The All-Seeing Eye. |
Lonam keeps his Sanctuary spell going, and waits for someone to need his healing services.
The seal/shark-like creature keeps on sleeping.
****************************************************
CURRENT INITIATIVE:
Block 3:
Uriel, Ilyanaro, Chalkou, Boudacia & Raziel
Block 4:
Pink Water Mephit (DM counter: 2), Cyan Water Mephit (Asleep for 5 rounds, & DM counter: 2)
Uriel of Mendev |
Seeing Raziel struggling, Uriel reaches out into the water and grabs his hand as it clutches the corner of the door, pulling him into the room (standard action reposition). Uriel then pulls his sword as he moves further into the room on the catwalk to give the others room to maneuver (draw weapon combined with move).
Reposition Raziel: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
Boudacia |
Boudacia employs the Slumber hex on the pink Mephit while flopping around rather inelegantly in the water.
Can someone coup de gracie that seal shark nasty?
The All-Seeing Eye. |
... while flopping around rather inelegantly in the water. ...
Are you saying that you are flopping around in the water? Cause if that's what you think, you are incorrect. You are now standing on a solid floor - a VERY much dripped upon floor! - but still a solid floor! Once anyone comes through the doorway into room E8 they pass a magical barrier that is holding out the water from the hallway. The platform around one corner/side of the room is 2 ft above the level of the water in the room. For someone to coup de grace the seal shark, they would have to get in the water, since it is 10 ft down to the bottom of the tank from the water's surface.
Pink mephit's will save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
And the pink mephit drops limply into the water and sinks to the bottom.
CURRENT INITIATIVE:
Block 3:
Uriel {Full HP} (Already went), Ilyanaro {Full HP}, Chalkou {HP 46 of 67 & possibly continuing to take acid damage?} (Already went), Boudacia {Full HP} (Already went), & Raziel {Full HP}
Block 4:
Pink Water Mephit (Asleep for 5 rounds, & DM counter: 2), Cyan Water Mephit (Asleep for 5 rounds, & DM counter: 2)
My helpful DM friend suggested it might be good to keep a record of player's HP & any statuses on the initiative counter, that way everyone - including the healer! - can be aware. I thought it seemed like a good idea.
Ilyanaro Balmaris |
"Those hexes are our most potent attack, I think, Boudacia. Good work. Now, how to eliminate those creatures without endangering anyone else?"
Know(arcana)? For monster ID: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21
The All-Seeing Eye. |
Ilyanaro recognizes the seal/shark creature as a Bunyip. He knows they can go into a frenzied sort of attack and their bites make you continue bleeding! (Rage and bleed.)

Raziel {Full HP}

Pink Water Mephit (Asleep for 5 rounds, & DM counter: 2), Cyan Water Mephit (Asleep for 5 rounds, & DM counter: 2)
The All-Seeing Eye. |
Well past the 24 hrs for Raziel to post, so botting.
EDIT:If you saw what I previously posted, ignore that!
Raziel moves further into the room just to get out of the crowded hallway if nothing else.
Knowing that any damage done will wake them, and that he probably doesn't have a spell powerful enough to kill any of these outright, he chooses to do nothing for now.

The mephits continue sleeping ... zz ... zzz.

