Sivar Soulscar |
Sivar moves 20ft towards the crystal at the back of the boat and power attacks it
Fauchard +PA: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 251d10 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15
GM Chyro |
Rescue, round 10
The portal has now grown to full size. The two crystals start to glow brightly, and the one attached sail bulges as if wind had caught it.
The ship will, starting with this turn, advance with 10ft per turn.
The ship moves forward, partially through to Irissen's cold waters.
Stepping through the portal exposes you to cold temperatures.
Fort saves ensuing if you sail through.
Sven continues tthe attack.
The axe comes down on the dwarf, who gnashes his teeth but stands firm.
Sven's bite attack is aimed at Sivar, but due to his spell he dodges the canines. He steps 5ft backwards.
---------------------
Elsa throws more ice, but misses.
Sivar atttacks the rear crystal, damaging it for 7.
Thorn, a stabilize roll please.
---------------------
Coterie
The leader yells to the one in front.
"Attack the wolf man." Seeing the two others approach the gangplank, he directs them elsewhere. "Search the hold for the gold he owes us. Quickly, 'fore this ship goes through the portal."
5ft step closer to Sven.
Greataxe vs Sven: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18Dmg: 1d12 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Axe vs Sven, flank: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 2 = 6Dmg: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Their attacks don't hit him though.
Acro #1 & #2: 3d20 ⇒ (6, 20, 18) = 44
1st doesn't move until his second attempt.
2nd moves at half speed, boarding the ship.
Mohawk moves around north. Seeing Elsa safe, he makes a salute with a fist to his heart, smiling, before turning attention to Sven.
The mysterious mohawk you now recognize as Bjärn Härgsen, a close friend to your brother, who was willing to help him in any way possible if asked.
Whatever things you undertook with your brother in the past for fun, there's a good chance he was there on occasion to join in on the fun.
Mohawk ice beam: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24Frost dmg: 3d6 + 1 ⇒ (1, 6, 1) + 1 = 9
Though not greatly, the ice beam hits Sven in the flank.
---------------------
Grint
GM Chyro |
Guess Grint's really occupied with something.
Grint keeps his bow ready in case of any hostiles coming into sight.
-----------------------------------
The ship sails through another 10 feet. The dwarf still on the plank falls into the water, holding on to the not slippery side of the plank.
Mohawk: "I dönt knöw höw well prötected you are against Irissen's climate, but if nöt you really want tö get öff this ship."
Rescue, round 11
Wolf Sven fights on.
2d3 ⇒ (3, 1) = 4
Axe vs coterie leader: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 311d12 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Bite vs coterie: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 261d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Crit?: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 172d12 + 14 ⇒ (6, 1) + 14 = 21
He hits the coterie duo some more, but both remain.

Jadwiga Elsa Harcatha |
Bjarn! What is happening! Why have these miscreants come here!
Elsa hurls more ice at Sven...Snowball: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15 Cold: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 1, 1) = 9 DC 17 Fort or be staggered
If that doesn't hit I give up...
GM Chyro |
Bjärn: "Your family, lady Elsa, i will tell you önce that lupine is döwn."
You could take a chance and try casting defensive and be up close...he's standing behind a mast. :/
GM Chyro |
Yes, it's more a victory if the heroes take the enemy down instead of an npc ally.
Sivar Soulscar |
doesn't the crystal control the portal? If so I can destroy it.. maybe a close it..
If not Sivar will move back and take a swing at Sven
fauchard: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 241d10 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
GM Chyro |
The crystals don't control the portal, they responded to it.
But you are correct in that they serve some purpose here.
With earlier mentioned reach weapon getting cover, you'll have more damage to deal to the crystal than to Sven.
Sivar hacks into the crystal, a few chunks come off, but a small fragment still remains. Crystal took 16 dmg...almost there.
Thorn bleeds 1. Can i have another stabilize roll please for the next round.
-------------
The coterie add who boarded last round now hurries (runs) into the hold, to search for the promised gold.
Axe leader, flank: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 7 + 2 = 29Dmg: 1d12 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Axe, flank: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 + 2 = 9Dmg: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Crit?: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 7 + 2 = 26Dmg: 1d12 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Grint, your chance to end this, if you don't, the coterie will finish him off.
--------------
Grint
Thorn Dulani |
I will note Sivar had a straight shot to Sven when he attacked. As Father Burdock was unconscious and therefore not in the way and thus would have hit. Thorn is ALSO unconscious but that is obvious here.
Stabilize 2 Electric Bugaloo: 1d20 ⇒ 18
Grint Mavric |
Grint 5-foot steps north-east so he can see Sven more clearly, then aims his bow at his body and fires.
Attack, Single Shot, PBS, Fatigued, Not fit to handle the weapon: 1d20 + 11 - 1 - 2 ⇒ (2) + 11 - 1 - 2 = 101d8 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (7) + 7 - 1 = 13
And another two, so far we're not impressive at all.
