I have come to regain the honor of my family, as the last scion on the Torghym house!

This by Phylotus. My crunch will be held on this page from now on. Also, first one two pages in a row! Sweet!

I honed my background a bit based on the information given about the Houses and such... I'd be glad to tweak it more if anyone wants to link backgrounds... Just let me know. Be happy to have made friends with any of you pre-game.

Want to join the next big religious thing?

and what, pray tell, dear boy IS the next big religious thing?

by the way - congrats on making the top 16 last year!!! that's an awesome achievement!

hmmm... Asmodeus, eh? would i have to become LE? I'm not sure I see her that committed to being law-abiding. Evil, yes, lawful... have to think on that one...

... convince me... lol

Salacious was a youth going about her duties managing the stupid males as they slop the slaves. She was cruel to her drones. Her sublime beauty made seduction easy. She would regularly pull them in with seduction, then cruelly devalue them with despicable sex acts that she forced them to perform. She would use these tricks to keep them down and subservient.

She would frequently pull a drone to a empty quiet room.

Salacious's predictability would be her downfall.

Her jealous sister, Slavinuis, disguised herself as a drone. She had always hated Salacious for her beauty, and for being favored by their mother. When the moment was right, when the two sisters were alone, when Salacious had her defenses down. Her sister sprung the trap.

Slavinius cut off her sisters face, and had her body spirited to outside the city walls. Naked and alone and left to die.

Salacious prayed for help; to help her live, to help her get revenge. She made a pact with demon lord Mestama. She was rewarded.

After she healed, she found a ceramic mask out in the city's dump. She uses it, not only to protect her identity, but to cover her butchered face. She has learned from other drow, that Slavinius is suspected of murdering her mother and taking over House Vakazar.

@Faeryl. I'd be ok with merging backgrounds

You figured it out, it's Asmodeus!! LE not required, NE and willing to be Ummm, "directed" will do nicely. Now just sign on the dotted line!!!

You flatter me! Fame is fleeting!

Now is the time to honor this year's finalists and to get your vote in for the winner!

I could see Salacious and Faeryl being friends, even maybe casual lovers before Slavinius attacked her. And/or maybe they escaped the city environs together, taking that caravan to Vothys... Surely there are ways to merge their backgrounds since both were users of sex in different ways to achieve their own ends.

I could see Faerys at least expressing an interest in listening to some proselytizing even if she isn't completely drawn in by it... at least not at first... she's lived her whole life under the taint of demonic blood... getting her to slip over even a little toward lawful and submit to the will of a devil might be a bit much for her... convince me... lol

@ Faeryl

It could be that Slavinius would be out to kill all allies of Salacious. Being a tiefling, she could probably have you murdered outright without need for subterfuge.

You could have escaped the city after being attacked by her guards. I could have learned of my mothers murder from you.

I can see alot of benefit for having a common enemy

Sounds like a plan.. I could see Slavinius trying to kill Faeryl if she had a reason... would JUST being a tiefling be enough?, but until Faeryl had to flee the city, she had a lot of powerful friends, so that might have prevented an attempt before that....

If you were a friend to Salacious, then Slavinius would kill you to secure the house against any uprising (coup style). I'm sure there was a huge bloodletting before it was over.

yeah, that makes sense!

How about a silent killer Ninja?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Wow, the thread blew up whilst I was busy playing some Magic the Gathering!

CE can be an alignment with careful schemers too. One of my favorite examples of this was Graz'zt the Dark Prince from 3.X and earlier. Definitely one of my favorite demon princes because of his scheming and the way that he layered plans so that if you took action A, which was highly likely, then you accomplished his goal directly and even if you took option B, you still set things up nicely for him.

Jaelryn, the houses will have varying roles to play, depending on which book we're in. They don't really have an actual PHYSICAL presence for quite some time, though appear in the spoilers for later books as playing a pretty large role. Of course, a GM may or may not alter this, which I will neither confirm or deny is going to be a thing! :P

Lessah, there ARE some pack animals from Azathyr that you may be interested in. Are you planning on buying one?

Black Dow, Hobgoblin or Bugbear are both fine options, though Bugbears will always have a special place in my gaming heart, floppy-eared brutes that they are! I have some great stories about using Bugbear assassins against some PCs, the antics of which were quite memorable. One of them failed a Stealth check, which led to a very comedic exchange between each other and the PCs, whereupon the one smart Bugbear threw down a smoke bomb to cover their escape. They later succeeded in the ambush and took down two party members before being fireballed into oblivion by the pyromaniac wizard.

HighonHolyWater, is silent killer an archetype or just a description? And yes, it is definitely fine!

