So here begins the discussion thread. Please create an alias for your character, along with choosing a character portrait.
The Players (so far)
Rev Rosey - halfling class unknown (some profession to do with the sea)
Kayos - half-elf? adept? (profession - wisewoman?)
fopalup - human commoner (profession - blacksmith?) - can I just say at this point that there are no 'knights' per se for you to have been a squire to, but you could have been a 'tough' for a merchant or local lordling.
ZioKai - human class unknown - militiaman (profession - ?)
1st Level
25 point build
Races: Human, Half-elf (very rare, maybe only 1), halfling
Classes: Adept, Commoner, Expert, Warrior
Feats 'n' Skills:
Skillful - All characters get 2 extra skill points per level. These points must be spent on Craft, Knowledge, or Profession skills only. These bonus parts are multiplied as usual at first level (so 8 skill points useable on Craft, Knowledge, and Profession skills at level 1, and 2 such skill points every subsequent level). In addition, all Craft, Knowledge, and Profession skills are considered class skills for these skill points.
Grounded - All characters get 1 extra bonus feat at first level. This feat must be used for Skill Focus, a +2/+2 skill feat, a Regional feat, or another similar low-power, high-flavor feat. Regional and "other" feats must meet DM approval.
Setting: The Moonshae Isles (from Forgotten Realms) crossed with Le Guin's Earthsea. i.e. more down to earth than FR has become. A real-world analogy would be the Hebrides or the west coast of Ireland. I'll post a link to a map and you can decide which town/island you're from.
Equipment: Nothing but the clothes on your back.
Languages: Korinnish (a creole from Illuskan and Waelish), Illuskan (spoken by the Northmen), Waelish (spoken by the most of the Moonshae Isles)
Religion: the Earthmother aka Jannath aka Chauntea is the original deity of the entirety of the Moonshaes, but with the coming of the Northmen as well as an influx of other peoples from other lands into the archipelago, worship here is more mixed. Thus Umberlee is known to be venerated (or rather placated) by pirates, some people wish for good luck from Brigid (known elsewhere as Tymora), and the warrior god Tempos is sometimes invoked.
Races: Humans and halflings have lived here in conjunction for so long that no-one knows of a time when the small folk weren't to be found in human society. Few people have seen an elf, although if someone displays 'un-natural' magical talents they are said to be 'alfkinder' - 'elf-child'. Thus there may be some half-elves in the isles, and some rumour elves either hidden or disguised as men.
Your characters:
a) have never been anywhere other than their home island or the sea around it
b) have jobs in their community
c) have never so much as sniffed adventure or daring-do
d) are the background guys in an adventure normally; you don't even really know that 'adventurer' exists as a trade. Sure there are crazy people and merchants, but that's about it for travellers. Oh, and pirates.
Pleas don't write essays of background. A max of 300 words is fine. Where you're going is more important than where you came from.
Enemies: The traditional 'enemy races' are somewhat modified, in that all things like orcs, hobgoblins, goblins etc are all just breeds of the dastardly Fhoi Myore. In this area, the are split into pirate bands.
DM Fiat - Please don't be offended if I request you to change something, and please try to make them as ordinary as possible. This adventure will be when they earn their spurs (as it were).

Here's a map of the archipelago:
Descriptions of the islands:
Barret's Quay
A smallish, eastern island, noted for its taciturn inhabitants. Only humans, no other races. No large port cities.
Caftenor
One of the richest in terms of fish catches and temperate weather. Quite a few halflings live here amongst humans. caftenor is the most frequent stopping off point for the southern lands and the western islands.
Dennik
Unfortunate Dennik is the western frontier. Any further west and you're in pirate territory. The island actually has few fishermen, due to its vulnerability. Most of the population are herders or growers of spices and herbs.Mostly human, but there are rumours that the blood of the Fhoi Myore runs in some veins... (count as half-orcs for rules purposes)
Highport
The greenest of all the islands, mountainous and heavily forested. A rich trading island.
Jacaman
Smaller, uglier, weaker than Dennik; the archipelago's chief producer of exotic herbs. A lot of risky trade out to the island, with a great deal of pirate interest.
Pandira
This northern island was a pirate stronghold in the days of the Sea King, but has been abandoned since the Sea King's fall (60 years ago)
Rabin's Reef
Another forested island,
Ventris
The largest island, and the richest. Forested and mountainous, with a very mixed populace. If you're going to meet foreigners, here is where it will happen.
By and large, there are not many farmers on the islands, but there are many fisherman and herders of sheep, goats and pigs.
History
The islands were first settled 200 years ago by the same strong stubborn stock that inhabits them today. A nobleman from the southern Kingdom of Pretan, Viledel by name set out to create a maritime empire a century ago along with his lady Liala. In direct defiance, he formed his stronghold on the westernmost and least hospitable of the islands. Over the next four decades he was able to diminish the power of the pirate forces. His followers mixed with the previous colonists peacefully, creating the unique dialect that remains in the isles today. He became known as the Sea King as a result of his efforts.
In the fortieth year of his reign, his island was attacked by the pirates and its population destroyed. Pirate domination of the sea routes led to its location being entirely forgotten.
In the 60 years since, the islands have become several petty kingdoms, still flourishing but maybe not as much as if they had still been unified.

