There are quality map options via Paizo map purchases and posting viaGoogle Drive.
You can create your own via Ditzie or use Roll20...there are many many options for you.
The Chronicler - GM |
Ok...here is my very crappy map. I looked for mapping tools and this was the best I could come up with/do. It'll take some explaining, but at least you will have some idea. The ENTRANCE is obviously where you came in. The three "doors" leading out of the room are open doorways. The door to the right is closed.

It is up to the GM to make calls on all of this but this is the best place for the discussion.
The Nature of Goblinoid Evil
Goblins, hobgoblins, and bugbears, despite having superficial similarities, each represent a different face of evil. Hobgoblins are ordered and methodical in their evil, forming vast armies, warbands, and despotic nations. Goblins are the primal evil, seeking only cruelty and petty victimization as they can find it, be that among their own kind or against their neighbors. Yet the evil personified by the bugbear may be the most terrifying, for they actively seek to inflict pain and suffering in the most destructive ways possible.
goblins, hobgoblin, bugbears, orcs, and other races are assumed evil. yes there maybe some members of the races that aren't but they are exceptions to the rule.
He speaks of a leader but explains that he is not so much a chief as a master. He is as big as a human and goes by the name Goot.
The goblin said that the leader was as big as a human not that it was a human. The hobgoblin fits this description.
If the hobgoblin isn't to be left behind then either someone has to carry it or we wait around for it to wake up. Once it is a wake it has to be watched at all times to keep it from escaping.
It is more reasonable that it is involved in the banditry in the area. It is doubtful that the hobgoblin is just taking a nap in the goblin lair before moving on to new Wesel to sell it's load of lace doillies.
Brom would agree that killing it in cold blood is not the best option but there is only five of us facing an unknow number of enemies. Offing the hobgoblin is the most ruthless solution but also the safest least resource intensive.
Fenn doesn't have to like it or accept it. We can fight over it but I am of the opinion that it fits within Broms alignment as explained by the rules.
Now how does Fenn justify leaving the goblin hanging upside down from a tree in the woods. I wouldn't want to be hung upside down for hours. That looks like torture to me, and it wasn't even done to gain information.
I will wait on the GM's judgement before fighting

I've been thinking about this for a while and I looked around to see if there was a rule that mentioned interrupting another character (if there is please correct me). I came across this from a message board:
"Just because Player A says to the DM "I'm going to kill the unconscious guy" doesn't mean that Player B has any inkling that's about to happen, and more often than not Player A would likely be able to get off the shot in a surprise round before Player B could react.
Think about it logically, (I know, I know...) Player A is standing over unconscious guy with his gun out. If he pointed the gun and pulled the trigger...would anyone really have enough time to react and stop him?"
In my opinion, I'm not sure Fenn would have time to react.
If we are not satisfied with that, Fenn and Brom can role initiative and the higher roll would get first action and then we can go from there...either Brom would kill the hobgoblin, or Fenn would stop him and Brom could make his move from there.
Sorry that this is not a definitive answer, but I'm honestly not sure how to handle it.
Let me know what everyone thinks.
Fenn 'The Jr' {Winter} |
Well consider this.. a two-handed poelarm weapon that has reach is Not a gun. Its is not a point and pull trigger action to use that weapon. Brom is not a pole-arm weapon archetype fighter.. so he can't just 'choke-up' on the weapon's haft to even use it without it's reach and he can't attack a creature under his reach. Fenn was standing over the Hobgoblin and binding his head wound... I think I have a strong case that Fenn could indeed interrupt a full round action to coup de grace.
But if you insist...
Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
But if Brom does kill a helpless prisoneer and the party is fine with it.. I'll have Fenn leave and play something more fitting in the general alignment of the party... favoring neutral to evil actions. Cause Fenn will not associate with people of such cruel alignments.
Jeseare Mahan |
A coup de grace is a full round action. In a surprise round you only get a standard to start the full round, you have to complete it on your next turn. So basically if bronn can beat fenn on initiative he completes the action. You might allow fenn a sense motive as I do believe bronn didnt directly announce his intention but he did say something before he acted. IMO
The Chronicler - GM |
If Brom's ok with being interrupted, then I'm fine with it. If not, he can roll intitiative and take his action. If he's ok, he can make his move based on the game thread.
As far as an alignment shift…no, it would not change your alignment. I do not see it as an EVIL act. Brom is a fighter and I believe that is totally acceptable for his character to do without any evil intent. Warriors have had to make choices like that since the beginning of time.
Brom Blackmane |
I am okay with being interupted. I wouldn't want to be the cause of Fenn not being able to play the character he wants to play.
question the bottle the hobgoblin was snoozing with, was it the bottle we are looking for or do we still need to find it?
Fenn 'The Jr' {Winter} |
Again... its not about killing. Fenn is not opposed to killing a evil foe in combat if there is no other choice or just the heat of battle. It one thing to fight and kill a foe who is trying to kill you in combat. Its completely different thing the killing of another intelligent sentient being who is unconscious and at one's mercy ...without even knowing if that person is deserving of death... simply because they are a member of a monstrous race! That is just plain arbitrary and evil in his opinion.
And if the PARTY is ok with killing helpless prisoners... if they agree with Brom that this is "acceptible" behavior... Fenn would not want to associate with such people. Whether Brom manages to kill the Hobgoblin or not.. its the party's reaction to his actions that are important to Fenn. Helpless prisoners should not be killed out of hand ... just 'because' its convenient to do so. That is not a action good people should accept.
Cause the eventual argument is how to deal with foes that surrender or ask for mercy? Is it ok to offer mercy ...just to kill them later? If our only answer is kill.. then why offer mercy? The question comes up if Fenn demands someone to surrender and they do.. will Brom just try to kill them? Part of the unspoken understanding of accepting surrender is that you're not going to just turn around and slay the foe.
Yes, it adds a level of complication to the trite simple "insert sword, remove exp {repeat.. as needed}" of most adolescent... but I think we're all a little beyond that now?
I'm perfectly fine if the rest of the players think this is acceptable behavior.. I can generate a non-good character as well... to fit more in line with the alignment of the party. This is important because it WILL come up again... if this is not resolved now. We need to decided how prisoners will be treated. I'd rather play a similarly 'dangerously neutral' character rather and invest anymore time and effort into a 'good' young hero-at-heart if it will mean more conflicts on doing what is fair, just, and moral in the future. I was lead to believe we were playing young heroes not veteran killers.
I can do either... but I want to know up front.
Fenn 'The Jr' {Winter} |
Not the the door at the end of the right hand hall. The door facing north in the hallway on the right.... its so we can watch the dining hall and the door at the end of the hall at the same time while we look into the right-hand north room.

