So ships have been allowed in the past, but with heavy restrictions. The mining ship was strictly non combat. And Dave's ship is hopelessly broken. Fixing it is what he does with his spare time. Basically it can come out for plot reasons only. Just having a ship is a no. If you're a space pirate with a space pirate ship you have no reason to be hanging around a school. You'd just fly off to go find treasure. Now, you want to do a Captain Jack (Sparrow) (yes, I had to specify...there are that many characters named Captain Jack out there) and somebody stole your awesome space pirate ship, well, that's another matter. It's out there and it's supposed to be yours, you just don't happen to have physical access to it at this present moment, but that is merely a technicality that will be corrected. At some point. Eventually. As soon as you find it. That's a character arc. I'm all about building in character motivations. :)

"Ace" |

It occurs to me that the incredibly momentous event that is the restoration of Balance is a matter of extreme destiny and Ace could possibly once more be teleported there against his will.
Not that it should happen, but it's sorta one of the things I had in mind for him, which I did discuss with both Lyn and FCD.

it's totally fine
hey does grappling stop me from using a spell stored in a ring of spell storing?
because if it doesn't dave can get out of this with a standard action.
wait... crap... the ring has a telepathic trigger.....
hmmm

Pretty sure he has to make a concentration check, but that should be fairly easy to make.

The only issue with this is the venue. Destiny can't take him into the past. He'd need to hitch a ride with one of the Time folks. Basically from where he's sitting, all of this already happened. Dave's only there because alterna-Ephebe is a sneaky, manipulative person who is taking advantage of his naïveté.

what's the DC?
I'll cast it with my regular slots since the one in the ring is unavailable
alternatively there's UMD
Quick lookup says it's 10 + grappler's CMB + spell level. And you're adding your CL and appropriate casting stat bonus to your roll to meet that DC.

let me check
Combat CastingYou are adept at spellcasting when threatened or distracted.
Benefit: You get a +4 bonus on concentration checks made to cast a spell or use a spell-like ability when casting on the defensive or while grappled.
I think I count as grappled

I wouldn't exactly call the Crimson Wraith awesome, that's too tame of a word, she's a Huge star transport class ship, with a 50 metric ton cargo hold, a X.5 hyperdrive with a X4 backup, ion engines capable of attack speed, 350 shields, 1000 hull points, something around 20 DR from armor, 21 twin turbolaser cannons on both port and starboard, 2 mass pulse mine tubes on the rear for deterring would be pursuers, two ion cannons mounted on the front to disable the engines of any ship unlucky enough to catch my eye, life support for 50 organic creatures, and supplies for about two months, not to mention all the smuggler's cubbies about the ship filled with unique goods.

Vickory West |

We are using star wars stats for ships now? You know the hyperdrive speeds don't make sense right? A x2 hyperdrive would take eight years to go from earth to the nearest star.
Even the Falcon with .5 past lightspeed would take a year to get there.

Advaran Silvertongue |

I think it's about 500 at longest, it's also armed to the teeth with a whopping 84 turbolasers each doing 5d10 points of damage, not to mention the ion cannons which bestow a cumulative -2 penalty to all usages of the ship which is hit, which will disable any ship within a few rounds of combat, in addition if things get hairy, I can use my x.5 hyperdrive and be out of there in the blink of an eye, anything beyond that is privileged to chip away at my shields and hull.

Considering that the conversation is more focused on the 'ship' then the character -- I'd wager, from my perception, this is a moot point.
Pirates don't need 'schools'. They are plunderers and thieves. Chaotic beings that would buckle at any organized learning institution. You 'learn' in the world, with grog and wenches to fill your gullet until you pass out for the next day's 'lessons'.
Now, even if you were dumped off on the planet -- I doubt, considering the main point of this meta story (planet, hidden from Empire, rejected 'kids' being taught, etc.) would sit well with your Pirate, and he'd soon:
1) be thrown in a 'brig'
2) be ostracized by 90% of the 'population' of players and npcs
3) ripping his/her hair out not being able to get off world and thus-- boring the heck out of you, as a player
Now, I'm not the Storyteller of this place-- but, that's my perspective.
Talk more about the Pirate. Ignore the ship. Plot device only. Even Lynora mentioned that in her prior posts.
/two cents

oh they learn from a school. the prestigious academy of "Hard Knocks"
Okay, 'humor' aside-- list what a Pirate Captain, owning this beautiful freighter that's been described adoringly, would potentially 'learn' form our school.
Let's see what you can come up with, maybe I'm not seeing the potential(s) you might.
