To clarify Maddigan, was the elf you were referring to me? I'd definitely understand if you tried speaking Elven. :)
Daeron Lareththor |
As it stands, you can talk to Garand and I ok using Elven. If we get into combat a bunch, I can just have Daeron prepare comprehend languages and burn 3 castings of it with my metamagic rod/pearls of power to put it on Pavel, Theoden and Akulayok. That'd be 160 min of everyone understanding one another per day.

Sorry for the delay all (I didn't even realize that I was supposed to be introducing the new PC!).
I've been working outside at night, directing trucks, in temperatures that have gotten as low as -6 F, from 6 PM to as late as 6 AM, so I've been a bit ragged, and my off-work time consists mainly of trying to thaw out a little.
I'll be a bit of a zombie until this job ends around Christmas, at which point I'll hook up an IV drip of hot chocolate and spend more time at the computer. :)

Yikes dude. Here's to looking forward to Christmas then, eh? I want to note that my own posting will be a bit more limited (but still 1/day I think) from the 21st to the 29th. I'll be away with family and will have somewhat limited internet access during the day. I should be able to get extensive posting done at night and in the morning though.

Does Akuyalok know anything about the question Pavel had? In hindsight, it wasn't very obvious that was also a question from my post.
The Celestial Bureaucracy |
A CotCT game I'm in is currently recruiting an extra player. Let me know if you post an application.
Rikash |
It's always something I've been somewhat dissatisfied with as a DM. On the other hand, it is important to make skills relevant. I've tended towards awarding a (small) bonus based on what's said and then taking the dice from there. If it's a bad roll, then I explain it as something about what you said rubbing someone the wrong way or something. I'm still trying to find a good way to handle this.
The Celestial Bureaucracy |
I'm still working on the recruitment post, and thinking whether I can pull it off, so no promises.
Requirements
- Level 1.
- Good only.
- 20 point-buy for attributes, no score above 18 or below 8, after racial adjustments.
- Races allowed: Core races and Changeling, Dhampir, Fetchling, Kitsune, Nagaji, Ratfolk, Samsaran, Strix, Tengu, Vishkanya.
- Classes allowed: All Pathfinder except Gunslinger and Summoner. Ninjas and Samurais are allowed, but as retooled versions with weapon proficiencies changed to that of Rogues and Cavaliers respectively.
- One campaign trait (see below).
- One extra feat taken from the following list: Acrobatic, Alertness, Animal Affinity, Athletic, Cosmopolitan, Deceitful, Deft Hands, Great Fortitude, Iron Will, Lightning Reflexes, Magical Aptitude, Persuasive, Self-Sufficient, Stealthy, Skill Focus.
- One of your first level skill points must reflect your current occupation.
- Half of average starting cash.
Applications should contain (under an alias if possible)
- The mythic path your character will be aiming for and the related campaign trait he’s taken (see below). That trait should be woven into the background.
- Character sheet (equipment optional) with at least one skill point in a skill that reflects your occupation in Kenabres.
- Description
- Personality
- Background (see below) with motivation to join the crusade
Campaign Trait: The Seed of a Myth
The campaign will eventually grant you mythic tiers. The six campaign traits presented in the Player’s Guide are tied to the six mythic paths. I will choose four to six players for the game, but no more than one per trait/path.
Mythic Rules on PFSRD
- Chance Encounter (Trickster Mythic Path)
- Child of the Crusade (Marshall Mythic Path)
- Exposed to Awfulness (Guardian Mythic Path)
- Riftwarden Orphan (Archmage Mythic Path)
- Stolen Fury (Champion Mythic Path)
- Touched by Divinity (Hierophant Mythic Path)
Regarding Background: Humble Beginnings and Original Sins
The gods are whimsical some would say, others would claim that none can fathom their greater plan. Though you are destined for greatness, your upbringing and current occupation don’t reflect that higher calling. Though you came to Kenabres to serve in the Crusade, things have not turned out for the best as of yet. You might be working in a seedy kitchen cleaning dishes, behind a bar serving drinks, walking the beat chasing small time thieves, prostituting yourself in a small brothel or cleaning houses to earn a living. You have not reached your potential, and have started to lose hope, thinking that your contribution will never make it into the history books.
Somewhere deep inside yourself, there is a sense of guilt that has so far pulled you back. You are ashamed of something you’ve said and done many years ago that has had negative results for people you cared about. This potential for evil is inside you, and you know it. Perhaps this is what has kept you from your destiny until now...
Let me know if you have comments or suggestions.

