Just having a little fun, really. Sorry if it came off bad. :-)

Not at all, I was having a little fun in return.

That's a scary intimidate score. But people will see her as a monster (vestigial wings, prehensile tail) much of the time so that'll be fun.

A couple of class-related things:
You should have one more spell known: Oracles get either the cure or inflict line for free.
I don't see your revelation or your curse.

Other than that, it looks great.

Done and Done. Heh, I am not sure if you noticed, but this char is a far cry from optimized. I made it mainly for the RP. Do you think she will survive if she is picked?

For all that I rolled great, I'm hardly super-optimized, myself- he can do great damage, but uses suboptimal weapons, and isn't all that tough- his feats border on suicidal.

Garold will be a blast to play, if he stays cowardly enough to survive. :-)

I'm going to make you make madness checks every time you post with the wrong alias. I do promise to contrive some flimsy in-game justification for them though. (kidding)

As far as survival, that's entirely up to you. Ravenloft is a dark and dangerous place, governed by forces that delight in corruption and misery. If you court death there, you will find her ready and willing.

I don't wish to be a killer GM, but I also don't assume that PCs should be able to defeat everything that they encounter, particularly in a setting that emphasizes horror.

Good good ... we'll see what you come up with.

I'm still looking. I'm thinking a support/healing cleric. The party is rather large. Are you sure you still have a spot? I was trying to wait and see what was needed, but almost every role filled up ^_^

I'm trying to run a non standard campaign. The idea of every character being in every scene that is almost necessary in tabletop games isn't going to be true of this one. I can run two or three groups in different parts of the world in pbp as easily as one without putting anyone on hold. So think of a novel where characters wind up scattered to the four winds more than a party of adventurers that never separate longer than it takes to go to the bathroom.

Garold will probably never leave Levkarest by himself... but I like character growth.

Presenting Beagan Kettlebottom, gnome dirge bard and alias of Seamus Greenbottle. Beagan is middle-aged (in game terms) gnome who has spent his life publicly studying glyphs and runes and privately studying the control of undead through music. All of his information is in the profile of this alias.

Thanks for your consideration!

Background:

It is just me and you sis. Like usual. Nobody loves you but me. How many times had she heard these words. Painful words, but words of comfort as well. She would have been lost without her. She is her all. Her Sweet Sash!
Tatiana was born a peasant girl. Life was hard for her family. Her father worked the local farmer lands and provided whatever material means he could. Her mother did her best to take care of their tiny shack, which was difficult in the mental state she was in. People told Tatiana that her parents had once been in love and had enjoyed life. That was until the day the mists took their oldest daughter.
Tatiana was too young to remember much before her older sister, Sasha, disappeared. Her few memories of "a happy time" where clouded by the reality of life after Sasha's disappearance. After Sasha left, Tatiana was left with parents who had grown emotionally detached. Her father went to work and only came home to drink. Her mother slept most of the time and wandered the woods in her waking hours. No one seemed to care about Tatiana. Tatiana did her best to take care of the house. It was never good enough though. "Why can't you be more like Sasha was?" She yearned to receive the approval of her parents or at least someone. She spent most of her early childhood striving to bring happiness back to her family.
One day, everything changed! Tatiana had been sleeping and she heard her sister's voice calling outside. Tatiana, barefoot and in her nightgown, walked out into the dark night. Sashsa's voice hailed her from the woods. Tatiana hurried toward the misty darkness. That is when she saw her! She was sitting by a tree with arms outstretched reaching out for her. Tatiana my love. I have missed you. Come to me. She ran and picked her sister up and held her for hours. The next morning they returned to her house. Unexpectedly, her parents were not pleased Sweet Sasha had returned. They ignored her. It didn't matter. Tatiana had someone who loved her. Eventually things got so bad that Sasha told Tatiana it was time to leave. Life on the street was hard, but not nearly as bad as it had been at home without her sister. Through her teen years, Tatiana provided for her and her sister. She took up with a group of Gypsies and was taught to read fortunes. This opened up a way to provide financially for her and her sister.
Over the past few years, misfortune seemed to follow The two though. Bad things happened to those around them. Tatiana did her best to comfort the people, but Sasha seemed to get angrier and angrier at anyone who showed Tatiana affection. Sasha taught Tatiana many skills. She told her of books to read and ways to manipulate the environment. She even taught Tatiana how to animate a dead rat to be their pet.
Today, Tatiana is in Levkarest for the first day of the festival. Sasha knew it would be a perfect place to make some money since there would be some many visitors.
Tatiana is a female human in her early twenties. She has cotton colored hair, black eyes, and ruby red lips. She seeks to belong. She is very pleasant to encounter, but has a terrible temper, especially when Sasha is not happy. She has learned that most people do not take notice of her sister Sashsa so peer pressure and social norms have forced her to speak to her secretly. She has recently discovered new powers and would like to continue to see them grow.

