Zoli Tileani |
As they walk outside, looking to see if anyone else is listening, Zoli says, "Morythine, your right, it's Ameiko's family business, and one of the most profitable in Sandpoint. I've seen Mr. Kaijutsu of course, but we've never spoken. Tsuto's note says that Mr. Kaijutsu might actually 'have had something to do with Sandpoint’s recent troubles with the goblins, and I didn’t want to bring the matter to the authorities because we both know he’d just weasel his way out of it.' If that's true -- I don't know why Mr. Kaijutsu would have any reason be involved with goblins, but if it really is -- then we probably don't want to just go up and tell them what we're looking for. And of course we don't have any authority to search the glassworks, so what do we do then?"
Walking on a bit, she starts to answer her own question. "We could knock on the door, and ask if we can talk to Tsuto or Ameiko. That'll certainly get to Mr. Kaijutsu though, and if they aren't there, or if Mr. Kaijutsu really isn't letting Ameiko go, well, they wouldn't tell us that."
"We could ask around in the neighborhood, see if anyone's seen Tsuto recently, and try to find him to talk to him."
"We could watch the entrance of the glassworks, to see who comes and goes, and try to question Tsuto if we see him, or just find someone leaving and try to get information out of them. Xamarath, if the one leaving's a woman, maybe you could do the questioning." Zoli says half-seriously, smirking at him.
"And of course we could sneak in to look for clues, at night, like Kendra Lightfoot in The Lies of Lady Lightfoot. It's probably not our very first move...but I've always wanted to do something like that."
Turning to her fellow conspirators she asks, "What do you think? And what haven't I thought of?"
I'm leaning toward a combo of watching the glassworks, asking around, and possibly sneaking in at night as well.
DM Thron |
Shalelu says, "You all find Ameiko, and try to see if Lonjiku really is involved, like Tsuto claims. I need to head back into the wilds and keep an eye on the goblins." She then rolls up her map and returns it to her pack before saying, "Please find Ameiko, she is a friend of mine and I would hate it if anything happened to her, but the town's needs have to come first." She then heads out of the inn and out the north gates.
When the group arrive at the Glassworks, they find the building curiously silent. Neighbors have noticed the lack of traffic into and from the building, but since the furnace chimney still plumes with smoke, most assume that the building was simply closed to allow Lonjiku and his workers some privacy while they worked on a big project. A quick investigation of the building perimeter reveals that curtains have been drawn over the windows and all the doors are locked.
I will need more details regarding how you all want to look into this and perhaps some appropriate rolls to give more information than this.
Zoli Tileani |
Zoli will look around for how many entrances the building has, and if there are inconspicuous places to watch them from (coffee shop tables, shaded arches, even rooftops)
DM Thron |
The building has four doors, the main entrance, a back door with stairs leading down to the beach, a loading entrance, as well as an entryway marked for business clientele. There also appear to be several skylights on the roof of the business.
Neighboring the glassworks is the monastery, The house of Blue Stones. Further down the street is the local bakery, Sandpoint's Savories. Aside from that, the remaining buildings are residences.
Morythine Ettes |
Morythine’s instinct is to break into the Glassworks immediately and begin sneaking around. They have, after all, been deputized by Sheriff Hemlock – or at least close enough by the dhampir’s estimation. However, he can see the wisdom in at least waiting until dark – and seeing if anyone comes or goes from the place in the meantime.
The House of Blue Stones intrigues him. ”What is that place?” he asks Zoli.
Perception (observing the Glassworks): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
More interested in the monastery than the Glassworks by that roll.
Eugeni Silva |
"Why do we need to sneak about? This is a place of business, lets just go in," Eugeni says. He walks right up to the front door and knocks on it loudly. If there is no answer, he will try the handle. If it's locked, he will try the door marked for business customers the same way.
Eugeni Silva |
Would we get arrested if we broke in? We're deputies or whatever, and we have reasonable suspicion that something fishy is going on in the glassworks.
Eugeni Silva |
"Grrrr. I guess we wait for dark and break in when no one can see," Eugeni suggests to the others when trying the doors turns out to be useless.
"If we stand around in a group in plain sight though, we're eventually going to draw attention. I'm going to do wait on the beach I guess..."
DM Thron |
Zoli is making a lap around the building, trying to get a feel for the various entrances into the facility, when she picks up on some odd sounds from inside. The rumble of the Glassworks is plainly audible, but obscured but still present, she hears some high-pitched giggling, shrieks, and breaking glass.

Wow you guys like to NOT notice things. Fortunately, this BARELY got it. I'm going to assume she flags Eugeni down and stops him from getting too far away.
White rectangles are doors, all locked. Light blue rectangles are windows, all covered by curtains.
Zoli Tileani |
Whispering, Zoli exclaims "Eugeni, did you hear that? It sounded like someone giggling, and then shrieks and broken glass. What's going on in there? Why don't you listen at that window and I'll listen at the door."
Zoli Tileani |
"It goblins!" She just about jumps up and down with emotion, barely managing to keep her tone to a vehement whisper. "You can tell, can't you? Goblins!
"You go get the rest of the gang. I'll pick the lock. I won't open the door til you guys get here, but hurry!!"
She pulls out her tools and starts to fiddle with the lock, as quietly as she's able.

