Thorn Dulani |
I suppose we can get the reward and then spread our efforts towards training, helping the poor and whatever else our characters might see fit
Thorn give a slight bow once more, " V-Very Well, The Father here is m-more versed in the Inn name t-than I. "
Father Burdock |
Huh, didn't realize that spell extended Raise Dead duration range. Rocking.
"Thanks kindly. We look forward to hearing from you.", Burdock shaking the Orc-hammer brothers' hands.
"Let us go to the guard. We need to get some funds to prepare ourselves as well."
Jadwiga Elsa Harcatha |
Elsa will be keeping herself busy hanging out with the new guy from Irrisen.
GM Chyro |
Grint, be warned, Elsa's hanging out with another guy!
Paying a visit to the guard station, you bump into the dwarf from the warehouse. A reward of 450gp each is handed to you, with the remark that, should you ever feel up for it, they'd pay for any assistance you'd be willing to lend.
Working a long day at the docks earns you 10gp per day.
Con check DC 12 to avoid fatigue for the next day, which nets you slightly less, 7 gp.
The markets earns less, 6gp, but is easy money.
Picking up the rumors takes some DC 15 perception or diplomacy rolls.
Bjärn's happy to catch up on the 'what's been going on' with you.
He tells you your brother's doing fine and that he's been regional champion within the nobles' fencing competition as of late.
Your family's the same as when you left, mother's still in the politics but your sisters had falsely accused you of taking a prized item upon departure, so as to hire Sven. He guesses, but thinks it unlikely for the nearby future, Sven would try again due to his honor.
"...that aside, Elsa, would you care to pick up a frost combat style, that requires no magic? I know your family's frost magics are superb, but even magic reserves run out eventually, or are even nullified in some parts of the world."
[ooc]He's offering the training of levels into kineticist.
Sivar Soulscar |
I'm not from Irrisen?
Sivar scootches around to hear about rumours and such.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
Sivar goes and works on the docks casting lesser restoration if he becomes fatigued
Jadwiga Elsa Harcatha |
Does Father Burdock have Craft: Wonderous Item?
GM Chyro |
Save for the fact you're dealing xd6 like there's no tomorrow, opposed to your limited ammo of snowball.
Father Burdock's playing a kineticist in a PFS i run, believe me when i say they are very versatile....and deadly. Well, as long as the group's not bottlenecked.
You didn't hear that from me.
@ Elsa: Seems Father Burdock does. What are you after?
@ Sivar, how many days will you work at the docks?
GM Chyro |
Oi, those be her personal spoiler. :)
Shame on you.
Sivar, the dwarf said a month, you have 30 days of downtime.
Sivar Soulscar |
Ha I didn't even realise when I typed that, I don't even remember their being a spoiler... guess I was really really tired.. and I guess I make 3000 gold then?
GM Chyro |
More like 300. 30x10.
If only it were that simple.
Sivar Soulscar |
I need to find your apprentice and show him all he could gain by stabbing you in the back.. gotcha..
Sivar ponders his cash bounty not enough for mithril plate or similar yet...
GM Chyro |
Contrary to the foolish fellow sith, i don't teach an apprentice everything i know, and even keep 'insurance'. No betrayal...muahahahaha.
Father Burdock |
I guess I need to know who wants what made. I assume we'll sell anything we don't want which is arguably most of that list. If no one wants it, though, I'll take the ring of natural armor. If that's ok, we sell everything else and the party splits the rest of the amount for about 2K each.
I can enchant weapons and armor, plus wondrous items. It'll be at crafting cost minus 5% for a trait I have. Just let me know so I can make sure there's enough time for all of the crafting.
Father Burdock |
Bah, somewhat. The gems should still sell for their full value at least, but that's only about 1/10 of the amount. Still, makes what I can do more valuable to make those amounts go farther.
GM Chyro |
Hope the 1st day of christmas has been good so far to everybody.
Posting intro to this part, weĺl proceed when everyone's posted they're set.
During the wait, you get a visit from your brother Turk.
The two of you sitting at a table, a tankard of a cousin's homebrewed mead in hand, he shares some findings.
"Brother, good to see you. It's come to my attention you and your friends are going to the darklands with the Orc-hammer brothers. While that is a surprise, and i pray Torag for his blessing, it might also be essential that you do."
He takes out a few pieces of paper and unfolds them onto the table.
"This is a copy from some pages from the smiths' guild older crafting manuals. As you know the smiths' guild encompasses a variety of crafts like armor, weapons and also craftsman of jewelry and decorative items, like the decorations in Torag's chapels.
But this here, see this passage on runes? This is about locks and runes, like those on your tome. If the Orc-hammer brothers are venturing to seek out lost heirlooms and history, keep a lookout for anything about runes and old locks. It might be key to opening the tome."
There has been no protecting needing done for Elsa, as her training with Bjärn has progressed quite well. Foregoing magical force, Elsa now has knowledge of influencing the elements around her in a more direct matter.