GM Chyro |
Yet the coterie leader's in the way of a 100% clear shot, Thorn, if attacking from above the plank's square.
Sivar was going with a fauchard.
Sven growls at the spreading of the group on the ship.
Thorn's condition stabilizes.
The coterie leader makes a firm swing and ends up on Sven, who lets out a fading howl, before falling onto his back.
Once down, he reverts to his human self.
Combat over.
Mwk. Greataxe
Ring of nat armor +1
Potion of CMW x1
A letter written in Skald.
2x mwk. chain shirt
2x waraxe
2d20 ⇒ (12, 13) = 25 gold pieces.
Time to get off this ship, as it's still going through the portal. I'll get to the rest in a bit.
GM Chyro |
What the good father said. :)
Time to spend some rounds' actions to your escape. While not combat, round timer's still ticking.
Bjärn moves over to the side of the ship.
"The önly way here, is tö swim ör jump tö the street.
As the ship's steadily going through."
GM Chyro |
I'm keeping tag here on the 'aftermath' rounds.
The ship has moved further down the portal.
Sivar smashes the crystal this turn. You all reshift your footing, feeling the speed of the ship slowing down, though still going.
By destroying the crystal you reduced the speed of travel by 5ft. The other crystal's still attached on the boat...over in the icey climate of Irissen.
Who knows what's been going on there by now....
---------------------
Elsa, Grint?
Jadwiga Elsa Harcatha |
Elsa is gonna follow Grint wherever he goes...
Grint Mavric |
Grint moves towards Thorn and Burdock and grabs Thorn's unconscious body and drags him into his square.
He looks to the Mohawked man with a glare and shouts in Common to him.
"If you help Elsa, help this dwarf as well. Take him off the ship!"
"Elsa, please get off the ship. I'll drag Thorn out."
GM Chyro |
Bjärn's not impressed in the least, it kind of reminds you of the calm a certain noble lady wears.
"Dö you knöw even the basics öf waking sömeöne up?"
Bjärn turns Father Burdock around by the shoulder, before shaking him a few times to wake up.
He then moves to the sides.
Strength check, pull off shield: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
"Use these tö stay afloat."
Father Burdock |
Burdock staggers himself awake after being shaken. "Aye, what happened...", the dwarf cutting himself off as he sees the ship going through the portal.
Looks like no way to smash the other crystal and stop the portal/ship action, 'eh?
GM Chyro |
Unless you want to step into the icey climate that is.
No telling what lies beyond the portal though. But hey, i won't stop you. :)
GM Chyro |
The ship goes through another 5 ft.
From below comes a yell: "Boss, we've got ourselves the due pay!
Plus some other smaller boxes."
Coterie leader: "Bring 'em all up, we've got to leave this here boat."
The dwarves come up with a bag that clings, full of coin.
Along with a small chest and 2 smaller locked boxes.
Charge strength: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
The coterie leader bashes loose another shield.
"There's a ladder somewhere near, if ye can stay afloat and swim a mere 10 feet, you'll be fine."
It's not on the map, but passing a DC 10 swim check gets you to safety.
These wooden shields, while having some metal, are enough of a floating object to give a +4 bonus to swim checks, or to carry small objects.
Sivar Soulscar |
Sivar casts cure light wounds on Thorn now that he thinks of it releasing him if he wants.
is the walkway still there? My move action awaits this response
clw: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Father Burdock |
Strength: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15 Burdock pulls off a shield, then hands it to Sivar. "Don't waste any time unless you want to see where that thing'll take us!", Burdock then jumps into the water and tries to swim.
Swim: 1d20 + 2 - 8 ⇒ (17) + 2 - 8 = 11
Huzzah! Clutch roll!
... and somehow doesn't start drowning in his masterfully-made dwarven fullplate.
GM Chyro |
Elsa, Grint, Thorn, Yes man, you're conscious and able to do stuff again. what's the plan?
GM Chyro |
What type of balloon does not pop when hit with a needle?
Yet might even change color?
Thorn Dulani |
Unless you have a negative (A big one) You can swim across on your own on a 10. Or just jump to the other with a DC 10 Acrobatics (As there is room to get a running start... luckily Burdock took the Swim instead)
Thorn awakes, slowly at first, gripping his axe once more and highly wounded. He only remembered pieces of the battle but knew undoubtabley he had fallen shamefully.. multiple times. Unsure was the complete end to this combat.
Who cant get across otherwise?
Grint Mavric |
Grint jumps into the water as well and tries to swim to shore. If needs be he will help Elsa to swim as well.
swim, fatigued, ACP: 1d20 + 6 - 1 - 3 ⇒ (12) + 6 - 1 - 3 = 14
Sivar Soulscar |
Sivar throws the shield in the water under where he is going to attempt to jump over Grint and Burdock..