CURRENT INITIATIVE:
Block 1:
Lonam {HP = 32 of 37}
Block 2:
Bunyip (Asleep for 3 more rounds)
Block 3:
Uriel {Full HP}, Ilyanaro {Full HP}, Chalkou {HP = 46 of 67}, Boudacia {Full HP} & Raziel {Full HP}
Block 4:
Pink Water Mephit (Asleep for 4 rounds, & DM counter: 3), Cyan Water Mephit (Asleep for 4 rounds, & DM counter: 3)
Lonam Asri |
Loam will channel (selectively) to heal himself and any party members. healing roll: 5d20 ⇒ (17, 1, 6, 18, 10) = 52
Ilyanaro Balmaris |
Loam will channel (selectively) to heal himself and any party members. [dice = healing roll]5d20
Think you meant 5d6, Lonam. Although d20 channels would be cool I guess
"If we are to slay these monsters while they still sleep, one of you swimmers should go below and stab them to death. My magic will only wound and awaken them, and that defeats the purpose of Boudacia's magic entirely. "
Ilyanaro points at the slumbering creatures in the pool and looks towards Chalkou.
Uriel of Mendev |
I just checked Uriel’s code of honor for Iomedae. He should be okay killing the ones who attacked him, but he probably won’t slay the sleeping Bunyip since it never attacked.
”Are we sure the shark is hostile?”
With everyone safely in the room, Uriel will use a full round to double move swim over and down to the pink mephit, preparing a coup de grace for next round (no current here, so take a 10 on swimming?)
The All-Seeing Eye. |
Loam will channel (selectively) to heal himself and any party members. dice = healing roll 5d20
Yes, Lonam, as Ilyanaro mentioned, I'm sure you meant to use 5d6, not 5 d20, though that would be some awesome healing! In the interest of time I will go ahead and re-roll that for you. Don't forget to be keeping track of how many times you have used it! It is limited after all! :-D
Corrected healing roll: 5d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 4, 3, 5) = 18
And we seem to have skipped right over me posting the 'sleeping' round for the bunyip, which I totally understand, but I do still have to keep track of the rounds please, so, no more skipping 'sleepers' please. *** And Uriel is correct, there is no current pushing you in this room. I am fine with the take 10 on swimming. *** Ilyanaro just checking, you didn't actually take any actions in your post, so were you delaying to see if someone followed your suggestion or what is your plan for this round please?
The bunyip keeps on 'snoring' away. What kind of wood do aquatic creatures saw when they are 'snoring? Hmmm ... ?
As Uriel swims down he is observing his environment ...
Uriel Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
The first thing he notices is a rather obvious ... ? 'shining hole'? in the southeastern corner. Probably another water portal since it looks just like the one in the other room where the big water elementals were. But Uriel is not certain. Then as he glances back towards the rest of the group, he notices that directly under where Chalkou is standing, there is a passageway heading West, at the bottom of the tank.
And Chalkou is probably wondering what that lever in the floor next to him does? (Black line with round knob? on the map next to Chalkou.)
Lonam Asri |
I am so sorry. I'm trying to use a tablet and cell phone while at work. I am keeping track of spells and channels in my character bio, 3/8 for channel energy so far.
Boudacia |
”Are we sure the shark is hostile?”
"I guess we do not Uriel. Does anyone know if it is intelligent?" replies Boudacia, while searching her memory for anything on mephits.
Knowledge Planes: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 30
What Boudacia wants to know is how intelligent they are and if there is any point trying to question them. Also alignment and if it is typical of them to attack like that.
The All-Seeing Eye. |
Boudacia? I'm a bit confused. First you ask in character if anyone knows if the bunyip (seal/shark) is intelligent or not, but then you make a knowledge check asking specific questions about the mephits? I mean, you have the best chance of the whole group of knowing about the bunyip which is a magical creature so know. Arcana. What I'll do is roll a knowledge Arcana for you to see if you can answer your own question, and then I'll pass along what you know about the mephits as well.
Knowledge Arcana for the bunyip: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 30
Boudacia knows all about bunyips. They are not overly intelligent. (Int 2), but fiercely territorial, and capable of inflicting a fair amount of damage.
She also knows all about Water Mephits. For one they are smarter than your typical monster (Int 6), And like most monsters they will defend their own territory when it is invaded by 'outsiders'.
*************************************************************
And sorry, I never posted the current initiative again, because I was thrown off of my pattern by someone skipping the sleeping seal/shark. So I'll post that now. I will have to allow for the 24 hr rule from the time I get it posted, but it would be appreciated if posts could be made sooner possibly?
CURRENT INITIATIVE:
Block 3:
Chalkou {HP = 64 of 67}, & Raziel {Full HP}
Block 4:
Pink Water Mephit (Asleep for 4 rounds, & DM counter: 3), Cyan Water Mephit (Asleep for 4 rounds, & DM counter: 3)
Chalkou |
When Ilyanaro suggests finishing the sleeping mephits, Chalkou nods and swaps his crossbow for his longbow, then plunges into the water.
Swim: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (14) + 17 = 31
Moving to put some space between myself and the enemies so that I can use my longspear. will start coup-de-graces next turn.
The All-Seeing Eye. |
Thank you guys so very much for the quick responses/posts! I really do appreciate it!
Chalkou, your post says you switched to longbow?, but then you mention the longspear. Just to be clear the longspear is what you mean to use correct? Fairly certain of that.
EVERYONE: since there is no current to fight against in this room, you can take 10 on swim checks, half-speed as a standard action! So if you want a move action for something else you can.
Raziel sees the water portal at the bottom of the southern wall, and he can also just make out an opening underwater at the bottom of the western wall. (Weird colored 'archway' I drew on the map.) Raziel also takes notice of the lever on the platform by the western wall, and the opening in the western wall up at the same level of the platform most of you are standing on. But he observes no other threats, or anything else of interest.
Raziel, I'm fairly certain that Uriel & Chalkou have the underwater situation under control, so not to worry. *** And thanks, but the HP tag was Uriel's idea actually.
***********************************************************
The two mephits continue sleeping peacefully as well. Note to self: MUST find hostiles immune to sleep! Or MUCH better Will saves! ;-)

