The Avalon Chronicles

Game Master lynora

This is a high level rules light game set in a school for magical kids, kinda a mash-up of Soul Eater, Harry Potter, and X-Men. :)

Enre turns to see the angel walk into the cafe before saying "Well that is a new one." To his niece and nephew. After they are finished eating he tells them both "You can go walk around if you want, but be back in the room on time." They both nod before walking different ways to check out the school on their own.

Enre than sits there lost in though for a few moments.

"Thank you," Ephebe says gratefully before downing a carefully measured dose. "Oh, that feels so much better."

"Now I'm going to really push the limits and ask for more food," she said with a wink. "Here's hoping the kitchen staff don't go postal this time."

Ephebe headed off to the kitchens. She came back a few minutes later carrying a milkshake.

"They're getting more food together for me. This is for you, Fi. It's a protein shake. You need something not charcoal. Although it is ghost pepper and charcoal flavored."

“Yes, it is nice to meet you too, man.” Roland says, smiling. He turns to Ephebe as she returns and asks: “How far along are you now? I have a half-dragon friend who has had some beautiful children and the morning sickness seemed to strike her mostly between her sixth and sixteenth week of pregnancy. After that she seemed to feel much better.”

Fei enters the training chamber, the stark reminders of his condition (to his mind, at least) etched onto every wall. It does not seem the best place to have a conversation of this nature, but his judgment this evening is also not at its best, so he silently accepts this truth and continues.

The young monk listens carefully to Vai's words, his form still except for the occasional slow, rhythmic breath.

"I....do not understand why you should apologize for anything. You have committed no transgression that would warrant one - it would seem that Ephebe has done so, but not you, Vai..."

"I... I thought I had put you in an awkward position." Vai replies. Fei still hadn't said anything about her confession. He was skirting around it... she needed to take a page from Sadie's book and just put herself out there. "I like you Fei. I... you're so amazing, and I've really respected you since we met and... and I might not be the best person to be in a relationship, but I need to try. I need to try to be normal." Vai finally pauses for breath. Her voice was getting shaky again, she finally looks up at Fei, meeting his eyes. "But as I said, if you don't feel the same way, we can just forget I said anything."

"Umm....about five weeks I think. Unfortunately for me if my mom's experiences are anything to go by, and so far it looks like they are, the morning sickness strikes early and sticks around for the duration."

I think that's the right timing, but honestly I've forgotten how much we have or haven't fast-forwarded in between events, so we'll just go with that.

Roland hears Ephebe's voice clearly in his mind. ::Also, until Saturday or after, don't mention dragons. While there are a few here who know that they still exist and maybe aren't on the lynching committee, most of the students here think that dragons are always evil killing machines with no discretion whatsoever. They're in for a bit of a shock, but I'd rather have that shock come after all of the extra super-special wards that prevent anyone from getting hurt are in place. Thanks.::

Oh gods, someone brought Ghost Pepper salsa to the game session last night... one drop was enough to set your mouth burning. I ate a whole bowl of the stuff over the course of the evening. So much pain.

Yu is watching Roland with great interest, now completely ignoring everyone else at the table. Seemingly unable to contain himself any longer, he blurts out. "Hello, friend Roland if-I-may-call-you-a-friend. I was wondering, if I may ask -- I request permission as I do not wish to anger anyone and it was pointed out with I believe high accuracy that presuming an excess of unwarranted familiarity with people such as attend this facility may lead to unwanted conflict -- how were you made?" Yu's face is still a mask of neutral sophistication and a sort of uniquely cosmopolitan arrogance, but he does seem genuinely interested in Roland's answer.

"Actually, Yu, that was significantly more polite. You're making progress. You'll have the hang of this whole social interaction thing before you know it. Not that you don't still have a ways to go, but you can totally do this." :)

Roland gives Ephebe a sympathetic ‘Oh, My!’ grin/grimace in response.

“Well it won’t last forever and at the end of it you get an awesome reward: Children of your very own! So just hang in there!” He says enthusiastically

::Oh sorry, I have never been good at placating the prejudices of others, honestly it has been a bit of a problem for me, but here I will make an exception as I’d like things to go as smoothly as possible:: The Angel replies.

“Sure you can call my friend, buddy. Yeah I take no offense, I will answer. I’m not sure what the exact process was but I believe it involved my mother drawing on certain cosmic concepts that she herself embodies and using extremely powerful magic to bind them into the form of a person. Not a typical birth, obviously, but then my mother has never done things in a typical way.” At the mention of his mother a sour look momentarily crosses Roland’s face before fading and his expression returning to his normal smiling countenance.

"Cosmic...concepts? I am sorry. I do not understand. Is this a common reference among your people? I understand magic at the conceptual level, but are you saying you were...constructed? Out of...constituent matter?"

How common are Serpentfolk in Agartha? Leaving Tyrrin's reaction to the serpentfolk open until I know more.

Ehos, Mother just wants us to be our best. Pressure is needed to form the most beautiful things in the world. Such as diamonds.

"Tell the Headmaster that I have a responsibility to protect the people of Agartha, and if he wishes to provide a real reason to not share this information, rather than simply threatening me, he is welcome to."

“Uh, yes. In my case energy might be a better word for it than matter. But that is correct, I was constructed, not born per se.” Roland acknowledges, nodding.

"I believe the current opinion of me...is that I am in an 'awkward position' in every conversation I have," Fei replies with a weak smile, making another (probably inopportune) attempt to lighten the mood with some form of humor.

