The oregon trail, how it came to be

Game Master DEWN MOU'TAIN

A spin on the game the oregon trail. Adventurers will bravely head west, plotting potential course routes for settlers to utilize. They will brave unknown lands, hazardous weather conditions, and hostile natives just to help expand the territory of the US.

would my character already be at the colony/settlement or are we still in transit? I am trusting if the former is the case that the tools will be provided somehow on site, lugging around a massive printing press as a wizard doesn't sound realistic...

you are still in transit. why dont you read up the gameplay and see where things are at right now....

Ready and Able GM do you want me to go in right now?

Sorry I have been away from much internet since I posted here last. Enough for the odd post, but not enough to set up an alias. I hope I haven't missed my spot, but would obviously understand. I can have him set up tmrw.

i am looking for two more players for my campaign. as the title says, this story is about the Oregon trail, or rather the precursor to it. this was inspired by the game the oregon trail.

what do i need? well, since I made a tweak within the setting and how encounters work, the group needs a healer of some sort. The problem with this is that magic is viewed upon with suspicion, unless you are a member of the holy religions. You can look at some of my first postings to learn more about the custom setting that ive created.

Feel free to ask questions and read through what has been played so far to see if you can handle the game.

[shameless bump]

[giving this one last try]

So, I could try to make a human life oracle. Focused on healing and buffing, thoughts?

FYI Gilthanis- we actually have a character now taking levels in Life Oracle. So, we have all the "standard" bases covered except an arcane caster. There are some pretty big setting restrictions on arcane casting.

Rizzen is very good with working towards the strengths/weaknesses of the group - feel free to post any kind of character.

Sorry to have disappeared for ages without a word. I got rather caught up in the birth of my first child. If I haven't burnt all my bridges, I would be interested in actually getting Professor Bradley, my arcane healer bard actually started. I fully understand if I have and wish you luck if that is the case. Realistically it would be the weekend before I could actually put up his completed profile.

gilthanis, you could make a life oracle if you wanted. while the bases are covered, i let players play what they want to play, and dont pigeon hole them into something lesser. so if there are two oracles in the group, well, one can prophesize, the other can debate, lol.

Wilhelm, i like your professor, so i have no problem having you join up. I know a way of having you join the group where they are at this time. All i ask is that you at the very least, create an avatar for the professor prior to posting.

Cool, well i will try and sort that out tmrw. I may even get the whole thing done tmrw we will see.

i will bow out, can't think of something to play. Enjoy Wilhelm :)

is there room for another character audition?

Yes there. Glad to see you again viluki. Still wanting to conquer Oregon and build a pro arcane country?

Yep but with a new character this time around... I will need some time to get this guy up.

The student:

Lazzaro Cassano was once a promising young man, he was destined to go to the great Seminaries in Rome and become an ordained priest of the faith. Yet this was not to be, Lazzaro had always been a curious man and eventually his gaze wondered onto a book... The Prince to be precise, this was naturally a book the church frowned upon. Indeed the church included it in the Index Librorum Prohibitorum, yet Lazzaro was curious to know what made the church, so mighty and powerful afraid of one little book...

Lazzaro soon learned that they were right to be afraid of this little book, very afraid... In this book all illusions, all lies were stripped away and the naked, ugly truth was shown to Lazzaro. Why should a man kneel to a weak, pathetic god so lacking in vitality and desire? Why should a man surrender all earthly ambitions for such a being who may not even exist...

Lazzaro left Rome that day, he went to Florence the birthplace of Niccolò Machiavelli. There he learned the truth of things, or more accurately that there is truth in power. Faith by contrast is a lie, if god is so mighty then why does he not actually control his own rampant, corrupt priesthood?

A Florentine Education:

In Florence Lazzaro got an "education", he soon proved to have both charisma and natural, biting wit. Lazzaro had a knack for knowledge, oration and politics. Soon he learned at the feet of the great masters, the bards.

Bards have always existed in one form or another, they are the one form of the arcane that no amount of persecution can stamp out. They are also the form of the arcane that everyone in one way listens to, they control the presses, gossip in the streets and prove that indeed "the pen is mightier then the sword".

Lazzaro having completed his "education" set forth to America, the land of opportunity. He plans to set up shop in Oregon where the political landscape is still very much malleable...

Personality:

Lazzaro is governed ultimately by ambition, followed closely by "earthly" wisdom (e.g Machiavelli's wisdom not the Church's). To Lazzaro the idea of being a part of the "flock" (e.g sheep) is abhorrent, The Prince opened his eyes wide and showed him the truth. One could say that the Prince showed Lazzaro a "new" morality, or more accurately the morality of the ancients (Romans) who were truly wise...

Lazzaro is erudite, witty and ultimately cynical. Yet there is also an underlying order to his actions, every word he speaks is calculated, every action despite appearances is not random. Everything Lazzaro does ultimately fits into his master plan, his great ambition: Governor of Oregon.

Ok this is my submission, this character is designed to be the ultimate social bard (this will fully kick in at level 6 when he gets access to versatile performance: Comedy). His Spellcasting lends itself quite well to his role, this guy won't hurl fireballs but he will sure as hell mess with your mind (he doesn't even need his magic to do that)...

i like it. a lot. and you just gave me something to read at night...been meaning to look into Machiavelli.

i am going to write you in as well.