Lonam will keep a watch while the front-line fighters take care of the sleeping enemies. Perception roll: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Boudacia |
"Just been thinking about our foes. The Bunyip is basically a territorial animal, but a dangerous one. The Water Mephits are semi-intelligent creatures from the plane of water. I suspect they are attacking us as we are intruding on their territory. Brutal as it sounds I suggest we kill all the creatures else they attack us again. And quickly as they will not stay asleep long."says Boudacia. With that the witch, taking her own advice, dives underwater in search of sleeping mephits. Game mechanically, Boudacia will spend a round swimming to where the closest mephit fell, then coup de grace it next round with her dagger.
The All-Seeing Eye. |
Sorry for my delay. Sunday afternoon is my tabletop day though, but then we had some strong storms (Stormy? What you doing to me?), lots o' wind, and my internet was out most of the afternoon & all evening!
Lonam keeps an eye out for things, but sees nothing new. He also wonders about the lever on the ledge and the opening (at ledge level) that heads west. He also spots the Water Portal at the bottom of the tank in the southeastern corner. As he leans out over the edge of the platform trying to see under the platform he also spots the underwater opening heading west. (Weird shaped letter C or arch lying on it's side? looking 'thingy' on the map. - Hey! I dare any of you to try figuring out what kind of drawing to make to indicate an underwater opening in the wall! Haha!)
The Bunyip (which got skipped over again! AHEM!) continues sawing at the tough looking kelp logs. (No actual Kelp in the tank, just trying to be a little humorous!)

Having, unfortunately, heard none of the conversation after he slipped into the water and moved adjacent to the pink mephit last round, Uriel follows through on the plan and executes the strange little creature that attacked his party.
2H Longsword Coup de Grace: 2d8 + 30 ⇒ (1, 8) + 30 = 39
The All-Seeing Eye. |
I know the Paizo web-site was down for a while yesterday, ... but where is everybody?!?! And I also understand the current situation doesn't have much activity and it can be hard to know what to do during these times, but I have been making hints! I also understand those who are not front-liners not wanting to explore on ahead and risk getting into trouble, there is however a lever on the ledge that no one has bothered even mentioning, less yet done anything to check it out. What other suggestions can I make? Is there someway I can help improve this game for you all and make it more interesting perhaps? I know that I am NOT the greatest DM out there by far! But I'm trying to make it fun for everyone!
********************************************************
Uriel's sword slices clean through the pink-tinged mephit which immediately vanishes into thin ... water? :-D
********************************************************
"Chalkou assists Uriel in finishing enemies as needed, then looks around for anything interesting underwater."
You are supposed to specify which target, because you do have both the cyan-mephit & the bunyip as targets and you can only coup-de-grace 1 hostile at a time. And by RAW you are still supposed to roll for your damage. Since you said you were assisting Uriel I'm going to say you were attacking the cyan mephit and since your minimum damage doubled (Coup-de-grace) is more than enough to kill it, I'm not going to worry about the damage roll - which I'm guessing is what you were thinking as well - but I am going to have to limit it to 1 creature/coup-de-grace per round.
Chalkou's longspear thrusts right through the cyan-tinged mephit and it vanishes as well!
********************************************************
Going ahead & botting Ilyanaro & Raziel.
Trusting his allies in the water have the situation under control, and being the seeker of knowledge that he is, Ilya (AKA Ilyanaro) walks over to the lever and checks it out. He sees it is designed to move from one side to the other, but as to what it's purpose is he knows not. The only way to truly know would be to pull the lever, but he decides there is wisdom in waiting for his allies to be prepared in case something bad should come of it.
Raziel walks over past everyone else and tales a peek around the corner into the westward opening ...
Raziel's Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15
He sees this is just a doorway into another room that is 30 ft across, and it also has a platform ledge and a water tank. There also appears to be another water portal at the bottom of the southern wall in this next room as well. It seems oddly to be extremely similar to the current room you are in.

