-proficient in sling then you're already at a -4 penalty. So with these slings you're at -6 penalty. Which means Healaugh should actually be -2 improv -4 non-prof +3 Dex +1 size +1 halfling = -1 to hit.

Tresmeer is on +0 to hit with the slings.

The Exchange

Makes sense now. It is a touch confusing.

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

I have a strange fascination for maths. :D Simple maths, not stuff like logarithms.

Sorry, yes, when I refer to a penalty or bonus I take it for granted that others will then be factored in per each PC's bonuses etc. I'll be clearer in future.

The Exchange

Just trying to help get all the PC's on the same sheet.

The maths is all part of the fun to me too. Comes of being a teacher in a previous life.

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

So we currently have:

Siobhan -1 to hit -1 to damage (dagger -melee)
+0 to hit -1 damage (dagger - thrown)

Tresmeer +0 to hit +0 to damage (sling)
-4 to hit +0 damage (longsword)

Conall +1 to hit +1 to damage (club -one handed)
+1 to hit +2 to damage (club -two handed)

Healaugh -1 to hit +0 to damage (sling)
+1 to hit +0 damage (short spear - thrown)
-3 to hit +0 damage (short spear - melee)

Brand +4 to hit +3 damage (longsword - one handed) - ah he gave this to Tresmeer...
+4 to hit +4 damage (longsword - two handed)
+5 to hit +3 damage (battleaxe - one handed)
+5 to hit +4 damage (battleaxe - two handed)

Ynyr - -4 to hit +0 damage (battleaxe)
+0 to hit +0 damage (if someone gives him a club or dagger)
+1 to hit +0 damage (if he throws a dagger)

Melisana - +1 to hit +0 damage (light crossbow) [if you haven't guessed, she has the aristocrat NPC class]

Coinneach - non-combatant

Looks like you really do want Conall and Brand up front with the others er... in reserve. Melisana will give the crossbow to Ynyr actually, now that there is a party member who can use it.

Human Expert 1, Init +1, AC16/12/14, Hits 8, F+2,R+1,W+3, Perception +5

Revised for strength bonus to weapons.

Tresmeer +0 to hit +2 to damage (sling)
-4 to hit 1d8+3 damage (broad sword)

OGL Strength bonus applies to sling damage

EDIT: checked it's a broadsword not a bastard sword.

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

Apologies, for some reason I thought he had Str 10. Weird. The sling should be +0 to hit +1 to damage. It's a longsword, not a bastard sword, so it's 1d8+1or 1d8+2.

Str bonus applies to Sling damage yes, but you only have +1 Str bonus.

Human Expert 1, Init +1, AC16/12/14, Hits 8, F+2,R+1,W+3, Perception +5

Apologies I thought he had Strength 14, must be confusing him with True Vigileon.

I shall go and soak my head!

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

Haha, we both got his Str wrong. Poor old Tres! Although I think if they were in a line-up I'd differentiate him and True...

EDIT: adjusted his Str bonus for longsword... I have now managed to get it wrong both ways!

Human Expert 1, Init +1, AC16/12/14, Hits 8, F+2,R+1,W+3, Perception +5

Everything points towards him not becoming a fighter.

Siobhán gave her dagger to Conall - she is entirely without weapon now, she is non-combaty as a non-combat-thing!

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

That was nice of her, he already has a club!

Human

Boglins. Where is that mysterious +5 on slings and thrown weapons coming from then? I make no apology for asking - you worked those stats out in the first place.

You'll have guessed I'm now completely befuddled.

When she took the dagger she said she was taking it on Conall's behalf and always intended to give it to him when he was healed and she's a woman of her word - even if it does leave her weaponless *pets the silly halfelf*

RR - it goes like this...

+3 Dex +1 size +1 halfling bonus = +5 to thrown weapons and slings.

Oh no, you're not proficient with slings... that's a -4 penalty

Taking you to +1 to slings.

Oh no, the DM is a meanie ;) -2 for improvised curtain slings

Taking you to -1 to slings.

Clear as mud. :D

Probably human Bard/5, (tech)wizard/9

Gosh I've missed a lot of discussion!

Let me read, digest and comment before anything more is done with these weapons.

I am a bit peeved that Ynyr's artificing skill seems to count for nothing in the sling department. That is why I gave it to him, so that he sould help a bit getting around any improvised penalties (or at least some of them). If he can't make things (slightly) better than others because of it it makes him pretty useless to the party.

Ynyr currently has an axe and a dagger.

Human

As you say. All is now (sadly) clear. I shall go and work on that burlesque/standup comedy routine Healaugh has been secretly longing to try out on an Yrch audience.

EDIT: Thrugg posted at the same time as me. My reply was addressed to Fabes.

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

To make weapons you have to be a weaponsmith, He just isn't, I'm sorry. He had poor materials to work with. If Ynyr wasn't in the party I would probably have said that they couldn't have slings at all. He is useful.

Probably human Bard/5, (tech)wizard/9

Sighs... Then looks brighter and feels useful once more...

OK, you're the boss.

Anyway, Ynyr has been trying to pass his axe on to someone else since he got it but, like some cursed weapon in an old computer game, he seems unable to get rid of it. He will hang on to it for now (it is becoming some sort of comfort object - a talisman to continued life) but, if anybody wants it, just ask.