Hey, I know posting on my part has been slow, but one of my managers is out on medical leave (she had surgery to remove some cancer) and my schedule this week has been horrendous. Next week is looking better, though, so I'm hoping to jump back into the game starting Monday. Sorry for all the hold up. I appreciate everyone hanging in there with me. I hope everyone has a nice holiday.

Guys.. I hate to be a bummer but I way too much on my plate to keep tabs on all of my games, so im cutting back on my most previous joined ones.. This has nothing to do with the game as it has moved forward with a decent pace, I just cant keep up with them all and need to throttle back some.. Good Gaming and Good Luck though!
Fenn 'The Jr' {Winter} |
Chronicler - GM... we have not gotten xp from the subdual of the Hobgoblin, or defeating the Stirges.. got any numbers for my xp log?

Bowing deeply and with great flourish,
"Ladies and Gentlemen,
With much regret I must adieu."
@Players, thank you for an entertaining romp. I've enjoyed our lively banter.
@GM, thank you for your time and effort. An enjoyable game thus far which will surely turn into a grand adventure. Good luck!
Q.
Fenn 'The Jr' {Winter} |
Ok. See round man. 'sigh'.. guess we need a new arcane caster.. or at least level 2 so I can take my first level of wizard.
Should we open recruitment again?
Fenn 'The Jr' {Winter} |
No worries, Fenn; I'm sure Zabela would be fascinated! That being said, she's 144, which is on the older side, even for an elf.
Actually, elves aren't even considered middle aged until about 175 years old.Startign elf age is a base of 110 years... effectively 'societal-wise' as elves see it, you would be in your lat 20's or early 30's at age 144. Still youthful by comparison... but certainly a fully mature elven woman.
While Fenn at actual age 22 years old, is still just barely out of teenager years - a young adult yet... as starting base age of a half-elf is 20 and looking at humans, as a benchmark, starting base humans are 15 years old.
Fenn might have a final 20's filling out growth spurt that young men go through at that age.. though he may be an early bloomer with a strength of 16! That's impressive for a post-teenager, but he is a country farm boy!

I am sorry to say that I am going to have to absent myself from the boards for awhile. Some real life things have come up, and I can't take the time to play or run any games. Sorry to let you all down like this. I have enjoyed playing with you all and hope my leaving won't be too much of an inconvenience. To those of you in my Skull and Shackles game I can't tell you how sorry I am to disappear on you all like this. I said I would finish at least the first book of the AP but it just isn't possible right now.
Fenn 'The Jr' {Winter} |
Man. Sorry to see you go Brom, hope real life settles down for you... come back any time! Peace.
@ Chrnicler: So ... open Recruitment again for a front line fighter?
Fenn 'The Jr' {Winter} |
Damn! Just occurred to me I'm the ONLY remaining core character!
Ah well.. I'm not leaving until Chronicler turns out the light..
So everyone that should be another 150xp for the CR2 Bugbear.
