I played in your Heroes of Highdelve game back in 2022, and was invited to your GM rotation game. But I guess that's when you start your PFS hiatus so there wasn't any new game (that I'm aware of).
I was a PFS newbie last time we talked, and now I'm 5 stars GM + Venture Agent. How time flies...
Wow!! Kudos to you!! That’s crazy and great that you’re holding on to PF1 as it really is a system that I personally enjoy a lot!!

Still here as well. I largely play 2e, but I’m not against 1e by any means and still play a few tables of it.

I, for one, have never even touched 2E!
I invested wayyy too much in 3.X books, with wayyy too little gameplay to show for it, to want to have anything to do with calling backsies on backward-compatibility (let alone my issues with some of their other decisions)!"Heroes for Highdelve"? Was that...a-ha...so it was!

Question for the more seasoned players and GMs:
I'm considering for one of my characters, a fighter, to take the Step up feat chain: Step up, Following Step, Step Up and Strike.
(And probably a second feat chain at a higher level: Disruptive, Spellbreaker, Teleport Tactician.)
Is this plan fine in PBP(!) for both the GM and me as a player? Or will it slow down the game and/or annoy everyone?
Please share your experience. Thank you!
| miteke |
Not annoying. Heck, not even close to some of the strats and if it keeps a spell caster off the rest of the parties backs, they will love it. It's not like it is really confusing, takes 5 minutes to complete your turn, or typically ends the fight in one round. Those are the types of strats that are annoying. So you are good.

Wow! Yes! A long time ago that I GMed that. And remember this run of yours?
And I honestly have also never touched a 2E game. Too old for change or maybe just too invested in 1E. ;-)

I like to post conditional actions when I can. So with the Step Up chain, it would look like...
*all my other actions*
If an enemy takes a 5-foot step away from me, I will use Step Up and Strike, moving the same direction as the enemy.
Shojo Mallet: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Embarrassment Damage: 1d7 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

I have a group I'm taking through the arc The Devil We Know and lost a player after the second scenario. I am looking for a level 2-4 character who can play both of the remaining scenarios with us. The remaining scenarios are:
40- Crypt of Fools
48- Rules of the Swift
If you are interested, please send me a private message. We plan on starting on Tuesday.

Thanks for all the answers, I really appreciate it! :-D
Now I'm not worried anymore. ^_^

Asking here because it's a rules-question specifically pertaining to Organized Play:
The shaman receives Craft Wondrous Item as a bonus feat and gains a +4 insight bonus on Spellcraft checks to identify magic items permanently.
As you can see here, this Hex is fully Society-legal, no red halo or anything; does this mean a Society character with this Hex could Craft Wondrous Items???
If so, that'd be pretty damn useful, and quite the exception (and as any Society Alchemist will tell you, it's not like ALL crafting is truly verboten).

Per the Additional Resources page:
“Shaman: Fetish hex replaces Craft Wondorous Item with Spell Focus.“

Goodness, 'Quickdraw TOZ' over here!
OK, a tiny disappointment, but a predictable one and still a potentially good choice!
The main question remaining would be why the Archives failed to apply the red halo it uses to indicate such caveats.

Hey all! Finished the special recently as my first ever PF1 game, was pretty fun! I want to do more, but I gained a boon as part of the thing (I rolled a 20 at the end), but I'm still unsure what it does. I figured I'd incorporate whatever it is on my character. Been a few days so I figured I'd ask here.

You'll get the boon form via email after the GameDay is done; the special wrapped early, but the event itself won't finish until November 26th.

Has anyone "seen" or "heard" from kaervek78 recently?
His character has been missing from my game since the 1st of the month, and his primary avatar has not posted since the 11th.
I sent a PM several days ago to no avail, and just tried sending an off-site E-mail.
For those who did not know, Kaervek78 is from Austria, so I don't know if there is any reason that part of the world should be facing Internet problems.

Apologies, I didn't see the notification about your pm on my phone. :-(
I'll check in the game in the next 24 hours.
(Need to go to sleep - it's in the middle of the night here in Austria right now.)

The latest Pazio blog has an update on the timelines for the forums being down while they implement the new store. See here for details.
In summary it looks like the plan is for Paizo.com will go down at 8 a.m. Pacific on Monday, November 3rd for a few days.
Looks like the new store launch has been pushed back until next Monday (see here).
Store Launch Update : We are delaying the launch of the new store due to two issues we’ve found. We expect this work will take 2-3 days to resolve and test, so that means we will be going dark at 8 a.m. on Monday, November 10th. We will update the blog with this latest information.

I poked around the store to look at the new layouts. It looks a little more modern-e-commerce-y now. And it sounds like they updated their payment system backend, but I haven't purchased anything.
If the cybersecurity looks to be more solid, I may even give them my credit card information, instead of buying prepaid debit cards like I'm Stringer Bell.
The forums are all exactly the same proto-BBcode forums that we know and love. (No sarcasm - I actually do love it, no stupid overlay ads, loads on mobile, etc.)

