That will teach me to try to count when I have had no sleep. Opps.

Morana Soto |

So we need some creepy things that a cult has been doing that we are looking into, right?
Do we want to be looking into people making pacts with Devils and keep it close to what we are doing? Or the creepy sacrifices, recruiting youths, pacts with outsiders?

Soren Marsailles |

I would suggest we try to tie as many of the things we need to do to destabilize the Wall to the cult as possible. We will, in all likelihood, need to kill some people and do things of that nature. I'd suggest we have reason to believe there are devil-worshipers around who are gaining profane powers by making pacts with outsiders and making humanoid sacrifices. That way, when we need to kill people all we have to do is try and make the scene of their death look as much as possible like a cult killing or a sacrifice in order to cover our tracks. As the lead investigators, that shouldn't be hard.

Morana Soto |

I am ok with that. I assumed and I think we discussed before that we wanted it to be something that we could use as a cover what we are actually doing.

Grumble Jack |

We might not even need to go that far. All we really need to do is say that we have strong suspicion that the new Sons of the Apocalypse are in town, but we don't know why. Then whatever we do just becomes the cult's plan.
They were a doomsday cult trying to bring about the end of the world. Trafficked with Daemons. Served the Four Horsemen. It doesn't get more crazy and destructive than that. When folks like that show up, it doesn't matter why they're there. Just their presence alone is going to scare the crap out of people.

Soren Marsailles |

I agree, I was more suggesting that we plant the idea that these sorts of things are likely going to start happening when the "cult" shifts into high gear; this both covers our tracks and makes people more susceptible to believing anything else we tell them. We were right about the human sacrifice and all that, why would we be wrong now?
Still, there's definitely not a reason to do anything too crazy in regards to that yet. We'll just cover stuff up as we go along.

Grumble Jack |

Well, from what I know of the original cult, things like summoning demons, kidnapping and ritually sacrificing people, and mass casualty events like starting widespread fires, purposefully spreading plagues, poisoning wells, burning crops, destroying food storage, and killing livestock were their schtick. Basically, they were about trying to kick off the end of the world by starting their own localized apocalypses. They make us look like reasonable, wholesome fellows.
Anyone with a decent knowledge history or knowledge religion will probably piss themselves if we suggest that they're back in action and hiding in town.
King Markadian the First made his name by taking these guys out. They were the Big Bad Evil Guy for this kingdom's founder.

Morana Soto |

I second the question. Where is this info. Also just referencing that group should be enough.

Grumble Jack |

I'm not sure where it is. This is something like the 10th Way of the Wicked game I've been in. Most of them die off after the prison break. None of them have ever made it past 6th level, but I've picked up a lot of information about the lore of the setting between all those different GMs.
You would not believe the number of different ways I've played through escaping Branderscar Prison.

Soren Marsailles |

Yeah, that seems to be a pretty similar problem with Way of the Wicked games; someone's running a recruitment right now that's specifically for players whose games died after they escaped Branderscar, funnily enough. I've seen similar problems with Kingmaker, a lot of those games tend to end once players start actually building their kingdom. Something about that just seems to gut the game's spirit, I guess.
The real question is, which was your favorite escape from Branderscar Prison?

![]() |

I've only been in two WotW games, this one and one where I'm a goblin. Both are still running, with the other just a bit behind us right now.

Grumble Jack |

My favorite escape was the very first WotW game I was in. We treated it as a SpecOps mission. We were all built for stealth and we went through the whole prison area by area assassinating everyone. We ended up killing Warden Richter in his sleep, stealing pretty much everything that wasn't nailed down, and lighting the whole place on fire.
When a wizard is killed, their familiar goes back to normal after 24 hours, so we let his owl familiar go, knowing it would run for help.
We killed Sergeant Blackerly and left his body sitting in a chair in front of the gatehouse with his ledger in his lap. (His ledger was evidence that he's been running an illegal gambling ring and embezzling funds from the prison for years)
The only one we left alive was the kitchen maid, who was locked in the food storage room safe from the fire while the whole prison burned down around her.
In the cell we all started out in, my character wrote the following in pitch, so the investigators would find the words burning on the wall-
WHAT YOU HAVE SOWN WE SHALL REAP

Soren Marsailles |

Sounds a lot more interesting than our escape, actually. It took us 3 GMs to kill two guards, let you out of your cage, fight our way down some stairs and out into a courtyard before running away.

Grumble Jack |

Bahahahaha! Yeah, we had a pretty rocky start. I'm glad we finally came into our own. This game has been a blast.
I wonder if we will ever see Warden Richter or Sergeant Blackerly again in this game.