Sorry, summer vacation and about 8 hours of beach time with a toddler yesterday. Also, not a while lot I can do until threats are eliminated.
"This lever does something, but what that is I cannot tell. Only experimentation will elucidate us, but that could prove quite dangerous if the room or switch is trapped."
Lonam Asri |
Lonam reports the results of his perception check for all to hear. He will dispel his Sanctuary spell (only one more round anyway).
"I think that lever will open the drain for this room and allow us to dry out a little."
The All-Seeing Eye. |
No problem Ilya! I was not aware you are on your summer vacation. hope your enjoying that time with the toddler! (Presumably your own child or at least a niece/nephew! Haha!) Just don't get too bad of a sunburn!

Raziel Drakan |
Like I have said previously, my post is spotty at best until the 15th of July - it is easy to drop by for a quick post, but more elaborate ones are harder to manage on the phone.
Raziel moves up to the lever also, trying to ascertain its purpose.
Using the same logic a rogue would use to ascertain how a Lock works, and how to enable/disable it - would Disable Device be of any use? Could I take 10 on it, for example?
The All-Seeing Eye. |
Using the same logic a rogue would use to ascertain how a Lock works, and how to enable/disable it - would Disable Device be of any use? Could I take 10 on it, for example?
If you wanted to make it stop working, yeah, sure. And yes, you could take 10. Would that tell you what it's purpose is? No. It is not locked nor is it trapped.
Looking at the lever, Raziel easily figures that it is not locked in place, and there appear to be no traps on it. As a matter of fact, considering the watery environment and the lack of rust, it appears well maintained, and possibly recently used?
The All-Seeing Eye. |
Ok, so what skill could give an idea of what its purpose may be? Engineering?