Bjärn had made some mild comic wordplay in Skald, about how Grint looked a little soft, compared to Ulfen standards.
All in all, though, he let Grint know he appreciated his promise of upholding Elsa's safety.
Working the docks, you found yourself the only one with elven blood. While the humans didn't, some dwarves sometimes made jokes about an elf-blood working for dwarves. Despite it, they appreciated your effort in the physical labor.
They shared some stories when in the tavern during off-time, of past adventures and other cities within Varisia.
One in particular, spoke of a young skilled varisian fortune teller woman, who could see future with eerie accuracy.
Her name was Malena Omoroi.
Spending time sparring with a diversity of dwarves and sailors had paid off. You had become stronger and found there were some like minded individuals, determined in work and with strong moral codes.
Almost after a month of doing your own business, the younger of the Orc-hammer brothers showed up in the tavern, seeking you. With the message of them having finished preparations, he asks you to pack your essentials and follow him to their shop.
At the shop, the elder brother awaits you, 5 dwarves and 2 humans were geared up. 2 dwarves were clearly not for combat, looking like a humble clergy and a scholar. The dwarves were obviously frontline muscle, with the humans a bit more versatile.
Elder brother: "Ah, there you are, are you all set?"
GM Chyro |
She is a traveler, often staying a few weeks before hitting the road again. Latest hearsay has her spotted headed to the town of Galduria, in southern central Varisia.
A few sailors have docked in Kharum some months ago, saying a fortune teller at the docks matched her description, but that during their more recent last visit, they heard she hit the road.
Still quite a distance from where you are now.
Thorn Dulani |
Thorn had come much more cut and hardy but no less short or hesitant. His stare seemed distant before eyes laid upon the Dwarf.
" M-More or less, T-though I am not sure if I will m-make the trip. H-Hopefully the m-mission will succeed. W-We will help as we can. "
The grip on his axe was tight but practiced based on the clear bruising on his hands and wrappings there. His armor a heavier set than last.
Grint Mavric |
Grint looks to buy a longbow and some more stuff, hoping he can find it in Janderhoff while Elsa is training with Bjarn and comes back later to see how the two are progressing with the training.
Grint visits the local armoury/weapon trader for a longbow and then strolls through the more magically inclined shops searching for any of the following items: Efficient Quiver, Bracers of Falcon's Aim
GM Chyro |
Finding a bow isn't too much of a problem, as the dwarves guarding the tunnels down below need bows too.
Bracers of the Falcon: 1d100 ⇒ 32
Efficient Quiver: 1d100 ⇒ 42
The magical items he's looking for, however, are not in the Janderhoff shops.
No spellcasters for Bracers of the Falcon are currently living in Janderhoff.
Those are druids and rangers.
CL 9 level dwarf wizard?: 1d100 ⇒ 60
An elder dwarf, master scholar and strong wizard, resides somewhere in the district for magics and rune studies.
Father Burdock |
@Grint: I can make the Bracers without fail by taking 10 on my Spellcraft check. It's DC for me would be DC 8 + 5 for not knowing falcon's aim, and my T10 is 19 :) With my trait, the total cost would be 1900 gold and I can make that in a single day. I can also do the same for the quiver, too, with a total cost 855 gp in a single day. Selling the stuff on the loot sheet AND using your cash, this would cost 2755 and leave you with 66 gold left.
So I went through the loot sheet and added to everyone else's cash amounts their portion of the selling of the loot. I wanted the magic ring so I took that and divided the remaining loot gold with everyone else, so the cash values should be accurate and that is what you have to play with. Likewise, I still have a lot of work I can do for others as Grint's requests will only take 2 out of the 30 days time I have. If not, then I'll make some Day Job checks and try to earn a bit more coin.
GM Chyro |
I'm forwarding, go ahead and post when updated and ready.
A little combat's around the corner.
The expedition, now commencing, takes you down Janderhoff's lower levels and districts. Eventually, the elder Orc-hammer brother points ahead.
"Yonder is a border outpost. 'T seals access between Janderhoff and the tunnels to the Darklands, we're taking a small tunnel from just up ahead."
A little talk with a few guards, still declaring him a fool for the venturing, you are allowed passage. The trip through the initial tunnel is fairly uneventful.....
Non-dwarves need torches or other sources of light from here on.
Father Burdock |
Alright, making Grint's stuff. If Thorn does happen to purchase his masterwork eastern armor (either by getting regular and paying for Masterwork Transformation or just finding a set), Burdock will enchant it from his cash to make it +1. Aside from that, I imagine the party cleric would be doing work within the temples, almost a bit of a pilgrimage back within the hallowed halls where he studied.
"Aye, I'll look for them. I appreciate the advice and company. It is a strange lot I am traveling with, but they are good folk and I can only pray that our meeting was guided for a reason."
