[dice=swim check]1d20 - 3
Lonam gets pulled ahead by the current, but at least from his new position he can see another door on the southern side of the next western hall.
Uriel of Mendev
|
Worried about Lonam being swept away with Chalkou not there to catch him, Uriel goes hand over hand down the rope with the current to catch up to Lonam, then tries to grab him and help him get a grip on the rope.
Swim Check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
| The All-Seeing Eye. |
Uriel is smart enough and lucky enough to manage to hang onto the rope and working together with the rope and the current he manages to propel himself faster than normal and gets ahead of Lonam managing to take a defensive posture in case an attack is forthcoming.
Ilyanaro on the other hand, is not so lucky and gets pulled along by the current once again, ending up in a tangled mess with Lonam once again.
*************************************************************
Ilyanaro, thank you so much for the quick response! All questions satisfactorily answered! - Silly me forgetting about my own house-rule about Perception as a class skill! Hahaha!
| Boudacia |
Boudacia attempts to swim forward once more, using the rope if possible. The witch stays alert for threats.
Swim check: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (2) + 0 = 2
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Uriel of Mendev
|
Uriel maintains position as the others swim down-current, assisting them as needs as they follow Chalkou, until he is once more at the rearguard. He will help those who appear to be discombobulated regain their grip on the rope.
Swim Aid another: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
| The All-Seeing Eye. |
Are we waiting on Boudacia? Or is it my turn again? I'll go ahead and post, just delay this until my turn if need be.
We aren't truly in initiative rounds. Most of the players seem to prefer waiting for whoever's in the lead to move first. HINT: You are that leader Chalkou!
Everybody: Going ahead and posting your action like Chalkou did and allowing for me to put them in the necessary order is absolutely fine! Especially when it helps speed up this process!
********************************************************************
When Chalkou swims around the corner he sees this hallway extends for at least 60 ft, but he is unable to see further than that due to the lack of lighting. He also sees two doors in the southern wall, one of them being right next to him.
Boudacia gets pulled along by the current and ends up next to Raziel.
Uriel, who despite wearing all the heavy armor, somehow keeps managing to swim almost as gracefully as a Sea Elf, positions himself right at the corner to help others as they try to move along.
Tick-tock, tick-tock ... :-D
| Lonam Asri |
Lonam will attempt to move past Uriel into the empty corner space, trying to indicate to Chalkou that any attempt to open that door could pull all the water into that room, pulling all of us with that sudden pull.
swim check: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (18) - 3 = 15
| The All-Seeing Eye. |
Chalkou does notice there seems to be no water current flowing in either direction through this doorway.
Uriel of Mendev
|
Uriel, (who is in medium armor, by the way), acts as a blocker, guiding the flailing Ilyanaro to the security of the rope (as rolled before).
| The All-Seeing Eye. |
Sorry folks, I was trying to get this setup, but getting too late and falling asleep. Please, NO FURTHER ACTIONS until I say. I'll make the post asap tomorrow. Encounter starting as you will see on the map.
| The All-Seeing Eye. |
Yep, typical. I slept about 4-4.5 hrs & then wake up wide awake. Grrr! - Anywho.
When Chalkou opens the door, strangely enough the water flow does not change at all. Upon looking into the room, you realize the water in the hallway you are in, stops flat against an invisible barrier in the doorway. Past the doorway, it appears to be a normal breathable atmosphere. You see:
A narrow platform hugs the wall of this octagonal room, just above the level of seawater filling the lower section.
The platform - on the same level you are - appears to be about 2 feet above the water level in the room (E8). There is what appears to be a lever on the western side of the room on said platform. And an opening or passageway? heading West as well. The ceiling is about 10 ft above the platform.
Chalkou Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26
Lonam Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Both Chalkou and Lonam spot three small, bluish, winged, creatures flying around. Chalkou also spots another strange creature down in the water. The flying creatures suddenly attack!
Boudacia Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Chalkou Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Ilyanaro Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Lonam Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Raziel Initiative: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Uriel Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Cyan Water Mephit Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

Red Water Mephit Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Strange Water creature Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Please double-check just to be sure - Current HP, I have everybody at full except for Lonam who is down by 2? And for spellcasters please remember to keep track of spells used. *** Boudacia, I know I said there was no rush on answering about the character clarifications for Hero Lab purposes - but I am still waiting!?!

