Yup. I took "Skill Focus (string instrument)" as one of my feats-- it really will help when pretending to be a bard... not so much when fighting weird plant monsters.

How do you know? Maybe they are vulnerable to high-pitched sounds. Go on, give it a try...

Mike: Regarding your comment on the Gameplay thread-- I think it would be a good idea to either remove downed foes' tokens from the map, or to mark them with something like a big red X.
What confused me is that I use a VTT (MapTool) for my regular in-person game (we have one remote player), and it looks a whole lot like the tactical map you're using. We use red shading to indicate wounded <50% hp; a big gray X to indicate unconscious, and a red X to indicate dead.

Mike, I think I might be missing a turn or so. I can't be entirely sure. Do you think at the end of each round when you're starting a new one, you could put a header at the top of your post saying like, "Round II" or what-not? maybe also repost the initiative list at the bottom (under a spoiler if necessary) that way we always have a readily accessible reference as to whose actions come before whose?
I think that'll avoid unfortunate AoE friendly-fire later on, too.

Mike the GM |

You're right, I'll start to more clearly indicate what round it is.
Part of the reason for this initial battle is to get these kinds of things sorted out. :) Thanks for the feedback.

Mike the GM |

Hey all, I like the Mechanics spoilers that you are using -- could you add your current/total hp to those spoilers as we go? Just a line that says "8/10 hp" (or whatever).

Mike the GM |

If you don't mind, Mike, I'll just add it to my Class section, so it jsut shows up under my name. Easier to remember.
That's actually even better. :)

Leynus: If I'm counting them correctly, the round after the last bad guy fell was when Val channeled energy, so you'd need to make an unmodified save for that round. If you fail that save, she'll tend your poison the round immediately following it, giving you the +4 bonus then.
Mike: If Leynus makes his first save, Val won't bother treating the poison, and will save the use of her healing kit.

Mike the GM |

The only reason you might wait to make the rest of your checks is to see if someone (like Valeria) might try to heal you or give you a bonus before you have to make those checks. :)

I don't know about you folks, but that used up most of my spells. I could definitely stand to finish off resting up and recharge before haring off. That being said, the trail will get cold. Glad to go along with the group consensus - just don't expect much sorcerous backup.

Valeria Baladin |

That does raise a question about home rules re: restoration of daily ability use: when do they refresh? There was an old 3.5 rule that if you used an ability within 8 hours of refresh, it counted as the next day's use, but I felt that tended to slow down gameplay. My group houseruled that abilities reset at dawn, regardless of when they were last used. I don't recall what the official PFRPG rules are, as we continue to use the houserule after we switched to PFRPG. (Still need to take half an hour in the morning to prepare them for the day.)
Mike: What's your expectation on that?

![]() |

Each day, sorcerers and bards must focus their minds on the task of casting their spells. A sorcerer or bard needs 8 hours of rest (just like a wizard), after which she spends 15 minutes concentrating. (A bard must sing, recite, or play an instrument of some kind while concentrating.) During this period, the sorcerer or bard readies her mind to cast her daily allotment of spells. Without such a period to refresh herself, the character does not regain the spell slots she used up the day before.Recent Casting Limit
Any spells cast within the last 8 hours count against the sorcerer's or bard's daily limit.

I would like to go by the rules Akshara quoted. That being said, if you're careful you should be able to avoid any future night ambushes, thus eliminating the problem. In the meantime, you are not far from the citadel; you can reach it by early evening if you set out immediately after resting again.
In the sake of moving things along, that is what I will assume you choose to do.

"She," Anton corrects. "Proper nomenclature is important. You would not wish to be properly mislabeled as a female ...or as a true knight."
Ouch! Will Bellicus shove Anton over the cliff for that zinger?

Forgive me if I slow down my posts so that I can sit back and read Pathfinder #71: Rasputin Must Die!
I have so far only skimmed the PDF, but... WOW!!!!
This looks AMAZING!

I'm figuring as far as marching order goes, this might work:
AK | BE
AN | EL
LE | VA
TE |
Akshara and Belicarus in the front, Anton and Elion in the next row for mobility (Elion can move forward to aid in sneak attacks and anton can go forward or backwards depending on melee or spellcasting). Leynus and Valeria in the next row as they're more spellcaster than melee and teral in the way back with Valeria a 5-foot step away to aid him if we get jumped from behind.

Hey, after the loyalty Bellicus has inspired, I wouldn't be surprised if he finds himself stabbed in the back!
And I've also glanced through Rasputin Must Die! That name alone was enough to get me to purchase an AP subscription, and from what I've seen, I'm not disappointed.

Our local game just started up the first section in Reign of Winter (I actually started up my AP subscription just in time to collect it). I'm having a blast so far, although about half of that is probably because of the Drunken Brute dwarven barbarian I'm playing.
In other news, sorry for not chiming in yesterday. Some combination of my phone or the forum seems to have eaten my contribution.

Haha!
Sorry for the slowness on my action, this week was very busy at work.
@Mike: Akshara is going to designate her adjacent allies as "protected" so if any of them come under a successful attack, she will use her "suicidal" trait as a swift action to make the attack target her AC instead. She can do this 1/day and will use it at the first opportunity.

Teral Saevus |

Question: Did I happen to get an attack of opportunity as that rat passed through my longspear's reach, or was I still too surprised? Just in case I got lucky, here's the attack roll:
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Aaaand never mind.

Mike the GM |

O.K., that jump would have looked totally cool if Akshara hadn't already killed that rat :-). I've got to stop jumping the gun! And now I'm probably dying of bubonic plague <sigh>.
"Hiyaaaaah! Hey, where'd he go?"

Mike the GM |

Let me know where you'd all like to go next.
Also let me know how you'd like to make decisions about where to go. Discuss in character? Simple voting? Use a "party caller" who decides where the group goes (with input from everyone else)?

Teral Saevus |

I'd suggest discussing in-character. But I'll also go with majority vote.
Agreed. I sort of think we should go with a combination - discuss things IC, but mention your preference here in discussion as well, just so we can get a quick tally easily.