So, it looks like the seal is waking up sometime this round. Anyone going to join Uriel in his fool's errand to make nice with it?
The All-Seeing Eye. |
It has now been more than THIRTY-EIGHT AND A HALF HOURS since the original initiative post was made on Tuesday 7/2 @ 1:21 pm Central. AND HALF OF THE ADVENTURING PARTY HAS NOT POSTED?!?!? I have been extremely generous and allowed an extra 14.5 hrs (That's more than 50% extra!!!) but at this point I shall go ahead and bot Ilya, Chalkou & Boudacia. Due to the combination of things (Extra 14.5 hrs allowed, HALF the party not posting, general seeming lack of interest perhaps?) I am going to bend the rules slightly on the order of actions so as to hopefully encourage players to make their own posts in the future. All 3 botted players (Ilya, Chalkou & Boudacia) will still be acting together in the same initiative block however. And Boudacia's actions will be based on her post where she said ...
"With that the witch, taking her own advice, dives underwater in search of sleeping mephits. Game mechanically, Boudacia will spend a round swimming to where the closest mephit fell, then coup de grace it next round with her dagger."
*
Having dived to where the nearest mephit (Cyan) was located, Boudacia finds it is already gone, but the sleeping Bunyip is right in front of her, so she shall go ahead and try to Coup de Grace it with her dagger. But just as she goes to stab it, it wakes up!
As clearly noted on my round counts in the initiative trackers it's fifth round of sleeping was just this round on it's turn (Just before the main group initiative) and since the sleep was caused by Boudacia's hex I am ruling that it wakes up on Boudacia's next standard action, but it cannot take a normal action until it's turn and it is prone & flat-footed until such time. But this causes Boudacia's coup de grace to become a standard attack vrs it's Flat-footed AC & it gets the standard - 4 to AC for being prone. However, since her intent (and thus her action) was to make a coup de grace, and the Bunyip is no longer asleep (and thus not helpless) it does threaten her space and as such her coup de grace attempt does provoke an Attack of opportunity (with a - 4 to attack for being prone). I realize all of this may be somewhat questionable as to if it is correct by the RAW or not, and as such I will always welcome diplomatic questioning/discussion on the subject, but I have thought about this for several hours now, and I believe my interpretation of the RAW is correct. The only thing I have done is to allow Boudacia to act first out of the three botted players whereas going strictly by the numbers Ilya & Chalkou would act first. My reasoning for allowing Boudacia to go first is that she had a very specific action already posted as her intent for this round, whereas neither of the other two did. Also Ilya would have little to no actions (Based off of his most recent posts) to take to affect this event. Also, one attack from the Bunyip cannot kill Boudacia even if it should go critical. And so as such I am not taking an action to outright kill a player's character. *** So as such, here's the Bunyip's AoO.
Bunyip's Attack of Opportunity - 4 for prone: 1d20 + 7 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 7 - 4 = 12
(And after all that talking/typing it missed anyways! Hahaha!)
As Boudacia swings her dagger at the Bunyip, she is shocked to see it suddenly open its eyes and it tries to bite off her hand! Luckily she manages to avoid its powerful jaws!
Boudacia's Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3
And Boudacia's dagger strikes into the Bunyip's head hurting it slightly!
Blood starts flowing out of the wound into the surrounding waters ...
**********************************************************************
Ilya (AKA Ilyanaro) notices the witch acting like the crazy, maniac that she normally portrays with her cackling laughter, by instead having dived into the water apparently thinking her little dagger is going to be effective against these creatures. Oddly enough he sees the Bunyip apparently wake up, attempt to bite her, and then Boudacia's dagger surprisingly does draw blood! Ilya is so shocked that he has no idea what to do!
I really have no idea what to do in this case other than possibly a magic missile or some such? So I will allow this as a possible delay if Ilya wants to take some other action.
**********************************************************************
Everyone: Just to be clear I am subtracting the - 4 to AC for being prone from the Bunyip's Flat-footed AC. - Of course none of that was needed for Boudacia! Hahaha!
**********************************************************************
Chalkou is also taken by surprise at the strange witch's actions but being the warrior he is, realizes this is his opportunity to try to kill the Bunyip.
Chalkuo's attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 17 ⇒ (6) + 17 = 23
And Chalkou's longspear thrusts deeply into the Bunyip's side!
And more blood flows into the surrounding water ...

Block 3:
Uriel {Full HP}, Ilyanaro {Full HP}, Chalkou {HP = 64 of 67}, Boudacia {Full HP} & Raziel {Full HP}
Lonam Asri |
Lonam will make a 5-foot adjustment and attempt to pull the lever, reaching past Ilyanaro.
Ilyanaro Balmaris |
Sorry, driving home yesterday. Back to normal now.
Ilyanaro looses a force missile against the sea creature, unable to do much more than that.
1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 force damage (4 remaining)
The All-Seeing Eye. |
When Lonam pulls on the lever, he finds it does take some pull, but all things considered it moves quite easily, and pulls all the way across to the opposite position. Everyone on the platform hears clanking & grinding noises within the western wall. Those down in the water also hear muted grinding noises, and then a sudden final-sounding thud!
Boudacia Perception: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 4 + 2 = 20 +2 if Wayne w/in reach, Not night-time.
This is a visual perception and so Wayne cannot see this from within the satchel.
Chalkou Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24 Darkvision 60 feet
Uriel Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Boudacia & Chalkou both manage to spot a portcullis drop closed in the submerged passage to the west.
*********************************************************
Ilya then fires a missile at the bunyip.
*********************************************************
The bunyip suddenly lets out a roar! Somehow it suddenly looks stronger & healthier than it was before! It angrily bites at the nearest enemy it can see ... Boudacia!
Bunyip's Bite attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
It tears into Boudacia biting a chunk out of her thigh! And now Boudacia starts bleeding out into the water as well ...
Boudacia has just suffered a Bleed attack and will be taking 1d6 bleed damage at the start of each of her rounds until it is resolved!

