OK, unless I say otherwise it's a safe bet that I've marked what I attack. Also, since Rain of Steel is still active, S1 took 1d10 ⇒ 8 damage.

Ceara/Nialla vanishes from sight.

Shift to J21 and use Grappling Strike on S1(marking it, 2 damage on a miss): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (2) + 15 = 171d10 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16

Even though his attack misses, Kelgan still manages to snap off an encroaching tendril.

Grabed targets are concidered immobilized.

IMMOBILIZED
You can’t move from your space, although you can
teleport and can be forced to move by a pull, a push,
or a slide.

A grabed target can make OA's.

Got it. S1 attacks Erik:
Poison Lash (Fort) - on hit target takes 5 ongoing poison (se)

Perigia moves up next to Erik. "Let's burn this thing out," she says. Moves to H18 and cast Scorching Burst in F21. 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17 vs Reflex to hit 1d6 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 fire damage.

Hobbes sends a ball of acid into S2, and watches, satisfied as the plant visibly weakens under the assault.

I'm asking the groups opinion on an idea I had. Ceara is currently next to the portal, and I'm thinking about second wind followed by going through it as Nialla. The intent would be to play sneaky assassin. Get to the Master, spin a story of CA going crazy, and be near him, with him all all shrouded up, when the party arrives, then ambush him. Rev and I have talked about it, and from the DM perspective, she's fine with it. She also suggested that I see that the group thinks so I am. Note that I am totally ok with the high degree of danger posed to Ceara, especially if the party is delayed or needs extra rest time. So, any thoughts?

Male Half-Orc Fighter 8

Could work. Could go disastrously. Mainly just depends on how good your Bluff check ends up being. Also, your plan would get either you or him attacked for rebelling, but that's kind of expected. Good luck, and let's hope it isn't too dangerous on the other side.

Male Human Sorcerer 9

If memory serves me correctly, I dusted CA. He's dead, Jim. I would say no, don't do it. Your class is not intended to go it alone, especially against someone powerful enough to have Nialla and the Commander at his beck and call. Let's finish the plant creature and then decide to go through the strange portal.

The Commander Accordant is no longer with you. He is a small acid puddle on the floor.

Male Elf Ranger

It would be a very risky for Ceara but could give a big advantage latter. I would go for it.

Kel fires two more arrows at the main vine.
Arrow 1, attack vs ac, 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21, damage = 1d12 + 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (3) + (8) + 7 = 18
Arrow 2, attack vs ac, 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16, damage = 1d12 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14

For once, Kel's sure aim deserts him. Both arrows skim across the floor, harming nothing.

Yes, you did. But the Master doesn't know that :)

Alright, since the commander's dead, you can afford to wait a few more minutes to do your bluff.

Free Action: Virtue of Valor; Kelgan gains 4 temp HP for dropping an enemy.

Erik winces as the poison moves towards his heart and spreads throughout his body but still manages to assist Kelgan, blade flashing.

Minor Action: Maintain the canon of defense on Kelgan

Move Action: Move to I21

Standard Action: War Song Strike on S3; 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 32 vs. AC for 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13 damage and on a hit, any ally that hits S3 until TEOMNT gains 3 temp HP.

Erik - don't forget to make a save v ongoing poison.

Erik wipes out the shoot in Kelgan's grasp with one confident swing of his blade, while Brujo seeks to remove the shoot threatening Perigia.

Basic melee (AC)
1d20+11=19 - Brujo v S2. Miss

The parent vine lashes wildly, striking at Ceara, Erik and Perigia.

Lashing Vines (Ref). Close burst 4.

1d20+14=24 - Vine v Perigia. Hits
1d20+14=29 - Vine v Erik. Hits
2d6+4=14
Ceara, Erik and Perigia take 14 damage each.

Further shoots spring from the ground, threatening Perigia and Ceara, while the bloodied remnant of S2 drives poisonous thorns deep into Brujo.

Poison Lash (Fort). On hit target takes 5 ongoing poison (se)
1d20+14=23 - S2 v Brujo. Hits. 1d8+4=8 plus 5 ongoing poison damage
1d20+14=32 - S5 v Perigia. Hits. 1d8+4=8 plus 5 ongoing poison damage

You know, I was even telling myself over and over again to make that save while I was typing the post. STILL managed to forget somehow. :)

Save v. Ongoing: 1d20 ⇒ 4

HP Update: 40/59

Male Human Sorcerer 9

sorry, didn't mean to hold things up.

Hobbes looks over at the vine, the shoots, and his comrades. "Nialla, I need you to make your way back to us so I can heal you." He says to Ceara. He looks worried. She took an awful pounding last round.

I had to consult my spell list. Everything that is left is close blast or at will ranged. I will need to move up and engage.

