Etune Snowfoot |
Was going to toss the tanglefoot but there's no way in heck Etune could hit between prone, cover, folks in melee, etc.
The halfling moves up and attempts to grab Tajan by a convenient armor piece and drag Read: Reposition the fallen monk next to the cleric for convenience sake.
CM Check(Reposition): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Tajan |
ah well thought going after the guy with th scythe was the best strategy thanks Etune
stabilisation check: 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 - 2 = 2
Barret Orc-Born |
Barret chuckles at the monk, taking out his wand and bending down to try closing Tajans wounds before they become too much more dire. You have to watch the sharp bits in battle, monk! Else you'll end up like this again.
Cure Light Wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
This is all assuming that Etune does in fact reposition Tajan
Grandmaster TOZ |
Etune manages to drag Tajan back to Barret's waiting magics, as Stephen moves to fill the gap. In a bid to stop the fight from progressing further, the wizard's staff comes down on the prone warriors head. Unfortunately, it does not finish him off. Stephen swings again, desperately, as the archer rises, murder in his eyes. The blow connects, bruising flesh, but still allows the hobgoblin to answer in kind. However, the wizard's assault interferes with the aim, and no magely blood is drawn.
Staff on Red Archer: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Damage to Red Archer: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Longsword on Stephen: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
21 Etune
21 Stephen
21 Red Archer (Damage: 13)
20 Iago
20 Apollyanna
19 Warrior (Damage: 44)
8 Barret
5 Tajan - Prone (Damage: 17)
Team Hobgoblin hangs on for another round! And I don't like Stephen's position, all things considered. Thankfully, Tajan can take actions now, as Barret's healing happened before the stabilization check.
Grandmaster TOZ |
Oh, that wasn't Cleave. You have to be standing adjacent to each other for Cleave. He got to attack everyone in reach. ;) Realized I missed who you were attacking, thankfully in time for the edit. Please do double-check to make sure I'm keeping things straight.
Iago Dalamitrin |
"Take a nap will you?"curses Iago.
Greatsword, Power Attack vs Scytheman the Seemingly Eternal: 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (11) + 7 - 1 = 17
Damage: 2d6 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (3, 6) + 4 + 3 = 16
Wasn't sure whether to include a high ground bonus to attack so I did not. Back to you Glendale!
Tajan |
"Thanks Barrett I owe you one" Tajan gestures to the wand at his side. "I'll take it from here. Don't let me keep a Gorumite from a battle any longer"
He pulls out his wand and heals himself some more Clw wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Still prone saving standing up for next turns move action. Did Apollyana's lantern smash or merely hit the floor when Tajan dropped it. If it smashed I will buy another to replace what I borrowed
Grandmaster TOZ |
Iago finally lays out Darak the Eternal, the scythe clattering to the ground. His archer minion is quickly overwhelmed before he has another chance to gut the wizard. The room goes silent save for the heavy breathing of strenuous exertion.
Miss Chance: 1d100 ⇒ 58
Miss Chance: 1d100 ⇒ 80
Miss Chance: 1d100 ⇒ 61
The lantern is fine, although I probably missed a lot of concealment rolls to keep my poor cultists alive. Such is life. Where does the party go next?
Apollyanna Lapin Sukino |
DUDE! My player gave me that lantern!
Edit: Whew! Close one. ;)
"Thank the Maiden you're alright!" Apollyanna says clutching her lantern.
Etune Snowfoot |
As the combat resolves itself, the halfling flicks the blood off her hands NOT on a party member! and straightens her outfit some with a bit of a wry grin, cautiously stowing the tanglefoot bag somewhere convenient should it be needed.
"Sometimes, you can talk to people with words, and sometimes, you just have to cut loose because they don't understand anything other than violence. 't least, that's what Gramma Snowfoot's always sayin'. Case in point."
Etune searches over the room before heading to the 'southwest' door and pointing to it, in an effort to try and get the party back on track.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Grandmaster TOZ |
Each of the hobgoblins has a potion, and Darak the Eternal has a second one as well. He also has a curious pellet. The only other things of interest are the alter and table, covered in partially build skeletons and loose bones.
