Father Burdock |
Kn: Religion: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
"Yog-Sothoth.", Burdock eyes glaring as this cult seems to be everywhere... and that somehow, fate is setting the group against this evil once more.
"Grint, Elsa, it's best we enlighten Thorn and these folks that things are going get ugly fast unless we stop them.", Burdock's dwarven resolve setting in.
Father Burdock |
"No, worse than you think. We've dealt with other worshipers of this crazed god from the Dark Tapestry. Their demented evil knows no bounds. This is far more than just a simple kidnapping, Thorn."
Grint Mavric |
"The last time we've met followers of Yog-Sothoth, they were trying to enslave and corrupt an entire mental hospital. Let's just say it wasn't pretty what we encountered there, medical experiments for one."
Jadwiga Elsa Harcatha |
Not my most favorite time or place Elsa says drily
GM Chyro |
..."You can tie me up and let me live, right?"
The man shifts his gaze between the four of you.
Father Burdock |
"Aye, I don't kill prisoners. But you will do your time."
Anyone else have rope? Mine is dangling down the well. And Grint should do the tying methinks.

Thorn Dulani |
Thorn furrows his brow a mix between apprehension and anger before dulling to frustration. " It is then my duty to stop this r-regardless of my p-perceived capabilities. A-as for your punishment.. execution is h-handled very carefully... y-you surrendered, as long as your c-crimes were light.. t-then death is not your end. "
Thorn turns to Father Burdock, " Y-You should knock him out so he does not wiggle away h-however. "
Jadwiga Elsa Harcatha |
Elsa raises her eyebrow at Thorn.
GM Chyro |
The man sarcastically responds to that;
"Gee, let's see;
Petty theft, horse theft, art theft, leaving the tavern without paying. Sounds pretty light to me."
Thorn Dulani |
" So you have committed no murder or a-anything of the sort... unjustly? "
Thorn has a stone stare at Elsa. " He is a brigand.. y-you do not honestly believe h-he has no skill in s-slipping bonds? "
GM Chyro |
"No, unless you count swatting flies as such.
Personally, i'm against killing...sure i've mugged someone, but i refrain from killing."
Knock out, bind and proceed?
Jadwiga Elsa Harcatha |
I'm sure I have no idea what a man such as this one has or does not have. You would know better than I Elsa says imperiously
Grint Mavric |
Grint intends to bind the man's hands and then slaps him out cold, it might take a serious whack or two, but he ain't going anywhere. He'll use the flat of his greatsword to do so.
"Sorry mate, we don't want you to cause a ruckus just yet."
After the man is out cold he looks to the others.
"I think the plan was sound to bind him and knock him out, perhaps next time we need to bring a sap or something. attacking him with the flat of my sword feels weird in some way."
Jadwiga Elsa Harcatha |
Or we could not go around binding and clubbing people...
GM Chyro |
Perception 20, and you see a hidden door to the east.
GM Chyro |
The man's lights go out after Grint whips the flat of his sword against the back of his head.
*Sound of body hitting the floor*
On the west wall, there are stacks of grain and corn wrapped and tied neatly in cloth.
A chest in the 1st room, requires a DC 15 Disable Device, or break with a DC 17 str check.
Jadwiga Elsa Harcatha |
As permanent as scaring the wretched thing and sending him running in terror...I abhor senseless violence. It reeks of the peasantry. We are nobility or at least we should act like it, not some gang of ruffians.
Grint Mavric |
Take 10 on Perception for a 22?
"We should check that carefully hidden door to our east as well as trying to pry open this chest. Well pry open..."
Grint tries to manhandle the chest to reveal its contents.
Strength check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
There's a faint sound of a snap heard, one cannot be sure if it was the chest, Grint's back muscles or a rip in his pants, but something gave way and Grint hurriedly stop his first attempt.
"Phew, that thing is jammed pretty strongly. Let's try this with a crowbar then."
Strength check attempt 2, with crowbar: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 3 + 2 = 23
GM Chyro |
You're in no immediate danger, so yes.
Grint forces open the chest.
1d100 ⇒ 47 gold.
2 flasks of acid.
6 daggers
4 short swords.
10 trail rations
2 bottles of fine wine
Thorn Dulani |
Thorn looks at Elsa and takes a full evaluation of the lady before speaking again, " W-What Grint proposes is well within your motives t-then. T-there should be no issue. W-We should examine the rest of this p-place and then H-head to the barn. "
GM Chyro |
With that, Father Burdock & Grint carefully open the door.
Beyong lies a empty, save for a chest marked with 'provisions'.
A smaller 5 ft wide corridor is to the east, a faint light coming from beyond.
Father Burdock's likely taking point again, who's behind him? Unless of course, you want to keep a gap between each other ;)
GM Chyro |
In that case, i'll need a reflex from Thorn.
GM Chyro |
The ground ahead in the corridor is uneven, even for an underground hideout. Almost as if the ground is covered up, like a pit.
Perception Father Burdock: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Grint Mavric |
You can locate traps while taking 10, though I'd need to be searching the room itself to notice them.
Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32
Grint looks around, seeing the slightly strange corridor room and whistles lowly.
"Look out guys, I think this corridor is trapped. Look over there!"
Grint points to the others where he thinks there might be a trap.
GM Chyro |
Yes, however if there is danger in the vicinity, there's no taking 10.
With Grint pointing out the corridor is trapped, you won't fall for it.
Or will you?
Acrobatics DC 15 to jump across.
There's only 5ft for a small running start, reducing DC 20 to DC 15.
Grint Mavric |
Do we know there is danger in the vicinity? Probably not, so we're not distracted when we're looking for traps or hidden doors. Taking 10 There's nothing to distract my focus from searching like combat or toxic gases.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 4 - 3 ⇒ (17) + 4 - 3 = 18
Grint easily jumps across the gap and removes a little of the trap's cover to see what's underneath it.
GM Chyro |
At which point you've come into contact with the danger that was over there searching for you.
2 mutts stand growling, their handler with them.
Ruffian: "Greetings mate, looks like you're trespassing here.
Linda, Lucy, ATTACK!"

