Its cool I can wait. He has magic colors to take mental screen shots of when there's a cool image or pattern.

Whelp, my cat knocked a glass of water onto my lappy, which means it is now officially dead. It won't really affect my posting ability, but since I used it for DMing, I was wondering what you DMs out there use to manage your games?
I used DM's familiar on the lappy, but since I'm going to have to buy something new anyway, I was wondering what you guys used in your RL games, if any. Might pick up a tablet, or just another lappy. Thoughts?

Tybalt Baneko |

I Dm'ed once. I used a black binder and paper. First time this has been done since the invention of the computer as far as I know.

I don't do well GMing live games. Well, no complaints from the players but it gives me terrible anxiety attacks. I have trouble with running combat. It's hard to read the numbers that fast. I think I would have an easier time with a less stat-heavy system. That's why this game is rules light. Anyways, I can't offer helpful suggestions because my run at it was so short (3 sessions) that I didn't really have time to figure out what works for keeping things organized. So really all I can say is good luck. :)

lynora |

I still keep a notebook handy, but I have an awesome memory for this kinda thing. I mostly used my lappy to help run combat and so I could quicker-than-books reference rules.
I think I might pick up a tablet, but I dislike Apple. I'll have to do some research into android tablets.
I have an ipad and there's just a lot it can't do. It gets frustrating at times. Haven't found an android tablet that catches my fancy either. I love my iphone, but the ipad is not as cool as I wanted it to be. Except the battery life. You really can't beat the battery life.

FireclawDrake |

Yeah, I'll have to look at apps too before I really decide.
Again, nothing against people that own Apple, just don't like alot of their policies so I can't support them. *shrug*
Basically: If I can find an android tablet for cheaper than a new lappy, that will do what I want (run combat for me, be a good at referencing rules), I'll probably go with that. Just wanted to know if others had some suggestions.
Though Lyn, since you are poo pooing the iPad, maybe I'll just get another lappy.

lynora |

Lyn, have you used onlive? It allows you to basically use windows on a tablet, including iPad.
No, I haven't. Does it work with the older OS? I have an ipad2 and a lot of stuff just doesn't work with my system now. Even apps I used to enjoy are no longer usable because they can't get updates. It's definitely contributing to my frustration.

Monkeygod |

Hmm, depending on what else you need it for, there's like a Google notebook type laptop, for around a few hundred. I don't think it can run high end computer games as I believe it lacks a dedicated graphics card.
I can ask a buddy of mine for tablet advice.
Beyond that, maybe the newer laptop/tablet combo machines?

Tybalt Baneko |

I am perfectly happy with my Droid RAZR. It does everything my laptop did and more.
Edit: I'm talking about my phone BTW. My laptop just sucked that badly.

Kryz yes it does.
Sheess she could probly tell the similarities. She understands snake voice perfectly and without accent.

that's like saying someone hears a person playing a kazoo then hears the same person playing the tuba....

Tybalt Baneko |

Not really . . . . She hears the snake voice the same as the mental voice. If that is how the animal sounds then that is how she hears it. Even if they are different. At the very least the inflection would be the same. :)

Apple no longer (after iOS 6) supports the original iPad, that might be the cause for updates no longer working.
I have an iPad 2, and it's fantastic for GMing. Browser, die roller, note pad and even a sketching program for finger painting some quick references if needed when we don't have a white board around.
All in all, if you play in a house with WiFi, you cannot go wrong with the latest iPad (non-cellular) as a tool to handle what you're describing.
On the other hand, many tablets besides, would do the exact same thing, but perhaps, slightly (more fun?) different download/install experience.
Hope that helps! I hate laptops cause they have moving parts, where as the iPad (Tablet) is essentially, on/off and touch screen.
Otherwise, everything in the head, reference only when needed.
Cheers.

I cannot begin to tell you how handy it is not to carry hard back books and just pull up a *.pdf of the book instead-- and the website, especially if you play Pathfinder (best d20 ever).
So-- find one that supports the following: browser, *.pdf reader (get dropbox), and some app support that won't make you cry.
Ignore Cellular, it's not worth the money, just Wi Fi, and plan for it.
:)

FireclawDrake |

I only play from my house (since I introduced ALL my current friends to D&D). It's annoying to clean up twice a week, but I can't beat not leaving the house for game night. :D
So carrying books and such isn't a problem, and I have google drive for PDFs. Should be pretty much exactly what you have going, Damiani. :D
Monkeygod: That looks pretty much like my old one, except 5 years advanced hah. Gonna try something new and see how it works.

You have to have at least a Divine Rank of 1 to grant spells to followers. Lamashtu, Asmodeus and Grazzt have this. At least.
Settro nor Johnny has Divine Rank 0, let alone 1. How do I know this?
Becasue that'd be way OP, even for this game.Hell, the Champions don't even get that.
This, of course, is ultimately up to Lyn, but damn.
I'll just start throwing divine rank on new PCs :)
I agree, Divine Ranks are a really bad idea in game, [My view] for players PCs, would just be to much.
Actually, at lv 20, godlings get the ability to grant spells, and have no Devine rank.
And get leadership with more the 50% of your followers being clerics of you. And your cohort is your high priest. Devine rank? Not even 0.
You know thats a good point, I did not take it for Johnny, If Johnny had any kind of Divine Rank s/he would do every thing NOT to have it, so its a mute point in Johnnys case, but Devine rank is not a pathfinder thing, one could says Johnny/storm handing out tech IS like handing out magic/powers, that Storm could be seen as a god, even if Storm dos not see itself like that, more god like. That the whole Synthetic Godling thing pans out, nicely, humm, could all be a view point thing.
Think that may have been why Storm left, the locals looking at it as a kind of god being and it not at all liking this.

Ooh. New PC! Gives us a hint! The Drake should gives us a hint!

I know what those words mean but I have no clue about how they combine into phrases. :/