Etune Snowfoot |
Spellcraft(Potions): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Spellcraft(Pellet): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
The halfling takes a quick look at the items on the hobgoblins and shrugs.
"No clue what those are, but they must have been important if they kept them?"
She keeps an eye on the 'southwest' door.
Tajan |
After Etune identifies the potions as magical Tajan takes ten on the perception check
"Potions of cure light wounds" he announces as he downs two of them
clw potion: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
clw potion: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
He looks over to Pollyanna "Perhaps it would be best if Stephen holds the lantern rather than one who is prone to injuries today" with that he unhook his staff and looks to the door Etune waits at "After you"
Grandmaster TOZ |
Etune opens the door to reveal a small space. Four rudimentary bunks and two wooden chests take up most of the space in the cramped area. Despite the lack of room, the area has been kept neat and relatively clean.
Iago Dalamitrin |
Iago takes a moment to catch his breath. "Ok. So that's three oversized goblins down. And our paladin is ecstatic because she didn't lose her lantern. Wonderful." He shakes his head with a sad smile upon his face before continuing. "Tajan? I'm about to open this here door. If you disagree with that groan in pain please. Barret, my assumption is that you're curious why I'm still talking and not opening the door; but if Tajan happens to groan in pain, would you mind hitting him across the head with my wand of curative magic?"
Going to give people time for additional healing or prep.
Etune Snowfoot |
"Bunks and chests in here, check them out after we examine Iago's room?"
Etune's question is more of a statement as she moves closer to the door that Iago is about to open.
Barret Orc-Born |
Barret smiles once again at the antics of the fighter, nodding at his request to hit the monk if needed. Perhaps there will be more flesh on the other side rather than skeletons again. I hope there is, for my blade thirsts while my new club is slaked.
Iago Dalamitrin |
"I'd love to let you examine my room any time you want. But in the meantime, I think we should focus on this one here" quips the fighter suggestively.
Tajan |
"I am fine now Iago. Which is more than can be said for this door" Tajan strides towards the north door and boots it open
gotta love early season maps with their north is never at the top shtick
Grandmaster TOZ |
A passage leads back to the west, and around corners the party can make out doors in the dim light.
Also have to love the nondescript hallways. :)
Etune Snowfoot |
"Anyone have a piton or spike on them? Spike the door that's closer to the room we came in from for the moment, handle whatever is further in, then go deal with the other room? Just a thought."
Etune is good to go whichever way, but securing one of the doors is the consideration she's bringing up.
Heading to work, unable to post during the day, bot if needed, etc.
Apollyanna Lapin Sukino |
"Sometimes, you can talk to people with words, and sometimes, you just have to cut loose because they don't understand anything other than violence. 't least, that's what Gramma Snowfoot's always sayin'. Case in point."
"The Eternal Maiden teaches that none are beyond redemption." Apollyanna says sagely to the halfling caught red handed.
She turns to Mr. Strange. "Say aren't you a sorcerer or something? Can't you just make light? My roommate back at the Grand Lodge, Gwen--she's a little strange--does it all time."
Barret Orc-Born |
Redemption is irrelevant. Though if they surrender while they are being taught their lesson, Our Lord in Iron teaches that it is perfectly acceptable to take prisoners. Perhaps if those hobgoblins weren't so infatuated with their lady, they would have surrendered and walked away from this alive, if in chains, Barret responds, though by the end he seems to mostly be speaking to himself than Apollyanna.
At any rate, I do have rope, but no pitons upon my person. Perhaps I shall buy some when we get back to Absalom. In the meantime, tell me which door you would like opened and we'll see what I can do.
Iago Dalamitrin |
Iago rolls his eyes as he repositions his lantern to the alter, which he clears unceremoniously of it's religious paraphernalia. "Every party needs a pooper... Anyway, lets see. Tajan up and running? Check. Pitons left in Absalom on the dresser? Check. Theological conversations initiated? Check. Door time."
Iago opens the door violently, exclaiming: "Good evening! We're here about the racket your undead are making."
Bluff (Really unconvincing lie): 1d20 + 2 - 20 ⇒ (10) + 2 - 20 = -8
Iago Dalamitrin |
Oh, I though we were still at the door leading to the corridor. With that said, I'm a fan of #1. When in doubt, go left as they say.