GM Chyro |
From your 'cell', you hear a slight commotion, as the sound of dogs came by.
1: "Hey, where're you going with the dogs?"
3: "There's been a sign of intruders down in the underground.
I'm gonna check it out."
*Roof..rroof*
2: "Fine, i'm gonna check on our 'guests' again."
1: "Whatever..."
Got your improvised boxing glove ready?
Make an attack roll and initiative roll.
Thorn Dulani |
Curious why Thorn would need a Reflex.. rather than Father Burdock, but its moot now. Unless I guess it was both of us and you were going to roll for Burdock.
Thorn's reactions kick in faster they the should have, feeling the rush of danger, yet he wasnt confident even from the last battle. As he came to look across he saw the enemy on the other side with little capability to help.
He moved and got out his sling sheathing his axe.
GM Chyro |
That's because i forgot to factor the perception roll.
Round 1
Thorn takes out his sling in preparation.

Jadwiga Elsa Harcatha |
Eh, I thought the dog was dead! Must've been two dogs...
GM Chyro |
Yup, Grint killed 1, another was in front of him.
Thorn Dulani |
Thorn loads the Sling with a bullet and sighs, it never went well when he used this weapon but he had to at least try. Whirling the leather in a tight circle he releases the bullet towards the man in the back, hopefully past ( and not into) Grint's head.
Sling Shot: 1d20 ⇒ 11d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

GM Chyro |
Yet again Elsa's aim is good, as she hits the man again.
He barks a command to the dog.
"Lucy, come!
This...huff...isn't over just yet."
Holding his chest, he heads up the spiral stairs. Double move.
The dog makes motion to follow.
Grint gets an AoO, if he wants to.
Combat over.