Soren Marsailles |

As am I. Every once and a while I remember that of the original four, Soren is the only one who's still with the group. Nate's player ended up switching, and the other two left the game at varying points. It's funny, because I consider the crew we left Branderscar with the "OG" party, if you will, even though most of you were recruited after people left the game. That said, I love our little motley band of villains, I think we make a good team.
And of course, a shout out to our wonderful GM for picking up the game after it was dropped by two GMs--or rather, the same GM using a different account--and carrying us all the way here.
I would love to see those two again personally, I'd imagine Blackerly in particular was probably whomever beat her within an inch of her life. I'd think she'd enjoy returning the favor.

Bringing new PCs into that chaos was tricky to be sure!
I agree I like this group and hope that the PCs stick around for a while.
Rest assured Grumble, this is one WoTW that will be completed. In the Fall of 2017 I will complete my 3rd D&D table top chronicle (this time level 1-18) in a row that had a set start and finish. Then onto my first table top villains campaign set in the Forgotten Realms where the PCs will be agents of the Zhentarim (until Zhentil Keep is destroyed) then agents of Chaos for Cyric the Mad. That one will go to about Level 21 or 22. Should be complete around 2021...
That said, I have one other thread that I need to update and then will come back and push the story here forward.

I hope you had a good holiday season, Lothryin. I know all too well about real life kicking your ass, so I'm glad you're back in the swing of things.
GM, if you feel like anything Soren says requires a Bluff check and I don't roll it, just assume she takes a 10. That gives her a 28.

28? You need more skill points, who can you bluff with that subpar score? :-)

She's just showing off. :D

Soren Marsailles |

Showing off? Pssh.
If I were showing off I'd mention she has a +18 Stealth, a +16 Diplomacy and Disable Device, and all of her other skills are around a +11/13. Except Profession (Sailor), but she just started. She doesn't know how to sail a boat that well yet. Come to think of it, I don't know that she's ever been on a boat... she doesn't have any ranks in Swim.
What can I say? I like skill monkeys. I play a lot of them. The amount of skillful characters I play here on the boards is probably a lower percentage than normal, and even then it's pretty high. I was playing a Paladin for a while and I cried at my 2 + Int points per level.

Morana Soto |

That makes me feel bad, my numbers are so low :(

Morana Soto |

Skill monkeys are my favorite. I cannot help it. It makes me jealous. I have issues ok! And I am not working on the :P I also play so few casters that it is weird. I am a bad mage. That one I am working on, well trying to anyways :)

Morana Soto |

Vaundour is well behavied. I am not sure where all of this 'threatening his manly bits happens'

Soren Marsailles |

He's been a good little boy for a while; he mostly gets threats to his genitals when he hits on Soren.
I'm sure he'll slip up again eventually.

Soren Marsailles |

Tell me about it. It would work for about twenty minutes at a time every few hours, just long enough to trick me into trying to get things done.
I sent the same PM four times today.

Grumble Jack |

Writing as Sir Jack is interesting. I keep having to go back and re-write stuff to change any words with more than two syllables and strip out adverbs. Modifiers and extra description aren't really something Grumble does.
Now that the groundwork has been laid, I'm hoping to be able to step out of the spotlight and let you folks do the social stuff you are built for. Thanks for going along with this crazy scheme. It's been fun for me.

Morana Soto |

I like what you have done Grumble. Lovely framework for evil! It is fun to read and I fear bungling it.

Grumble Jack |

I kind of think of Grumble as an idiot savant. He's not very bright, but between being an Antipaladin and Daemon-spawn, he has an instinctive grasp on how to sew the most possible evil. He probably couldn't explain how or why, but it's hard to argue with his results. :)

Morana Soto |

Every time I typed something up in the gameplay before work the website would flip out and eat my posts.
Also well done party faces! I would believe that one :)

Morana Soto |

It is mean and does not like me. I think it is has something to do with what ever the goblin druid did to the dice rollers cat. I was not involved but I was in the party with the goblin druid.

Grumble Jack |

1) make liberal use of the "copy" function before posting.
2) use the "preview" button to test.
Sorry the postmonster is gunning for you. I know how frustrating that can be.

Morana Soto |

Damn humble bundles! I got out of the habit of copy, shame on me.

Morana Soto |

Supposedly there is bad weather coming in so if I do not post that means I have lost power.

Soren Marsailles |

I mean, we have them in my area because we have no choice. I live next to the ocean, so you can't really have anything below ground... it's actually illegal to have a basement where I live according to the housing codes, since it'll flood if you so much as look at it funny. I don't even have to dig a hole that's as deep as I am tall for it to start flooding, which is kind of sad.