4 DAYS UNTIL APPLICANT DEADLINE!

11 DAYS UNTIL MAXIMUM FINALIZING DEADLINE!

That said, if everyone has their crunch/fluff finalized once the applicant deadline is up, then I may just go ahead and do selections.

I updated my background a little to include some relations to the Houses. The fluff of it may go through more modification if/when I meet other players and we decide to meld our backgrounds a little, but the gist is pretty much set. Perhaps it might be further modified depending on who makes the final cut (that's if I am picked to play, of course.)

I believe Silent Killer is one of your Ability Score Bonus Packages actually. :-)

I know the SK is an ability score package, I just thought he meant some archetype that I had never heard of. On that note, I'm probably going to go ahead and get some sleep before I derp like that again this morning!

Perfect GMOofA - glad you allowed Bugbear as that's the race I really envisioned - will run with that.

Will get some crunch pulled together over the course of the day and some background material also - like Faeryl I'll make it somewhat generic and if lucky enough to be selected will tie in with any drow masters or mistresses looking for a cold right hand.

I've a couple questions for you GM:

Is there a word in this setting for a house-less drow other than exile, outcast, loner, etc.? I thought there was one in the Drizzt books, but I couldn't find anything after a quick google search.

Details:
By all intents and purposes Tazennin has no affiliation with a house, having been cast out of House Sathys. He is primarily driven by his interest in perfecting the art of killing with the bow and I imagine he would be interested in pulling in more drow to begin using the composite longbow favored by the hated surface elves, possibly even going as far as creating a unit of elite drow soldiers trained in mounted archery. Tazennin cares not for what is or isn't traditionally "drow", i.e. the fact that they prefer to use the hand crossbow over other bows, he simply believes that the CLB is more devastating in combat, and therefore is the superior option. I also really like the idea that while he happens to use a wooden bow, the fact that wood is scarce in the darklands drives him to seek out and perfect how to best construct bows using "grey wood". I am putting ranks into craft (bows) to reflect this. I imagine if the party has an alchemist, this would be something they could collaborate their efforts on.

Secondly, with the large gecko's ability to walk on walls/ceilings, will you be applying any negative modifiers to my actions if I am mounted hanging sideways or upside down?

Mounts:
While I do very much like the giant gecko as a mount, you mentioned earlier in the thread that you would compile a list of potential darklands mounts. Would you mind posting that or PMing me? I'm just curious as to what my options are.

Lastly, is there a darklands gazetteer provided in the books that you could post for us? I'm sure we'd all love to have more information about the immediate environs we'll be playing in, but if you are deliberately leaving the setting ambiguous and giving us free reign to develop our own stories and locations that's fine too, I just thought I would ask.

I'm sure I'll have more questions, but for now that is all.

Edit: Ah, now I remember the other thing I wanted to ask. Would it make sense for our characters to be outfitted with gear for travel? I.e. bedrolls, backpacks, mess kits, etc.? I'd rather not spend the time/gold on outfitting my character with all of this if it wouldn't make sense with how the campaign starts. Thanks!

Edit #2: They just keep flowing, apparently. I was wondering if we could take an extra campaign trait in place of one of our regular traits? I wanted to take the improved darkvision (makes sense for a CLB user) as well as the exile's stolen treasure (slightly reflavored to reflect the acquisition of my elven composite longbow).

@Animals - Why yes, yes indeed : )

*Hmm* On that topic: is there a players guide one should acquire somewhere =)?

@Houses - By houses I assumed Noble houses. I assume there are still commoners/merchants/bourgeois around or should one make sure include house affiliation ?

I've got my Stalker's crunch together; he'll be specializing in Steel Serpent and Thrashing Dragon styles. Working out his fluff now.

GM:
After doing some work in Hero Lab, it appears that the baseline giant gecko is only of small size and the riding gecko is only medium, so I believe I will need to choose a new mount unless there is a large version. Upon checking d20pfsrd I see this text listed under the riding gecko entry:

d20pfsrd wrote:
Larger than even what is commonly referred to as a giant gecko, these mammoth lizards have been specifically bred to be used as mounts for the drow. Prized for their ability to run along cave ceilings and sheer walls, these creatures require exotic saddles to ride. Use the statistics for a giant gecko with the giant template.

So I'm not quite sure what is going on with Hero Lab. I will do some more research.

GM Overseer of Azathyr first off i'd like to say that was a brilliant first post - a lot of information and it just really made me want to play.

I have a few questions first - Combat will it be done by maps? And also the pace of the game are you expecting a slow pace or a few updates a day?

