In the tents are sleeping cots and a few meager possessions. Also can be found 2 barrels of water, one half full of cheap ale and another of whiskey (1 gal). There are provisions here for 10 people for a week but they are very meager.

Lars the Crusader |

"I'm reasonably sure nobody would risk the wrath of Pekko by tampering with ale."
then he pulls out his mug and pours himself a fill. Then he takes a big swig.
He immediately spits it out and starts coughing violently.
"How dare they affront Pekka! They watered down the ale! The heathens!"

Sorek |

While Lars is throwing a fit about the desecration of his gods holy water, Sorek continues to look about, searching within the camp for clues and then in the area surrounding the camp looking for tracks as to where they all may have gone or if anything attacked them.
if this search turns up nothing, I'll just chalk it up to an unsolvable mystery and recommend that we continue on our way to RA
as we spread out within the camp Sorek calls out to the rest of the group "anyone see anything interesting besides bad ale?"

Kids leaving in a couple of days - posting not a priority at the mo - sorry but I hope understandable.
The goblin rogue comes back from going to the toilet privately and finds the party have moved on without him. He hurries after them and yawns a little at the empty camp. He scans about for signs of where they all went.

perfectly understandable. thanks for letting us know. enjoy the kids :)

brvheart |

Yes, enjoy the kids while they are there:)
Meantime, you all figure out no one has been here for several days, but it seems to be an active campsite.

Sorek |

"Well... No sign of any attack. Looks like whoever this camp belongs to, they are gone for now. No telling for how long .. We don't know anything about them other than they have bad ale. No real reason to wait for them to return... Shall we get back on the trail to Rappan? "

A couple of days later:
You crest the last hill and finally the complex comes into view.
In stark contrast to the lush greenery of the hills lies a large sunken
graveyard laid out in the shape of a cross. Rather than towering
above the ground, the graves have settled into depressions, and the
main mausoleum, a building of strange green stone, rests in the
deepest depression some 40 ft. below the ground on which you
now stand. At the other end of the grave-filled hollow stands what
appears to be a stone well. There are no gravestones near it. The
normal sounds of wildlife are gone, and large carrion birds circle
overhead. An ominous silence rests about the place. Each of you
knows in your heart that you have found the legendary dungeon of
Rappan Athuk. And though none dare speak it, you wonder if you
will live to return to the warmth of hearth and home.
You are all healed by this time.

Sorek |

"Yes...Cheery indeed. Let's head towards the mausoleum that may be an entrance. but let's take our time and be wary of traps"
As we get closer, Sorek begins scanning to detect evil

In the courtyard is a life-sized statue of a dwarf on a 4 ft. by 4 ft. stone block. He looks to have been a great warrior, and dwarven runes adorn the front of the pedestal. This rather large tombstone, crested with the statue of a dwarf, seems to have been visited frequently.

Sorek |

"Lom or Aggy can you read those runes?"
While waiting for their translation Sorek inspects the statue looking for anything else of interest and detecting for magic

The dwarven runes read “Blessed is he who spares these stones/And cursed be the man who moves my bones.” Examination of the base of the statue (DC 8 Perception) reveals a small compartment that is easily opened.

Sorek |

"I don't think opening a hidden compartment in the statue would be considered "Moving his bones". If it's not trapped I think it's worth seeing what's inside. "
Sorek concentrates on the compartment detect Magic while waiting for opinions from the rest of the group

Mojo Sniffagem |

Mojo takes the opportunity to check thoroughly for traps and search around the statue area. But he doesn't expect such a well-worn place to hold many surprises. But he follows orders from Sorek and is diligent and careful.
Perception(+4 secret doors/+6 traps): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19

Myrick of Muir |

Myrick attempts to sense if the statue is evil aligned.
"If we place a blessing upon his bones, it could bring good tidings. Then again opening the drawer could drop us into a pit. The little drawer there is pretty obvious. I don't suppose it would hurt to have a look as long as our intentios were good, and it is determined to not be trapped."

brvheart |

You find no traps nor detect evil from the statue, but you get the feeling as if you are being watched.

Lomyldyr Dweo-Mercraeft |

Lomyldyr nods in respect, "I can't believe I stand on Rappan Athuk! This is where the Army of Light finally met their demise. So much history! I tremble at the opportunity to explore these infamous ruins."
He frowns at the dwarven statue after detecting magic on it. "I'm with Lars on this one. We're here to kill demons not pillage graves. Why take the chance?"
He moves to carefully check the external facade of the mausoleum. He will detect magic on the door.

This is a huge stone building, its outer side carved in a grisly bas-relief of demons, devils and other creatures of the underworld. Hundreds of skulls have been carved into the stone. The building extends fully 60 ft. long and is over 40 ft. wide. There is a set of carved stairs leading down to a set of huge iron doors. Ringing the top of the building are numerous demonic statues made of a strange green stone. They seem to stare at the PCs.
