08/19/4712 13:30
After the other group rode away, everyone (who eats) quickly finished up their meal and retook the road. The party feels like it still has a few hours in it, so they press on, heading south again. Once more the heat blasted lands give way to the more grassy areas to the south. The terrain here is crisscrossed with dry old riverbeds.

After a few hours the party can see something up ahead in the riverbed they've been using as a trail. It appears to be a large critter of some sort laying dead.
Nathaniel.
|
Perception:1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14
Nathaniel stops and shades his eyes against the sunlight but manages to see nothing except a large dead creature ahead.
"There's something there... I cannot make it out... let us just hope that it is not another elephant..."
Scratching his head slightly, Nathaniel gazes off into the distance as he ponders something.
Well, what do you think if my idea?
Could work, could work... remember to keep your words hurried but clear, modulate into the bass range...
Moving to within 160ft of the critter, Nathaniel points his finger at it and casts a spell of messaging.
Into his hand he quietly shouts- "HAHAHAHAHAHA we have spotted you, feckless creature! Flee before the legions of the infernal abyss, feckless mortal! FLEE!"- his words carried swiftly across the plain towards the critter.

"Is this place so damn barren that only demons and bugs can survive here. Some bugs eating a corpse of some animal. Cant make out numbers but there are more than one, black I think."
Barek Wound-blooded
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Barak curses. "More bugs. Are we still in the lands affected by the Wound or are we in some new land of insects? So do we leave them to their meal or crush them under our boots, assuming Nathaniel's cry hasn't riled them up?"
Rosa Luminass
"Lets see what he finds out, hes good at this kind of thing, if its a wast of out time we go around of it looks of interest then have a look see. next time out what do you say about going west and seeing where the four riders went, I have a feeling some thing is going on that way. We have a good party here, we could do well I feel."
Rose sees if Nat has found any thing.

When the sound from Nathaniel's spell reaches the corpse, there is skittering movement around it, and four large sized, jet-black scorpions with fiery red tails rise up from their meal.

Round 1 Initiative 7
Cinderfang casts Sleet storm so that it catches scorpion 1&2, but not 3&4. (long range spell, no spell resist allowed).
He and SunEater then advance to K45
I'm hoping this will pin those two down for a few rounds, and allow us to divide and conquer.
Also, note that I haven't wild shaped yet.

CASTING
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S, M/DF (dust and water)
EFFECT
Range long (400 ft. + 40 ft./level)
Area cylinder (40-ft. radius, 20 ft. high)
Duration 1 round/level
Saving Throw none; Spell Resistance no
DESCRIPTION
Driving sleet blocks all sight (even darkvision) within it and causes the ground in the area to be icy. A creature can walk within or through the area of sleet at half normal speed with a DC 10 Acrobatics check. Failure means it can't move in that round, while failure by 5 or more means it falls (see the Acrobatics skill for details).
The sleet extinguishes torches and small fires.
DM Jelani
Initiative 13
Nathaniel lowers down to the ground and begins chanting a spell, his size increasing slowly as he does so.
Initiative 12+
Barek moves forward drawing his bow and firing an arrow. The shaft deflects harmlessly off one of the scorpion's hard exoskeletons.
Initiative 12-
Viorel moves.
Initiative 11
Torin also moves.
Initiative 8
Rosa invokes a brief prayer to her Dark God and an aura of fiery protection springs up around her. She draws her blade and moves forward.
Initiative 7
Cinderfang raises his arms and roaring with a voice like thunder brings down a column of driving wind and icy rain from the heavens onto the scorpions.
Initiative 6
The scorpions skitter forward angrily towards the source of their disturbance.
Acrobatics 1 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

Initiative 13-
Nathaniel shoots up in height, growing to match Rosa. Shouldering his massive blade, he grins as he braces for the Scorpions' onslaught.

"FORM LINE! FORM LINE! Here Beside me and Barek, let them come to us, use any thing with reach wile they come on"

She then casts on Barek

I would like to change my action if possible, if not then just leave me where I am.
Hearing Rosa's cry, Nathaniel abandon's his defensive stance and flies over to stand beside his comrades, ready for the charging scorpions.
Action: Double move to I/K45
Cinderfang
Note- I should have ended last round at K45 next to Rosa
Round 2 Initiative 7
Standard action wildshape, move to R51 (Sun-Eater to R49)
Cinderfang curses as his spell has no effect. He transforms into his cat form and runs wide to hedge in the flank of the scorpions. Sun-Eater follows behind.
Viorel Ariaza
Round 2 init 12-
Viorel hears Rosa's yelling and notices he is ahead of that line that they formed so he decides to first hit, he starts the arcane gestures and incarnations and shoots four magical darts made out of force towards the nearest of the scorpions before moving behind the line the others had formed.

Round 2, Init 12+
Barak nocks and fires his bow twice more while standing alongside Rosa.
Full round action to full attack with bow vs #3. Hard to count exactly but I think it might be just at the 1st range increment (although I may have miscounted), take a -2 from the attack rolls if it's outside.

Initiative 12+
Barek fires his bow twice at the oncoming arthropods. One arrow manages to pierce one of the scorpions multiple compound eyes, doing some damage.
They are giant scorpions but they, like everything else you've seen out here, appear to have been warped by the Wound.

Nathaniel strikes a might blow on one of the scorpions surrounding him with his falcion, cracking its shell. Then using his clawed feet, tears the rent open wide to reveal the insect's quivering innnards. The bug is still alive, but not for long.
Initiative 12+
Barek draws his blade and charges forward, but the scorpion evades his blow.
Initiative 12-
Viorel once again shoots firey rays from his hand.
We'll say you target 1 and 3 since they've been damaged the most. Also, you forgot the -4 for shooting into melee.
His first ray finishes off the scorpion that Nathaniel ravaged, and his second burns a furrow down the back of the one he hit with the magical missiles earlier.

Initiative 12-
Viorel sends more magical darts streaking into the fourth scorpion.
Initiative 11

That's definitely a hit unless you didn't intend to add in the True Strike bonus a second time. Sword has three per day, so I'll assume it cast it again.
Rosa brings her massive blade down again chopping the scorpion in half right out of Cinderfang's claws, narrowly missing him in the process. Again, as if on cue, Cinderfang is drenched in gooey ichor and guts.
Initiative 7
I'm just moving you to the only remaining scorpion, sun-eater tried to bite that one instead.