I'll bring up the rear.
Zoli Tileani |
Seeing that everyone has gathered around her, Zoli motions for Morythine to follow right behind her, and for the rest of the crew to stand ready should they shout out.
Then she opens the door as quietly as she's able, just enough to peer inside.

Still at the steps of the entrance, Xamarath whispers, "I believe I'll stick to the rear. Confined spaces and knee-high goblins seems like a volatile situation, indeed. " The Thayvian flashes Crichton a knowing look, and the bird bobs around in place to keep a watchful eye towards the back.
Zoli Tileani |
From the corner, Zoli motions the rest to follow her slowly and as quietly as they can manage, and points to the blood on the floor.
Staying 30' ahead, together with Morythine, Zoli continues up to the door the blood disappears through. She listens briefly at the door and then cracks it open to take a peak.

The sounds you have been hearing have definitely been coming from the room on the other side of this door. As you open the door inch by inch, all you can make out is the side of a large stone furnace.
In order to see more of the room, you will almost have to open the door all the way...do you? DO YOU!?!?
Zoli Tileani |
Zoli motions for the rest of the crew to inch a bit closer and get their weapons out. Then -- rapier in hand -- she opens the door as far as she has to to see inside.
Chaldira Zuzaristan, it's time to throw myself into some serious trouble. May your luck always overflow, and may some of it land over here!
DM Thron |
As the others of the party move up at Zoli's signal, the noise of the roaring glass furnace helps to muffle the sounds of their approach. Zoli opens the door further and further, until finally she can see inside, and sees a pair of goblins laughing about something.
Just then, however, Xamarath's robe catches the edge of a display table in the hallway, and the glass vase that was sitting there comes crashing to the floor. The two laughing goblins look at each other quizically, and they both look towards the open door and shriek.
They immediately hurl two panes of glass at the door, one whirling wildly over Zoli's head and crashes into the wall beside Morythine, but the other hits her square in the face, and the glass shatters and cuts her in several places. Shards of glass shower down over the two of them, covering the floor at their feet.
From further within the large chamber, a deeper voice can be heard calling out:
Another Goblin comes bolting around the corner, a pair of tongs holding molten glass in his hand. He swings the dripping tongs at Zoli, who manages to dodge the swing.
Throughout the chamber, the sound of gleeful goblins rises up as they charge down the room, excited for a fight.
Morythine, from his vantage point, is able to see two more goblins burst through the doorway and begin charging down the hall, sadistic smiles on their faces.

The goblin beside him takes the opportunity to take a swipe at the warpriest, and manages to make a solid cut into his thigh, but it does not hinder the aasimar's focus on his prayer. "May Old Deadeye bless you all, and cause you to aim true!" He clutches his holy symbol with one hand as he does so, and it briefly glows green before everyone feels the divine presence of Erastil reassuring and guiding them. When he reaches the door, he kicks the door open. The room appears to be a display room, containing the shop where customers can browse the various glassware produced here. Bottles, windowpanes, and glasswork are the primary contents.

The blast hits the goblin that attacked Eugeni square in the chest, and it is obvious that the little thing is severely wounded.
An arrow whizzes past Kala's head, and further in the room, she can see a well dressed half-elf removing another arrow from a quiver, eyes already taking aim on her for another shot.
The goblins renew their assault on the intruders. One moves up and takes a swing at Xamarath, but it's injuries prevent it from putting enough effort into the swing. However, it does distract the mage enough for a second goblin to run past him, at which point it hops onto his back and wraps it's arms around the wizard's face and it's legs around his throat.
Kala is greeted with two more goblins, though only one can make it's way to her in this makeshift bottleneck. It swings at her with tongs dripping with molten glass, but she is able to dodge it's unwieldy weapon.
Meanwhile, in the side hallway, Morythine is greeted with the charge of the goblins there. His kick misses the furious goblin, but it's blade does not miss him. It delivers a small gash to his calf with it's miniature blade.

When a character or creature is not in immediate danger or distracted, it may choose to take 10 on some rolls (specifically, skill checks). Instead of rolling 1d20 for the check, calculate the result as if the die had rolled a 10. For many routine tasks, taking 10 makes them automatically successful. Distractions or threats (such as combat) make it impossible to take 10. In most cases, taking 10 is purely a safety measure—you know (or expect) that an average roll will succeed but fear that a poor roll might fail, so you elect to settle for the average roll (a 10). Taking 10 is especially useful in situations where a particularly high roll wouldn't help.
:/ Sorry, Zoli. Gotta roll that acrobatics.
Kala Steelheart |
If she's only jumping 5 feet she can't possibly fail since a 1 isn't an auto fail on skill checks. You are correct about taking 10 but it's rather moot due to her +8 and a really short jump.
"Xamarath, I'll try clear a path for you! This way!" Kala says as she swings at the goblin between herself and the red wizard. As she turns to swing at the goblin, Kala steps on a shard of the plate glass that somehow manages to pierce the thick leather sole of her boots, causing her shield bash to miss wildly. She manages to recover and stabs the goblin in the arm with her sword, scoring a decent blow.
"Seven Hells! We have to get him out of there, help me clear a path."
