Unfortunately, the pain from the severe wound took its toll on the dwarf's aim.
Burdock then steps back, preferring to be flanked by the two smaller bugs than the massive one in front.

GM Chyro |
She would, but not with that roll on acro, but with difficult terrain you'd be inside the small tunnel.
Let's say the tunnel becomes properly sized, relatively speaking, from the red line on.
Thorn Dulani |
Thorn tries to shield his eyes with his axe and fight past the acid bile upon him.

Thorn and Elsa make quick work of the last two beetles.

Thorn Dulani |
" The beetle cut d-deep, Father are you alright? "
Thorn looks over the good father to inspect his well-being before turning to inspect the area around. " A B-beetle nest, this could have been t-troublesome for the caravan. I am n-not to sure on what to d-do with it however. "
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
GM Chyro |
Provided Thorn is with light, he notices two small tunnels, but only fit for something the size of a small dog. Not even halflings woould fit.
Among the remains, he finds a small mwk aklys on the pale skinned humanoid.
+1 Bane weapon, vs dwarves.
The two ashen skinned dwarves are identified as Duergar.
Dressed in light armor and with a few common daggers and shortbows, these would likely be scouts.
Thorn Dulani |
Thorn casts light as he has it as a Cantrip
Thorn inspects he items and passes them to Burdock as he would have better luck with them.
" D-Duergar. Ran into these b-beetles as well it s-seems. The t-tunnels are likely caused by the s-smaller beetles. I t-think the rest of the e-expedition will be safe now. Though I am not s-sure how long these people have been. "
GM Chyro |
The Orc-hammer brothers have set up the basics for camp when you return from the tunnel.
"I heard shout of bugs? Were they big?"
Father Burdock |
Craft Weapon: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 30
"Those are crafted to be a bane against dwarves. May be useful against duegar, but otherwise it'll be simply something to sell later.", the dwarf having a bit of a reluctance to use the equipment otherwise.
When the party returns from the tunnels, Burdock applies healing magic to himself and Thorn Assuming we're doing the 8 hours rest, I can top both of us off without bothering to roll.
"One was large.", pointing to the gash in his armor as Burdock starts removing it so he can patch up his equipment. "The others were far smaller, thank the Dwarffather."
GM Chyro |
Younger Orc-hammer: "Well, at least you are alive. I prefer my death back home."
Two of the other three dwarves have taken up watch, overseeing the other exit. As you have a meal, the scholar of the Orc-Hammers opens up a map, which he shows you as well.
"This is to be this expedition's main destination.", he points at a region on the map. "This is a vast cavern, where one of the last former inhabited dwarven cities was at. Called Kanderluff, it was said to be the city where our forefathers organized the exodus to the surface."
The elder Orc-hammer nods. "Though we've heard of a final bastion of resistance, that stood between Kanderluff and the rest of the Darklands. I think it likely Kanderluff is partly, if not currently, occupied by hostile residents. Most likely Duergar, but i wouldn't be surprised if other creatures would roam the cavern. So i hope you're not squeamish."
Thorn Dulani |
Thorn absorbs the given knowledge, welcome to the conversation. He simply shakes his head respectfully at the last portion. " W-We have contracted t-to protect your expedition f-for the opportunity given. My c-comrades have faced greater horrors a-and I am not an e-easily frightened man. Y-You have no worries. "
Thorn says, taking a bite of some hardtack dipped in beefstew, waterskin on standby for the gulps in between.
" If a hive of beetles t-took on the Duergar and died t-to our hands, then I have f-faith our group as a unit w-will succeed. B-Be wary of Father Burdock's w-words however. T-They have w-weapons meant to h-hunt you. "
Sivar Soulscar |
Sivar nods at Thorns words and seeing his motion notices just how hungry he is also, he digs into his food trying to time words between bites.
"Yes we will be beside you no matter the danger"
GM Chyro |
With the dwarves on sentry watch, you tuck in for the night.
-------------
Wandering?: 1d100 ⇒ 5 Nothing, sweet dreams.