I have a small idea some potential of a cast out noble drow(normal stats) alchemist with the vivisectionist archetype focused melee(feral mutigent for natural attacks) The fluff will be fluffy.. It will have some idea of getting back what was taken from me, some blood manipulation (drow are known for that) that would explain how i transform into a beast/vampire thing.

Here is Taecuss dyn Bru, the submission for markofbane. He is a neutral evil drow wizard (diviner: foresight). He’ll be arcane support for the group and a sage, with at least a +7 in all knowledge skills that would be +11 by third level. If there is another wizard, a witch or a magus in the group, he’d cooperate closely with them to maximize their spellbook selection.

His background, description and personality are in his profile, though I may be expanding on them as time allows.

"Welcome my fellow brother and sisters The Order of the Jade Star is here in Vothys to help pacify and conquer the great vastness of the Azathyr. Who here will join the Order and the cause?

Black Dow's Bugbear character placeholder posted here: - Am still pulling together the crunch and fluff so its a rough beast at the moment.

Have PM'd GM Overseer on some racial build questions, have changed him to a Slayer (poss Stygian Slayer archetype) - see him as the slave turned slave hunter/overseer... much maligned from all, but valued as a brute instrument of terror...

So any House Vakazar players - come claim your "pet" :)

Backstory:

Arameth the destined, Son of Asmodeus, the name was whispered through Taaryssia. Through ritual and dark magic it was said the birth came about. Arameth’s mother Elisiasara was a high priestess of Asmodeus and trusted advisor to the Queen. Both were respected members of House Undorid. Rumors of the birth and how it came to be were whispered and found their way to even the queen’s ear. Fear came from the unknown and a dark destiny to unite the lands of Azathyr was something the queen did not care to hear. With proper maneuvering of the noble houses and money changing hands with which it needed to do so with Elisiasara found and unjust end. She had been banished with her son. The two were sent to Vothys, a forgotten city at the edge of the empire. Baroness Satha was not happy to receive such a gift, but was forced to do so. Since this she has done her part to make life hell for Elisiasara and her spawn. Arameth was a strong boy, blessed with the strength of Asmodeus himself. He was the son of a god and for this was hated. So hate grew in his heart as well as that is what he was taught. He was also taught resolve and a hunger for power from his mother. She told of the destiny she foresaw. His birth was planned and he would grow to be a living god, a walking symbol of Asmodeus. He get revenge on those that wronged his family and in doing so unite the drow more so than it has ever been.

Knowledge of this destiny made Arameth vain and proud. His temper was quick and those on the wrong side of it soon regretted their transgressions. It had been a few years now and Elisiasara had passed. It looked like an accident but Arameth had suspected the Baroness. The Baroness has grown bold and seeks to extend her power. For this she is forming an army. Aermath decided this would be the best way to conspire against her. He would join her army even help lead it against the deep gnomes in there take the an attempt to win favor. Once the men were loyal to him he would get revenge for his mother and from fight to Taaryssia itself and the queen.

Hope you like. I will make an alias if picked. As said I am very reliable. In two games that have been going 2 years on here and all other are a few months old. I can post at whatever pace you decide on. Thanks for the consideration.

Hmmm, for some reason a swashbuckler(inspired blade) seems perfect for this campaign. No only that, but I am considering playing a drow. Yes, I know that drow not common in most campaigns, but for some reason I get the feeling that a drow would be perfect or this one.

Tirion Jörðhár wrote:

I'm having a hard time telling if this is sarcasm or not. Either way, I love inspired blades and if I wasn't already playing a swashbuckler in another game, that's what I would've rolled for this one. I look forward to seeing your character.

Actually, on second thought, most of the 3PP animal companions that I was thinking about are on d20PFSRD. That's odd, but saves me the trouble! If someone wants a list of higher level mounts though, that's a different story.

There is no player's guide, oddly enough, but I can write up a gazeteer for you all! I would be very barebones, so as to keep the spoilers low, but that is with any AP PG, right?

Black Dow, not a problem at all! I miss Bugbears in Pathfinder, so it's awesome someone wanted to play as one!

Tazennin,

Driz'zt Book 2 wrote:
"Dobluth," she said to Drizzt, using the derisive drow word for outcast.

There will be a flat -2 penalty for attack rolls, AC, and REF saves while not properly oriented to the ground (i.e., clinging to a wall or ceiling via your giant gecko mount), with double the penalty when moving. This makes sense because I think it would be quite difficult to properly aim or dodge while doing so. I am considering adding a feat that can be taken at 4th level to negate those penalties, however.