Here is her sister Sasha.

Sounds like a cool concept. I love games where I am allowed to play some of those anti-hero types (undead focused cleric, anti-paladin, undead focused witch).

Well written background. Good read!

@ Tatiana - That's a beautifully done backstory. I have no idea where you got your ability scores from. Character creation guidelines are in the campaign info tab.

I rolled above for a cleric and changed to witch. I used the second set of rolls and added the +2 racial to int.

Int
Wis
Dex
Con
Str
Cha

Dice Rolls:
First Try...
Str: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 1) = 8 | 3d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 4) = 14 | 3d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 4) = 10 | 3d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 2) = 9 ==>14
Con: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 3) = 11 | 3d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 1) = 7 | 3d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 3) = 12 ==>12
Dex: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 2) = 11 | 3d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 6) = 13 | 3d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 6) = 12 ==>13
Int: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 4) = 6 | 3d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 6) = 12 ==>12
Wis: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 2) = 6 | 3d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 5) = 7 ==>7
Cha: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 2) = 9 ==>9

Second Try...
Str: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 1) = 8 | 3d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 4) = 13 | 3d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 3) = 8 | 3d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 5) = 14 ==>14
Con: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 5) = 9 | 3d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 5) = 12 | 3d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 1) = 10 ==>12
Dex: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 6) = 10 | 3d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 1) = 5 | 3d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 4) = 6 ==>10
Int: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 1) = 11 | 3d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 5) = 10 ==>11
Wis: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 4) = 12 | 3d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 2) = 8 ==>12
Cha: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 6) = 10 ==>10

Did I roll those correctly? I'm thinking the second attempt is the good one where the first had two results at 7 & 9 respectively. Although, the first roll would make for an interesting character...

Brief Concept:
My thought is to have Wendel in the area seeking the services of a necromancer in addition to a heart. His brother back home is dead, killed in the night, but his body is secured...awaiting the ministrations of their father...a knowledgeable necromancer...and a heart...

Thoughts?

@ Wendel - You can actually roll again, if you like, your total ability bonuses on the 2nd are <5.

@ Tatiana - Looks like you stiffed yourself on constitution.

Anyone else considering joining the campaign: Please do not rearrange your abilities after you roll them. Your character may not be ideally optimized, but it will by no means be bad.

Since I showed the stat array, does that make sense? I followed the witch guide for debuffing/healing witch stat priority (int, wis, dex, con, str, cha). I am confused about "stiffed" con. I wasn't planning to switch the array. I just didn't want to make a cleric after reading your description of divine power. Is this ok? If not, I am fine with changing it or pulling out altogether. I mainly applied for the RPing and setting (I played the original RL as well as the 3.0/5 version)

Once more with feeling...

Dice Rolls:
Third attempt...
Str: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 3) = 11 | 3d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 4) = 9 | 3d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 1) = 3 | 3d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 6) = 14 ==>14
Con: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 1) = 6 | 3d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 3) = 12 | 3d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 3) = 13 ==>13
Dex: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 1) = 9 | 3d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 2) = 13 | 3d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 1) = 7 ==>13
Int: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 1) = 9 | 3d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 2) = 11 ==>12
Wis: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 6) = 12 | 3d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 4) = 11 ==>12
Cha: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 4) = 10 ==>10

Str 14 (+2)
Con 13 (+1)
Dex 13 (+1)
Int 12 (+1)
Wis 12 (+1)
Cha 10 (+0)

Okay, +6 this time. An improvement and a well balanced stat sheet imho. So, a human fighter-type...still cracking on the background. May take me a night or two, but this is the basic concept...

Brief:
My thought is to have Wendel in the area seeking the services of a necromancer. His brother back home is dead, killed in the night, but his body is secured...awaiting the ministrations of their father...a knowledgeable necromancer...and the acquisition of a very special heart...

@DM Nerk did you have a chance to look at me?

The change of stats in this case is fine, Tatiana, but I'm trying to avoid that kind of shuffling in general, though.

The reason I said you stiffed yourself on Con was because I thought you had dropped a 16 to a 14, but I see what happened now.

Thank you. I am sorry for the wavering on the class. I really wanted to make a character I could play for a long time. May I post in the game thread?

@ Wendel - regarding your character concept (and this goes for Tatiana and everyone dabbling in necromancy or the like) it is fine, but Ravenloft is not a place for moral relativism. If you're playing with necromancy, you are doing evil, and you will attract the attention of the Dark Powers.