Sighing silently underwater as violence erupts, Uriel has no choice except to protect the others. Lowering his hand from its calming gesture, he instead uses it to add to the grip of his longsword, slashing at the shark in a ferocious two-handed swipe.
2-H Longsword Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
2-H Longsword Damage: 1d8 + 15 ⇒ (1) + 15 = 16
The All-Seeing Eye. |
And - as often happens when Uriel swings his sword - the bunyip gets sliced in two & the pieces start floating away.
The battle is over. Officially out of initiative. Now, since there was no one left in the initiative before Boudacia's turn would have started, I could either keep you in initiatives to see what happens, but for time's sake what I will do - after having consulted with my helpful DM friend - is give Chalkou - since he is right there in front of her - a heal check to try to stop the bleeding before Boudacia takes that first d6 of bleed. I'll also go ahead and roll it for time's sake.
Chalkou Heal check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18 Wow! He made it!
Chalkou seeing Boudacia bleeding badly, reaches out to try to help her and by some miracle granted by whatever gods, he manages to stop the bleeding!
Current status listing follows:
Boudacia {26 of 32 HP}
Chalkou {HP = 64 of 67}
Ilyanaro {Full HP}
Lonam {Full HP}
Raziel {Full HP}
Uriel {Full HP}
What's next?
Uriel of Mendev |
Not sure what Boudacia’s status is after being bitten, but seeing a lot of blood in the water, Uriel reaches over and lays a hand on her, calling on Iomedae’s healing energy.
Lay on Hands: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 1) = 6
Uriel of Mendev |
Uriel helps Boudacia out of the water and onto the platform (if she would like help), then climbs out behind her, taking rearguard once more.
Ilyanaro Balmaris |
"So, what did that lever do? Drop a gate somewhere, block us in? I could not tell, what with the bunyip and worrying about Boudacia being eaten underwater."
Ilyanaro will look around for any other levers, buttons, or the like, potentially secret ones.
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12 perception to search for hidden stuff
Lonam Asri |
Lonam will aid Ilyanaro in his search.
The All-Seeing Eye. |
Ilya & Lonam find nothing else in their searches.
Lonam, just for future reference You would always need to roll the corresponding skill to aid another. In general getting a 10 or higher in that same skill, will grant a + 2 bonus to the other player. Or if you fill their die roll was too low (Ahem! Nat 1) you can always make your own die roll.
In this case (I'm being generous) it doesn't matter since there is nothing hidden. :-)

From the back of the party, Uriel motions to Chalkou to take point when the others are done searching.
I assumed Boudacia accepted Uriel's offer of help out of the water and back onto the catwalk. If not, feel free to move her back.

"Which way from here?" Chalkou asks, needing to know which way is forward in order to take point.
I assumed the next room to the west, but whatever you choose.

Well, looking at the map you have the submerged hallway you came through continuing to the west. Or you have an open doorway leading a room to the west. Or, as some of you know, you have un underwater passageway (now blocked!) also heading west.
So as John Babsone Lane Soule in the Terre Haute Express in 1851, said: "GO WEST, YOUNG MAN, GO WEST." Hahahaha!!!
Then again, you still have unexplored areas (E6 & the submerged hallway leaving from E2) back up to the north if you wanted to be rebellious. ;-)
