Uriel pivots to attack the green water creature, bringing his sword to bear once more.
Longsword Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23
Damage: 1d8 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
The All-Seeing Eye.
And the greenish elemental drops into the water as well ...
(Both elementals are dead, though your characters are not sure of this. Out of initiative!)
Uriel of Mendev
|
Uriel sweeps his sword through the water where the elementals were, looking to find any resistance or see any more “aggressive water”. Assuming he finds nothing, Uriel shrugs his shoulders and nods to Chalkou, waiting for him to lead on. He then moves to cover the hallway as requested.
Boudacia
"How about we search this room then continue down the hallway past Uriel?"says Boudacia, who then starts searching the room, getting rather wet in the process.
Uriel of Mendev
|
"A wise suggestion, Boudacia," says Uriel. "Beware the current."
Uriel detects evil down the hallway and looks carefully to see if there is anything in view above the water...
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Lonam Asri
Lonam looks at Chalkou's back "Go with the blessing of Milani," whispers Lonam.
Lonam Asri
Lonam will carefully move south two hexes, feeling his footing along the way, to end up in the corner.
Does the current flow faster in that smaller neck? I am curious if there is some kind of drop-off or sluice gate that the water is being drawn through.
The All-Seeing Eye.
First of all, just a friendly reminder to everyone that these areas all have approximately 2 ft of water and are Difficult Terrain (Cost 2 squares per each square!).
And also, my apologies. I forgot to mention earlier; Ceilings: Unless otherwise stated, hallways and rooms are only 7 ft high.
*********************************************************************
Boudacia finds nothing special in this room. (E4 to be clear. Especially without a Perception check! - There was nothing to be found anyways.)
Uriel detects nothing evil and sees only water ... 'So MUCH water all in underground rooms!'
When Chalkou gets to where he can see into the room, he sees:
"A half-submerged shimmering area on this room’s northern wall spurts out a little water just as he gets where he can see it. Sturdy tables stand about a foot above the water level. Some are stacked with crates, others with bedding."
The water is very clear and you can see a few small fish, a starfish or two or three, a small variety of crabs, and other aquatic animals moving around, but nothing dangerous or in 'swarm' quantities is currently visible. This is obviously NOT their normal environment. You suspect they may be somehow connected to that 'shimmering area' in the northern wall.
The tables were extremely difficult to see on the map, so I went ahead and drew them in. :-D
*************************** Lonam *****************************
You are able at first to hear what sounds like a small waterfall, and as you get closer to the corner you are able to see there is a small wall (it goes East-West) just below the surface of the water, about 2 ft tall, which is causing the waterfall. It only drops about 2 - 3 feet into the water in the next room. You can tell there is some difference in the current right in front of this side of the wall, and you can tell it is just a pieced-together wall made out of pieces of rubble and whatever could be found laying around. You cannot see the bottom of the water in the next room. You can see:
"This room is filled from wall to wall with water that reeks of dead sea life. The small waterfall pouring from the northern wall churns up silt and other filth in the water, creating a murky mess."
*********************************************************************
Just a commentary here. The party has currently gotten themselves spread out quite interestingly ... An evil DM could really take advantage of that to have some fun of his own! ;-)
Secret DM roll: 1d4 ⇒ 2
Boudacia
Boudacia moves forward a little and observes the room before her, thinking for a moment and then saying "Can we all get a little closer together? We could be attacked at any moment and the first law of strategy is not to divide ones forces. This room looks interesting. There is what is obviously sea life in here, which cannot have got here by normal means. My guess is that shimmering patch is some form of teleportation gate. We have seen other such spatial and inter-dimensional anomalies in the spire and it's surrounds. And we can all rejoice, we have lots of crates and what look likes bedding to search through, with water all around. One of these tables may be the infamous water table. And the presence of bedding may offer a clue as to how this level became flooded. Inadequate toilet training."
Boudacia shifts into bestial form, not to a bat a partial transformation, to enhance her perception, then looks around the room and tries to establish if the water is fresh or salt.
Perception, Boudacia, Room: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20
Perception, Boudacia, Water: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20
Thanks for the warning Stormstrider.
Ilyanaro Balmaris
"Agreed, Boudacia. As for your conjecture on the teleportation magic, allow me to take a look."
Ilyanaro moves up with Boudacia and inspects the small shimmering area with detect magic.
1d20 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14 spellcraft
1d20 + 13 ⇒ (14) + 13 = 27 kn(planes)

"In such environs, staying nearby will invaluable. Communication and movement will become quite challenging once we fully submerge, as I expect will occur most quickly."
Uriel of Mendev