"You...give me more credit than I am due, Vai, and not enough to yourself and to the strength you carry within you. That is what is - as you say - 'amazing', and not any aspect of me."

"You see me every day in this chamber, and you - better than anyone here - know what I am capable of. I. Am. A. Danger. I almost injured you on your first day here, and that image does not ever leave my thoughts."

He closes his eyes and takes a steadying breath before continuing.

"If I let my concentration waver at all - AT ALL - I kill with a touch. I have done that once before to someone I cared for...and I cannot let that happen again. I cannot let that happen to you."

The young monk reaches out with his left hand as if to put it on Vai's cheek, but stops a few inches away. She is in no danger of being touched if she does not move, but she can just begin to feel the heat emanating off of his hand.

"You have been through more than any person ever should, and you deserve better than someone who must become a hermit in order to save lives, who could never touch you without risk, and never give you the blessings of a family if you ever wanted one. You deserve happiness I cannot give to you," he says with a heaviness to his voice she has not heard before, then backs carefully away from her and bows deeply.

"But...I...do wish that I could," he adds quietly as he begins to turn away.

“Oooooh.” Roland says, gently removing his hand. “Sorry.” Adopting a self deprecating grin he continues. “Still, I definitely think we should be friends, it seems like you are as into music as I am and you seem really cool.” He winks at her again.

After a moment his face falls a bit and his gaze drops as something else seems to occur to him. “I know a thing or two about being disowned as well, so we have that in common too.”

He looks up at her again. “I am sorry that happened to you.”

Great, if Angel boy there decides to start a band Fly Free is definitely going to move to second place. We may be broken up at the moment but we're still the top band.

Autohypnosis (Walking Meditation) Check Two: 1d20 + 45 ⇒ (1) + 45 = 46

Oh dear....

Fei didn't realize how far he had fallen out of his walking meditative state until Vai's cry actually caught him by surprise. He feels the slight tremor in the ground under his feet as she grabs his arm...and he loses his focus for a split second.

Knowing what's about to happen, the young Champion's mind races at near-superhuman speed to get ahead of the kinetic discharge, trying to channel it somewhere other than into Vai....

Autohypnosis (Hail-Mary Pass) Roll [please work....]: 1d20 + 35 ⇒ (17) + 35 = 52

Just barely getting enough control to redirect the energy, his features drop from their normal serene calm to a look of desperation and... almost rage.

"NOOOO!!!!!!!!"

Fei twists his arm and snaps it forward, literally sliding Vai off and away from him as he slams his other fist into the wall. There is the scream of stone literally ripping away from stone as the kinetic surge opens a rift in the structure. Thankfully, the room has been reinforced by sabumnim Sunwake enough times that it does not collapse.

Vai is sent tumbling about ten feet away, but other than a scrape or two is not physically injured. Fei has pulled away from the wall and tries to go into a defensive stance with his arms spread wide as if to try and catch the massive stonework should it fall. His limbs, however, are literally trembling, and his normally flawless movements are....off more than a bit.

"Are you alright?!"

Roland’s mouth upturns in a wide smile and he is about to reply when he hears a crashing boom rumble in from somewhere else in the school, a sound he finds vaguely reminiscent of a mountain side cracking and crumbling.

“Eh? What was that?” He asks no one in particular.

Reflex Save: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26

Realization dawns on Vai's face as Fei screams in frustration, and the force of his blow knocks her tumbling away. Luckily, she is able to roll and return to her feet, spinning around just in time to see Fei look as though he was about to catch the wall... but it doesn't fall. This was her fault. "I'm fine... I'm sorry Fei. Are you okay? You're shaking." Vai wants to rush over to Fei, but she is a little more cautious this time, picking her way through any debris to stand next to him. Something about the destruction was strangely arousing. "I'm sorry."

Dylen finds his gaze irresistibly drawn to Roland once again, despite his best efforts not to stare. The Angel’s physical perfection is unlike anything he has ever seen before.

There is a warmth to his affect that Dylen finds instantly compelling but his beauty is almost jarring to Dylen’s rather limited sensibilities. Roland’s powerful physicality seems somehow both ethereal and unnaturally solid at the same time. Both as light and soft as a cloud while also being harder than diamond and Dylen’s mind struggles to process the overwhelming sensation of just viewing such an idealized beauty.

Trying to figure out just what about the Angel’s looks bother him so much Dylen suddenly realizes what it is. It is the unreality of it. Every being he has ever seen, no matter how gorgeous has at least one or two features that are slightly disproportionate or out of place. But with Roland there is nothing, no flaw, no humanizing oddness.

It is not just compared to other people Dylen sees this in but even when comparing Roland to the objects in the room he is in. There is a displacement, a strangeness, about it. Like Roland and the real world are two images that have been poorly juxtaposed over one another by an incompetent film editor.

The insane idea suddenly occurs to Dylen that maybe it isn’t Roland who is unreal but the world that he lives in that is false. There is a truth in the Angel’s beauty, even if that truth is only that it exists.

As his eyes travel over Roland’s statuesque form Dylen suddenly becomes aware of the heat spreading through his body in response to his inspection. Upon realizing this that heat suddenly jumps to his face and he turns beat red.

Making a slight coughing noise he forcibly drags his gaze away from the angelic being and stares off into space as he wrings his hands anxiously.