Loam moves quickly in the first square of the room past Chalkou and casts Silence into the center of the room. (Spot marked E8) (20 foot radius, DC Will 16)
I don't trust my tablet to move my icon.
Swim check needed for controlled movement! I'll roll it for you to save time.
Lonam's Swim check: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (7) - 3 = 4
Lonam finds himself being pulled by the current again, and he is going to go past the door, but Chalkou can make a move to grab onto him ...
Chalkou you can take action on your turn to make a Reflex save to grab Lonam if you want to.
The strange creature in the water looks like some sort of a cross between a seal and a shark? Mainly a seal-head and body, but with shark-like jaws. It swims up to the surface and lets out loud roar, sounding somewhat like a lion. (This attack only affects creatures of 4 HD or LESS, so you all are fine.)
The red-skinned Water Mephit (Characters do not yet know what type of creature either of these are!) flies over in front of the doorway and breathes a cone of acid upon Chalkou & Lonam!
Chalkou Reflex save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Lonam Reflex save: 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 - 2 = 3
Neither of them manages to dodge out of the way! Taking ...
Acid cone damage: 1d8 ⇒ 7 Damage.

Sorry boss man but if I did not make it through the door then aren't Chalkou and I still in the water? The acid cone would be going from a dry environment through the doorway into the water barrier? Would this not affect the strength of the acid we were damaged with? (and to verify this means I never cast my spell?
| Ilyanaro Balmaris |
Water only affects line of effect for fire spells. Other elements and non-elemental based spells need only worry about LoS for water/air barrier plane.
Uriel of Mendev

Absolutely true if it is a spell. It just fills up the area off effect. If it is a supernatural ability that physically shoots acid out of its mouth in a mist of some kind, I would think that the surface of the water would block it relatively well, at least by the time you were several inches deep. If it is a jet, it would go deeper but would likely be more of a line than a cone...Of course, even a mist would coat the surface you would have to walk through if you wanted to get into the room...
Uriel of Mendev
|
My mistake, guys. Looking at it, supernatural abilities are “magical” in Pathfinder. My comments above would apply to “Extraordinary” abilities instead (since they are nonmagical).
| The All-Seeing Eye. |
Water only affects line of effect for fire spells. Other elements and non-elemental based spells need only worry about LoS for water/air barrier plane.
Sorry but per the Aquatic Terrain RAW that isn't completely correct.
"The surface of a body of water blocks line of effect for any fire spell."
So only fire based spells LoS are affected by a 'water/air barrier plane' as I read it.
*****************************************************************
All points made are good points. After researching & consulting with my helpful DM friend, we came to the conclusion that a Supernatural Breath Weapon would still work since it is a magical ability. However, there is some discussion on the web about Acid being diluted by water, so I am going to rule that while underwater, the Acid only does half-damage. So Chalkou & Lonam only take 3 points of damage each.
*****************************************************************
Since it is Raziel's turn and he just posted in Discussion that his posting will be spotty, I am going to go ahead and bot his turn.
Seeing that he won't currently be able to get past the others in line, Raziel decides to wait for a better opportunity. Delay. Don't let me forget!
*****************************************************************
The cyan skinned mephit and the pink skinned one both also decide to wait for better opportunities. (Delay.)
*****************************************************************
I forgot that Lonam can also try to make a Ref save to catch himself on the corner of the doorway, so ...
Lonam's Ref save - 2 for being 'out-of-control': 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 - 2 = 6 (Nope.)
*****************************************************************
CURRENT INITIATIVE:
Block 5:
Uriel, Ilyanaro, Chalkou (Move action Ref save to catch Lonam? or not?), & Boudacia
Reminder: Full round action with successful swim check (DC 10 if using rope) to move half your speed. Casting spells or hexes? READ THE 'Spellcasting Underwater' SECTION OF AQUATIC TERRAIN!
Raziel - ?
Pink Water Mephit - ?, Cyan Water Mephit - ?
| Lonam Asri |
Thanks, I was not disagreeing with the hit happening, or the ability of a breath weapon to reach it's target. Just the "dilution" of acid effect, which you did change above, so I appreciate that.
| Ilyanaro Balmaris |
Ilyanaro attempts to move towards the corner, using the rope to guide himself as best he can.
1d20 - 1 ⇒ (7) - 1 = 6 swim
Ugh
Uriel of Mendev
|
Uriel slides down the rope 5 feet and tries to catch Lonam before he gets swept away into uncharted territory.
Swim Check with rope: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15 move action to go 1/4 speed
CMB to reposition Lonam: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14 standard action to reposition Lonam into the room/out of the water
| Chalkou |
Reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Chalkou reaches out with an armored gauntlet, catching Lonam as he is pulled by.
Not sure I can still take actions as normal, it kind of seems like catching a creature as big as me would take a chunk of my turn, but in case I can:
Chalkou muscles past Lonam and stabs his longspear at the seal-shark creature.
Attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
Damage: 1d8 + 17 ⇒ (7) + 17 = 24
| The All-Seeing Eye. |
Chalkou, I did say at least twice, that the Ref save to grab Lonam could be done as a move action. So you can take another move action to get into the new room if you want, but you can't also make an attack. *** Besides that, the seal-shark is behind the Mephits, even though they are technically flying in the air, but at about the same level you are, so the seal-shark would get soft cover (+ 4 to AC).
If your okay with taking 2 move actions (1. grab lonam; 2. move into the room) I'm fine with that or you can choose to stay in the hall and wait 'til next turn to move in. Or you can decide to not bother grabbing Lonam, and then move in and attack. Please let me know.
So Chalkou's attack has not happened so far. *** Also Lonam you are correct in that your silence spell never was used.