Hobbes finally leaves the safety of his doorway and moves up to blast his enemies. He carefully makes his way to a spot where he can blast both Vine and Shoot.

move me to H23. Tempest Breath on nine squares directly north of me. gets both S4 and V1, +12 vs Ref, 28 and 23 respectively, if either of those hit, 2d6+11 or 20 acid damage and i have concealment til end of my next turn. I realized by following CA thru the door, this is still the same encounter. So now i am down to my at-wills and a daily. fortunately, my at-wills just got stronger with the depletion of my encounters. from here on out, my at-wills get a +2 bonus on damage.

He blows out a cloud of acid that after it burns the plants, it moves to obscure his position.

Female Genasi Firesoul Wizard 7

Taken off guard by the sprout appearing next to her, Perigia lashes out with her staff. Melee attack vs. S5. 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 vs AC to hit, 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 damage

Edit: Almost forgot I get to use Firepulse as an immediate reaction to being hit. 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28 vs. Reflex to hit 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 fire damage

Actions noted, Perigia. I'll narrate once Hobbes has made his move.

Male Human Sorcerer 9

check again, Rev, I made my action. Dave just posted before I could finish. I had to check my spell list again and the map a couple of times. Realizing that this was still the same encounter as the breakfast club hampered my ability to decide what i needed to do. But I posted.

Apologies. Missed it.

Hobbes strides into the room, showering the parent vine with acid, and narrowly missing the encroaching shoot. Perigia, undeterred by the plantlife slamming into her, repulses the shoot with a burst of flame from within, instantly bloodying S5 before hitting it hard with her staff.

Female - mostly. Changeling Assassin 8

"I will not run from a flower." Nialla says as she steps into the shadows of a shoot and emerges from the plant's own shadow to attack once more.

Shadow Step to C20. Shroud 3. Invoke. Inescapble Blade with the scimitar on the vine. 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28. On hit: 1d8 + 3d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + (1, 1, 1) + 2 = 10. On miss: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5. Save: 1d20 ⇒ 14.

Wow, maybe I should have got the reroll 1s on shroud damage feat. Horrible damage roll.

Standard Action: Cutting Words on S5; 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19 vs. WILL for 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14 psychic damage and on a hit, pull S5 to I21.

Erik's attack drags the vine shoot unwillingly away from Perigia, damaging it even more.

Brujo raises his blade. White fire outlines the parent vine and he marks it for himself. The Vine writhes as the flames sink deep into its root system.

Shielding Fire (Fort). Close burst 10. On hit, target is marked as with Aegis of Shielding. To end encounter, if damage is reduced due to Aegis, target takes 9 fire damage.
1d20+10=24 - Brujo v parent vine. Hits.
2d10+4=12 - eesh. Rubbish damage.

Apologies Kelgan. Your mark is superseded, but since this does fire damage and the vines are vulnerable to that, it seems to make sense.

1d20=19 - save v ongoing poison

Brujo shakes back his hair as the poison leaves his body.

"Back. Get away from it."

Two more shoots spring up and the parent vine lashes wildly, striking at the encircling companions.

Lashing Vines (Ref). Close Burst 4, enemies only
1d20+14=27 - Vine v Ceara. Hits
1d20+14=29 - Vine v Kelgan. Hits

1d20+14=21 - Vine v Hobbes. Hits
1d20+14=28 - Vine v Erik. Hits
2d6+4=10
10 damage each to Ceara, Kelgan, Perigia, Hobbes and Erik.

The shoots continue to try and poison the companions, driving venomous tendrils into them.

Poison Lash (Fort)
1d20+14=32 - S4 v Hobbes. Hits. 1d8+4=12 plus 5 ongoing poison.
1d20+14=18 - S5 v Erik. Miss.

1d20+14=26 - S8 v Ceara. Hits. 1d8+4=11 plus 5 ongoing poison

Ceara slumps to the ground, unable to fend off the poison coursing through her.

Damage totals this round:
Ceara - 21 plus 5 ongoing poison
Hobbes - 22 plus 5 ongoing poison
Erik - 10
Perigia - 18 plus 5 ongoing poison
Kelgan - 10

I make that Ceara on -7

"Plants don't like Fire, huh? I can do that. I agree, fall back and regroup." Hobbes says as he winces. The last round was pretty brutal for him.

burning spray close blast3 on V1 and S4, +12 vs Ref, 28 and 26, if hit, 1d8+13 fire damage, or 19 fire damage and nxt creature who hits me til EOMNT takes 4 fire damage

Hobbes casts his fire spell, blasting the vines and the sprout again. Then he moves for the door. "You don't have to tell me twice."

move back to doorway, taking a OA from S4, if he survives my fire spell. (backwards 1 sq, then back around Erik and back to the doorway. remember if the OA hits, the attacker takes 4 fire damage
and save=17 for the poison damage

Seconded on the good luck with the interviews, Perigia.

Hobbes showers flame over the parent vine and one of its shoots before backing away. In a last venomous attempt to stop him, the shoot swings a tendril into the sorcerer, sending more poison into him. Retaliation is instant and the shoot smoulders as Hobbes's fire springs to vindictive light again as he beats a retreat.
