But they suck...so badly. Such a broken monster, and I don't even mean OP. Leshay are often one of the main examples of the piss poor design of the ELH.
I've never actually used the mechanics. I just like the flavor.
Semi-divine being with s+~# tons of SLA's and immortality. I'll achieve most of that via my normal spell casting power + the immortality discovery at 20.

No, the templates themselves are generic. It's the portfolios, divine abilities, and so on that they grant which allows plenty of customization.
For example, Malak would probably take the Darkness and Trickery portfolios, or maybe the dexterity based one. And there's feats and divine abilities that can enhance your sneak attack or your sneakiness. Heck I even think you can basically turn yourself into a shadow, either undead or like an actual shadow.
Thad could take the Wisdom and Object(Bow) portfolios and there is some nasty feats and DAs for archery.
For Sparel, there's a Magic portfolio as well as a Knowledge one and Darnak would probably want the Constitution portfolio, though I'm not sure what other one he might want.
I would probably take War for sure. I'd have to double check the list again for my second one.
Each portfolio offers a bunch of abilities, one per Divine Rank(like Prophet, Hero-Deity, Lesser, etc) which go up in power as one goes up in Divine Rank, and while they could be really powerful at the mid to upper Ranks, at the low end they aren't that bad.
The templates themselves offer the basic increases to all stats, ability scores, and such, but again at the lower ranks, said increases aren't all that big.

Between this...
Thad crossed his arms, unimpressed. "I had thought he would be disappointing. This is why I fight demons. There's actually some skill needed. Are we ready to go? I'd like to kill a dragon before lunch so maybe we can get back to demon slaying in the afternoon."
And this...
beuler? Beuler?
And add all sorts of other quips you all have busted out with at one point or another, man you people have me constantly rollin'! :)
Good times.

My work here is done.

Hey fellas, check this out...
Knowledge: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (1) + 17 = 18
Perception: 1d20 + 39 ⇒ (1) + 39 = 40
Cool green colored words: 1d20 + 100 ⇒ (18) + 100 = 118
Yay! You see how clever I was for getting those stupid ones out of the way? Huh? Huh? Pretty clever of me, I'd say. :)
Not sure if you all already knew about this. I didn't, so that's why I think it's so cool. Plus, I like green.

I wanted to ask everyone a question: Does this game feel like you have too many things to do?
The first part of this game was very much a railroad. Now you guys can go anywhere.
My regular RL players prefer several balls in the air and random stuff besides to make it seem more realistic. Some other players prefer a game that is more focused on the next few tasks.
I can do either for a PBP, but I wanted to know what you guys think so far.

Malak Jaedoom |

haha! I didnt even know that site existed. its so frustrating when you cant log in.
I dont think we have too many things to do at all. my table top GM runs a very similar style game in that regards and it does feel more realistic. as long as we dont stray too far from where you want to take the game then Im all about it.

Sparel, here's some help with your arcane spellbook. Obviously, you know all cantrips for free. Then, I calculated how many spells you learned for free from leveling. Then I compared it to the spells you have used so far and those spells in your normal prepared list.
Finally, I added the number of spells you can add from the enemy spellbooks you just acquired. Obviously, you cannot add those to your blessed books until you have some free time. But there's not reason not to update your spellbook as soon as you have free time.
First level – True Strike, Grease, Protection From Evil, Unseen Servant, Gravity Bow (Add four spells from the gearmen spellbooks, plus an additional number of first-level spells equal to your starting Intelligence modifier)
Second level – Communal Protection from Evil, Spectral Hand, Glitterdust (plus one free spell from leveling and add nine spells from the gearmen spellbooks)
Third level – Haste, Dispel Magic, Displacement, Servant Horde, Phantom Steed, Invisiblity Sphere, Vengeful Comets (plus seven more spells from the gearmen books)
Fourth level – Dimension Door, Dimensional Anchor, Emergency Force Sphere (plus one free spell from leveling and add two from the gearmen spellbooks)
Fifth level – Prying Eyes, Teleport, Wall of Force, Dismissal, Telepathic Bond (add four from the gearmen spellbooks)
Sixth level – Antimagic Field, Greater Dispel Magic, Summon Black Pudding, Contingency (add two from the gearmen spellbooks)
Seventh level – Greater Teleport, Finger of Death (plus two free spells from leveling)
Eighth level - Mind Blank, Polymorph Any Object
I left out Treasure Stitching, Arcane Cannon because I don't think they will be very useful. If you want to add them back, that's fine with me.
I'm not sure if you want Dismissal as an arcane spell. It’s available as a cleric spell at 4th level. I put the spell there just in case you did want it. Also, you haven’t used Vengeful Comets, even when you had a chance to buff. Not sure if you want to keep it or not. Something to consider.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