CURRENT INITIATIVE:
Block 5:
Uriel (Already went), Ilyanaro (Already went), Chalkou (Already went), & Boudacia
Uriel of Mendev
|
Since Chalkou grabbed Lonam with a Reflex Save before Uriel’s turn, let’s just have Uriel change to a double move with his turn, getting another 5’ downstream (unless you rule he can get 10 feet as a move action due to the current).
When he gets there, his intent is to brace himself in the tunnel/doorway and “guard the rear” by keeping people from getting pulled with the current past the door. He will try to catch people and help them through the door if they appear to be helplessly caught in the current. If he doesn’t have enough actions left to do so, he still provides a pretty good blockage of the tunnel to aid in their save to catch themselves.
| Boudacia |
Boudacia, realising there is some form of conflict going on ahead in which (witch?) her help is needed, takes a moment to curse her younger self's lack of attention to learning how to swim, mistakenly reasoning she could always fly over the water. The shape shifting witch attempts more of this swimming stuff, trying to reach a position she can see the battle using the rope if possible.
Swim check: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (11) + 0 = 11
I am not sure how Stormstrider is going to adjudicate if I can use the rope, thus getting a +5 to move. I think if the answer is yes I can go 15' forward which I will do.
Second question is can I see enough to hex an enemy from there?
If yes I hex an enemy, the shark/seal hybrid by choice, but I may only be able to see the red mephit, it which case I will hex that.
If no, and I made my swim roll, I will move with my standard action as well, taking up position beside Uriel on the far side of the door ie opposite the blue mephit.
| The All-Seeing Eye. |
Boudacia, as to usage of the rope I am allowing it to lower the DC of the swim check by 5 to a DC 10 instead of DC 15 (Most of you would never make it if I didn't allow that! Your having enough trouble as it is!).
In regards to how far you can move, please allow me to refer you back to the Swimming Rules.
"Success means you may swim at up to half your speed (as a full-round action) or at a quarter of your speed (as a move action)."
So it takes a FULL-ROUND ACTION TO MOVE HALF YOUR SPEED. So since you did pass the swim check with using the rope, and your normal land speed is 30, that means you can use your entire round to move 15 ft. No hex, or anything else though.
***************************************************************************
Raziel will go ahead and take his delayed action now - changing his location on the initiative counter.
Raziel's swim check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Raziel gets helplessly dragged out of control by the currents, moving 10 ft towards the door, which leaves him in a mess of entangled limbs with Ilyanaro.
***************************************************************************
Now the pink & Cyan mephits take their delayed actions as well - also changing their locations on the initiative counter to the very end.
The pink skinned Mephit flies forward a little ways and breathes out a cone of acid!
Both mephits will be using their breath weapons, so I used two different templates, each colored to match their mephit.
Chalkou Reflex save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21 (NOT a chaotic outsider.) PASS.
Lonam Reflex save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 Fail.
Both of you are in the room now, standing in open air, so no water to dilute the acid. Pass the save for half-damage.
Acid damage: 1d8 ⇒ 6
(6 damage to Lonam - don't forget your 'celestial resistance! So - 5 = 1 damage - and that also means you took no damage from the previous breath weapon!,
3 damage to Chalkou.)
Then the cyan tinged mephit also breathes out a cone of acid!
Chalkou Reflex save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 Fail.
Lonam Reflex save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20 Pass.
Uriel Reflex save: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22 Pass.
Since Uriel is still in the water AND he passed the save, he will only take 1/4 damage. And since he also has Resistance 5 ...
Acid damage: 1d8 ⇒ 7
Chalkou = 7 damage
Lonam = 7 - 5 = 2 damage
Uriel = 7 / 2 = 3 / 2 = 1 - 5 resistance = no damage.

