Tales of the Shadowscales

Game Master Plume

Argonian Shadowscales and a few allies are dispatched to retrieve an Elder Scroll in southern Morrowind. What they discover is beyond what anyone could have expected...

Discuss character bonds and out of character talk in this thread!

So, I'm going with Priest of Sithis instead based on that document you put up. I'm working on the stat-block now and I'll put together a little of his story as well.

He would've been part of the Shadowscales during their decline so I'll probably expand on that.

Excellent, I much prefer the Priest over the Cleric myself as well. Offers greater flexibility than a static spell list.

The priest gets to choose a weapon of his deity. Any chance you'd let me give it the precise tag?

Also, I still need to choose bonds. Is it OK if I do that after all the characters are introduced?

Precise makes complete sense for the weapon of a Sithis worshiper, they're all about their knives.

Bonds are actually supposed to be established out-of-character before the first session, so on that note, I would encourage everyone to write up a little intro and create bonds here in the Discussion thread. It'll be important for when you roll to Aid each other, because your modifier for those rolls will be the number of bonds with that character.

Thanks!

I have a short backstory written on my profile. Dal-Jerei is all about returning (deserving?)people to the void. So it'll be hard to keep prisoners for long or anything like that. Otherwise he's pretty amicable to people he interacts with. He'll probably act like an exasperated, ornery old guy around youngsters, but with an argonian flavor(I hope).

The character sheet has a few bonds on it already so I just put names in there. I'm open to modifying them or making different ones etc. I want to use: _______________ has insulted my deity; I do not trust them, for the non-argonian character.

Geetra-Na is a good and faithful person; I trust her implicitly.
Hisstla is in constant danger, I will keep him safe.

Again, I'm pretty new to this system so I'm open to advice and criticism.

Don't feel restricted to only using the bonds listed on your character sheet - that's a really common misconception. The bonds on your character sheet are meant to be guidelines for what a good Bond might look like for your class; they aren't meant to be the end-all for your options. If there's a different Bond that makes more sense, by all means add that.

Ok cool. After I get some context on the other characters, I'll personalize some bonds then. I like that idea better anyway.

Did the owl swim down here? Lol

Or did we not have to go underwater to get to the cave?

It's below sea level, meaning that it's in a cave on an island that went down into the earth. You didn't have to swim there, you landed on the island and descended to where the Sanctuary was hidden. Sorry for not being more clear.

It's cool. I made an assumption but it'll be alright. Are you expecting any more players to join us?

Either way, I think one of the others should be the first through. Heh.

I'm leaving recruitment open; others can join as they create their characters, but I'll try to keep the disruptions to a minimum so as to foster immersion in the story. That's why we're all here, right? The story! And loot.

You can ignore both my posts about searching that room since Paizo decided to make a copy and shove it ahead of the original

Sorry for no update yesterday, folks, I was studying for a big certification exam that I took today. And I passed it, and got certified! So yay! Update coming now.

Been a busy weekend but I'll try to post tonight.

I was hoping one of the martials would take the weapons though.

If they don't describe them by the time I post, I'll do so.

Just letting you know that I am indeed still paying attention

Ok, so this is the thing I don't "get" about DW : this is the second time in a game where my *very excellent roll* put a comrade in extreme danger. I get that the DM is free to "move" as a result of my move, but why should an excellent roll result in a crappy situation for someone else? I thought really bad things were only supposed to happen on a 6 or less.

My situation is a direct result of my very bad roll. The story just makes it seem like you caused it but you did not.

You defied danger successfully.

Dal-Jerei is completely correct. The fact that your throw was used by the gargoyle to reposition is a narrative device to explain and help you visualize the flow of combat. Additionally, even if you roll successfully, that does not take away the agency of your opponent. Just because you can succeed at what you're doing doesn't make you immune to unexpected side effects as a result of that success.

Ok, that sort of makes sense. Thanks, both of you!

No problem, it was a good question! :) Thanks to Dal-Jerei for explaining it succinctly also.

I'll get a post up tonight. The end of most months are very busy for me.

Updating tomorrow, had an exhaustingly busy day today :)

Hey all, delaying my daily post today due to extreme exhaustion. Just thought I'd let everyone know. Back tomorrow! :)

When you reach the end of a session, choose one your bonds that you feel is resolved (completely explored, no longer relevant, or otherwise). Ask the player of the character you have the bond with if they agree. If they do, mark XP and write a new bond with whomever you wish.

It doesn't look like we actually ever did bonds!

Once bonds have been updated look at your alignment. If you fulfilled that alignment at least once this session, mark XP. Then answer these three questions as a group:

Did we learn something new and important about the world? That we were sold false information about an Elder Scroll.
Did we overcome a notable monster or enemy? I would say yes, that undead Altmer thing.
Did we loot a memorable treasure? I wish!
For each “yes” answer everyone marks XP. My votes would be yes, yes, no.

Yeah, I don't have any bonds, either. And, doing a quick search, it looks like I failed one Spout Lore. So, +3 XP for me?

Female Argonian Ranger 1

No Bonds for me [since they can be filled in at any time I thought I'd see if anything emerged during gameplay]
alignment-wise I went back for the dogs, dunno if that is enough to count

Did we learn something new and important about the world? Seems that we were lied to and led into a trap
Did we overcome a notable monster or enemy? I believe so
Did we loot a memorable treasure? Nope

I'm quitting my job this Sunday and putting the games that I'm DMing on hiatus until I find something else to do - shouldn't take too long, but I don't want to stress out about updating these regularly when I need to be focusing on work.

Thanks for your patience, y'all.

No worries. Thank you for letting us know!

I'll be checking the Gameplay regularly, take your time...