The thing I discovered missing was the scenarios that haven't been released yet. The old store showed what was coming up, including what level range it was for, which helped in planning who to play on it when it did drop. They're not there any more.
And I had no problem in making two separate orders and sending them off yesterday as well as using the vouchers I got at Paizocon SE 2025.

Has anyone else had reason to suspect something wrong with the PM system recently?
I ask because I've sent a few recently to various people and for various reasons, and have not received any replies in a while, and the disparity between the variety of my attempts versus the uniformity of non-responses is wide enough that I'm starting to wonder if the reason might actually be technical.

And now for something completely different: I just noticed/re-noticed something...
You reduce the penalty on attack rolls to deal nonlethal damage with lethal weapons by 2; if you already suffer no penalty on such an attack, you instead deal 1 additional point of nonlethal damage.
Now my question is, would this apply if all I had was a Merciful weapon (but no feats or class features or whatever for freely doing nonlethal)? I'd actually been thinking about getting that enchantment for my sword, and though I'd been leaning against it, this might tip the scales back to doing so!

| 1 person marked this as a favorite. |
That's an interesting question, Xasay Xyu!
First of all, if I was the GM in a homebrew campaign I would allow it. I mean, it's 1 (one!) additional nonlethal damage. I think hatt's appropriate for a reward that otherwise would give you effectively a +2 bonus to that kind of attack roll.
However, for PFS one must only consider RAW, so the question really boils down to Is a merciful weapon considered a lethal weapon or not?
Let's look at the relevant rule texts:
You reduce the penalty on attack rolls to deal nonlethal damage with lethal weapons by 2; if you already suffer no penalty on such an attack, you instead deal 1 additional point of nonlethal damage. (Source)
A merciful weapon deals an extra 1d6 points of damage, but all damage it deals is nonlethal damage. On command, the weapon suppresses this ability until told to resume it (allowing it to deal lethal damage, but without any bonus damage from this ability). (Source)
(...) Dealing Nonlethal Damage: Certain attacks deal nonlethal damage. Other effects, such as heat or being exhausted, also deal nonlethal damage. When you take nonlethal damage, keep a running total of how much you’ve accumulated. Do not deduct the nonlethal damage number from your current hit points. It is not “real” damage. Instead, when your nonlethal damage equals your current hit points, you’re staggered (see below), and when it exceeds your current hit points, you fall unconscious.
Nonlethal Damage with a Weapon that Deals Lethal Damage: You can use a melee weapon that deals lethal damage to deal nonlethal damage instead, but you take a –4 penalty on your attack roll.
Lethal Damage with a Weapon that Deals Nonlethal Damage: You can use a weapon that deals nonlethal damage, including an unarmed strike, to deal lethal damage instead, but you take a –4 penalty on your attack roll. (...)
(Source)
Conclusions:
1) A merciful weapon - when that ability isn't suppressed - is defined (according to its rule text) as a weapon that deals nonlethal damage.2) The rule for Nonlethal Damage has a separate passage for weapons that deal nonlethal damage, so we can safely conclude that the passage for weapons that deal lethal damage doesn't apply.
3) In the text of the Soldier of Peace Reward, the phrase "on such an attack" refers to the phrase "deal nonlethal damage with lethal weapons" in the same sentence.
4) Therefore, you simply cannot do (deal nonlethal damage with a lethal weapon) what will trigger the Soldier of Peace Reward with a merciful weapon when that ability isn't suppressed.
So I believe, RAW the answer is: No, unfortunately not.

That's an interesting question, Xasay Xyu!
Well here's another one:
This character is the beneficiary of my "Elemental Awakening" Boon from Season 8 - my question now is, does he benefit from replays of a given adventure with an Elemental Affinity Boon? For example, when we ran "The Cosmic Captive" last year, that was a replay for me and I picked "Water" that time (the first time I'd chosen "Earth"), so does Spenser here rack up another point of Cold Resistance?

Do feats like Strong Comeback and Student of Sulunai apply to the folio/T-shirt/DM-star rerolls, or are those a little too "meta"?

Hello,
A chronicle sheet earned through a replay, is a chronicle sheet that counts for the respective character that you’re applying it to, so that you can of course add the benefits of that chronicle sheet (e.g. the example you stated) when you burn replays. You just can’t apply the same chronicle sheet twice to the same character even if you burn a replay… but that’s quite obvious, I think. ;-)

Good question. I looked through the PFS guide, but I couldn’t find a formal rule or official FAQ that explicitly states “Feats cannot affect campaign-boon rerolls.”
I know that many see these PFS campaign rerolls as external to the character sheet, like a meta-game benefit, not an in-game mechanical one.
At my table I would allow these feats to work on PFS rerolls, but expect table variation.

Uhhh...I have a character who DOES have the same Chronicle twice, but the second being applied as DM-credit; is that a problem? This happened way way back.