Lonam casts Sanctuary on himself then moves into the corner of the platform to make room for others to enter the room. (DC 15 Will save)
I realize the platform may be a little difficult to see, so I have marked it more clearly on the map. The platform is a narrow ledge along the western wall of this room. I moved Lonam's icon accordingly. *** And keep in mind that breath weapons not targeted specifically at you will still work, despite 'sanctuary'.
*************************************************************************** ***
The seal-shark like creature swims around quickly encircling the entire room and coming back to the same spot. He then roars again in frustration at not being able to do anything to these land-lubbers invading his territory.
The red skinned mephit looks around, moves back 5 ft, and starts to concentrate on a spell.
(Spell-like ability, making concentration check to cast defensively.)
Red's Concentration check DC 19: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 6 + 2 = 26

Still wedged in the hallway against the current, Uriel reaches out and grabs the next closest person, Boudacia, re-positioning her into the room so she is no longer in danger of being swept downstream to unknown areas.
CMB Reposition: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12 (standard action versus willing target)

Boudacia, relieved that she can now do something effective, employs the Slumber Hex on the shark/seal hybrid.
She then hears Ilyanaro, which comes out as a lot of bubble noises as he is underwater. She looks around and is relieved to see he is trying to talk not drowning.
| The All-Seeing Eye. |
Uriel manages to take hold of Boudacia and moves her into the room out of the rough waters.
Ilyanaro then finally seems to have figured out how to do this 'swimming' thing! He swims forward to the corner to 'float' next to Uriel.
Boudacia then casts her hex on the seal/shark-like creature ...
Seal/shark Will save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17 Almost!
and the seal/shark ceases to swim and starts floating towards the bottom of the 'tank'.
And then Raziel swims up and floats between Uriel and Ilyanaro, making for a very crowded hallway.

Chalkou? It has been your turn in the initiative since Friday (6/21) evening. I realize the weekend was in-between there and can be difficult, but, we did make a commitment upon joining this game to make an effort to post daily. Is everything okay? Also this is not the first time the party has been left hanging, waiting for your post. If I don't hear anything by sometime tonight I will go ahead and bot your turn for the sake of the rest of the party.
| The All-Seeing Eye. |
12:10AM Central, Tuesday 6/25, and no word from Chalkou, so I will go ahead and bot him as best I can.
Chalkou gets a strong grip on his longspear and thrusts it at the red-tinged Mephit directly in front of him. (Strong grip = Power Attack.)
Chalkou's power attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21
And his spear thrusts deep into the belly of the creature as it cries out in pain!
Damage: 1d8 + 17 ⇒ (1) + 17 = 18 (Sorry! But not even I control the dice!)
*******************************************************
The pink skinned creature then flaps backwards a little bit (5 ft - no AoO) and starts casting a spell.
Spell success? 1 - 25 Yes: 1d100 ⇒ 51 :-(
Then the cyan tinged creature also flaps back a little, (5 ft, no AoO) and starts concentrating on casting a spell. (Casting defensively.)
Concentration check to cast defensively DC 19: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 6 + 2 = 24 (Pass!)