I'm not saying don't do it, one of the things I love about Ravenloft is that evil has consequences, and I don't get to play with that if nobody does anything evil. I do want you to know what you're getting into. Ravenloft doesn't care if you've got a heart of gold, or you're doing it for the right reasons.

@ Beagan - I have.

I am RPing that I have already grabbed their attention. They sent Sasha. My character is built around my attempt to overcome the evil even though I have a force pushing me in that direction. The inner conflict brings depth to her. I would think it would be awesome if at some point you controlled Sasha some too.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Ah.

See, I thought Sasha was just an accessory, but a quick look at the Gravewalker archetype set me right. It looks as though most of your class abilities will call for powers checks, and you could easily wind up forever damned (and worse, DMPC'ed) before you hit second level.

As for Sasha, when the dark powers pull her strings (and they will), I'll let you know.

Excellent point. I'm still working him up, but I'll take this bit of information into consideration.

@Wendel and Tatiana: I do not know how prevalent necromancy is in Ravenloft, BUT seeing both of your backgrounds, I think you two should collaborate. Wendel is looking for a necromancer. Tatiana has a "knack" for bringing rats from the dead. There COULD be something there. Just saying. That IS of course if DM is okay with that. It might be a way to keep Tatiana from DMPoofing by second level. Have like a protector of sorts. Maybe keep her from going TOO crazy. That is, of course, if Wendel himself isn't completely bat sh*t crazy himself already. Just a thought. ^_^

Hmmm... An especially interesting prospect considering the altered direction I'm considering for Wendel. The DM's warning above sent chills down my pc's spine so he altered his course...just a smidge. I'm thinking of the following, but will be in the process of working it into a flushed out back story today.

@DM Nerk: Opinions on the revisions and possibly working with Tatiana?

@Tatiana: Thoughts on my updated background below? Would you be interested in pairing up? If so, I'd be happy to collaborate. Or we can simply meet in the city...

Revised Background:
- Wendel is a member of a "well-to-do" family, his own personality and bent leading him to desire the life of a traveling sellsword vs. being stuck at the family's estate or worse, forced into one of the many traditions brought on by their line. Soldier, politician or wizardry...none of which sound appealing to him.

- Then Wendel's brother is viciously attacked in the night, a maid servant finding his body in his chambers, chest ripped open, heart missing. More disturbing is the fact that the brother doesn't appear to be dead, but in a state of suspended animation.

- Wendel's father gives his son the opportunity to accomplish two things; become the sellsword he's always wanted, and save his brother's life. All he has to do is go to Lekvast and hunt down the attacker...retrieve his brother's heart...and his father will handle the rest.

- Somewhere in the region of the city, there is a man Wendel must seek, rumored to be a necromancer, Wendel's father intimated that this individual may be the one who contracted his brother's attacker...

- Wendel heads off...he loves his brother, and the opportunity for freedom from the household pushes his motivations. He'll find this heart, make a name for himself and then leave his family behind. Besides, Wendel has had suspicions regarding his parents' activities. Better to get out while the getting's good, otherwise it might be him waking up without a heart!

Wendel:
Oh, silly me. You meant a specific necromancer and heart. I thought you were just shopping for spare parts. I'm actually quite thick.

As far as the consequences of evil, I posted a (brief) rant about that in the discussion thread, which you should check out.

The new background works fine, more a clarification than a major change from the original, I think.

Wendell working with Tatiana could work. It's not as perfect a match as it was before you revised yourself, but ultimately, that kind of thing is up to the players involved.

Tatiana - feel free to post in the discussion thread. I will weave your character into the gameplay probably tonight.

@ DM Nerk: Oh, you had it right before. Your clarifications though just scared the bejeezus out of me! :) Besides, these are the revisions that emerge after a full night's sleep and a bit of coffee-fueled clarity.

I'll hop over to the discussion thread and partake of the rant. Thanks!

I should have my PCs stuff in the avatar link (fingers crossed) by the end of the day if not sooner.

@ DM Nerk: Well, I was able to wrap up the PC at this point. Slow day at the site. Anyway, his particulars are in his PC Alias, crunch at the top and his details at the bottom.

Enjoy and let me know if he'll work as is or if there's need for modification or clarification.

As for a starting point, I was thinking of "just outside the gate", getting him involved with following after the man who "dialed gatehouse guard for murder"...

Wendel Looks fine. I'll be weaving you into the story when I post in gameplay tonight when I'm able to sit and write a bit. Until then, please join us in discussion.

I am out of town until tomorrow night. I will try to keep up by phone until then.
