Surprise Round
Some of the group catch a glimpse of the creatures just before the emerge, Liette's lookout training lets them call out to others, but even they are unable to react before the fleshless monstrosities gallop forward on wide webbed hooves closing most of the distance with the group.
"Oh thank the GODS!" yells Nathaniel, furiously scraping away mosquitoes. "ANYTHING is better than these DAMNED flying vermin!" Stretching out his hands, Nathaniel fixes his gaze on the horsemen ahead and spreads his hands, scattering silver dust over his feet and those of Kenan and so on ahead of him.
Noticing the approuching enemy just in time before they are onto the group Viorel shoots out a familiar ball of fire between two of the foes. Soon the fire expands into an inferno to engulf the pair. Happy about the fact that he most likely killed some of the blasted insects in the process. I don't like to fight in this place one bit, hopefully there aren't more than those three lurking somewhere. Both the things appear to be burnt, the one on Sacha's left particularly so. The sickeningly arousing scent of roasting meat fills the air.
Of all the times to have abandoned a horse. While trudging through a hellish mire was always a possibility Liette was aware of when enlisting for the crusades, the possibility and the reality are two distinctly different things. As the first splashing gallops of approaching riders reach Liette's ears over the buzzing of what are likely fiendish mosquitos, she swiftly draws her revolvers and cocks back their firing hammers. "Crissor, Kenan -- targets approaching to our fore!" As horrifying creatures of molten flesh woven into their steeds emerge through the dense foliage, Liette quickly levels both of her revolvers at the creature approaching to her left side. She squints, trying to time her shot to come between the movements of her allies, and once that opening presents itself she unleashes a single perfectly aimed bullet. It slips under Barek's arm to hit directly between the glowing eyes of the creature's equine skull. The horse head explodes in a flurry of gore and skull fragments, though grotesquely enough the rest of the creature comes on, seemingly unaffected.
"That's the spirit!" Crissor exclaims and then fiercely prays while drawing back his bow. "Erastil grant me the power to smite these creatures before they bring harm to my friends." He then fires on the creature bearing down on Barek. He watches the arrow strike true into the gore soaked horse body.
Abigail turns her mount to face the emerging threat. "What are these!?!" Sacha moves to his right, getting closer to the first horseman, while Abigail swings her mace at it. Tthough as he gets in position Sacha slips, and Abigail's swing goes wide.
Spotted. Attacking the left. Kenan responds to Liette snapping off an arrow. The projectile flies over the beast's shoulder, missing.
End of Surprise Round.
---------------------------------
Beginning of Round 1
The horse-thing next to Sacha and Abigail ignores them, trying to ride past. It pays for its ignorance when Abigail's mace smashes into its back and Sacha's claw tears down its flank. The great cat gets a grip and arrests the thing's advance. Frustrated, it turns its equine weapons on the great cat. It's hooves find no purchase, but the horse mouth snaps down onto Sacha's neck.
The horse in front of Barek steps forward. It rears back and both its humanoid and horse mouths vomit huge gushing fountains of effluvia, bone shards and acid over most of the group.
The third horseman weaves a careful path between Abigail and Barek, stopping a pace in front of Kenan. It repeats its companion's maneuver. The threefold assault leaves most of the group injured, and shaking with supernatural fear.

Nathaniel sways back on his feet to avoid any chance of the vomit-flecks hitting him. Wincing sympathetically, he calls out "Okay... maybe the mosquitoes are the lesser evil. And I never could have thought I'd say that..." Carefully he flies forwards over the party, nimbly dodging any flying vomit detritus as he settles down behind the center horseman and aims a blow at its back.
I have enough movement to fly over the horseman and glide down to end up at 17 N and 18 O, hovering 5ft above the ground to gain the higher ground bonus. And, you know, not step into the swamp.

