Once the invasion begins, you can decide which of the Ironfang forces are targeted by the blast and when to detonate. When triggered, the breaching charges will deal 4d6 fire damage and 4d6 bludgeoning damage to one encounter's enemy forces. Of course, this is assuming that Thorek's check to place them was successful, which you won't find out until the time comes to detonate the charges...

...

Also, how many readiness checks do you want to apply for the following day?

If you do one, then you can still make it to an enemy camp by midday.

If you do two, you can still make it to an enemy camp by mid afternoon.

If you do three, you won't have time to strike any of the camps that day.

Loot:

In addition to the keys to the two locked buildings, you recover the following items from the Ironfang personnel, captured or slain:
- 1 Wand of Cure Light Wounds (40 charges)
- 6 flasks of Acid
- 18 flasks of Alchemist's Fire
- 4 smokesticks
- 4 tanglefoot Bags
- 10 smoke pellets
- 48 tindertwigs

- 2 suits of +2 leather armor
- 4 bombchuckers
- 4 MWK shortswords

- 2 +1 chain shirts
- 2 heavy crossbows
- 2 cloaks of resistance +1
- 2 bandoliers
- 1 MWK thieves' tools
- 1 MWK siege engine tools

@Thorek - Yes, you can do it in that order.

@Daria - Yes. In fact, given the pending invasion, the various churches and organizations in Longshadow are keen to get any equipment available. Thus, you can barter for a Restoration spell and the loot you offer in exchange will be worth 75% value (as opposed to selling for 50% value in cash).

Creating false orders to deceive the Legion requires a Linguistics check, but having the genuine orders recovered from the infiltrators will provide a +4 bonus since they can be used as models to make your forgeries and handwriting look more genuine.

I believe Lily has the best Linguistics modifier, so will she be creating the false documents? I'll probably make the opposing rolls secretly on a mirror server.

Once created, you'll also need to deliver them somehow. One option includes making a set of Stealth and Sleight of Hand checks. The other option involves Disguise and Bluff checks.

Does the encampment have wagons & packbeasts? I was thinking we could form a caravan to move people + supplies back to Longshadow, with Eagle Daria doing aerial reconnaissance to help us avoid Ironfang checkpoints or patrols.

There is a pen with four yzobu that the unit used to pull the heavy catapults. There are also a couple of supply carts that the Ironfangs forced the slaves to pull. You could harness the yzobu to the carts, but they are ornery for those other than their handlers, so it would require a Handle Animal check to get them to cooperate.

Handle Animal is trained only and Daria is the only PC with any ranks in it, so our options are very limited. If not for that, I'd have given it a shot, since even my generic Charisma checks are almost quadruple poor Daria's Handle Animal modifier. D:

So Thorek does not have Engineering, stoneworking, Intimidate, or Profession Soldier skills so these other rolls are beyond him.

BUT he could help develop the militia further if the Hemlock Harriers have finally arrived; we haven't rolled for that in a long time.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Hmm...technically it's the Chernasardo Rangers who are on their way to provide reinforcements, while the Hemlock Harriers are staying behind to protect your other followers and civilians at the reclaimed fort.

However, we could incorporate a Militia Phase into readying Longshadow for the attack, representing the fostering of a Hollow Hills branch of your militia as a side effect of your efforts here.

Should I roll just the one Militia Week, or more than that? It's been a long time since we've done any, but we also haven't been present to our militia in a while either.

Also, any requests or preferences from the group as to what I should focus on?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I would say just roll one week. As you said, you've been away from base for some time and running missions on behalf of Longshadow. This is the first reasonable stretch of time you've had to focus on militia matters.

Okay so for these rolls due to Daria's stat changes I made some adjustments to the Officer roles, mainly just swapping Daria (now Commandant) and Esperanza (now Ambassador)

MILITIA ACTIONS

Upkeep Phase:

Step 1--Training Attrition
Training Attrition (Loyalty DC10): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Training Score Decrease: 1d6 ⇒ 6 new Militia Training Score = 50

Step 2--Notoriety Penalties
I don't think we do anything here since we're under 100, but GM please correct me if I'm wrong! I also assume this has gone up a lot lately given that we've been kicking the Ironfang hard in a high-profile way.

Step 3--Treasury Shortage Penalties
We have 54gp at the start of this militia turn, so our Training Score does drop since that's less than our Minimum Treasury of 60.
Training Decrease: 2d4 + 6 ⇒ (4, 1) + 6 = 11 New total: 39, low enough to drop us down to Rank 5 (Rank 6's minumum training score is 40). Ouch.