I'd like to see the Aasimar and Tiefling races added as options in a campaign centered on fighting evil. The angel-blooded champion and fiend-blooded anti-hero seeking redemption are staples of this type of campaign.
Samurai is pointless without the katana. Ninja as rogue replacement is always a nice option given the superior build of the class.

I'll think about it, but I doubt they'll make it. Probably for the same reasons you mentioned... ;p

You have the bad nasty, Javell. Sucks to be in that state when you need the sleep, but you can't. Soon as your body reaches the point you can't take it any longer, you'll get to sleep and it will put you that hibernation state you need to get well. Hope you get there soon.

Okay, typically I am not an Enlarge fan. Because it seems every time I've noticed someone with it, they get pummeled.
But that's a pretty good argument when it comes to versus a larger creature. That's actually a good idea.
I had this problem in my KM game(DW runs that one also). Of course, it didn't help that the trolls we fought were HUGE and not LARGE. I got big and they got bigger. I got whupped bad. So, in that situation I guess it's a no win. I'm thinking as long as your the same size or at least bigger, it should work well. So now that I think about it, it was a great idea to be enlarged vs. the trolls, Set. But when they got all HUGE on us, I was practically in the same boat as if we were both normal. I still feel there has to be a way to beat that though.
Man, I'll take any advice on how to utilize it better because now it's kind of irritating me. I think I've been just using it improperly. Probably just not taking advantage of it as I should.
Javell DeLeon |
Honestly I don't think either you or Pavel have high enough armor that you're likely to be able to dodge a bunch of hits anyway.
Yeah that's true. I just better hope to hit. With the way I roll... just scary. As far as invisibility, I think that might be a better fit for Pavel. Not really Theoden's style. He's more of a, "Here I am! Come and get me!", type guy. :)
Yeah reach weapons would be a good idea. Especially when you already have a 10' reach with a normal weapon at that size.
Raith Shadar |
Enlarge is most useful when you have some kind of tactical advantage with reach or are superior to your enemy. The +2 strength bonus and increased weapon size for melee which works out to an extra 3 to 5 points of damage a hit, you're taking a -2 to your AC (due to dex reduction and size) and a -1 penalty to hit. Given how low Theoden and Pavel's ACs are, it may not matter. The extra damage may be of greater benefit. We don't want the dragon living too long.
One other advantage of your increased size should help Garand position to heal without stepping into AoO range. If Pavel stays small, Garand will have to move into AoO range and risk a defensive casting to heal him.
Regardless we're at a huge disadvantage against a dragon in an open field like this. Depending on his power level and Celestial's tactical play, this could be very bad.
Set |
Yeah, the dragon totally controls this encounter, at the moment.
That's one reason why Garand hasn't cast his communal protection / resist spells yet, because the dragon can just sit on top of his pillar and ignore us while our buffs wear off otherwise.
We just get to slowly advance across the ice sheet and wait for it to take the initiative.
It's kind of un-dramatic, hence Garand looking around for illusions, etc. since it would feel more narratively dramatic for the dragon to be bursting out of the snow and taking us by surprise or something. (Perhaps I'm thinking too much like Elan's dad, from the Giant in the Playground strip... I suppose white dragons aren't known for their sense of narrative, or maybe this one is trying to lure us into a trap.)

I feel your pain about the time drawing up posts, my last few posts took about an hour each to draw up (partially as I was looking up a bunch of rules about Archons). I think I might need to have Manulani just hang out nearby and keep an eye out from now on. It's enough to keep track of with the Archon and Daeron without adding him into the mix.

I'm still getting used to this whole online campaigning. It's so hard to interact with the DM and operate with a high level of tactical effectiveness when you can't talk back and forth.
If we were approaching this monolith in a tabletop game with CB, I'd have moved up slow with stealth and given myself a cover advantage in relation to the creatures and had the group spread out more so they weren't so affected by an AoE attack like a trample. To do that in an online game would take quite a few posts and possibly a few days. Play by post makes you seem like a dumb player a lot of the time.