No prayers, no words, just screaming as she aims straight ahead and repeatedly fires her revolvers with loud report. Muzzle flash illuminates the swamp and each trigger squeeze drowns out her voice in the cry of gunfire. Clouds of red mist erupt from the rider with each successful shot, though in her fury Liette hears the grinding click of Justice's cylinder jamming. The horse-thing next to Sacha and Abigail ignores them, trying to ride past. It pays for its ignorance when Abigail's mace smashes into its back and Sacha's claw tears down its flank.
The cold iron of the falcion cuts right through the thing's tough hide, splitting its bloody humanoid back muscles spine-deep from the nape of its neck to where a man's buttock would begin. The creature rears and thrashes, screaming with both horse and human voices together.
Abigail's face turns to steel as she takes the full measure of the threat these things represent. "Let's bring it down quickly Sacha!" Both cat and cleric attack furiously with the weapons at their disposal. Though they land several blows, the monster's bloody flesh seems to repel most of the damage. ""We need help!!!" Abigail exclaims.
Viorel feels a stiffening fear grip him as the pain hits him. I can't take full brunt of that after this. Soon he finds himself lying on the ground his horse unconscious and bleeding out. He doesn't bother getting up. "Don't raise your heads people!" He warns before starting to overcharge a spell. Soon a fireball hits above some of his companions' heads but the flames don't quite reach them. Two of the creatures are not so lucky. The explosion is massive, and deafening. As the bright flare clears from everyone's vision and the smoke drifts away, ringing sound slowly returns to their ears. The horse monster in the middle of the group has had its top half blown completely off, and the one facing down Barek is covered in horrible black third degree burns. The smell of burning plants, vomit and holiday barbeque is overpowering.
Barek steps to the side, the creatures bile dripping from him, along with pieces of his own flesh. He slices his weapon at it twice, missing both times as the burnt, injured creature flails around in the water.
Kenan barely recovers from the onslaught of the three things, but knowing that he won't survive this, he gets a grip on himself and channels all his wrath against them in a deadly barrage of arrows. A storm of arrows seems to erupt from the warrior monk, literally shredding what is left of Barek's foe right before his eyes. The leftovers that plop down into the muck resemble a knight who was burnt alive naked on his mount, and then had his remains fed to a pack of wolves.
Screaming in pain, Liette's hands tremble as she raises her revolvers up towards the horrifying skinless riders. Steam rises off of her body where acid burns through her jacket, skin blisters and peels and her hair twists and curls from the chemical burn. Shards of bone perforate her brow and right arm.

Begin Round 2
Knowing it is not long for this world, and no longer grappled by the giant cougar, the last horseman resolves to take some mortals down with him. It rears back, and again torrents of the most foul, sharp, painful liquid any of you have ever experienced gush out over the group. Abigail and Sacah sort of melt under the assault, slumping to the ground, their condition dubious. Nathaniel is also hit, but being previously unharmed, and a tough customer too boot, is not too worse for the wear.

Liette d'Argent |

Acrid smoke is issuing off of Liette when Viorel asks that question. Instead of responding about her own well being, she races over to Abigal and Sacha, leaping over the body of a fallen horse, splashing back down into soggy ground, before skidding to a stop and dropping to her knees beside the servant of Old Deadeye.
"No, no, no," Liette hisses as she drops her revolvers on the ground, bringing her hands down onto Abigail's chest, even as Viorel is working his own restorative magic. Don't you dare take her yet, don't you dare, Liette thinks as she wrenches her eyes shut. Waves of goldenrod-colored light surge down her arms in waves that cascade out of her bones, visibly glowing beneath her skin.
"Barek, Kenan, you two alright?!" Liette calls out as she continues to pump positive energy in lapping waves into Abigail. She'd seen both of them take severe punishment at the hands of those creatures.

Crissor Salem |

Crissor runs over to Abigail and Sacha, coming up beside Liette. Seeing the dire need of healing he grabs his holy symbol and holds it up. "Erastil allow me to once more bring your healing powers to light!"
5d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 6, 6, 3) = 19
He then turns to Liette."Are you okay?"

Liette d'Argent |

"I'll live," Liette hisses, angrily, her hands trembling as she struggles with her revolvers, picking them up from the dirt, holstering one while snapping the cylinder out of the other. "Are-- are they all," she glances over her shoulder to the corpses of the riders. "விழுங்க," Liette curses in celestial, dropping a brass casing into the mud. She crouches down and picks up the round, trying not to think about what just happened.
Sigmund's aura has stripped the fear away from her, but Liette is still shaken from how close to death she'd gotten. Her injuries have all healed, the blisters and peeled flesh on her face is merely stained with blood and dirt and the stink of bile now. But mental damage will not be going away any time soon.
Behind Liette, a horse's molten remains continue to bubble and sizzle as one of its eyes slowly slides out of the eroding socket, dissolved by the acid.