This game has been nothing short of awesome. There's definitely not too much stuff going on, in fact one could argue that for our level, there's too few things going on, but not by much.
I'm enjoying myself immensely and can't wait to see where else this game goes.

Sparel Radtymah |

I'll have to deal with my spell book when I have time, which probably won't be soon. I've been really busy lately. Though I don't plan to change my spells much without a specific reason. Also I bought a couple of blessed books, so I've already paid scribing costs for an undetermined number of spells. That alone should be more than sufficient.
Also, I'm really enjoying the game. It's my favorite.

Oterisk |

I suppose I should chime in. Don't let the impatient attitude of my character color your perception of my attitude. I enjoy this quite a bit. I like being in a awesome elite crew kicking butt and taking names. As far as railroad vs sand box, I don't really mind either. I like the overarching story a lot, but I understand not going after it directly either. That could be pretty rough, taking on a demon lord. A bit more treasure and levels and I think we can do it though.
One thing that I would say about our collective story that might make us more cohesive is some collective friends or NPC's from the past. If it is alright with you, Arbiter, if we put some short stories out there of some of the things we have done together as a group in this thread for extra background material. We could even come up with stories of where we found or purchased our gear from, places we almost died, different things like that.
Things that could be as simple as "Remember that time when Sparel got eaten by the Shoggoth and Malak accidently stabbed him in the leg when trying to cut him out?" Or they could be more complex like a story of Akor's lost love or Darnak's dwarven fan girls.
If we explore our characters some more, we can actually provide the GM with more ammunition, ahem, "building blocks" to be able to fit us into the story in a more meaningful way.

Those are great ideas, Oterisk. I plan on doing something like that with Demonwrack as I was thinking of growing it in power ala a Legacy Item, or something similar, if Arbiter allows that.
The rough idea is that it was wielded by a friend of Iomedae from her mortal days, probably a Half-Celestial or maybe even a full Celestial, who passed down both weapon and heritage through the centuries until Akor was born and eventually given Demonwrack.
It's adored with six gems, each a different type, and within each is the spirit(s) of some of his ancestors and possibly their allies, who have willing given themselves to the blade to increase its power.

This is normally how I run games. I tend to focus on what people do and go from there. Thaddicus already has given me some ideas for the future. The orphanage was a test to see how Akor would react. Sparel's arc is tied to his goddess. Malak and Darnak's bits are still being formed by their actions.
I just wanted to get a feeling from everyone about how they normally play. Anything to build history of the characters is great. And the downtime from research and crafting can give more NPCs some face time.

I just died on this one! Fan girls. That's a good one! Especially with Darnak's "sparkling" personality. ;)

Javell DeLeon |

Actually, I had considered playing with the whole "strong and silent" type Darnak is playing by having people come up to him, talk about their problems, thank him for being a good listener and then leave.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Oh man that's just greatness!!!

I just purchased Seekers of Secrets and found out that the default resonant power of that Lavender and Green Elipsoid Ioun Stone is to be able to use it as an immediate action. All it requires to be part of the rules exactly is to put it in a 500 gp wayfinder.
Ahh, maybe that's how the druidess did it.
