CLASS FEATURES A stygian slayer crawls out of the darkest shadows to strike fear into the hearts of civilized folk. He's a merciless killer who can control a sliver of magic, allowing him to arrive unseen, commit murder, and depart without detection. Weapon & Armour Proficiency:
A stygian slayer is proficient with all simple and martial weapons, as well as light armor, but not with medium armor, heavy armor, or any kind of shield (including tower shields). This replaces the slayer's weapon and armor proficiency. Studied Target (Ex):
[Errata] A slayer can study an opponent he can see as a move action. The slayer then gains a +1 bonus on Bluff, Knowledge, Perception, Sense Motive, and Survival checks attempted against that opponent, and a +1 bonus on weapon attack and damage rolls against it. The DCs of slayer class abilities against that opponent increase by 1. A slayer can only maintain these bonuses against one opponent at a time; these bonuses remain in effect until either the opponent is dead or the slayer studies a new target. If a slayer deals sneak attack damage to a target, he can study that target as an immediate action, allowing him to apply his studied target bonuses against that target (including to the normal weapon damage roll). At 5th, 10th, 15th, and 20th levels, the bonuses on weapon attack and damage rolls, as well as the bonus to slayer ability DCs against a studied, target increase by 1. In addition, at each such interval, the slayer is able to maintain these bonuses against an additional studied target at the same time. The slayer may discard this connection to a studied target as a free action, allowing him to study another target in its place. At 7th level, a slayer can study an opponent as a move or swift action. Track (Ex):
A slayer adds 1/2 his level (minimum 1) to Survival skill checks made to follow tracks. FEATS Intimidating Prowess (Combat Feat) - Racial Feat:
Your physical might is intimidating to others. Benefit: Add your Strength modifier to Intimidate skill checks in addition to your Charisma modifier. Scent of Fear (Monster Feat) - 1st Level Character Feat:
All bugbears smell fear, but some sense it far more keenly than others. These bugbears gain advantages against most foes and prove particularly dangerous against those whose spirits are curdled by terror. Prerequisites: Possess the scent ability, any evil. Benefit: You can track by smell and automatically pinpoint the location of opponents by scent alone if they are within 30 feet. In addition, you gain a +2 morale bonus on attack rolls against shaken or frightened opponents, and you can detect them at twice the normal scent range (120 feet, pinpoint at 60 feet). You gain a +2 bonus on all Will saves as long as a shaken or frightened target is in range. You cannot be surprised by anyone who is shaken or frightened within range of your enhanced sense of smell. APPEARANCE:
Pale narrowed eyes flash from the shadows before a hairy goblinoid brute slides forth from the dark. Jagged teeth flash in a wicked grin, as the dim light catches the numerous blades worn upon its person. The towering bugbear’s dark fur is marred with numerous brand marks and scars. The creatures large ears droop lankly from its wide head and brow furrowed in belligerence. Around its neck dangles a necklace of dried tongues. Moving in easy grace that belies its bulk, the bugbear draws forth a heavy bow, notched with arrow bearing the barbed head of the hunter. Wrinkling its blue tinged nose, the stooping hulk licks the air as if tasting a delicacy, then slowly and deliberately it pulls upon the bow, powerful muscles rippling under its hairy hide. In a rasping voice it speaks… the words of the Common Tongue coming forth haltingly from its tooth'ed maw: ”Run.” ”Little one.” ”Run.” Age: 7 years Height: 7'1 Weight: 393 lbs. BACKGROUND (Read in conjunction with Akor'maybryn's:
Hurkkagg slept. His heavy skull a vessel for dreams and memories that dripped and pooled like draining lifeblood. The bugbear smiled unconsciously as he slumbered - jagged teeth exposed, nose snorting, floppy notched ears twitching before he fell back into the deep breathes of deeper sleep. Dreams. Dreams of a stout pup coveted by clawing geblins until he was claimed by a shadow with lavender hair. Nesting in a leather satchel, the smell of oil and steel and the taste of strips of lizard meat fed by delicate fingers were his world. Hushed words and roughhouse swordplay with the shadow... as he grew. A happy time - a happy dream. Then iron collars, branding and the smell of burned fur. Once again the fetid geblins danced and skulked shared his new life. Others too... Yapping little dragon-kin, broken little deep people who cried and prayed, even a proud, beardless dwur. All hated and feared Hurkkagg. Still a pup, they slapped and poked and bit and hit - hurt until the shadow scattered them with whip and steel. Older. No more hurt. Hated and feared still, but for good reason. Big now. Bigger. Biggest. Stabbing and snapping the little ones is easy. The smell of their fear... Pounding hearts make a drum beat in his dreams. Warm piss and iron tang of blood a heady cocktail of surrender. Whimpers and tears of the desperate, the forlorn, the afraid. Dreams drift... The unknown shadow protector no longer. A name: Akor'maybryn. His Mistress. Serve her well. Kill for her. Hunt for her. In her shadow there is life. In her hands she wields death. Hurkkagg knows death, knows its taste, knows its scent. It smells right. The brute shifts again - snorting in his sleep. Wedge-like ears twitch and swivel as a words and booted impact drag him back. The voice, melodic in its hunger... both hard and soft at the same time. Familiar. "Come Hurkkagg. It is a new day and I smell death on the air. Vengeance is ours." Drowsy he only hears "smell, death, and vengeance." It is enough. The brutes eyes roll open and he yawns, all fangs and indigo tongue. Then smiles... |
