Jarkralzak |
Jarkzalrak moves from the alter room back into the main entry area and then to the open door leading to where the shrieking mushrooms were located. He looks down the hallway for any sign of trouble.
GM-JCServant |
You run into the room. A giant, shimmering portal stands in front of you. It is surrounded by fiery runes that rotate around in a counter clockwise direction. You see a vision of desert land with a red tint, through the portal, and Tuvar being dragged through the dunes ahead. As you look around for a few moments, waiting for others to catch up, you feel the ground shake a bit.
No... the hooded stranger says after studying the runes. The rest of you arrive...
Toriel Ondovir |
Toriel shakes her head a bit, "What are you guys waiting for?! There's a deadly storm outside, the tower is destabilizing, and they're dragging that guy away!" She'll run after Tuvar and the creatures in the portal while attempting to stash the book and reagents in her pouch so her hands are free for combat.
GM-JCServant |
The hooded figure steps in front of the elf as soon as she makes her proclamation. The voice is decidedly female. In the reflections of light from the portal, you see sky blue eyes.
Wait. You cannot go...at least not yet. If you do, there are two things that will take place. First, this portal leads to one of the outer edges of the elemental plane of fire. You would die from heat exposure almost immediately. Second, this portal is unstable, but is being held open by a force on the other side. You must find out what is keeping it open and stop it. If left, forced open, more than this floor will shake. Very land itself may be ripped asunder for miles around, including nearby cities. However, if you are successful, you would be trapped on that plane. I will help you on both issues.
I will cast one spell to protect you from the elements, and anyone else brave enough to attempt this. Second, I will anchor the portal on this. I can keep it open for a few hours, but no more. Get in, find what is holding the portal open, and return as quickly as possible. And if you can bring back the loud mouth one in the process, I'm sure the gods will smile on you.
Who will go?
Shangruon |
Shangruon points at the otherworldly portal accusingly. "Whatever on the other side of this is creating these portals must be stopped."
He steps up to the edge of the portal, waiting for whatever magic spell will keep him safe from harm.
Angus McCormick |
turning toward the robbed man Since it is now obvious that you know a lot about this tower since you came here for a specific reason you will explain everything if we do return ?
Angus place himself along with the other who are ready to go. He tells jane to wait for him and keep her eyes on the hooded man.
GM-JCServant |
I knew nothing more about this tower than you. I do know that this portal is very dangerous and must be stopped. Stay still.
Assuming the halfling wants to go....? She makes an arcane gesture. You are covered in a warm light, and feel a flash of heat inside of you. It quickly passes. Now go. I will start the ritual to hold this open for your return. Waste no time. You're looking for a powerful bender of magic or a strong artifact with conjuration magic. Go!
Shallya of the Green |
There is no choice, I must go; this threatens nature and must be stopped! Shallya moves forward, leaning on her walking stick, visibly shaken by the scene before her but stoically passes into the portal....
GM-JCServant |
You walk through the portal. You feel like your insides are being pulled outside for just a moment. As the scene re-materializes in front of you, you feel searing heat inside and out, for just a moment. As it passes, you first note a red tint to everything provided by 3 red and 1 yellow sun in the sky. The sand beneath you, black and gray in color, sparkles in the light of all the suns. As your eyes adjust to the bright, red light, you see two forms made of fire closing in on you. They make loud, cackling sounds, not unlike any normal fire, except that these sounds seem like that have some order to them. And they sound angry, somehow.

Round 2
The monk punches the fire creature hard, and is pleased that his fist does not burn in the process. The creature falls back, and its flame flickers. The elf fires an arrow, and it strikes the creature. Its flame goes out and it turns into a small pile of ash. Zark crushes the one in front of him.
Combat Resolves
With your enemy defeated, you look around you more carefully. The desert in front of you would almost be beautiful if it wasn't so convoluted. The black sand contrasts with the red skyline, with some shimmering. Several leathery reptiles fly overhead. A heated gust of wind blows behind you, threatening to blow some of the sand into your clothing.
Shallya of the Green |
Survival: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Shallya looks over the area, There was a struggle here, the trail leads north. We cannot pause, the winds are covering the trail even as we speak!
Shallya limps off north, determination in her stride...
Toriel Ondovir |
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
"I agree, quickly. They only just went through mere moments before us." Toriel will put her bow away, kneeling down to pick up her sword and keep it gripped in hand as she begins moving north.
Toriel Ondovir |
Toriel will kneel down, running a hand through the sand as she looks around.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
"I don't suppose any of you are capable of detecting magic? Perhaps there is a lingering aura to follow or give us insight on what to do now." She will ask as she glances to the rest of the group.
GM-JCServant |
As the elf asks the questions, her sharp eyes spot movement in the distance. A dozen of the fire creatures, larger than before, are moving towards the party from the east.
Umm...guys....?
She turns around, and from the other side, another dozen approach, flanking the party.
One of them cackles loudly. It's hard to make out, but it sounds like rough common....PUuut Apendddaggess UPppP N AiRR.
Toriel Ondovir |
Toriel sheaths her sword, lifting her arms up hands visible. "We only seek to find a companion and close a portal between our plane and this." She explains slowly, attempting to sound as neutral as possible.

GM-JCServant |
The creatures move in, spreading out to prevent retreat. Upppp....appenndagggesss. Serrennndeeer. Youuuu LIvEeee.
Jarkralzak |
Jarkralzak looks the creatures over, then at his own party. He hooks his hammer to his belt and raises his hand.
"As my companion here has said, we are seeking another like us who was kidnapped and brought here. We mean no harm."
Shallya of the Green |
Shallya gingerly places her walking stick down and raises her hands, We mean no harm, please listen. If we do not find a way to close that portal, it could result in a very large explosion, destroying part of our homeland and most probably this realm as well. The portal is unstable. Please help us or take us to someone who can!