| The All-Seeing Eye. |
For those of you still submerged in the water (That's anyone in the hallway - Ilyanaro, Raziel, & Uriel) if you want to be in control of your actions, you first have to make either a swim check to beat the water current that is trying to pull you along or I'll also allow a Strength check for simply holding onto the rope if you don't want to move, and just take some other action. If you pass the DC you then have the choice of swimming half your speed as a full-round action, or taking some other action - such as Ilyanaro's attempting to fire a force missile. :-) In the interest of saving time, I will make the check for him. In his case a Str check would be wiser since it has a lower negative. If you fail, you get pulled 10 ft by the current, or possibly get stopped by Uriel, aka 'The Doorstop'! ;-)
Ilyanaro's Str check: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5
Ilyanaro almost loses his grip on the rope, but manages to hold on at last moment! He can just barely make out the red-tinged creature now that it moved down into the water and his force missile hits it and the reddish creature suddenly vanishes from sight!
Everyone, please keep in mind line of sight and/or effect for creatures that have gone down in the water! Not certain that Ilyanaro had it, but decided to give the benefit of the doubt.
Ilyanaro only just manages to recognize the smaller creatures (red, cyan & pink) as outsiders known as water mephits, but he has no other knowledge of them.
You definitely do not have line of sight to the seal-shark, and have not even seen it yet, so, no knowledge yet. It will be Arcana once you do.

Since Raziel seems to be handling himself okay in the water with the rope, Uriel plants his feet and grabs Ilyanaro. Pivoting using the rope towards the door, Uriel attempts to reposition Ilyanaro into the room (same square as Boudacia), then uses a move action to get into the room himself (5 foot swim as move action).
Swim Check to be able to move effectively in the water: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

Chalkou stabs at the mephit to his front.
There is a reason I give each hostile a different colored border. Please use these to avoid confusion. In this case since the red one just vanished, I take it that you mean the cyan one, but then again it doesn't really matter too much in this case ...
Chalkou tries to stab at the cyan tinged mephit, but just barely misses it!

The current initiative was originally posted at 3:19 pm Central on 6/25. Based on the new 24 hr posting during combat rule, I will now go ahead and bot both Boudacia and Raziel.
Boudacia cast a slumber hex at the cyan-tinged mephit.
Cyan's will save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
And the cyan colored mephit tumbles into the water!
***************************************************************
Raziel, realizing that he has no visible targets, needs to move down the hall slightly to get into the crowded doorway if possible ...
Swim check to move 1/4 speed?: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
But he loses his grip on the rope and gets pulled by the current! He tries desperately to grab onto the edge of the doorway as he is passing by ...
Reflex save: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
Raziel just manages to catch a hold of the doorway! Which stops him in the hallway, where he can at least now see into the room for the next round.
***************************************************************
The pink-skinned mephit casts a spell and suddenly a green bolt comes flying towards Chalkou!
Ranged Touch attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Possible Crit?: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21 (Yes! :-D)
The bolt strikes Chalkou directly in the chest!
Crit Damage: 4d4 ⇒ (4, 1, 2, 1) = 8 (Rats!)
Nothing personal Chalkou! I just wanna get someone! :-D
The cyan mephit glides to the bottom of the tank, & lands atop the seal-shark like creature.

Lonam? did you want to take an action now and it would move your future initiative to the bottom of the round, or just skip this turn and go on the next round? - And I'm starting a 24 hr countdown for Lonam to post here.

I will skip this round. I am not able to be offensive just now with Sanctuary and standing by to heal as needed.