Any thoughts on letting me have some kind of weather sense? Alternatively something to do with tides, dangerous waters and whatnot picked up from knowledge of fish? Can I transform either of these into feats?
This is to tie in the with fisherhalfling thing.
Rev: how about Spirit of the Sea (+8 to Survival checks whilst on board a boat or ship) or Stormheart (+2 Balance, +2 Profession (sailor), +1 dodge bonus whilst on board ship, ignore terrain hindrance from slippery decks)
Paul T: Looking pretty cool there.
Kayos: Nifty indeed. Rabin's Reef should have had a bit more added to it about what a nice place it is in terms of scenery. :D But it got deleted! oops!

Ok after my swift ninja language edit I am ready, just give me a time slot and a chopping of the trees and pirates I shall go...
By the way I live in California for time reference.
The way it'll work is you just post whenever you can, there's no particular slot. It works fine for me most of the time, even though I live in the UK (as does Rosey).

Right - says the man wearing a Cornish rugby top as he posts. I'm over the border due to work and live in Exmouth, near Exeter.
Hello to everyone else.
Can you outline who is what class? What do we need?
Although I know the adventure well, I'll do my best to forget everything, including the red dragon at the end.
Cheers

Hello to everyone else.
How bizarre. I met my husband in Budleigh Salterton. Have very happy memories of Devon. And some very drunken ones.
We're northerners now, been up here six years. Hello.

We're northerners now, been up here six years. Hello.
The opposite of me then! I started out in West Yorkshire but I'm now happily living on the south coast ;)
And in an attempt to help French Wolf (and for my own reference, yay keeping profile links together!):
Rev Rosey's character - Halfling Commoner, fisherman
ZioKai's character - Human Warrior, militiaman
Paul T's character - Human Expert, master of the hounds
My character - Half elf Adept, wisewoman
and fopalup - human commoner (profession - blacksmith?)

Hmm, "by Tre, Pol and Pen, you shall know the Cornishmen" - I was being dense but I suppose the vibe of the archipelago is kind of Cornish as well; "Korrin" geddit?
I lived in Exeter for 7 years, loved the railway journey down the coast into Cornwall. Beautiful places.
Oh, and the red dragon has been replaced by a half-green dragon pseudonatural nightmare. ;)

fopalup |

Sorry it's taking me so long, everyone. Some issues between work and home have been keeping me busier than I expected. Nevertheless, I am still enthuiastically looking forward to this game. Just gotta redo my feats
And I am an unemployed squire, falling back on the armorsmithing. Granted there may not be much call for that either, but that would probably be a reason for me to have to go adventuring.

fopalup |

You know what? Forget the entire squire thing. I may use that as a later date, but I'm gonna totally revamp my character into a Blacksmith and get him all the appropriate stuff for that. Too bad you don't allow dwarves, oh well. Human is cool too.
BTW how is everyone creating a page for their character? I am a total nube here and this thread caught my eye, and I got really excited for it but I know next to nuthin' about how to do this kind of stuff yet. Did you make a totally new profile? Or is there a special page for it? What is it? I'll have my character up as soon as possible.

Tresmeer is ready for inspection.
Please advise re languages/island from his "moor-ish" background and take a look at his equipment list. It seems to fit but breaks your rules for generation.
Cheers
You literally have no equipment bar your clothes. :D Bwahahaha
Languages - one of either Illuskan or Waelish. Islands - one of the ones described as being harsh (there are a couple).