Tajan |
Tajan would say the path.to perfection is always the right choice but then we have filled our quota of religious conversation and I don't want to dilly dally over a door. Left it is
Grandmaster TOZ |
And now, what's behind Doooooooor #1?
Three cramped cells line the western wall of this chamber while an exposed pit runs along the northern wall. The cells are little more than cages made of metal and old wood, with piles of dried grass barely covering the stone floors.
Iago Dalamitrin |
"Well. This is nice" comments Iago dryly before searching the area thoroughly.
Would like to take a ten or twenty on perception, as much as you'll allow me
Grandmaster TOZ |
Barret's Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13
Stephen's Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16
Tajan's Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Apollyanna's Perception: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (15) - 2 = 13
Etune's Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Stephen's Init: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Tajan's Init: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Barret's Init: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Apollyanna's Init: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Iago's Init: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
Etune's Init: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Iago notices the air becoming incredibly dry in the room, and Tajan notices his fellow warrior stiffen.
25 - Etune (Surprised)
16 - Iago
13 - Apollyanna (Surprised)
12 - Barret (Surprised)
8 - Stephen (Surprised)
4 - Tajan
Apollyanna Lapin Sukino |
knowledge (religion): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18 Ditto.
Tajan |
"Iago what's wrong"
what is this know religion of which you speak
Iago Dalamitrin |
Iago only has a brief second to act in, and bravely act he does... By running out of the room as fast as he can. "NOT SURE WHAT THAT S#~$ IS, BUT IT'S DRY!!!"
Grandmaster TOZ |
The room is still and quiet with the exit of Iago.
25 - Etune
16 - Iago
13 - Apollyanna
12 - Barret
8 - Stephen
4 - Tajan
What would you like to do, now that the haunt has manifested?
Etune Snowfoot |
"Okay, so, ah, close that door and open the other one, then?"
Etune isn't quite sure what to make of all of this.
Iago Dalamitrin |
"If I had a choice, I'd like to figure out what's doing ... whatever that is in there and clear it out of the way. Can't be too careful."
Grandmaster TOZ |
Also, much love to Iago for the laugh at Sir Dalamitrin bravely running away.
Iago Dalamitrin |
I aim to please. Going to need our holy warriors to queue us regular folk in. And probably deal with it.
Apollyanna Lapin Sukino |
"Igor I think you just woke up a creepy haunted jail!"
Iago Dalamitrin |
"Aaand she forgot my name." Turning towards the paladin, Iago smiles like a salesman. "Is that what that was? Well then. How do we fix the haunted part of that?"
Apollyanna Lapin Sukino |
Actually, so-stupid-you-can't-turn-it-off auto-correct forgot your name, I just forgot to double check. Fantasy name are horrible on smart phones. Course it could be worse, it got three out of four letters right, and Igor is actually a name--oddly Igor is probably more popular than Iago--heck, I play an Igor. But take it from 'Apollo Anna', it could have been much, much worse.
"Well, it's sort of like falling into a one-hundred-foot-deep spiked pit trap or triggering explosive runes. It could just sort of--" Segue to GM!
Grandmaster TOZ |
The warrior of justice isn't actually sure what the haunting could be doing. The supernatural forces may have tried to suck the moisture from Iago's body, leaving him a desiccated husk, or even inflict worse curses upon him. It seems to be focused in that room, so the party is safe outside of it. Determining how to handle the haunt may require someone enter the room and investigate the cause of death.
Barret Orc-Born |
Barret sighs, knowing that he may be uniquely qualified to deal with this particular problem. Someone tie a rope around me and drag me out if I turn into a corpse. I don't want to be buried here, even though there were many interesting battles we overcame. And be sure to sell my armor to a temple of Gorum. They should pay a fair price, and the acolytes could use a good set of steel. Once preparations are made, Barret steels himself and strides into the room, chanting war prayers to Gorum and tightly gripping his holy symbol in his hand for when he will inevitably need it.
Grandmaster TOZ |
Seconds tick by, and nothing supernatural happens. All Barret sees is skeletal remains scattered about the bottom of the pit thirty feet below, and empty cages lining the walls. It seems Iago dodged the bullet just in time, and the malevolence is spent...for now.