Step 4--Increase Rank
After Upkeep we’re at Training Score 39, and revert from Rank 6 to Rank 5.

Step 5--Deposits & Withdrawals
I vote we make a 400gp deposit (Thorek will cover it from his share of the last loot sell-off) to bring the Treasury to 454gp. I'd like to focus on leveling up to Rank 9, and then upgrading existing teams before recruiting new ones, and that will cost money so we should start preparing now.

Activity Phase:

Earn Gold (Loyalty): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 x 5 = 30gp

I'll subtract 50gp from the treasury for this action. (New total 404gp)
Drill Militia (Loyalty DC15): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15 Success, barely.
Training Score Increase: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (6, 1) + 9 = 16 New Training Score: 55 That's the exact threshold needed for us to hit Rank 7.

We are now Rank 7 though Vayelan can award the attendant bonuses as they see fit, and we have one remaining Militia Action.

My idea is this: we can use the Spread Propaganda action to have the Roughnecks deliver taunts & demoralizing information to the Ironfang vanguard; instead of improving Longshadow's opinion of us I'd like to as for +5 Victory points, and I'd happily also suggest a boost in our Notoriety if that'd help us get it.

Talking with Thorek made me realize we also get a new skill rank for reaching Militia 7, and that I failed to add one that the party has for the militia already being at rank 2. I'm going to put 1 each into Intimidate and Stealth.

Yes. I think this synergizes well with the delivery of the falsified orders. The very regimented Ironfangs, finding their deployment and formations changed mere days before the assault, will likely grumble and begin to second guess their commanders.

Okay so the Spread Propaganda action requires 100gp (easily afforded from the 600gp added by Thorek & Daria) and a DC20 Loyalty check for a success.

@GM before I roll would we be able to trade a Notoriety increase for a boost to the roll? It's okay if the answer is no but I'm a) worried about that +5 bonus and b) feel that it makes thematic sense since we've been cleaning up Ironfang forward positions and taking credit for it would be central to the propaganda.

The standard benefit of a successful Spread Propaganda mission during a Militia Turn is that the militia's reputation in the settlement improves by one step. This means that Longshadow is now Friendly to the Hemlock Harriers. The mechanical benefit of this is that the DCs of any Bluff, Diplomacy, and Intimidate checks attempted here are decreased by 2. Also, when operating out of a friendly settlement, during the Event Phase, we subtract 5 from the percentile roll to determine whether an event occurs.

However, I feel like we should also implement a special benefit related to the pending battle for Longshadow.

The siege of Longshadow operates across a number of turns that abstracts the course of the battle across two days. There are some turns that serve as intervals where you can essentially influence the morale of Longshadow's defenders. My thinking is that this successful mission can provide either a static +2 bonus on these checks or it gives you a free reroll on one of them.

Thorek Ironspark wrote:

Yes.

I'm trying to take an accounting of the invasion timeline, but I think I may have lost track of the passing of days at some point, so I could use some help checking my math.

Once you learn about the pending attack on Longshadow, it starts a 12 day timer until the Legion lays siege to the town. Here's my tally of your progress:

You used the first day traveling to Longshadow by air, then convincing Mayor Crawbert that the threat was real. You spent the second day attempting some readiness checks, some of which got sabotaged. You used the third day to track down the doppleganger infiltrators and the bugbear assassins. You used the fourth day to complete more readiness checks.

The fifth day was spent traveling to Navah's tower, exploring it, and identifying how to use the magic cloak to help alleviate her mental deterioration. You spent the night at her tower, helping her further in the morning, then returning to Longshadow.

From there, on the sixth day, you traveled to the Wyvern Scout camp, defeating them but losing Undari in the process. You spent the rest of the day returning to Longshadow by ground and sought out a local druid to cast the reincarnation spell. On the seventh day, Undari was reincarnated as Daria, then you set out to strike the munitions camp. On the eighth day, you struck the siege weapon camp, then returned to Longshadow to finish falsifying the Legion orders and complete both these readiness checks and the militia turn.

Thus, I believe we'll be starting the ninth day next. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Sounds right to me. I think the false orders may set back the timeline a bit if they succeed.

What other enemy camps do we know about?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

If your false orders fool the Legion's unit commanders, then the resulting deployment confusion delays the attack by 2 days. If your forgeries manage to fool the commander in charge of the offensive, then the attack is delayed by 4 days instead because she opts to radically redeploy her forces before beginning the invasion.

The last forward camp that you know about is the Warbeast Camp, where the Legion keeps and trains the monstrous creatures they plan to use as part of the assault.