Trying to chime in on this esoteric conversation, Uriel is hampered by his low intelligence, only managing a minor pun, ”Yes, the situation is indeed fluid.”
The All-Seeing Eye.
Uuummm ... some people either need to move their icons on the map, or indicate where they are moving to. Ilyanaro? You definitely can't see into the room to make any of those checks from where you currently are. Boudacia, you didn't move quite far enough either for looking at the 'shimmering area'. I drew a 'line-of-sight' line to check it, and it just goes through that corner where I put the red X.
Keeping in mind the Difficult terrain please, but you all can do a double move to get 30 ft total, but I am keeping actions limited to 1 round actions for now due to a 'timing' constraint.
Boudacia
"I can sea the sense in what you say in our current situation Ilyanaro."replies Boudacia, somewhat lost in thought as she moves to get a better view of the shimmering area, searching her mind for what will hopefully be a flood of useful information.
KS Planes: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (20) + 15 = 35
KS Arcarna: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (10) + 15 = 25
Moved to where I should be Mr GM Sir. Boudacia seems to have cast Summon Pun Swarm.
Ilyanaro Balmaris
Yeah, on mobile, so moving up behind Boudacia. Most of the time I wont really be able to move the tokens.
Uriel of Mendev

Uriel will keep his Detect Evil going. He has his sword out right now, but that poor Perception check means he likely won't see anything coming unless it is evil...
Lonam Asri
Lonam will move straight across east 15 feet so as to bring up the rear of the group.
Are we moving into E5?
The All-Seeing Eye.
... Are we moving into E5?
That would seem to be the party consensus so far. It does make some sense because it means you don't have to start using any spells for water breathing or water movement as of yet ... I'm a good DM. I'll let the party give themselves enough rope to hang themselves on. ;-D
Uriel of Mendev

By the way guys, we are messing up the marching order...
Uriel is fine guarding the rear given that Chalkou is up front and we have an unexplored area to our rear.

Raziel Drakan wrote:By the way guys, we are messing up the marching order...Uriel is fine guarding the rear given that Chalkou is up front and we have an unexplored area to our rear.
I suspect that Raziel is referring to the fact that - on more than one occasion - he has volunteered to be the scout, stating that he designed his character as a scout. He has not been given the chance to play said scout at all so far. *** By the same token, in all fairness Raziel, the scout does need to be one of the first to be present and taking action, so if others in the group are checking in more often and they don't feel like waiting, well then, they are most likely going to scout ahead themselves. There is nothing wrong with either side of that 'coin', it is just the nature of PBP play. Again by the same token, everyone else please remember that not everyone has the freedom or ability to check in as often as some of us do. Not everyone is able to check in while at work for example, while I - still being unemployed! ARRGGGHHH!!! - have PLENTY of free time to check in on the game! So that means that those of us who are able to check in frequently, need to remember to be patient and - at least sometimes - allow time for other players to be able to check in and do their thing. Because nothing is more frustrating than having a character built to a specific task, and then not being allowed to perform said task!
*************************************************************************** ********
Raziel sees nothing else that hasn't been seen already with his look around the room. He is looking in E4 to be clear. Not E5 (due to his positioning).
*************************************************************************** ********
We ar not technically in Initiative, but due to something with a time constraint that is happening, I do need to keep you all limited to 1 round worth of actions each please. You will get another clue very soon! Hang in there!
Raziel Drakan
Actually, this time around I was not referring to the fact Raziel is build as a scout, nor volunteering for it. Think I've done it enough times already. But thanks for noticing and acknowledging it Stormstrider! Was actually referring to the marching order we had previously agreed upon ;)
Also, in fairness I believe I have been more or less constantly available and active (would be more available if on scout duty - have been the main scout before in other games, and understand in such cases they are relevant in moving the game forward. In this case it was decided differently, which is perfectly fine). Except for weekends - I might have said this already, but posting for me on the weekend is spotty at best (family time, etc).
Not sure if this is a trend, but for example looking at the past week, I see 14 posts Mon-Thu (I usually have been available to post multiple times a day during the this period), and 20 posts Fri-Sun. It seems the weekend is the most active posting period for the game? Unfortunately and like I said, that is the when I am least active.
That being said, I am cool with things as they are - Raziel does not NEED to be the scout. Game on ;)

On what to do now- I suggest we all move into E5 and search it thoroughly.
On scouting- I don't want to lobby for the role but Boudacia's ability to turn into a bat makes her appear to be, well, a bat with 40' flight and therefore a good scout. Wayne does want to scout as it gives him opportunities to gain the knowledge needed to become a vigilante who dresses as a human being to combat crime among bats.
On posting- I too have lots of opportunities to post. I try to be patient, not always successfully but I keep my impatience off the site as it isn't fair to others.
Chalkou
Chalkou tends to be more of the "I have lots of armor and hit points, I should go first and protect the squishy people" school of march order. Scout by bumping into things, as it were. Not that he'd be opposed to alternate theories, they're just not what occurs to him, left to his own devices.
Boudacia
Chalkou tends to be more of the "I have lots of armor and hit points, I should go first and protect the squishy people" school of march order.
As one of the squishy people I approve enthusiastically. Indeed, parties co-operating to keep arcane casters, usually the squishiest of all, in particular out of melee is just basic competence.