Burdock calls for one more round for him and his younger brother. "It's still good to see you, even if it's a bit more for business than family gathering."
To present
Burdock is preparing by purchasing two sets of flash powder
GM Chyro |
Some smaller tunnels further down, the group makes a stop.
Eldest brother: "Right, we need to check two passages.
It won't be far apart, but these 5 will check north and you'll have to go south."
The brothers are both steadfast in their choice, and you find yourselves a 60 feet south. While walking, Sivar and Father Burdock, through their enhanced vision, notice a wriggling mass on top of a spider carcass.
The light from the human party members draws attention though.
I've taken the liberty of drawing a circle, indicating light from a torch, centered on Elsa, whom i figured would carry a torch or be cantripped. Anything beyond the line is lower light to humans.
Elsa: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Father Burdock: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Grint: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Sivar: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
Thorn: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Swarm: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
So much for the easy start.
Swarm, round 1
Thorn
-------
Swarm
-------
Sivar
Elsa, Father Burdock & Grint
Jadwiga Elsa Harcatha |
Elsa no longer has cantrips but other than that, yep.
Thorn Dulani |
" Wait.. I see something... "
Thorn narrows his eyes trying to determine what type of Swarm they be.
Know.. Something?: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Thorn Also has Light
GM Chyro |
You'll need to see them in the light to be sure. Current position, they're just outside proper view (to humans).
If you do, you'll notice it's a centipede swarm.
Creepy and crawly, these centipedes normally eat insects and, if none present, vegetation. However, if very hungry, they will attack bigger prey, using their numbers to crawl all over and bite the target.
Said bites carry poison.
Thorn Dulani |
No I meant light the spell I assumed this adjusted things but likely 5 ft or so
Thorn switches his training towards defense and waits.
Change Teamwork Feat to Phalanx Fighter
GM Chyro |
How much bonus AC and saves does the team get?
Insects, unless made fiendish, aren't evil in nature.
And the team's venture has officially begun!
Swarm, round 1
Thorn switches tactical methods and waits.
-------
Swarm rapidly closes in, a blanket of crawling insects.
As it does, it crawls all over the party except for Grint.
Swarm dmg + poison: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 3) = 4
To those getting swarmed, 2 fort rolls please.
1st) Fort DC 13 to those getting swarmed.
frequency 1/round for 6 rounds; effect 1d4 Dex damage; cure 1 save.
2nd) Fort DC 13 vs distraction. You are nauseated for 1 round if you don't pass.
-------
Sivar
Elsa, Father Burdock & Grint
Sivar Soulscar |
Fort poison then distraction: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 141d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Sivar resists the effects of the bugs and then attacks with an acid flask
Acid flask: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 91d6 ⇒ 6
GM Chyro |
By the position on the combat map, you'd be dropping it at your own feet? Tough guy. ;)
Something on swarms, full dmg goes at a succesful touch AC, otherwise if you target vs AC 5 you deal 3 dmg splash.
Jadwiga Elsa Harcatha |
Fort1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27 and Fort2: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Elsa resists the worst of the swarm. She moves and hurls a freezing ray of ice at the swarm It's energy so it does damage normally
Blast!: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17 its v touch so Cold Damage: 3d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 2, 1) + 2 = 10 and the Swarm is entangled. The swarm can remove the entangled effect with a standard action and a DC 15 STR or Escape Artist check.
Elsa accepts the burn of her new magic, and her body begins effluviating ice.
1 Burn.
Grint Mavric |
Grint feels useless as he didn't prepare for swarms at all.
He curses himself for not having alchemist's fire or a bludgeoning weapon with him to squash the bugs.
" Guys? Can you handle this, my archery skills are useless here."
GM Chyro |
Swarm, round 1
Thorn switches tactical methods and waits.
-------
Swarm rapidly closes in, a blanket of crawling insects.
As it does, it crawls all over the party except for Grint.
-------
Sivar grabs a flask of acid and drops it at his feet.
It breaks, splashing Elsa, Father Burdock and Thorn for 1, as well as the swarm.
Elsa moves away, swatting off centipedes. Trying her new found technique, she notices potential, but it's a miss by just the tiniest bit.
Touch 18
Father Burdock & Grint
Father Burdock |
Fort vs Poison: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 7 + 2 = 27
Fort vs Distraction: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Burdock shrugs off the bugs, stepping back while pulling out an alchemist's fire, then tossing the vial in the area he was just at.
Aiming at the swarm, not the square
Alchemist's fire @ Centipedes: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Fire damage on hit: 1d6 ⇒ 4 +50%
GM Chyro |
What the stout dwarf said. :/
Father Burdock takes some distance and also lobs a vial of chemicals.
Grint, Sivar & Thorn take 1 splash dmg, while the swarm takes 6.
Nice roll there.
Grint
Thorn, you can post your actions ahead to speed this up. You're the only one before the swarm.
"None will stand before the swarm".
The queen