Outfitting for travel is pretty much a necessity, even at the inception of the campaign.
You may take the extra campaign trait in place of a regular trait. Also, are you just wanting the composite longbow, as is, for your item? It seems a VERY large disparity between composite longbow and the 900GP limit of the trait! No masterwork or anything? Actually, send me a message about this, as I have an idea.
In regards to the Giant Gecko, there is the base one. Just add the Giant template normally. I think they just had an error on their website or something.

Lessah, you can be either from a House or be one of the 'commoners'. Any of those options are fine!

Ictoo, thanks for the compliment!
Combat will have maps available but I am aware that they are not 3D, so if combat ever becomes as such, we will wing it.
I would much prefer 2-3 posts per day, but some days might only manage a single post. Also, I understand that life happens and will not be overly upset if you miss a day or two. If you plan on missing multiple days, it would obviously be appreciated if you would let me know first so that I can GMPC your character as needed.

Xodar, nice catch that is THE Azathyr!

Ashe, I do indeed like it!

Tirion, I would certainly hope that Drow fit the campaign well! :P Swashbuckler is certainly a good fit as far as classes go.

@GM Overseer of Azathyr

I hope it was ok to play with house Vakazar history. (maybe I should have asked earlier:P) Is it OK if I fill more fluff by establishing some of its noble history?

Salacious, that is fine! As for the history, propose a few ideas to me via a PM to my inbox.

Hurkkagg, I am not of House Vakazar, but I assure you there is a place for you amongst those I will declare my overseers when I claim my domain, and that the rights afforded to you will be unprecidented compared to any other house. Help me carve my domain and the reward is yours.

So, who is from house Sathys and needs a bodyguard?

@Hurkkagg,

Background:

Current associates:

Faeryl Dusk

I plan on adding more fluff, except it needs to go through GM approval.

If you'd like to escape the bloody coup as Salacious' loyal servant, I'd be proud to be your mistress.

Lol - need to be more overt with my sarcasm.

Tazantahrac will be from House Sathys, but won't need a bodyguard so much as a flanking buddy. :-)

Silver Crusade

Perhaps Salazar SHOULDN'T have a deep hatred of House Sathys, what with so many people being from it XP

Silver Crusade RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16

So are all of you going with the drow nobility feats? It's no wonder Asmodeus chose a lowly commoner such as myself to leads his flock.

Silver Crusade

I was considering it, but I don't think I quite have the feats to do it as a ranged character

Liberty's Edge

I skipped over this thread initially but I just stopped by to check it out and I’m definitely interested. Also, welcome to Paizo PBP DMing!

I do have a few questions before I spend some time pondering a character.

What are your expectations as far as pacing (posts per day for example)?

What kind of tone do you expect for the campaign? How gritty/dark/not-good do you anticipate things getting?

What other PBPing have you done? What’s the biggest PBP commitment you’ve been involved in?

I have other character creation-related questions but I figured I’d hit you with the big ones first. =P

Feral, thanks for the welcome! To answer your questions, read below.

1. My expected posting rate is about 1-3 times a day. Most days will be around 2 posts a day, given that not everyone has the same schedule.

2. The tone of the campaign? It will be PG-13 for the most part with some R-rated moments. My aim, however, is to steer away from the 'worst bits of the Book of Vile Darkness' type stuff. The campaign is designed to be fun, not needlessly grimdark. Now the Razor Coast campaign that I am planning, however, will be a bit grittier but that is a whole different story!

3. Biggest PBP commitment? Does a 120K+ (5 PCs and 2 co-GMs) post Kingmaker campaign on Facebook count? :P

Liberty's Edge

Thanks for the quick turnaround.

As for #3 yes that counts. =)

Did you guys finish the whole AP or is it still going? How long did it takes you to get that far? Also, awesome!

As for my character creation questions:

1) I would absolutely love to play the party’s token ‘monster’. I have zero problem tying my story to someone else’s and otherwise being ostracized. I foresee myself creating a character to fill the party’s ranks as the muscle. Something like a minotaur would be a good fit. A trog or demon-blooded orc would work really well too. Is any of that workable for you?

2) I’ve gotten burned in a few games because the DMs were expecting super optimized combat machines I like to dabble with my characters most times. How intense do you intend for combats to be and should we go into this expecting a certain level of optimization?

3) How important do you expect a character’s backstory to be? Will you be focusing mostly on the provided campaign materials or will this be a character-focused campaign?

4) Are there any mechanics or options you’d prefer people to steer away from (save-or-die for example)?

Zahir, if I'm chosen, I'm not really planning on the nobility feats for Tazan.

I'm excited about the 2-3 post a day. Need something to keep me busy at work :)

I asked because everyone is "I'm house this, I'm house that" which sounds like nobility talk to this simple commoner.