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

Haha - I used to hate getting cursed weapons in Computer RPGS - "this weapon is cursed!" then having to use the damn thing for ages.

I'll just say you have a club from Brand. You can use that without penalty.

Probably human Bard/5, (tech)wizard/9

Coo thanks!

That will do nicely, if Brand can spare it. Then he may just put his axe down now or offer it to the assembled company as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Human

If you value your sanity and your kneecaps, don't let Healaugh get his paws on it.

-4 non-proficiency
-4 wrong size
- something I've probably forgotten

That really is a cursed weapon.

-2 for the wrong size ;)

The Exchange

By the way, Happy Star wars Day to all of you and Happy Birthday to me! I am loving this game, even when we mess about with weapons.

I can just see us all huddled in a group going,"No you take it... No you, Plesae I insist you have the nice club. I prefer my sling of curtain material!"

Cheers all, happy gaming.

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

LOL happy birthday!

They're such a nice bunch of characters. I wonder what they will be like when they become proper adventurers. Probably more inclined to try to talk people out of their evil ways. Love it.

The Exchange

At least their is no size penalty or non-proficiency for Diplomacy.

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

Just imagining their approaches:

"Noaw, oi be thinkin' tha' you'm be leavin' us alone."

"Look you, it's not a very good thing you are doing there is it, now?"

"Would you like to hear a story about how Brigid destroyed an entire island-full of folks like you? If only they had changed the error of their ways the wrath of the goddess wouldn't have befallen them.."

Human

Happy birthday FW - hope it is/has been a good one.

Oh yes. This gang as adventurers would be hilarious.

"Nay lad, that's not a proper storm. Not like our Brigid-lass can raise. You'd best go back and work on more than lightning bolts if'n you've got plans t' take over world."

m other rogue/bard/ranger 1/2/1

that's why I wanted Tresmeer to go...my rolling is so abominable I'm afraid I'll get everyone killed if I actually have to go into battle

Human

Not sure that Tresmeer's are a whole lot better really. And you at least have a weapon you can technically use. Healaugh really is a bit rubbish at the moment, unless anyone wants his insights into the wonders of Brigid-lass.

Probably human Bard/5, (tech)wizard/9

Happy birthday from me too FW.

Our party is planning everything with the sure knowledge that they will roll lousy rolls, which makes for a very different game to the usual D&D hack party.

The Exchange

Thanks for that folks.

I handed out 42xp to my players yesterday as well. That felt good.

Cheers

m other rogue/bard/ranger 1/2/1

Being the crass American of the group I neglected to congratulate you on making it another year...so at least I'm still in character, heh!

Happy Belated Birthday French Wolf!

The Exchange

Thanks Amardolem.

Probably human Bard/5, (tech)wizard/9

Just an FYI, that it's coming up to Showtime here in North Yorkshire, so I will be pretty involved in that until the 18th May when it is all over. There will be days when it is easy to post and days when there won't be time, so please excuse any lapses in Ynyr's continuity. If you need to, and I haven't posted, please assume that he will do the sensible thing.

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

Oh, ok, attack with melee weapon at every available opportunity it is then. ;)

Human

Eeek. That will apply to Healaugh as well. Do feel free to NPC him. Wish you luck with that one. His actions make no sense to me.

FabesMinis wrote:

Just don't shut him in any rooms that might turn out to be traps!

Human

Hot diggety. Think FW just came up with Healaugh's future career over on the game thread.

Don't know how this would work within generic classes, but would be fun to try. Bard was the suggestion. Would mean he can sing Brigid-lass's praises to the irritation of all (musical instrument probably a mouth organ or something equally portable). He'd still be rubbish as a caster, but taking vaguely arcane stuff if he lasts that long might solve that issue.

Still give him ranged specialism, fits with the general Healaugh pattern of death or glory charges, wild random acts of stupidity and tendency act before he thinks.

Fabes? Could this work?

m other rogue/bard/ranger 1/2/1

Yeah, one of those sailors with a squeeze box, doing sea shanties-har! All you need is the quaint sailor hat. I was wondering this, as everyone's talking about their class...do we stay generic or somehow move to one of the "traditional" classes?

I'm also curious, what kind of show? You said it ends May 18th, I'll be over there at the end of June, I'm renting a cottage near Wells for a week, and while I will be taking in the sights, generally don't go in for the touristy stuff, just R&R and get the head clear. Then I'm going over to France to see an old friend. (of course I picked the worst year in recent history to come over given the exchange rate, but it can't be helped, sometimes you only get 1 crack at these things)

and on a lighter note the electronic dice seem to have taken a shine to me today

Human

Show is Gilbert and Sullivan's Iolanthe. The one about fairies taking over the Houses of Parliament. Thrugg is conducting, I've directed it. For the local Operatic Society who bizarrely claim not to be able to sing.

It should be fun once the run starts, but I'm a headless chicken until the end of the dress rehearsal.

We have nice weather at the moment, but that's guaranteed to have changed by the time you get over here. Our summer's tend to be like that - two weeks of clear blue skies and pleasant sunshiney days with gentle breezes, then 10 weeks of solid dreary rain.

Healaugh with an accordian .... the mind boggles. It is just the kind of idiot thing he'd do as well. Can't carry food or any actual essentials of life because the accordian is more important.