Viorel, Nathaniel and Abigail hear something. The sound is so faint at first that they aren't sure it's real. But no, there is a definite scraping, hissing, sliding sound approaching them. The thwip and rattle of plants being displaced by something hurrying through becomes more audible by the second. Soon Barek can hear it as well. Apparently the Viorel and Liette Thunderous Noise and Smoke Show hasn't gone unnoticed.
Those who haven't taken any post-combat actions go ahead and post a minute's worth or less. Everyone else hold up.

Nathaniel reaches into the swamp, slides his arms under the giant cat and bodily hauls it and Abigail up out of the waters. Keeping her up as the group's healing magics flow over her, he sighs with relief. "Close... foul things, those horsemen." He shoots a glance at Liette, quite startled at her apperance.
Cocking his head to the side, the dinosaur's eyes close before opening wide with alarm. "Something is coming...it's big, hissing, sliding and fast. Fight or run? Are we all okay?"

Kenan Borjigon |

Kenan runs to Abigail and Sasha. Knowing, that he can't be helful healing them. But he knows, that his friends with healing powers wouldn't have time to prevent that the heads of the 2 unconscious ones would sink in the mud.
During his efforts to support the heads of them, the healing surges of Crissor and Abigail rush over him, washing nearly all his wounds of him.
I'm fine. Just a few scratches. Thanks my friends.
As Nathaniel calls the group to arms, Kenan looks if Abigail and Sasha could rise now. Seeing, that they are both conscious, he slowly looses his grip under their heads. Then he quickly stands up readying himself to cover his friends who still lie on the floor.

Viorel let's out a deep breath as the last of the creatures falls. He snaps his wrist shooting a wand in to his hand. He immediately starts casting the spell in it tapping the wand against his horse. "Someone get Abigail and Sacha!" Crucial seconds pass as the magic does it's task. After completing the spell Viorel struggles up letting the adrenaline coursing within him push the pain to the back of his mind. The mage then moves next to Abigail and Sacha repeating the process of casting the spell on both and finishes by tapping himself with the wand. "Anyone else in need of healing?" He asks looking around if anyone asks he will use the wand on them.
Nathaniel reaches into the swamp, slides his arms under the giant cat and bodily hauls it and Abigail up out of the waters. Keeping her up as the group's healing magics flow over her, he sighs with relief. "Close... foul things, those horsemen." He shoots a glance at Liette, quite startled at her appearance.

Barek trudges closer through the muck and shrugs, indicating he'd been better but wasn't going to die.
Abigail opens scared eyes and looks at Viorel as he moves on to Sacha. She lifts a hand to Liette "Sacha needs it first." She rises slowly, keeping a concerned eye on Sacha. "Let His grace heal us!" she intones as she extends her palm to release healing energy over the group.
Crissor runs over to Abigail and Sacha, coming up beside Liette. Seeing the dire need of healing he grabs his holy symbol and holds it up. "Erastil allow me to once more bring your healing powers to light!" He then turns to Liette. "Are you okay?"

As the flurry of activity subsides, Viorel, Nathaniel and Abigail hear something. The sound is so faint at first that they aren't sure it's real. Sigmund, Kenan, Liette, Viorel, Nathaniel and Abigail all see it simultaneously. A diamond-shaped head bigger across than a wagon wheel is cutting a wake silently through the water. The only sign of its approach is the soft rustling of waves lapping against the surrounding undergrowth. The orange and black patterns on its scales and the dull yellow of its eyes gleam softly in the murky light of the swamp. For now it's impossible to tell exactly what kind of reptile you're dealing with as most of it is submerged under the brown water.

This round, the reptile has concealment (50% miss chance), since the vast majority of it is under dirty water. Its stats are in my profile, pay attention to it's AOOs, it has combat reflexes. Once it grabs someone it gains the grappled condition and can no longer AOO until it loses it.

Liette d'Argent |

Seeing the trees swaying as the massive serpentine creature moves through the water and the bulk of its enormous, coiled form pushes them around, Liette raises her revolvers and draws in a slow, steady breath. "Have-- Is-- is it a good time to tell-- " Liette stammers, her breathing becoming irregular, "Is it a good time to tell you I'm afraid of snakes?"

As Viorel notices the new threath there is an onslaught of curses in every language the mage knows. Shrigging of the frustration he starts again with the overcharged spell and the same fireball from moments ago explodes above the reptiles head. Seeing that his spell resulted more in water changing to steam than any major damage he frowns. "It's fire resistant." He notes to his companions bit of bitterness in the tone. Fire won't work fast enough I need to find alternative tactic.