First let me say, not sure what's going on with Paizo. It was not indicating any new messages to me. I just happened to open up and find FIVE new posts!?!?!

... Scout by bumping into things, as it were. ...
Hahahaha!!! Now I'll just reference a quote here that at least some of you will recognize (And if you don't well then, Gorram it! you need to watch Firefly & Serenity! :-D) ... so here's the quote that Chalkou's post made me think of:
Zoe: First rule of battle, Little One: Don’t ever let them know where you are.
Mal with guns blazing: I’m right here! I’m right here! You wanna come in? Yeah you do! C’mon! C’mon!
Zoe: Course there are other schools of thought.
Or if you prefer you can watch this scene at 4:20 on this clip of firefly quotes. Sorry - I couldn't find a clip with just that scene.
******************************************************************
And Raziel, yes, you have done well being "more or less constantly available and active" on here. I meant no disrespect or anything bad by what I said. I was mainly saying that it seems to me that some people simply post on here more frequently than you do, but none of that is a bad thing. Just a timing/coordination thing.
The All-Seeing Eye.
My apologies. I just realized I forgot to answer Boudacia's & Ilyanaro's Knowledge checks.
Boudacia & Ilyanaro both realize this is a small, magical portal and by it's appearance - and the evidence all over this room! - it seems to connect to the plane of water.
Are we moving on? ... ? ... ?

...Just guarding the rear while the ones in front scout/investigate...

Can we move into E5 please! An issue has been made about marching order, so if the person up front can move in followed by someone less squishy than me.

Also, whenever you do get around to entering E5, please be very specific about your movement. If possible drawing a line/lines to indicate specifics would be great.

Be careful I sense a trap, ambush or some similar GM fiendishness.
Raziel Drakan
Ok, I am pushing us forward.
"Excuse me... Sorry guys... Coming through..." - Raziel moves up to the front, and behind Chalkou, observing the room - "Let me do a quick check" - he whispers, summoning a minor arcane detection spell.
Casting Detect Magic.
"Wait here" - he whispers again, then inches slowly into the room.
Trying to use stealth in a clockwise movement next to the room's walls: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (19) + 15 = 34
Perception (trying to detect movement or traps or other interesting details in the room or tables as I go): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28
My planned movement is (from where Chalkou is at the moment): N > N > N > E > E > N > N > E > S and check the luminescence. If I cannot move 'over' those tables (they are somewhat submerged, right?) I'll just move around them.
The All-Seeing Eye.
Be careful I sense a trap, ambush or some similar GM fiendishness.
Boudacia! Little old me who is always giving the group warnings and advice? Please say it ain't so! Why would I do something devious like that after all the kindness I've shown the group? ... :-D DM thinking to himself: Uh-oh! She's on to us! She knows us to well! Must eliminate! ;-)
*************************************************************************** *****
And just to be clear here: CHALKOU, the rest of the group seems to be waiting on you to make the first move into room E5 here. If I don't see a response by the evening of Wednesday 5/22 I'll most likely bot you, or have another player move on in, to try to keep things moving here.
The All-Seeing Eye.
Sorry Raziel. Apparently was typing my post up when you entered your post. *** And Raziel, your tag-line says your down by 18 HP ?!? According to my records you should be at full HP at the beginning of this encounter.

As soon as Raziel takes a look around, he realizes there is something in the water in the first northern 'bay' area. And as he continues his scan, he realizes there is also a something similar hiding in the first southern 'bay' area.
Judging by the looks in their 'eyes', they realize you have seen them ...

"Strike hard and fast. These water elementals will shrug off some of your attacks, and can drown you in deeper water. Make your blows count!"
Ilyanaro raises his staff and spins the glowing end in a tight circle while completing a complicated hand gesture with his open palm. A buzzing burst of magical energy sails out and touches Raziel, Chalkou, Uriel, Lonam, and himself. Everyone feels a short tingle before their limbs feel more agile and everything seems to slow down just a touch.