Taking 10 my acro roll is 16 for the jump
GM Chyro |
As the ship continues to go through the portal, the group abandons ship and swims to the ladder back up to the street.
Now that you all, coterie & Bjärn included, stand upon the docks' brick street again, the sight of the ship going through the portal is both a relief and surprisingly elegant.
It doesn't take long though, before the coterie leader shifts an icey glare at Bjärn.
"You injured several om my comrades. Were it not for you apparently being with the lady, i'd give you a thrashing on the spot."
Bjärn's unimpressed, yet slightly amused by the resolve of the dwarf.
The dwarf turns around towards the haul his fellow dwarves retrieved.
"Now, let's see what is in the chests."
A case with 2500 gp
Mwk Dagger of frost
Wand of spell of ill omen (10 charges)
+1 Warhammer
2 potions of mage armor
A small empty picture frame.
Gems worth 800gp Appraise 20: worth 1000 rather.
Jadwiga Elsa Harcatha |
With me? Hardly. I have no idea why Bjarn is here, will you now tell us little Härgsen. And where is my Brother?
GM Chyro |
"...Hahahahah", the big ulfen laughs heartily, standing a head above Elsa.
"Sidste gang jeg vidste, den lille var dig, min dame."
"Last time i knew, the little one was you, my lady."
Shame on you guys who read her spoiler.
Your brother's a magus, this eagle's a cursed subordinate of his...spoke up too soon in presense of your dear mother. :)
Bjärn's your tutor to be, if you catch my drift.
With some minor effort, Bjärn speaks common without his ulfen accent too much interfering.
"Well, for starters....that's your bodyguard?", Bjärn looks Grint up. "I suppose he'll do, ...anyway, back to your question.
Your brother caught wind of your mother's plans to seek you out, after your 'escape' in port. Suffice to say, some of her couriers went missing, for some reason. [Chuckles] After which she eventually hired the Snow Falcons.
It was rather surprising to find out they were hindered by something, we had nothing to do with. When your brother told me your mother resorted to employing Sven the tracker...that forced some more dire measures.....me in this case. I've come a long way in my training since last we met. Though i'd have to admit, i was slightly surprised your sister sent along one of her maiden witches."
The eagle lands upon Bjärn's shoulder, listening to the rest of the conversation.
"However, we found a master craftsman wizard to craft you something."
Bjärn takes from a necklace pouch, hidden underneath his outfit, a bracelet with a rune of an ice crystal.
"This is a special bracelet. It works similar to a hat of disguise, save it hides your appearance from those who deliberately search for you. Those without ill will, or your friends, will see you for who you are. Be that via face to face sight, or even scrying magics."
Jadwiga Elsa Harcatha |
Ah. Well, thank you. Mother must be bored with politics to seek me out so far from home. And at such an expense, surely I don't mean that much to her, I DO have Sisters. Elsa accepts the gift and will wear it.
GM Chyro |
"Not so much that, it's more that your sisters have taken a prized item from your mother's collection, with the pretense you took it when you left.
Arnfinn Found one for your brother. asked me to look for you, in hopes i'd beat Sven to it. Though with the ship getting back to Irissen waters, it will be known i am involved, for throwing an ice beam at the witch maiden."
[Chuckles]
"I'll bet their icey demeanor will heat up when hearing of the sudden setback. It's risky for me to head back for the time being.
I know your family's well versed in the ice magics, but i've developed my own style that requires no magic, i can show you a thing or two later if you'd like. Anyway, it's good to see you again."
Thorn Dulani |
Thorn watches the interaction between the two but doesnt say much. It was not his place to do so but overall it seemed it was fine Elsa was saved. Though no large part to their own efforts.
He speaks on something however, " Y-You are clearly Ulfen. P-proud. I-If you had not shown w-we would have died, a-and the wolf-man... p-pitied us. I-Is this normal? "
GM Chyro |
Bjärn: "Sven showed pity?
Us ulfen are a proud people, yes, but he's usually dedicated to his duties. Unless someone treads his honor, then you could see a potential wedge, sure."
The coterie leader raises a brow.
"If he didn't show? Lad, i recall my lads and myself fighting off ulfens and doing a share of help on the wolf. You mohawk, what in Torag's name was that warrior, a full fledged werewolf?"
Bjärn shakes his head. "Not quite, but you're not wrong either.
From what i've heard, Sven's family traces a werewolf ancestor. It seems once in every few generations, it manifests in the power to take the shape of one, yet not fully sharing the powers or curse of one.
I think he's in for one, if he didn't quite die yet. Sven's a hardy type."
Seeing the majority of Thorns wounds, he puts a hand on your chest.
"I can fix some of that, but you'll be feeling a bit of a slight burn within your chest. Nothing you can't sleep off."
Kinetic heal, by accepting burn (nl dmg) equal to your # of HD, Bjärn can heal you for his dmg worth of kinetic blast. The nl you recover with rest.