When you had your sleep and rations, the group heads forth. After a small trek of maybe 2 hours, you come to a stop at a small clearing of approx 40 ft wide.
Moist clings to the roof, as stalactites have formed.
On the other side of the clearing, some 15ft up, is a ledge with another tunnel.
Between it and you, however, is a 15ft wide trench of water along the entire clearing. The edge is somewhat moist, yet not outright slippery.
Its surface is 6ft lower than the floor you're standing on.
The trench is 15 feet deep from the water's surface.
You can vaguely see...something move down below, likely, but can't make out what it is.
Sivar Soulscar |
Sivar peers through the darkness with his light spell to help him see

Who's preoccupied, as he's visiting his family.
Despite access to PC. ^^
Sivar Soulscar |
Sivar casts light on the proferred arrow of Grint or he finds a rock and casts light on it and he casts it in the water.
rock throw: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
GM Chyro |
Sivar enchants the small rock and tossses it into the water with a small (splash). It sinks to the bottom, illuminating but not completely detailing the shape of some sort of dark grey fish.
Sorry for the simplicity of the map. On some PCs the web provider's firewall blocks interface of my favorite mapping website.
Father Burdock |
"Huh, what type of fish is that?"
-Posted with Wayfinder
GM Chyro |
Have a swim and find out. ;)
But the fish isn't the hurdle here.
Grint Mavric |
Sorry for the delay. Week's away to family with my girl, limits the amount of time you spend on the internet.
"Hmm... Fish don't worry me that much. We should stay more vigilant for terrestrial threats, unless that thing can pull us in."
I assume the fish isn't that big, if it's small size or bigger it might be large enough for a threat though.
"Anyone think that thing might be dangerous?"
GM Chyro |
The fish is roughly the size of a dog, from what you can tell.
(Small sized)
The best call given circumstances, is that it's a cavefish. Subterranean fish found in underground lakes and caverns.
They're scavengers if given opportunity, but otherwise feed off tinier fish and algae. But if intruded upon too closely, they might attack.
Thorn Dulani |
" I s-seems to be some t-type of cavefish, about the size of a d-dog. If we do not bother it, they u-usually do not bother us. We just n-need cross. Perhaps a quickly made ropeline. G-Grint do you have any rope? Or Sufficiently d-durable arrows? "
Grint Mavric |
"Hmm...I have a few blunt arrows on me, slightly more durable than normal arrows and I've got rope with me, though I don't think I can make an arrow stick on the wall at the other side. I can try though."
Sivar Soulscar |
"I have a rope and grappling hook, if you wish you can throw Grint as your probably the best for it.
Sivar takes out the silk rope and grappking hook
GM Chyro |
The upper of the two rows on the other side is the ledge with the tunnel. The lower is at equal level of where you are currently at, or those who want to dare a long jump, DC 17 acrobatics, due to environmental circumstances.
Jadwiga Elsa Harcatha |
Elsa performs acrobatics she never believed she could perform!
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20
She manages to skip over he crevasse and land safely
Come on Grint, you are holding us up. she calls over her shoulder
Thorn Dulani |
Thorn looks to Grint and nods, " L-Luckily there was n-nothing on the other side. S-Since your l-lady is over there, I s-suppose she can h-hold the rope. T-Though I am not sure h-how the rest of the expedition will travel "
Grint Mavric |
Grint sees Elsa jumping so easily over the crevasse that he nods at her skill.
"Didn't know you had that in you Elsa. Let me get a running start and I'll try to land as gracefully as you did."
Grint binds the rope at his waist then takes distance for a running start.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 4 - 2 = 21
After a leap of faith he clears the distance, evidentially stunned at his own skill just now.
"Well I'll be... I'll hold on to the rope. Tie it to your waist and then jump across, I'll brace and hold you. Can someone make a rope bridge perhaps instead?"