Suddenly moving faster, Uriel slogs through the water, ending up between Raziel and the cyan elemental, now that he has pointed out where the creatures were hiding.
"I will protect you, Raziel," Uriel intones.
Double move to base the cyan elemental--even with haste, the water slows him down too much for him to get an attack. He should be able to avoid an AOO from green, though...
Boudacia
Boudacia uses the Misfortune Hex on the Cyan Elemental and then begins to Cackle.
Misfortune (Su)
Effect: The witch can cause a creature within 30 feet to suffer grave misfortune for 1 round. Anytime the creature makes an ability check, attack roll, saving throw, or skill check, it must roll twice and take the worse result. A Will save [DC 19]negates this hex. At 8th level and 16th level, the duration of this hex is extended by 1 round. This hex affects all rolls the target must make while it lasts. Whether or not the save is successful, a creature cannot be the target of this hex again for 1 day.
The All-Seeing Eye.
Folks, my apologies again. When I wrote the 'attack' post earlier today I was battling to stay awake at the moment, and so making that post was not the wisest thing for me to do. First of all, I did not even catch Raziel's stealth! Sorry about that man. However, since they had been warned of your presence - Remember the blue water mephit that left right away in the very first encounter? :-D -, yes, they saw you automatically in this case.
Then, I totally forgot that for the Elementals to be hiding in only 2 ft of water, I ruled that they were prone (Thanks again for the suggestion from my helper DM who remembers and understands these rules a WHOLE LOT BETTER than I will ever be able to!), so there's no way the one would have gotten off two attacks as they have to stand up first! *** I think the simplest way to correct that - since they won't provoke AoO's from standing due to the lack of reach from the players, or in Chalkou's case the hard corner blocking him from making an AoO - will be to simply say to apply the damage from only one of the attacks and choose which one by a 'die roll' in traditional DnD/Pathfinder style.
Damage 1 or 2?: 1d2 ⇒ 2
So Raziel only takes 10 HP of damage.
************************************************************************
Raziel, First of all, it is ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, okay to ask a question!!! The only 'stupid' question is the one not asked. (Unless of course, if you're intentionally trying to ask a stupid question that is. But those tend to cause character deaths so ...)
I would highly recommend being explicit about your actions as in a PBP game such as this it is difficult to know what someone is thinking. I do believe that my description of the room was adequate enough to indicate there was nothing to be hiding behind or such. The tables were described as "standing a foot above the water". And by that I meant the surface of the tables, as the legs of course do go down to the floor in the 2 ft of water, and so not enough space to hide under the tables (without some form of water breathing I would say), and not enough cover to hide behind on top of the tables. NOTHING at all in between the tables - other than a couple of Large Water elementals that is! :-D

Elementals... Great :P
Yeah, I think my hp should be at max Stormstrider. Apologies.
Raziel cringes from the slam, but his mind immediately refocuses, and he falls into spellcasting - "Thank you" - he nods at Uriel and Chalkou for coming in his defense, before disappearing from sight.
Casting Vanish Defensively: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
He then tries to move across the room.
Think with Haste I can get there.
The All-Seeing Eye.
My apologies for my delay folks. Bad migraine yesterday & still somewhat in 'recuperation mode' today.
Raziel, yes, you can reach that spot due to the haste, just keep in mind that you are moving at full speed & through 2 ft of water, and also possibly provoking an AoO from green (due to his 10 ft reach) if he notices you (Not from Cyan, since it is still prone). I'm thinking that this will require a Stealth check (+15 for your skill + 20 for invisibility, - 10 for moving at full speed{?}), and I should warn you the elementals currently have a fairly high Perception skill. Though definitely not as high as your Stealth, so you still have a decent chance of being able to make it. And even then, since you're invisible, it would have to target a square, meaning it has a 50 % miss chance. Sound fair? For time's sake I will go ahead and roll your stealth and proceed accordingly.
Raziel's Stealth: 1d20 + 15 + 20 - 10 ⇒ (9) + 15 + 20 - 10 = 34
Green's Perception: 1d20 + 9 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 9 + 8 = 37
The greenish water elemental notices something moving through the water, making a couple of 'leg-shaped' holes where there shouldn't be any and he tries to hit it ...
Concealment low hits, high misses: 1d100 ⇒ 9 Possible hit?
Attack + Water Mastery: 1d20 + 12 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 12 + 1 = 31 Definitely hits!
Damage + 1 Water Mastery: 1d8 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 1 = 11 Damage!
The greenish elemental - despite all odds against it - manages to strike Raziel!
Raziel then completes his movement, getting out of the reach of the elemental.
*************************************************************************** *******
Then the Cyan elemental stands up (Provoking a possible AoO from Uriel & Chalkou...)
They won't be able to do enough damage to kill it since it cannot be Crit, so I'll proceed with it's turn in a moment.
